Quand on attend l'amour

Rate this book

3.5 Frusterating Gansett Island Stars

As much as I love this series, I think it’s probably best I quit while I’m ahead. The Gansett Island books no longer read like contemporary romances to me, but rather like a daytime soap opera that just keeps going and going. Adam and Abby, who are the supposed focus of this book, got very little actual page time compared to all of the other stories being concurrently discussed. While I like to read about the other characters and how their lives are progressing, it leaves me feeling very hollow as far as Abby and Adam’s love story is concerned. Mac and Maddie got an entire book just for their story. Joe and Janey got an entire book as well. Sydney and Luke? Yep, them too. I miss those Gansett Island books and as much as I enjoy reading about the other characters and the direction their lives are taking, I don’t think I’ll be reading any more of this series until it gets back to a one hero/one heroine driven romance.

10-3-19 I originally rated this book three-stars and it didn't get any better the second time through.

Adam and Abby and their story 2 stars.
Dan and Kara 5 stars
Seeing the others

In 'Waiting For Love' we get to witness the repercussions of the boating accident that occured in the previous book and how it affects all of our Gansett Island Friends, especially the McCarthy family.

This book features the love story of Abby and Adam. Abby had been with Grant, Adam's brother, for ten long years. While she is on the Ferry returning to Gansett Island after leaving her second fiancee she runs into Adam. She is ready to leave her good girl image behind and live on the wild side. Adam ends up volunteering to be her partner in crime.

The main thing that troubled me in this book is that Abby had a good deal of sexual problems and hang ups. In fact it made her seem so very prudish and frigid! It angered me that she was with Grant for ten years and all that time she faked her O on every sexual encounter including when she got with Cal. She lied to Grant for ten years and then lied to Cal. I thought a lot less of her that she was not brave enough to face this problem head on. I felt sorry for Grant that he went ten years only having lousy sex occasionally and she wouldn't allow any type of oral...After ten years with a person you would think she would have been comfortable enough with Grant to face it and work through it. I labeled her as hopeless. I feel she was very neglectful with Grant and taking no interest in their intimate life. Actually, for me it made her appear ignorant. She really knew very little about sex because she did nothing on her own to learn and research. I mean really! I was so frustrated with that and then we had to read about every move Adam made to make sure she had an O during every tiny fricken' detail over and over with each encounter. Abby is a coward and was very unfair to her ex, Grant, for faking ten years of orgasms and sexual dysfunction. That is an out and out lie! I know ten-year-old kids who know more about sex than Abby and what was really pathetic is the fact she didn't want to learn or work on her sexual problems.

I loved seeing the other couples but especially Dan and Kara as they discover their relationship has gone to the next level.

I would recommend this book.

She’s baaaaaaaaack!! Third time’s the charm, right? Well, we shall see when we board the ferry, along with Abby Callahan and Adam McCarthy, for another visit with the McCarthy family and all our island friends.

Another love gone bad for Abby and she’s ready to make some big changes in her life. And she’s making no secrets about how she plans to do just that. Adam McCarthy has recently had some bad luck of his own. When his ex-girlfriend helps steal his company right out from underneath him, he heads back home for a little R&R of his own. Will Adam and Abby find what they’re looking for as they return home? To get the rest of the story, you’ll have to read “Waiting for Love,” Book #8 in the McCarthys of Gansett Island Series.

There’s nothing like a visit to the Island and this time around is just as full of fun and romance as all the others. MF’s trademark for writing sassy wit and colorful humor is always present, along with the fabulous character development, meaningful and emotional interaction between these characters and yes, let’s not forget the sizzling romance. You’ll love the stories surrounding the McCarthys and folks who live on Gansett Island and especially how Marie Force delivers them into your heart.

As another chapter closes on the McCarthy family, I’m already filled with excitement in anticipation of my next visit. If you haven’t experienced the treasures found on Gansett Island, reserve a seat on the ferry and join the crowd who’ve already made the discovery. I bet it won’t be your last trip.

I feel like this series just keeps going downhill. While I like appearances by past couples, the series has become like a Where Are They Now read and the main couple no longer gets their features story like the first books. Many plot lines are also becoming too much like soap opera plots. I already had a difficult time with Adam going for his brother's ex. It doesn't help that I found myself rolling my eyes at some other plots coming up. There was also so much repetition in the writing itself that I'm now wondering if all the books were like this but I just never realized it.

