The Kurtherian Gambit: Books 1-7

Rate this book
What you thought you knew about Vampires and Werewolves is wrong...so very, very, wrong.

This digital box set contains the first seven books, the complete first arc of the best-selling Kurtherian Gambit series from Michael Anderle.

Death Becomes Her

A thousand years of effort to keep the UnknownWorld hidden is unraveling and the Patriarch is tired.  He needs to find someone to take over.

He finds Bethany Anne.

Unknown, untested and untried she sets out to accomplish the impossible while forging a new future.  One that no one knew was in danger.

And she does it with an attitude that will make you stand up and cheer!

They say a dress can make a woman, but in this case, the dress is Death, and Death Becomes Her very well indeed.

Queen Bitch

The UnknownWorld is reeling from change.

Bethany Anne has started to make a difference in the first week of being 'awake'. Now, America has been losing good men since their teams don't have a Vampire to help them and Frank is hoping Bethany Anne can, and will, help.

Further, the American Pack Council is having internal problems with their own "young and dumb" Were's who want to ignore Michael's strictures.

With no one seeing Michael, the fear of the 'Boogeyman' is starting to recede.

Love Lost

When one of Bethany Anne's loved one gets caught in the crossfire between her and the Forsaken, she goes rabid in rage. She doesn't believe in seeking peace and harmony, but rather revenge and mayhem.

Continuing the story of Bethany Anne and TQB team, Love Lost picks up after Queen Bitch. She works to complete both her business and military team leads and we meet Stephen's daughter Gabrielle as plans are made to exact revenge South of the Border.

You don't touch one of Bethany Anne's loved ones and get away with it, no matter how far away you live.

Bite This

You take out one annoying vampire in revenge, and now you have to clean up the mess? What a pain in the ... something.

Bethany Anne and crew are back! They need to grab a ship, figure out who is trying to dig into her businesses, get their hands around the potential for creating an A.I. and the ongoing mess with Anton and South America.

One of these days, she will get a break. Fortunately for us, it wasn't today.

Never Forsaken

Life is beyond dangerous when you are caught up in the ongoing war between Bethany Anne's group and the Forsaken.

Both Vampires and Humans have been targeted, but if there is one thing that those who work with Bethany Anne learn, it is you are NEVER FORSAKEN.

Under My Heel

Europe is erupting is tension and violence.

David is only adding to the conflagration by setting a trap, one that our team will trip to save those people still alive.

4.5* good funny action filled book w/ a new spin on vamps!! 18+

I overall love the series so far!! I might need to create a notepad just to not down all of BAs creative language for future usage!! I'm not one for correct use it punctuation marks so I didn't really notice the errors that others mentioned (or I have an edited and corrected edition) not that I give 2 figs either way!! I like the introduction of characters and some back history on them to give them more feel!! I like the set-up of different characters and that the author doesn't feel the need to have her in every single scene, which allows us as readers to get to know supporting characters, and she has alone time which go as us the chance to see her inner reasoning and thought process. Love Ashur!! I gave it 4.5/5* because of the double standard she sets (of which I'm about to half do myself...sue me!!) When she was human and had no control over her looks/shape she had every right to be all up on people who judged or treated her a certain way because of that, but when she underwent her change it became a bit heavy handed and enforced by too many (especially when she could have changed it, or not said/done things to make more obvious *bra*!) considering she can handle herself Very Well!! But she felt it was ok to be in everyone's sex life and call people s!-+$ and whatnot or the men beefcakes and man meat, but no one could say she looked sexy or caused them to have certain very human thoughts/reactions??? She also got mad a Stephan for saying something or the other in her benefit, Yet it's ok for the human guards to say things along the same lines?? And for her sometimes cavalier attitude towards TOM/ADAM given who and what they are and what they can do, when they mention they need to speak to you or are doing something towards potential enemies she needs to pay Better attention (which is why I'm not always a fan of foreshadowing [both good or bad] as it either takes away some of the drama/intensity of a scene or adds unnecessarily to it)! This book is not for the faint of heart when it comes to foul language or death, so be warned!!

