This is a great little rhyming story about Dynomike and his animals friends Spunky, Winky, and Jack Brussels. Dynomike, Spunky and Winky head to Jack's house to see if he can come ride bikes with them. But when they get there, Jack's mom is super sick so Jack needs to stay home to take care of her.
Seeing Jack and his mom feeling down makes everyone sad. That's when Dynomike gets a heartfelt idea and they all start brainstorming heartfulness! The book is a super upbeat pre-k story that sends a great message about caring for others!
Dynomike is also a part of a series with other stories like Friendsgiving, Love Bug, and Come At Me, Bro!

A cute, simple children's story about heartfulness (like mindfulness, but with your heart, I suppose?). There was inconsistency in the spelling of Jack Brussels's last name (even the synopsis spells it incorrectly) and rather than "pedaling" the bike, the author used a conjugation of the word "peddle" twice. With a round of editing, this book could be a positive read for children.

I found this book through Online Book Club's Book of the Day. It's free on Amazon today.

Dynomike: What's Heartfulness? is a story to explain heartfulness to children in a way that shows it I see being caring and kind. The story is about Jack, a dog, who can't ride his bike with his friends because his mum is sick. His friends decide they must try and help his mum become better and decides heartfulness will be the best option.

I am not sure about this book as whilst it is a lovely idea for a story, it is also a bit confusing. Heartfulness is a concept I have not heard before and it doesn't really get explained clearly until the end of the story. I also find it's misleading as if Jacks mum really is sick then heartfulness won't magically make her better, she may feel more cared for and loved but she'll still be physically sick! It seems that at the start of the story she is physically sick as she coughs and wheezes with something worse than the flu whilst at the end she is no longer depressed. Well which is it?! I feel this leads the children to believe any illness can be cured by them being kind and that is not the case and may leave the children feeling they have done wrong.

The kindness shown from the characters throughout the story are lovely as so many children would just go and play without Jack so I like that they are kind and caring so he is not left out from the fun. This is great for the children to see as it shows true friendship.

The illustrations in the book are very brightly coloured and will keep the children's attention and they make the friends look like they're having lots of fun. It is lovely how heartfulness is shown with lots of pinks and hearts as it is something the children will recognise and it makes it easy for the children to see when heartfulness is taking place and how it could work.

I am left unsure of this book, I think it's great to see such kindness from friends but I don't like how heartfulness is shown to make Jack's mum better. Great to show the importance of kindness but I think I'll have to give this one 3 stars.

‘Heartfulness – a simple practice of meditation that connects us all with light and love in our hearts.’

New Jersey author Frankie B. Rabbit has been a hop-hop artist/rapper and now is trying his talent at writing. According to his biographical data, ‘while his rap career was dragging with monotony, he enters, yet another, freestyle rap battle at B.B. Kings in New York City—which ended being his last rap battle after being defeated by an 8 year old second grader in the first round—his name was Dynomike! “The lyrical niceness, my rhymes so tight I give nightmares to vice grips! This mic is five bucks, this night is five bucks, and Dynomike is — is priceless!” That was only one of the sixteen bars he dropped on Frankie B. Rabbit.’ And there is the inspiration for his first book DYNOMIKE BACK TO SCHOOL. Now we have DYNOMIKE WHAT’S HEARTFULNESS? And the illustrations are by Don Suratos.

Frankie’s newest little story and character Dynomike are related in excellent rhyme: to give and idea, the first page reads, ‘Off to the park on this bright sunny day. Dynomike on his bike, peddling away. He meets up with Spunky and Winky to play. “Let’s pick up Jack Brussles.’ Dynomike leads the way.’ But of course something does get in the way – Brussels’ mother is sick and Brussels can’t bike with the crew The friends feel sad that Brussels mother is ill and begin to come up with ideas to help – being funny to improve her mood, whistling or bringing some fruit! But Dynamite comes up with the idea of Heartfulness – being kind, giving love and having thoughtful intentions – gifts of a very special sort – and when shared with Brussels’ mother she becomes well1

The series just gets better with each new release. Dynomike is rapidly becoming one of the strongest proponents of teaching children healthy interactions while entertaining them well.

Discover how heartfulness can change the world!

My granddaughter and I have been looking forward to the next Dynomike book, and as soon as we opened it we were greeted by our favourite character, Dynomike, and his friends. The rhyming stories and way it is so wonderfully illustrated captured her interest, and I think it is a great way to introduce children to books and reading.

In this book ‘What is Heartfulness’ the friends are concerned when they visit their friend Jack Brussels and he is sad. His mother is sick and no-one knows what to do to make her better.
Jack tells them he can’t play that day and to leave them alone, but being good friends his pals set their heads together, desperately trying to think what they can do to make things better. It is Dynomike who comes up with the idea of spreading heartfulness.

What is heartfulness? Well it is being kind, spreading love and caring from within yourself and showering it on others, doing kind deeds, thinking kind thoughts… being, well nice.

So, while Jack’s mom is asleep the friends in secret take her heartfulness, and when she wakes up – well – you just have to read and see for yourself the wonderful changes spreading heartfulness can make!