Why can't I live on Gansett Island?? Loved it - thanks Marie for getting back to all our old friends. I will admit to being in the minority with the last book, Blaine and Tiffany - too much emphasis on the sex toys etc. - not that I don't love all that kind of stuff but just wanted Marie to stick to her tried and trusted formula. Plenty of sex in this one too from the older to the younger ones but it was more like her other books from the Gansett series. Can't wait for the next one - not sure who it will be about - Jenny maybe? Or have we been told already.

Waiting For Love is the sweet, heartwarming, and entertaining and is the eigth book in amazing Gansett Island series. It features humour, drama, angst, secrets and desires that kept me interested and invested.

This could be read as a standalone but each book features another person on the island so I would read them all in order because if not you are missing out.

Make sure this one is on your TBR. I read it a few years ago and fell in love with the characters then and rereading now makes me realise why I loved this series so much.

4.0 to 4.5 stars. On one hand a person could read this bk, roll their eyes and think of it more like Fantasy Island than Gansett Island. An island of couples who fall in love hard fast and deep. Beautiful people, perfect couples with a perfect life with some everyday life/drama thrown in. Kind of like a long running TV show/soap. You want escape…this is it! However, despite all that and 8 bks in, I still love this series. Waiting for Love was a rip off for Adam/Abby since they didn’t really get more than 3 days to their relationship. To go from “hey, how ya been” to “I love you”, was a bit of a stretch to the ole imagination. It’s not that I didn’t like their story I did, but this series/character base has grown so large that there’s just not enough time to encompass everyone and everything and expand a love interest. (Unless of course it was a lengthier bk and I’m all for that.) So Adam and Abby end up with a quickie novella relationship within a story of the current goings on with island life. This all sounds like complaint, it is and isn’t. I would have liked a longer love story for Adam and Abby while still not leaving out a thing to the rest of the story. Would have been great for MF to expand a bit more on Adam’s place in the family and some of the hinted at emotions: The slight antagonism between Evan and Adam, Adam being the loner, more about what his life was like in New York, etc. Abby also had a lot of emotions swirling around that could have been expanded upon. And, of course, Adam and Abby’s love affair.

BUT…I also couldn’t do without the latest with Mac (my fav) and Maddie, Joe/ Janey, Blaine/Tiffany, Luke/Syd, etc. And I adore Big Mac and voodoo mama Linda. Big Mac could lay me out in a puddle of drool if he called me “sweetheart”. Yea, he’s an old guy, but who cares, I continue to crush big time. Have to say I felt a bit unsettled about the McCarthy brothers and friend Dan involved in the boating accident. By the end of the story we get what happened to Grant, but did all the brothers’ troubles go away after that? Are there still some residual thoughts/emotions stirring about the trauma surrounding the accident? Just not sure that was all resolved. And what about Dan/Kara’s relationship? I need more to that than the quickie we got in the last bk. Maybe since these two aren’t McCarthy’s or related to they don’t get as much print time. That would be a shame.

Overall this series has ambled around to these mini romances and am guessing that’s the way it will go from here on out since I hear there are cousins to come out of the woodwork. Also who thinks Betsey (Steve’s mom) and Frank (Bic Mac’s bro) may have a romance in the works? I personally hope MF keeps up with the rest of the characters while adding new ones, just wish the main romance could be a longer story. Here’s another wish…for MF to include a map of the island for her readers (much like Jan Karon did in her last bk of The Mitford Series). Count me in as looking forward to David and Daisy’s story as well as all the latest from the Gansett characters when bk 9 comes around.

There are times when you need a sweet-fun-romantic book and Marie Force delivers hands down! You know there is definitely a HEA and you enjoy every minute of it! This book is #8 in a fabulous series about the McCarthy Family. Every book includes all characters from past books, they all become your family because you know them so well. I would recommend the entire series to all who are die hard romantics and love reading sweet, fabulous love stories! Sometimes after reading some of those intense, crazy stories, a loveable book is needed to calm you, soothe you and just make you happy, and this one did it for me!!

