Five years ago, Remy Lovell and his mother were exiled from their Dog Hills pack and left to fend for themselves. When they joined the Meadow Lake wolves, it was with the hope that they could start again and build a new life for themselves. When Remy rejects the newly risen alpha’s offer to mate, he’s marked as a traitor and sentenced to die.
An alpha with a missing piece of his heart.
Colby Thorne couldn’t forget his first love. They had something as teenagers, but when Remy and his mother disappeared, a piece of Colby’s heart went missing with him. Remy’s return ignites a passion inside of Colby that he never imagined he would be able to feel again. He promises himself that he only wants to help his former friend, but the feelings are stronger than ever.
Reunited at last.
As the future Head Alpha, Colby offers to keep Remy safe and help him through his pain, but Remy’s resistance, and his hatred for alphas, makes their alliance an uneasy one. Remy’s return has dangerous consequences, and these two unlikely allies must work together to keep the Dog Hills Pack, and Remy, safe.
The Alpha’s Scarred Mate is a gay romance novel set in an omegaverse with alpha, beta, and omega dynamics. This world also features wolf shifters, knotting, and themes of male pregnancy (mpreg). This second chance love story is part of a series, but has a HFN ending with no cheating.
***While mpreg is possible in this world, this book does NOT contain an mpreg storyline. However, book #1.5 (The Alpha’s Birthday Gift) does, and The Alpha’s Scarred Mate contains a link to the free story.***
Meg Bawden was born and raised in North Queensland, Australia. She’s loved stories since before she can remember and has always enjoyed creating characters of her own, even if it did begin with drawing faces on toilet rolls and giving them names. Writing has always been a passion of hers and she’s loved the M/M genre since 2004, the first book she read being Rainbow Boys by Alex Sanchez.
Writing M/M since 2007, Meg has never had the confidence to attempt publishing her own stories, but in 2015, she decided that it was all about to change thanks to the amazing friends she’s made in the M/M genre and their support and encouragement. So watch out, world, Meg Bawden is coming out to have some fun!
Actually a very good shifter book. Not many can write a full length shifter book well.
It’s set in the Omegaverse with Alphas, Betas, and Omegas.
The MCs were former good friends and on their way to being more when Remy and his mother left suddenly. Colby went on with his life and was shocked when Remy turned up 5 years later.
Their chemistry is fantastic and the secondary characters were interesting, particularly Cassius, who is a charming flirt.
The only character I had a hard time reconciling is Colby’s dad, who is the pack Alpha, yet seems quite inept.
The ebook includes a link for a short novella that continues Colby and Remy’s story a bit, and was equally charming.
I’ve read this author before. This is set in the mpreg world of wolf shifters. The main characters are Alpha Colby and Omega Remy. Loved the world building. Can’t wait to read more from this author and series.
This storyline is just all over the place. The characters’ behaviors are erratic and this shifter society seems to have no “normal”. Remy is always angry until suddenly he’s not. Cody is always calm until suddenly he’s not. There are laws, but not really because sometimes anything goes. These are shifters, who can shift and heal, but also who can be cut and scarred by the wounds.
It just got too confusing. Add in the way some words are tossed into the story as though the author called up a thesaurus and randomly grabbed a new word every now and then, and it becomes a bit much to read.
1: between Jessica, Colby's mom, & Remy's mom, were there any female characters who weren't monsters? I get that this is MM romance, but in order to enjoy two guys falling in love, that doesn't mean you have to loathe females. Just all around insufferable. Jessica was manipulative. Colby's mom was absolutely intolerable to have on-scene, his father always shoeing her out of the room, which is probably why she was so nasty all the time with the level of disrespect she endured. Remy's mom was a nonstop liar.
2: Inconsistencies. How do you become scarred when they have healing powers? How old was Remy when he left? How do you get arrested for assaulting an older, larger male when you are a small minor child? (a cop would have laughed over a little kid punching a nearly grown oversized alpha male) How could they have gone to school together if Colby was nearing adulthood but Remy was barely 14 when they fled? Sometimes there was an age-gap between them, but then the flashbacks made it seem as if they were the same age.
