From the author of “Lodge A Five Step Guide to Masonic Reform” Worshipful Brother Matt Nelson presents “Mind the Navigating the Space From Here to There.” The book explores the culture found within Masonry that is due to the gaps we find between the generations. The gap of age and time created a gap in understanding and empathy. The older generations, for good reason, refuse to let go of the reign and allow the younger generations to guide. The younger generations, again for good reason, become frustrated with the lack of momentum and often find something else to fill their limited, precious time. Each generation has its unique characteristics and qualities. All are flawed, all have untapped potential. Very few of the generations understand each other, and even fewer are bridging these gaps. Nelson makes clear arguments and guidelines. He states it will take a great understanding, a magnificent awareness, to begin to bridge the gaps. Gaps created by generational differences and social concepts. It takes an astute leader to know the various types of management, when to implement them and gain growth in the levels of leadership. The older generational leader has an obligation to the younger leaders. They must see how vital it is that they give up the reigns and guide the future leaders as a mentor. The younger generational leader needs to understand the various motivational elements that make up the complex senior members. Leaders generally must be directed to help each generation see how the others may be positioned in their thinking, and how to get the crew to all play on the same team. Get the right people in, and get them in the right spot, then keep them in and working. It is not enough to gain numbers; we need to gain Masons.