I really enjoy your stuff

Thank you for going clean on this series. I don't mind some descriptive sex scenes I may be old(78)
But I'm not dead, but truthfully It's usually not necessary. That said I love this series! I'm trying to
Figure out the exact order in which to read every thing. This series makes me feel young again, I'm
Right there involved in every scene . I've started reading your other books and your co authors books.
I must say good work all of you! I've always read these kind of books, since maybe 8 yr's old. What I
Could find. not much back then, all the greats didn't have females in their stories it's as if we didn't exist. So I didn't read much of them. I got tired of being left out. As always some female authors started to get it. I was in my teens before I found stories I could relate to. I wish you and many of
Your friends were there then I really enjoy your varied people. Oh I really hated that David, and love Bethany Anne my hero.

Certainly not Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

Ok, well after some reviewing from other readers I thought I would take the chance with this new author and genre. Purchasing seven books for 99 cents seemed a worthwhile adventure to see what others were reviewing and in all honesty what a truly fantastic ride it has been.
Lead character Bethany Anne is certainly one great strong female character and exhibits one of the most 'potty' mouths I have ever experienced in a book. But what I enjoy about this series to date is the creative idea of how vampires and werewolves really evolved. More fascinating is the idea of how they unite so many to saving the planet.
In all honesty wished I kept a note on all the characters because that was one area I kept getting lost on, but that's only because I was on such a ride to keep reading that I was simply enjoying the storyline so much that I would simply identity characters as good or bad. Fully knowing that the baddies would met their just dessert at the hands of some almighty amazing characters.

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)

2.5*

Rating / info if for books 1-21
I read them back to back.

Be aware of:

[1] Mulitple POVs

[2] Lots of characters (only an 'issue' for me because of 6)

[3] Swearing --- if you do not like people cussing, this is not the series for you. -- I personally thought it was overdone, so I ended up just not 'voicing' it after 2 curses in a row at someone. It might just be a 'me thing' but I find a single well timed swear (or two at most) far more effective than a string of curses.

[4] Oddity that kept throwing me = shake his/her head for yes.... I realise its regional, but as an English person it kept throwing me out of the story! I'd never read / heard of 'shaking' ones head to mean yes, only ever a shake is no and a nod is yes. So completely sending 'mixed signals' to me as a reader.

[5] I'd say 'needs better proof readers' but the series is a decade old and I've read 'newer' books by him and he got better proof readers. -- But be aware this series has issues.

[6] Author using the same given name for different characters, in the same book. This happened from the first to almost the last book. ---- I have a common name so I get it that duplication happens in real life, but in fiction please don't do that because its annoying!

[7] Some of the timeline seems out of order within books. ---- Something would happen and then we'd go to another character or two for their stuff and then go back to the 'first' person and it's 'next day' but all that happened before with the other people would take longer than the few hours to be 'next day!'.

[8] Occasional scenes set in the far (?) future. -- I skipped these after the first, IMHO they're not needed.

[9] Missing plot because it was in a spin off series (4? of them)! --- This got annoying because I'd be stopping going 'when did that happen' and doing a search in case I was being dense and not recalling something happening.
I would recommend reading this series, with the others in the timeline order on the author's site.

First time read the author's work?: No --- Although its the first I've read by him (or others) in this universe.

Will you be reading more?: Probably

Would you recommend?: Possibly, with the above, warnings!

------------
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author)
4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author).
3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series)
or
3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)

All of the above scores means I would recommend them!
-
2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.)
1* = Disliked

Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)

QUEEN BITCH FOREVER!