And Jack, well with his mom better, he’s off out to play, but when he asks his friends what they did the previous day – they just wink.

This is yet another wonderful book spreading the word of love and caring and how little deeds can make the world of difference to people, and what’s more, when you have finished this story, the author gives you another one free!

A lovely story which will enchant children and encourage them to become caring and considerate people.

This short book for young readers is full of clear, simple, colourful and delightful illustrations (by Don Suratos) which enhance the story and the message. The thick line around the characters seems to bring them to life and help you focus on them as they plan and plot their way through the narrative.

Jack’s mother is unwell with something like flu and that prevents Jack from playing with his friends. What will they do without him? Will they go ahead and enjoy themselves anyway? One member of the group says that they should practice heartfulness – which turns out to be another way of saying ‘kindness’. It’s more complex than it sounds though as we discover that elements of heartfulness include sacrificing your own fun to help others, working things out in a group, having the intention to do what’s good and turning ideas into concrete plans of kindness. I was particularly pleased to see that heartfulness also included being kind to yourself!

Needless to say, Jack gets to go cycling with the group, but not until heartfulness has been simply demonstrated and things are back on track. This is a straightforward book for young readers or for reading to young children. They will be delighted with the captivating illustrations and they’ll soon learn the rhyming text. And, hopefully, they’ll learn too to be kind to themselves and to others. An excellent children’s book!

Author Frankie B. Rabbit and illustrator Don Suratos have created story characters children will be happy to look at and listen to. This colorful read-to-me storybook has energetic, cheerful illustrations that will appeal to both children and adults. Their happy, expressive faces make them good examples of the book’s central idea: heartfulness. Rabbit defines heartfulness as a building block of meditation, providing a means for expressing kind intentions and linking people to each other through love. The vocabulary is not beyond beginning readers, but some may have difficulty with the concepts on which the story is based. Adult help may be needed with the notions that feelings can be controlled and directed intentionally, although children can read independently about friends who make and execute a plan to cheer a playmate when his mother becomes sick. Dynomike fans will enjoy this latest entry in a growing series of gentle, supportive stories.

I just read this with my 2.5 year old and we both loved it. I absolutely love the idea of teaching kids intention. The line “Close your eyes with hands on your heart. Think thoughtful intentions where heartfulness starts.” really made me smile. When I meditate I repeat the phrase "Love, light and good intention" and I felt like this book was an embodiment of that phrase in a way that makes sense to kids. I also like the idea of focusing on emotional health when you're physically sick, I think that's a really good message, as long as it's explained that sometimes people don't recover as quickly as Jack's mom did in the story. All in all I think it's a great children's book. The pictures are bright and colorful and kept my sons attention. We'll be reading the other Dynomike stories as well.

In one of the most brightly colored children’s books I’ve ever seen, a tiny dinosaur on a tricycle plays with a few friends, their exploits recorded in rare stanzas where all four lines use the same rhyme, at least on the first page. The mom of one of the friends is sick and they brainstorm ideas to make her better.
Doesn’t feel like heartfulness is explained all that well, at least not in the story; there’s a page on it after. Don’t know why it was so important the friend didn’t find out what they had done.
Cute, but I think the message could have been a little clearer. Perhaps this was designed so the kid would ask the parent to explain.

This was cuuuuuuuute!

Oh this was charming. First and foremost, the bright colors and fun, expressive animal characters were so enjoyable to look at. I also am a sucker for rhyming picture books too (not to mention some parts made me laugh too). Then the message of the book was fantastic too - being kind to others! Even BETTER was the message that being kind and doing something for others isn't about getting credit and a pat on the back. The reward is what you have done for someone else. What an incredible lesson to teach a child! I highly recommend this.

Dynomike and his friends practice kindness and thoughtfulness when another friend's mom is sick. I loved the fun and colorful illustrations in this book, and the message is one that we could all stand to hear more of. However, while I tend to like rhyming kids' books, in this case I thought it distracted from the story.

Children's book on loving-kindness

This is a children's story on the healing quality of compassion. It's gives the idea of Buddhism practice of loving-kindness in a way children can understand. It has vibrant colors and great art work. I love the rhythming pose. A good book for kids.

This is my second or third Dinomike book. This one is meant to teach heartfulness and it does an excellent job. Considering the reader is sitting in quarantine (I’ve had this book a while), it’s lesson and actions really hit home. I love the colorful graphics that pull the reader in. While most of the books rhyme, the cadence is harsh at times but not distractedly so.

A good, encouraging book

This book is colorful and inspirational. I wish it could’ve been a little longer, but maybe it’s a good length for children.

This was my first encounter with Dynomike, and I thought the book was adorable. The illustrations were bright and colorful and the silly characters made me laugh. A winking owl riding a unicycle? A dinosaur wearing a chicken shirt? Too cute. The rhymes were flowing and fun. I really liked the positive message of heartfulness: being kind to yourself and to others. Little ones would enjoy this book for sure!