3.5 stars...A lengthy blurb/synopsis pretty much tells the story of this one. Adam & Abby! Who would have thought it? Two people come home to Gansett Island to lick their wounds from recent relationships gone bad. Two people decide to throw caution to the wind and let it all hang out . . . together. Interesting dynamic when Abby is Adam's brother Grant's ex-fiancé. Let the fireworks begin! Lot of insta-lust and insta-love in this one. I had a little trouble buying into it especially given their past which included zero attraction. But this is romance, and I loved catching up with some of the other couples so Yes, Another Must Read in this series! And may I add - H*ll yeah Carolina and Seamus!

Marie Force has done it again in treating us to another wonderful instalment to the Gansett Island series. When you think you can't possibly love a McCarthy brother any more, along comes another one who is completely irresistible in every way and steals your heart.

The lives of all the Gansett residents, who we have grown to love like family, continue to evolve taking us on a journey filled with every possible emotion. The aftermath of the sailboat disaster in Longing For Love plays a huge part in this book and brought some truly heart-wrenching moments when I actually wanted to delve into the book and take away Grant, Mac, Evan and Dan's pain. But the heart-wrenching moments are perfectly balanced with laugh-out-loud humour and fabulous steamy moments making for a book that I couldn't put down. If I could dish out more than 5 stars, I happily would.

I can't recommend reading Waiting for Love highly enough. I absolutely loved every single page and look forward to our next visit to Gansett Island.

Loved Abby and Adam’s book, I wasn’t looking forward to this one having previously disliked Abby when she had cropped up in previous books, turns out that Abby and Adam’s Book is going to be one of my favourites from the series so far along with Sydney and Luke’s book.

The reason I gave 3 stars because I hate Abby so much.. urrgghh.. I think she was selfish brat.

But I absolutely adore another couples story, that what makes me keep on reading this book.

I know why we can't helped falling in love with someone, but brother from our ex-boyfie? I mean.. SISTAH.. its boundary. Marie Force can do better than that. The relationship so repulsive to me I even skip the sex scene part, because I can't stomach the idea they're having sex without remember about Grant, Adam's brother. urrgghh..

The reason why I think Abby such a lame character are :
1. When she was Grant's girlfriend, she feels lonely because Grant was busy pursuing his career, why she's not being busy too? she still can open store or making some business on LA too right? That's Hollywood for God's sake, the land of opportunities. why she must whining about Grant not marry her ASAP and back to Gansett licking her wound?

2. When Grant try to chase her back and sacrifice his career, she showing off on Grant's face about she was engaged to Cal, the Doc. its like 10 years together she can throw it away. Bullshiting about they should move on just because she was hooked up with big handsome Doctor. what a bitch. Thank God Grant found Stephanie and truly love her. that's love, we sacrifice without asking or hoping our partner to sacrifice too, just to get what we want (in this case: Abby want to be married, with two point five kids, and white picket fences. It doesn't matter who was the Guy, as long as he got Dick) ok. Pardon my French.

3. When Abby's relationship with Cal didn't work out, once again she immediately bail out from Texas and flew back to Gansett without telling a words to him. its like her MO you know, left relationship without saying anything to solve the problem. And when Cal chase her back to Gansett, she attack Cal with how busy he was being a Doctor whilst taking care of his mum who was sick with strokes (what a attention seeker bitch she was) and with her arsenal told Cal that he was still have a feeling with Candy, Cal's Ex. GIRL.. you admit to defeat. if I were Abby I will not give up easily with some big fake boobs & blond type. I'll show Cal how mature I am. Every relationship not perfect except you communicate, not flying back to your hometown without telling anything to your partner, instead cursing at your life about how unlucky you are. how "mature".!! you start getting why I pissed? and I don't think she deserve her happy ending.

4. Once again Abby showing off on Cal's face when he grovel trying to get her back, just because she start 'the casual fling' with Adam. See.. as long as she got a man beside her, she was ok to throw away relationship. OMG I really hate her. I didn't realise how much I hate her until I write this review.

Adam.. well about Adam not much to say, he's a man, still raw about betrayal from his ex-GF seeing woman like Abby look so fragile he can't help it. But still I think Adam didn't read BRO-CODE about never dating your brother's ex.

