Thomas awakes from surgery after a brutal stabbing leaves him nearly dead. He finds himself a helpless prisoner, awaiting trial for murder. Until the full moon comes. Until he changes for the first time... When he shifts, Thomas doesn't have control. As he commits savage act after savage act, of murder and dismemberment, his nerves shatter. Now on the run, he seeks solace with a pack of his own kind, but his presence throws the pack dynamic into chaos. As all hell breaks loose around him, Thomas tries to flee from his horrible past. Unable to tell who is friend, and who is foe, he enters a fight for his very survival. Gory, fast-paced, page-turning horror from the author of Gravel Switch, The Beast Returns is the second novella in The Beast series. Werewolf horror with fangs!
I love werewolf stories. I don’t like the kind of books where the werewolves are lovesick and harmless. I like my werewolves bloodthirsty and violent! And out of their minds. Not rational or reasonable. Aleister Davidson’s werewolf series is close to my favorite kind of werewolf book. Amazon has tens of thousands of werewolf books, but most of those are romantic stories. Yuck!
Just finished books 1 and 2 back to back. Fixing to buy book 3 now. I usually don't bother with the small novellas, but I sure am glad I did today. Stories don't come any better than these!
Book two finds Thomas in jail waiting trial for murder. He shifts goes on a killing spree and is rescued by his uncle who is the pack Alfa. Thomas soon finds he has a lot to learn about werewolves.
What in god's name happened to this story? The first book was an absolute blast and it was heading on the right path, I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Very disappointing.
Don’t get me wrong, it started well, especially when the Pack got involved, and it’s just as fast paced and an overall engaging writing style, but when it started with the teenage bullshit, I just couldn’t. Are guys really that stupid at that age? Because it’s almost unbelievable. Must be a cultural thing, this naivety and stupidity. It was infuriating to read about Thomas. This certainly gives me a YA book vibe.
Again, maybe it's a cultural thing, so I won’t even get started on the sexualized teenage girl, how she was described and dressed in a house where she lived with just her father. It was truly disturbing, maybe because that sort of attitude is not normal in Europe, especially balkan areas. Coming from someone who embraces concepts like kinky and depraved as barely scratching the surface of my own inclinations, I assure you I'm far from a prude; there's simply a time and place for everything.