Although this is his first writing effort (and what an effort!), I have read several of Michael Anderle's books/series. Honestly, this series is the best of the bunch.
I'm not a big fan of military books because I just don't enjoy the lengthy discussions of various manuvers, armament, and so on. These books manage the manuver, etc., discussions, interspersed with quips from the warriors, such that anyone can understand them and can skim over anything that gets too much.
The same thing can be said about computers. While I used to have a fairly good understanding of computers, they have moved so far beyond what I knew that I have trouble getting my current laptop to work. Anderle managed to hit the sweet spot between barely mentioning computers (which would have ignored a great deal of the plot, as it turned out) and going into such detail that only total geeks would understand what was going on and the rest of us would have tried to read the text with our eyes increasingly glazing over. Needless to say, when we are trying to read text that puts us to sleep, we usually put the book down, do something else, and never pick it up again.
You won't have that problem here. Whether you read the books one at a time or as an omnibus like this, you will find yourself enthralled, reading one after the other, until you reach the end. I confess, I don't remember the titles of each book (although they are included at the beginning of each book in the omnibus); I just read straight through the entire group of seven books without pause, except to eat and sleep. I plan to tackle the next omnibus (books eight through fourteen) the same way.
I stopped here to leave a review because I thought the book(s) deserved this. I suspect a lot of people are suspicious of omnibus editions in general (were the individual books such bad performers that they were thrown together in hopes of better sales? or maybe buyers wouldn't recognize the original titles?). Untrue here, entirely, but maybe this review will ease the minds of readers who are still unsure, despite the Anderle name.
I would recommend this omnibus (or these individual books) to fans of science fiction, horror, fantasy, AI fiction (you know who you are), political fiction (barely), and space operas. As for age, I wouldn't have a clue. I guess if you're old enough to read, maybe give it a try. If not now, then maybe a few years from now. Give it a try every five to ten years until you have matured enough to appreciate it. Personally, if I'm still alive (I'm 72), I plan to revisit these books every few years. I have a feeling there's more here than I caught the first time around.
Anyway, good reading! I'm on to the next omnibus.

Soooo Good!!

Michael Anderle, can I please peek inside your brain, because oh my goodness, these books are so brilliantly good! I would just like to see how you imagination and thinking process work to come out with characters and plots in the Kutherian Gambit series.
I actually read books 1 to 6 over 7 hours and would have finished book 7, however it was 3am in the morning and decided a couple of hours sleep and I would be good to go again.
7am I was back up and finished book 7.
The first book starts slowly and builds the characters and sets the tone, loved it! Then the reader scrambles to keep pace with the action, twists and turns and the complexity of the characters. There are many moments that had me in laughter and sometimes took a few minutes to get back under control to continue reading. Loving the author notes at the end.
Absolutely brilliant, you have made my top ten with this series and I can’t wait to read more!

A fun "bubble gum" read for lovers of sci-fi/fantasy adventure. It will not challenge your intellect but it does kick ass and take names.

I'm torn between categorizing it as fantasy or science fiction so I've tagged it as both. It has the trappings of science but it's not even close to accurate.

What I liked: A fun read that delivers what you expect. The protagonist wins in the end and makes the world a better place. What could be great visuals in an action movie. An entirely new take on vampires.

What I disliked: At no point in the books did I feel the protagonist was in danger of losing. The conflicts were more like a check box on a plan than a victory. I could not discern a theme. The antagonists were cardboard evil and not well fleshed out. Too many characters. Few characters had any depth.

The Queen Bitch rocks!

I've read this entire series multiple times and each time I reread it it just gets better. This boxed set made it very easy to relive the beginning of Bethany Anne's adventures. I heartily recommend it if you're looking to do the same. And, of course, it's an especially great way to start reading the Queen Bitches adventures if you haven't had that pleasure.
Excellent character's and character development. The plot of this series is also awesome. And somehow the plots just keep getting better with each new book in this seies. It's simply amazing. Do yourself a favor and read this boxed set. You'll be very glad you did!
I just hope that there's a boxed set 2 of this series start!

I was led to these books about TQB by a reply to a post I made about naming my throwing knives the b#tches....best find ever!!!

I was led her by a friends comment, and I found my self enthralled after book one. My luv of the characters, their progression from their infancy to adulthood (not literally), made my day. I luv a good thriller, a good fantasy, and some pride in the choice to do right for everyone without a bunch of politicians money and power controlling it. As a dying woman, Bethany is given the chance to not only to be healed, but to continue to fight for honor, integrity, and or protect humanity's finest qualities. It's very fulfilling to watch as Bethany evolves and grows to fulfill the title of TQB. Who said being a vampire was evil???

I got the collection of books 1-7 and haven't finished them yet. I'm through book 2 and just had to post a review.

I don't consider myself a reader of Vampire and Werewolve's books but some of the reviews for this book peaked my interest.
First, throw out the old legends of of these groups.
We follow our lead character through her adventure trying to understand what she has become involved in.
The reader, of course. is in the dark with her.
Slow but sure the pieces of the puzzle are starting to form as she understands the actual world.
Again, I repeat, the old rules do not apply.
I rated it 5 stars because, a book that can make me want to get back to it as soon as possible is at least that rating!

BA is One Bad Bitch......Queen Bitch that is!