3: Remy himself was absolutely insufferable to read. The anger would make sense if not always directed at the wrong targets. The anger was irrational, like he needed medication. Several times, I said down to my Kindle, "Let him leave- he deserves whatever happens for being a vindictive moron." Remy wouldn't answer a question, nor allow anyone to get a word in edgewise to explain why they needed to ask the question in the first place. He kept saying/thinking Colby was 'too good' Did he want Colby to coldcock him for being a snot? Did he want to know what happened or not? Oddly enough, while an omega but also male, Remy sounded exactly like Colby's vindictive mother, that same level of ridiculous intolerable snarling at everyone. Remy reminded me of all the stereotypes the female gender dragged over. This comes off as childish. He didn't want help (it's not sassy or cute or badass or spunky), so after treating everyone so disrespectfully, don't let the door hit you on the way out...
So I closed out the book (shut the door) and DNFed the novel, because Remy is not redeemable, shifting between irrational rage and sugary sweet. He's not an animal lashing out. More like someone who needs intense therapy, because this rage isn't tied to anything that happened to him. If he doesn't like the system, change it. Acting like a child will only make the impression that he is incapable of autonomy.
This is a story of second chance love. These two were good friends then because of circumstance got pulled apart, only to find love with each other again. It was kind of an uphill battle, but they got there. I enjoyed the riding in the characters. I have lots of questions, but I think that’ll be answered in the next book. While this does have a the things I love about shifter books it is lacking on the spicy smexy time. And I’m not a fan of the claiming coming at the end so it’s rushed. Good book can’t wait to see what happens next.
I enjoyed this book, a lot in fact. I liked the bits of backstory showing us Colby and Remy's history and how it pertained to the present. I liked Cassius who was the most unusual alpha I have ever read about. The doctors and Alpha Jorge. The character line up was wonderful and the story a sweet second chance at love with intrigue and overcoming hardship and obstacles.
However, there were a few inconsistencies that made me twitch a bit and took away from the story. At first, they say Remy is 19, he hasn't been to the pack lands in 5 years, he was 14 when his mom dragged him away and he never saw Colby again before where this book picked up. Then later they talk about Remy punching an alpha from his old pack and getting arrested. His current packmate (a beta named Xavier) does not know about it but Colby does. If Remy hadn't been into the pack-lands or seen the packmates of his previous pack since 14 how did he punch one and get arrested at 16? How did he and Colby first kiss at 16 when it previously said 14? It just made the timeline...glitchy for want of a better word.
The book was good but the odd time jumps kept popping in and making things confusing. It also could have used an editor as sometimes the wrong word was used or extra letters were placed in a word as if the author tried to write two words and melded them together or hit an extra letter when typing and it was never edited out.
All in all good story and great characters but a few too many mistakes.
This is the first book I have read by this author and it definitely won't be my last. It is well-written, has a great storyline, the characters are amazing and the world building is excellent. Remy and Colby have quite a history and when Remy returns to the Dog Hills Pack after his current pack tries to kill him they both will have major decisions to make. As Colby's father investigates what happened to make Remy's mother flee their pack when he was a teenager Remy learns that he was manipulated and lied to. His anger towards alphas is understandable but he is still drawn to Colby and fighting his omega instincts takes everything he has. Colby wants to help Remy and convince him to stay in the Dog Hills Pack but not everyone in the pack wants him there. They have a lot of obstacles to deal with and the strength of their bond will be tested. The only thing that I don't like about this story is how Colby's mother gets away with being hateful and cruel to Remy. I wish that Colby and his father stood up for him more. My favorite part is how resilient and brave Remy is in spite of what happened in his past. The secondary characters add a lot to the story as well and I look forward to reading the next book in this exciting new series.

