Blurb:
Since Bollywood's earliest days, women have played a part in its success, both in front of the camera and away from it. Yet it has taken more than half a century for women to assert their presence in significant numbers in Bollywood. Today, Hindi cinema relies on a record number of women who work tirelessly, sometimes invisibly, to keep the world's largest dream factory buzzing.
This book tells the story of twenty incredible women, many with no prior connections in the industry, who have carved successful careers despite significant challenges. They often work away from the public gaze-as studio heads, producers, directors, make-up artists, stylists, script writers, lyricists, editors, choreographers, stunt artists, set designers, and in the many other jobs that support the making of a movie. These women deserve to be applauded and their journeys acknowledged, as they transform Bollywood and in the process, create a new India.

The book is inspiring yet refreshing as it throws lights on 20 female artists connected with bollywood but away from limelight.
It gave me a preview of various behind the scene artists and technicians who plays an important role in movie making.
It is more difficult to set foot in Bollywood for females because it's a male dominated industry from the beginning but over the years females have broken the glass ceiling and proven their significance in almost every aspect of film making business.
Even today bollywood remains somewhat tough for females because of no fixed working hour, far away work location, frequent traveling for uncertain duration and gender biases in work credits & payment. Inspite of it all these women fought hard and earn their well deserved status in this patriarchal world.
Some of them have literally no former connections in bollywood and yet they made the journey to the top on their own so it can inspire thousands bollywood aspirants who don't have so called godfathers to favor them.

My favorites of these women were Sneha Khanwalker, Charu Khanna, Geeta Tondon, Rohini Iyer and Hetal Dedhia.

While many of them are trailblazers in their respective fields, it’s surprising to see not a lot of them experienced much discrimination in an industry typically known to be very male and star-oriented. Some favourites include Geeta Tandon, Sneha Khanwalkar and Hetal Dedhia, all of whom defy odds while honestly capturing the struggles that come with being a female stunt artist, music director and gaffer respectively.

It's a wonderful book. It's a type of book which inspire and motivate you. Every stories told in this book is wonderful. The sense of writing is amazing and easy to read. It motivate people's to work consistently to their goals with will power and hardwork. The stories in this book tells us that even if you don't have any Godfather in Bollywood you can still ride to the top with hardwork and passion. I personally think that this book motivate the female workers who are working in Bollywood to keep doing hardwork with everything that they have so that they can attend great achievements in the future and rise to the top of the Flim industry.

Loved the book and so appropriately timed. There is so much the film going public like me doesn’t know.

Had no clue women could not officially be film make up artists until 2014 😱😱😱 Well done Charu !

What an inspiration all the women in the book are. It’s a great read for anyone who knows and doesn’t know Bollywood

Just finished reading this wonderful book. A very well knit book. In a world of men, it is hardwork, perseverance and often the spark to laugh often, that has made these women trailblazers.

In terms of the concept, this is a good book with great anecdotes. We might be aware of the journey of the most popular women in the Hindi film industry but this book introduces you to the women behind the scenes who go unnoticed.

The annoying and disappointing part were the crazy amount of typos. If you ignore that, this is a good read.