Giving Michael a solid 4. I found this box set after reading many of the other books he has written himself, coauthored, or supports through his many endeavors. I will be grabbing the next of this series asap.
I love the snark, attitude and wit of all the characters, I enjoyed how even Ashur had found his own snark and voice by the end of book 7. Lol
The action is packed in as well, with just enough details to keep me in the technical loop.
I'm not one to write spoilers so you will just have to take my word for it and grab this one for your own reading pleasure.

While I am note science fiction fan, I decided to read this series anyway because there is a whole Kurthurian universe out there with books to read. These books are the birth of this universe, so I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I'm glad I did. Even though the true science fiction stuff rather bored me, I enjoyed all the characters and the story line so far. I will say there are a ton of characters and it took me a bit of time to get them all sorted out. The chapters are set at basically the same time, but the locations and characters change. This was confusing me at first but after book 2 or 3 I mostly figured it out. Off to books 8-14.

Absolutely superb.

I rarely am riveted by vampire stories but I can not rave enough about this very clever interpretation of the “other species”. I read all 7 books in sequence never once losing interest. I did have some trouble with the screen changes so frequently but that did not continue to be an issue the more I read. I so enjoyed the banter among the various individuals From pilot to general, etc. I also appreciated the scientific details. I did not particularly like the foul language of the books but at least it did fit with the story. I will be seeking more by this author. Thank you for a wonderful reading experience.

Second time through and still an awesome read

When I saw the boxed set I grabbed it immediately. All seven of the first books in one place. What a deal. As I have reread them it is like sitting down and visiting with old friends. It’s been a couple of years since the first read and sooooo much has happened since. Like 15 more books in the main storyline and well over 100 in the spinoffs, plus two short story anthologies written by the fans that Michael Anderle was kind enough to publish.

If you haven’t read these they are well worth the time it takes. Just be warned, you are going to lose sleep. These are hard to put down once you get going.

Fantastic!

Thank you. These are fantastic books. I'm currently on #17. I'm a 47yr old and have been reading fantasy since about '84. I started with Dragonlance The Heroes of the Lance, and RA Salvador Drizzt and The Companions of the Hall. That matters because I found Michael Anderle with the Allison Brownstone books. Then James Brownstone,
S. Beaufont and now Kurtherian series. I'm in a wheelchair and have a lot of time to read and I just can't seem to put these books down. The characters are great! It's a fantasy wet dream with Aliens, Vampires, Werewolves, and dirty politicians. AND SCREWING OVER DIRTY POLITICIANS!!!

HOW COOL IS THAT!

TQB

This series gets off to a great start with book one, Death Becomes Her, where Bethany Anne Reynolds, a special operator with six months to live, becomes Bethany Anne, no last name, with eternity in front of her. But Michael, the vampire Patriarch who initiated her change, has disappeared, forcing Bethany Anne to learn her role on the fly. And, fortunately for our world, she learns quickly.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this first set of books in the series, though technical side made my eyes glaze over a time or two. And I appreciate that the series is available in the KU library so I can move straight on to the second boxed set. It's a win.

Werewolves, Vampires and bear...oh my 🥰

These books were such a wonderful surprise to find. NOT your typical vampire book, is exactly right.
I don’t normally read books that jump between characters, as I find them difficult to follow because they impart so much. BUT...you wove them in beautifully and made them easy to follow.
I’d bought the first box set (last book read was kneel or die”) and I couldn’t read fast enough, wanting to turn the pages faster than I could read them 😳😴
You’ve combined a few of my favourite genres and I am looking forward to catching up to date with the series.
😍 absolutely, wonderfully woven. Thank you.

Good story as promised

I have read most of the Kurtherian gambit books and now I'm reading them again. Many of them were purchased for ninety nine cents. The rest I've read through Kindle Unlimited. I truly appreciate the boxed sets being included in the sale when they're first released. I've also read most of the books that are written by Michael Anderle and his co-authors. I pay little attention to the grammar errors and the cursing. I'm more interested in the story lines and I enjoy the idea of the bad guys getting their punishment for the atrocities they commit. I'm a big fan of the authors and the whole series.

This fantastic series started my addition to Michael’s writing and LMBPN!!!!!