In the end I think they deserve each other. because both are stupid.

Marie Force I love you to the bone. you've made such great stories, except this one. Abby really failed me as heroine. its one thing read this book as stand alone, its another when you start from book one and thru with the characters inside. I really really really love and adore another character tho, you're such great story teller Marie Force. you swoon me with McCarthys (except Adam) and also Luke and Joe.

I can't wait to read book 9 about David. I hope he do his penance this time and be great hero for Daisy.

If you are a fan of Marie Force , you will not be disappointed with her latest Gansett Island chapter - Waiting for Love . As with all of this series, there are loads of McCarthys to swoon over, with the last of the five siblings finding love in the arms of a surprising life-long friend.

Waiting for Love also provided readers glimpses of all the couples in the series, which at times, caused a little dizziness again, trying to recall each challenge facing that pair of the moment. There were some surprising but enjoyable new situations develop. With a plentiful supply of love scenes not only involving the main couple, you will be filled to the brim if that is what you enjoy, and confident that all is still happy in the love bubble of Gansett Island.

The pace at which Abby and Adam's relationship developed was believable. Abby needed to learn to love herself and her ability to function independent of a man, in order to be content. Adam's heart required the healing balm that being surrounded by his family provided, having given his soul to his successful company in New York for the previous fourteen years.

As usual, Marie Force's witty humor was delightful - that is definitely one of her strengths that i love. If you haven't yet started this series, go back to the beginning and read Maid for Love . Each couple has their own story, circumstances to overcome to find love, and comedic interferences from family and friends to endure. You don't want to miss out on those! This was a fun book to read and as predictable as it was meant to be. Enjoy!!!

This series is completely amazing. I started it when i saw that Maid for love was free and i decided to give a try, now i'm just completely hooked and in love with each and every character even if they are not the main characters they stay with you and you think about them constantly. Marie Force will take you on a ride where you will find love, happiness and heartbreak, but you are going to love every second of it and you will not regret it. What i love about this series is that Marie doesn't forget about her previous main characters and she just doesn't give you 2 sentences about them in the next book, no, you keep seeing them and also the other characters and yet you are still able to feel who are the main characters of that book. Is truly amazing how she manages to make you want to go to Brock Island and start a new life and find all these characters and make friends with them. Every book gets better and better and i'm seriously scared when she will finally have that final book in the series, hope it takes her years and many many more books before that happens.

Go ahead and give this series a chance, you will not be disappointed.

OK when I read the synopsis that Adam was with Abby I have to say I was a bit creeped out. For one last we saw Abby she was riding off in the sunset with her Texas doctor and two she was with his brother for like ten years. Yes his brother is happily engaged but still creepy. We really have not met Adam who his only been mentioned in the previous books. I have to say Adam is my favorite brother just barely beating out Mac. I have a thing for nerds so basically a nerdy version of Mac and you have a winner for me. I loved the development of the story and the fact that the whole relationship covers a little more than three days. It was an intense three days but the relationship was believable. I love the fact that David and Daisy are next. I wonder if Dan and Kara will get their own book or will their relationship be told through others like Carolina and Seamus. I wonder who will be with the lighthouse keeper my money is on Laura's brother but who knows it could be anyone. With this author you at times have to expect the unexpected.

I really liked this installment. The McCarthy brothers will always be my favorite characters and their stories compel me in a way others in the series will never be able to. I'm terribly depressed to see there will not be any more single siblings to read about, but at least we have one more cousin, lol. For some reason it's just not the same to read a book in this series which is not from a member of this amazing family. While reading about the family's friends is nice, you just feel like you are missing a lot of meaningful and much needed information.

Adam was amazing, and it was great to see Abby back into a life she deserved more than anybody else.

Terrific read.

4.5! I just adore this series. As I blazed through it, I thought maybe this one was shorter than the others. I don't think so.. I don't think she could write one long enough for me. Abby and Adam were adorable I can never get enough of catching up with the McCarthy brood and friends. I cannot wait for more.

Marie has done it again! I just couldn't stop reading once I picked this book up and started it! Admittedly, I was already in love with other characters from previous books and the location. I was anxiously awaiting the release, and was not disappointed. Marie has to be my favorite author, and now I must try to be patient for her next story about my favorite family.
