Every so often I come across a book that is a good companion but not necessarily a great read. It’s a book that I carry along with me everywhere I go, and read it every chance I get, but I wouldn’t recommend it to others. It’s an entertaining distraction, but I just can’t give it 5⭐️s. The Weight Is Over by Sylenna Johnson is that kind of book.
I read this book in New Orleans while on a business trip. It was the perfect book for traveling because it required very little thought. The simplicity of Syleena’s story was welcoming while attending day after day of real estate conferences.
In her book Syleena shares her struggles with weight and body image. Beginning with her childhood she writes about all the things that caused her to gain weight and develop low self-esteem. As the book progressed she revealed what she did to take control of both her weight and her life.
What I liked about this book is that it was a quick, easy read. The story flowed well. And I learned a few things about the author that I didn’t know. However, I would have loved for Syleena to go deeper in sharing her story. It felt as if everything she shared was surface. And it’s for this reason I give the book 2 1/2 out of 5 ⭐️s.
As I listen to Syleena speak of her book I wanted to read it. A little overwhelmed at how personal it was. The self help materials were on point, wasn't expecting it to be a bio self help book.
This was an extremely helpful read. While I do not usually read self-help books this one was more motivational than others. It gave relatable anecdotes with calls to action. The 21 Day pre journey/ journal gives a hands on place to begin.
I loved this book simply because it was so relatable. I was able to personally identify with many of the struggles that Syleena shared, so this book really hit home for me.
Syleena was so open and down to earth in this book. Her story is very relatable. It will be a book I will refer to when I need a boost of encouragement.