Congratulations to Michael Anderle for this amazing series. This is, I think, the fifth time I’m reading this complete series. All of the Kutherian Sagas are exceptionally entertaining and enjoyable. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. An major plus is that Michael has attracted so many great authors to produce all the other parts of the complete Kutherian Saga.

Well I know this is your first series.

It's amazing by the way. I found you and all the other authors of lmbpn all amazing. But I found you from the 99c boxed sets. Then buying every boxed set and some books I saw. I have so many books lined up. I have a hard time sleeping my adhd and these books pass time so quickly as I get wrapped up in the characters. Under my Heel chapter 1 brought me to tears. To help with your analytics I bought the next 2 boxed sets on this series on sale. Signed up for a month of unlimited for the Warrior 2 books 1 and 2 and this boxed set. Please keep writing and I will keep enjoying. Damn you write fast and well.

definitely not what I expected

I had read a few of Michael’s collaborations and wanted to pick up some of his solo work to get a feel for how the collaboration work was divided. I saw this box set on KU and thought, “cool”. I started reading and it pretty quickly jumped into vampires and thought, “oh, no, not another vampire saga…” and nearly tossed it aside. I’m glad I didn’t and persevered with the story. I quickly became engaged and found it difficult to put it down. I was also happy to see Michael continue the character development unlike some authors who let their characters become 2 dimensional over time. Good job!!

Engrossing space opera, or is it were opera?

This 7 book series has kept me up way too late several nights in a row. I enjoy the escapist, the interweaving story lines and the absence of the author pontificating about the heroine that "TRUE LITERATURE" that usually notes me silly. These books are fast moving and address some interesting technology questions that truly place this in the hard science fiction, while having fun with vamps and were's. I have really enjoyed the series so far and am about to get the next series. Two thumbs up.

Accidental fan!

I stumbled upon the Kutherian Gambit quite by accident, and almost bypassed it until I realized Michael Anderle was the author. How could I possibly go wrong with his writing? Right?! Now a few sleepless nights later I realize my problem...not enough time to read! Wow! What a ride? I am enamored with BA, and having just finished the first 7 books I can’t wait to sign up for the rest. I want to live in this world, so thank you so much for making it possible for the next few sleepless nights at least :)

Doesn't let go

Seven good books. My only problem with them was the sheer quantity of swearing which irritated and sometimes offended me. I did stop reading this box set midway to read another book, but was impelled to return because these books are good and I wanted to know what happened next. Ashur the dog is probably my favourite character and more on him would be great. Also TOM and Adam. Despite the language used by Bethany Anne I'm going to look for the next book.

never had more fun with fangs and fur-boxed set

i must say i've never had more fun with a sassy set of fangs and a bunch of fur. Bethany is all and more than i could have ever wanted in character. what a life she has been given by a man who has been living millennia. and the posse she collects because of who she chooses to be and what she chooses to believe in are hilarious and scary.

Sci-fi and fantasy combine in an amazing work with vampires, aliens, where wolves and more. I have read the first 7 in series non stop in the last three days, hell when I try to sleep I just run over everything in my mind. READ THIS!

Amazing Series!

It is a good thing for me that this series is expanding as are others in the same "universe" because these 7 books took me all of 4 days to read. Be warned if you have real life responsibilities that these are hard to put down. Even after finishing a book at 2am it didn't occur to me to pause for sleep before jumping into the next one.
If you enjoy a fun read these are the books for you!

Decent idea, poor writing

I like the idea behind the vampires and weres in this series. The writing, however, is poor. Additionally, I found some parts of the storyline to be a bit offputting, most especially the treatment of terrorists aka muslims by this writer. I also disliked the way the characters seem to revel in being as violent/destructive as possible while being self-righteous about “saving the world”. Just... not a favorite.

Give me more!!!

This world is in jeopardy by aliens and now it has a kick ass female to save it. She and her trusty sidekicks are delving into the secrets of an alien race while cleaning up the unknown and known world dark ranks. Humor, action, adventure and of course supernatural activities made this one kick ass series so far! I have found a new author and i cant wait to read more!

Found it!

I love these books, but it seems I finally found them and read in the wrong order. They are all fast paced and the characters very different but with the same goals, love the fact the main characters are strong women. I would recommend these books to anyone who likes to read till their eyes hurt but still cannot put the book down. Thank you very much for keeping me entertained for so many hours. Keep writing please.
