A truly interesting read for those boring afternoons. I've always been intrigued by the stories and the types of people taxi, uber and rideshare drivers encounter. I have on more than one occasion sought out to broach the subject on my many rides. I was excited to get started because this book is like an all-access pass. The stories range from the normal to the weird and from the sad to the hilarious. It's sometimes strange how people open up so easily to a random stranger, but I guess if they didn't then this book wouldn't resonate with the average person. What I liked most about the book were the chapter titles. Each chapter title set the stage, so as quickly as I finished one story I was on to the next. Some of the stories that had me laughing out loud were, "The Yellow Hotel, Odds and Ends and Heave-Ho" The relationships between C.D and his fellow drivers is heartwarming and funny. A mixture of characters brought together this chosen career path. My favorite is Jax because we all have that one person in our lives who is like a ticking time bomb.

The book is based on true people and events, so the raw emotions are real. I felt the frustration, anger, and humor that C.D Howell feels in those interactions. The fun he has in "Kissing The Derby" with a couple on their first date as he continuously blocks Ed's attempt to kiss Kelly. The author interacts with the reader in each story. Throughout the book, it felt like I was in a room with other readers as the author shares his stories. I really enjoyed that. Being the inquisitive person that I am, I was left wanting to know what happened next like in "Domestic Dispute." A rideshare driver is only privy to those few minutes in his car. Yeah, so that part sucks.

The problem with real life is most times there's no filter. The presence of profanity while it brings authenticity to who C.D Howell is, it was a turn off for me. I loved the stories, but the profanity made me cringe. The book has a few editing errors that can be rectified. Overall there's a story for every reader. I would recommend it to readers intrigued by real life and real people. Someone who likes to people-watch the crazy stuff people do.

R.C. writes with a good sense of laid-back humor, compassion and a dose of fear here and there about his great job as a rideshare driver. It's a fast and enjoyable read.

Like in Shellie's Snack, Pt. 2 where she directs him to a drive thru to pick up a 20-piece chicken and four cheesburgers to bring to the party, he thought. "...All along, I was praying, please don't spill any crumbs or a drop of liquid in the car. I don't feel like cleaning today or any day, for that matter. She hadn't stopped eating since I'd handed her the large fast food bag. Don't get me wrong, I like to eat, but holy shit. This was impressive...) But then has second thoughts. "Or was it maybe deep dark childhood moments or one truly horrible experience in life which had led her to sometimes just gorging herself?"

Put me in the Q to Boston.

Q: Snippets from a Rideshare Driver will make you see and understand people and their emotions from the perspective of a rideshare driver. When I first read the summary, I was automatically interested in what this book could be and it proved itself to be worthy in a lot of ways. The stories of all the different people, while raunchy, were also filled with heart. It made me laugh out loud a lot of the time, even though at times I did feel there was too much vulgarity for my taste. Although I myself have never had any sort of driving job, I could place myself in the position of C.D. Howell. His voice is authentic and confident, and I could envision him telling these stories with a mighty chuckle. I like that I was able to get familiar the main character, and that through his character, I learned about other people and who they are as well.

I do like this book a lot. R.C. Otovic’s writing is great; I do enjoy his quick wit. The narrative flows nicely even with short, choppy sentences. He seems to have his own style going on that he knows how to work with very well. The plot is different and exciting; the perspective of the narrator offers an engaging and fresh experience. The narrator’s voice is my favorite part of this novel; when reading it feels like you are chatting with an old friend. There are grammatical errors which did turn me off a bit. They can be easily fixed with a little bit of tune up. However, if you do not notice grammatical errors as much as I do, I’m sure you’ll love this book all the same. I suggest this book to anyone who is looking for a good laugh and wants to read a short, quick novel. This book teaches you that people may be different on the outside than they are on the inside.
