Finding Jesus: A tale of boy meets chico

Rate this book
One British boy and one Spanish chico meet during one short sweltering summer. Deep in the heartland of inland Spain the narrator meets Jesús - a gorgeous local boy while on a long holiday. Sharing food and stories in their whitewashed town under the castle, their connection grows and blossoms. This is a gay romance that's sexy and erotically charged. Yet at the same time poignant, sad and moving. It should evoke memories of warm sensuous summers, profound relaxation and caring masculine eyes - in a summer fling that's hard to forget.

If you enjoyed Call Me By Your Name then you should expect to enjoy this escapade.

This short read was not bad, but I never felt any emotional connection with any of the characters in the book. The author described the setting of the book so well; it was almost like it was another character. He failed for me to treat the characters with the same care. The writer has talent and uses words beautifully, but the book still needed better editing. There were times I had to read a few passages over a few times to figure out what he meant due to missing words. I do look forward to reading more from this author, but this one just missed the mark for me.

I can definitely see why the author compared this to Call Me By Your Name. Like that novel, thus short is very descriptive and treats the location almost as a character unto itself. However, also like that book, it's a little rambly/weirdly metaphorical at times. I didn't like some of the word choices and metaphors. I found some of the descriptions boring and unnecessary. All in all, it was fine, but didn't really strike any chords with me.

2.75 stars. This author has potential. There needs to be more work on editing and descriptive phrases.
