A Texas Ranger A Mail Order Bride A prank by a trusted friend. What could go wrong?
JD Baker has his hands full with a scrawny outlaw, a dead rancher, and his twenty-first birthday coming up. Tired of being the brunt of the jokes at the ranger station in Waco, Texas, JD can’t wait to cross the adult line and leave the pranks behind him. He’s foot-loose and fancy free and at twenty-one, the world is his. Maybe in ten years or so, he’ll settle down and raise a family. Elsie Bannister is on the stage on her way to Waco when they are robbed, and the horses taken. Not one content to sit around and wait for another stage or help, she decides to walk the rest of the way, and runs into a couple of outlaws ~ sort of.

Texas Ranger JD is tired off being treated as a kid. While trying to bring in a horse thief, he comes across a murdered man and now needs to investigate that. Taking the now innocent suspect back to headquarters with him, it turns out all the rangers are on hand to celebrate his 21st birthday. Little does he realize that his friend and partner has just pulled a huge prank on him. He's arranged a mail-order bride in JD's name!! What will he do? He's not ready to settle down yet. Poor Elsie had her stagecoach robbed on her way to meet her groom. She's worried about outlaws but is sure once she gets to JD everything will be fine. Little does she know his friend wrote those lovely letters in JD's name and her intended knows nothing about it. This is a clean, sweet romance. I thought it was pretty good although the mystery wasn't very hard to figure out. I also felt that Elsie was a bit naggy when JD told her repeatedly that he wasn't ready to settle down. I understand she had nowhere to go but you can't force someone into that. Anyways, it all worked out in the end.
JD and Neil are brother Rangers, they were as close as brothers. JD was having his twenty-four birthday and Neil had sent away for him a Mail Order Bride as his surprise birthday gift. Elsie, the mail order bride was on the stage that was due and it was being robbed by bandits. Very enjoyable read with lots of twists, turns and action. Yes and a happy ending.
A great cast of characters, the author has put together a wonderful story of adventure, humor, and romance. The young man was about to turn twenty-one, he was a Texas Ranger, he was going to prove himself to keep out of being put in the kitchen pedaling.