When Remy turns up injured and hypothermic Colby shocked and determined to save him. Smelling the scent of two males Alpha Colby goes to investigate and finds two shifters wet with hypothermia one of whom is bleeding. Colby recognizes the injured male a Omega Remy who he had known and cared for growing up so he picks him up and takes him to the doctor.Remy had his face cut open the mark of a traitor to the pack by his current Alpha after refusing to mate with him then he had been held down and a heavy weight attached to his ankle before being thrown into a frozen lake. His friend Xavier had rescued him from the water performed CPR and dragged him to where they had been found by his old crush Colby. A MM shifter romance to relax and enjoy.

Incredibly bad storytelling...and I am not exaggerating. It's jarringly bad. It reads like a bunch of clumped up ideas, held together by a story that really just does not want to be held together. Almost like the author visualises random scenes at different times, writes them down, and then tries to make it into a story at a later date, resulting in a patchwork mess. Crazy, disjointed dialogue (seriously, what's up with Cassius? Is he a caricature of a human being??) . Character interactions that make little sense. Truly idiotic reasoning and motivation of main characters. Emotions that make little sense... Reactions that make little sense... sigh... I have no idea how anyone can rate it more than 1 or 2 stars. Quality wise, it is worse that a lot of fan fiction I have read in the past...
Complex and interesting story-line with great characters and an intriguing mystery. The writing flowed and i so enjoyed the story-line. Remy and Colby have some obstacles to overcome and i loved watching these guys learn to trust and love.
i enjoyed seeing the childhood friends reunited and watching those feelings grow into love. There were lots of politics at play and that made the story interesting.
This is the first book in The Dog Hills Pack Series and i am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I was gifted this book from the author and i freely give my review
I enjoy anything this author writes. Having said that This is not really my genre. I’m not into fantasy and human shifter books but because it was written by the author I gave it a go. I Think if you like this type of book you would love it. Meg always writes a story that absorbs you. It’s a good second chance romance. The mother drove me up the wall - which I guess is always the point of these characters. It only just scratches the surface of the world and there’s lots of other stories to tell here. I would recommend to those who read this genre.
Love this shifter story of best friends reuniting and it's a great start to a new series. Remi is back in the Dog Hill Pack and he's just perfect for Colby, his friend from high school. I really love them together and how their romance develops. But there is also a mystery to solve that adds a lot to the story. Looking forward to more from this series. This is the first book in The Dog Hills Pack Series. An intriguing book the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters captivating. The characters were developed and thought out. Remy Lovell is an Omega and Colby Thorne is an Alpha and they are the MC’s of this book and mates. I can recommend this book as a good read. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

This is my first time reading from this author and I really liked the story line. Colby and Remy were good characters to get to know .This was a new take on a new shifter romance and community that I liked and can't wait to read more about.

Remy injured, shackled and thrown in the lake to die for telling his alpha no to mating him. Colby in love with Remy when he vanished 5 years ago and not losing him now. Join them on the journey of fighting evil, solving a mystery, and figuring how to go forward now. Good characters, lots of drama and action.

I admittedly dislike mpreg because I dislike books with kids. This one is set in an omegaverse world but is more focused on politics than making babies.
i loved this book! Colby and Remy melted my heart. they so deserve the love they have, especially Remy. i totally understand his mistrust/hatred of alphas, and Colby is so sweet to him! gah what a great read. i would def recommend this book.
This was a great read. The storyline is full of adventure and romance the characters are fun and exciting. If you a great action filled adventure romance with great characters then this story is for you. This is a mm romance adventure.
What I liked most about this was how there was such great world building while getting the story. The way the author layered both with more details as you read through keeps you very connected. I can't wait to read more.
Decent storyline with a few repetitive bits that kept me from rating it higher. I really hate having stuff repeated ad nauseum. We are left with some lingering issues and questions. Link to download free short story included at end which is a nice surprise.
The writing style wasn’t my favorite and was boring. It also felt like there was a lot going on but at the same time nothing was really explained. Plus I hate the girlfriend. I wanted them to be more fated mates or something.
