A Miners to Millionaires Spin-off Series! Abby Winthrop knows what life-altering love is like-and how it can destroy you. Now, all her dreams hang on the new women arriving in Promise Creek, hoping they'll become like sisters to her. But when he lays eyes on Abby again, plans change. She isn't just a woman he once desired, but the only woman who has ever touched his heart. Determined to win her back, he proposes a friendship between them. But when Abby is attacked, his protective instincts rise. He loves her still, but can Abby forgive him for past mistakes…or will history repeat itself?
Got this one for free and it was a nice read. Short and sweetish.
Abby and Lucas were in love 8 years ago when she was 18. Her father didn't approve as he was poor but she was willing to work around that. Lucas however, was not. He left to make his fortune, never looking back. It's a safe read
Abby and her brother have moved out west and she helps women migrate to the 'women dry' area from out East. She took years to recover from Lucas' defection.
When she goes to the station to meet the next group of women arriving, she is stunned to see Lucas. He however, knew she would be there and was unsure what to think about it. They both remember the love but it's been so long they are unsure whether it would still be there or if it ever was. I found this a little hard to stomach. I mean I certainly remember my first love and would never doubt that it was love. Anyways, their fall back into love is swift (over a week or so) and the story is a nice smooth read. I thought Lucas did a nice job groveling and there's a sweet little epilogue at the end. My only complaint is that I wish Abby had been more angry when they met again. She was a bit of a pushover. Not that Lucas tries to strong-arm her. In fact he is very careful to make sure she has all the power this time 'round. I really appreciated that!
Lucas and Abby were past sweethearts, she was born a rich girl and he was just a poor guy. He leaves her thinking that she can do better. She runway and years later he steps off a train an she learns he is a copper king who has made his fortunes but he doesn’t know she is not as rich as he thought.
Personally I felt this book is definitely not finished yes you get the ending of Lucas and Abby. You meet so many women but don’t get their story in this book. There is no adult content, and for the most part everyone seems nice in the story.
Nothing redeeming about this book. The characters are sketches and the timeline isn't researched. The author keeps on introducing modern concepts as "new" ideas but there were things in place that figured out the solutions women faced in the West. If you like modern equality, such as it is, write a modern romance. But don't think female secretaries were a thing or that single women were allowed to run establishments by themselves because women had to fight for the right of employment.
It's a good story. Straight forward. Sweet and clean. I'd read more of these. A spoiler alert. Wasn't satisfied that they never explained what happened to the letter.
In this story set in the old Prairie days a young woman Abby is waiting to greet a group of other young women who are arriving in the town to live. They will be accompanied by a Copper King, the name given to men who have made their fortune off the Copper mines nearby. What Abby doesn't expect is for the man to be someone she already knows, someone from her past that she thought she'd left there. When Abby sees Lucas again feelings are stirred once more. But she is afraid of being hurt again. Can Lucas convince her that he's changed?
I don't read a lot of historical romance set in this time period but it was a free short read so I thought I'd check it out. The setting and writing is enough to hold my interest. The story itself moves at more of a slow burn so we don't have a lot happening in terms of development, which is a shame as there could have been more backstory on some of the characters. But it's not a bad read at all. For me it's a solid good read.
There were a few elements of the plot which confused me, such as I'm not sure why men who got rich off a mine would want to bring young women to the town for no reason other than to have them live there, but overlooking that, the book itself was OK.
It is a clean romance and the first in a series so if you're interested in this sort of book then the first one being free on amazon might be a good choice for you. This is the first time I've read a book by this author and I probably will try something else by her at another time.
A second chance story that worked. You can't help rooting for these two main characters, Lucas and Abby. Once in "young" love, their parting was heart breaking for both of them, but they seemed to have moved on. Lucas in now a mining millionaire and Abby has reestablished herself in a mining town. Lucas shows up with a group of women that he and his partners are importing into the town where their mines are opening. They hope the women will settle in and create an atmosphere they encourages folks to move there and settle in. But the story isn't so much about the women as it is about Lucas and Abby reconnecting. They separated eight years before and Lucas believed he was "doing right" by Abby, as she was wealthy and he was not. He leaves her without much of an explanation and sets out to somehow make his fortune. Now he is back in her life and wants to keep her there permanently. Can Abby forgive him and can he win her back? This story is a good beginning to this series and I will look forward to reading the stories of some of the women that have followed their dreams and "gone West." A easy and enjoyable read.
I would give the book a 3.8. It would easily have been a 4 or a bit higher if the book had known closer editing. I thought the characterization of Abby Winthrop and Lucas McDermott was spot on. Their continued desire, but wariness, was appropriate for the tale. I would consider reading other books in this series. Now, let's address some of the typos I noted: Abby fell the ache in her heart. ("felt") Emery stopped glanced over their shoulders. (Emery would look over "her" "shoulder." dragging him with. (The sentence ends abruptly.) You hadn't heard or seen from Mr.... ("haven't) to ever fill ("feel") Etc. There are numerous split infinitives: to quickly welcome, to not hear, to ever fill, to not be, to properly consider, to never be, to not know, etc. Also, "each other" indicates two people. "One another" is for 3 or more. Therefore, "care for one another" is wrong, as is "spending time with one another."
Wow thank you so much Janelle another fabulous story I couldn't put down Lucas was so lucky he got a second chance with Abby. I especially loved the new ladies characters and can't wait to read more of them in the next books. Lucas and Abby have both changed since they met all them years ago and I think it is portrayed well in the story Janelle has a knack of creating such wonderful characters that we all can relate too and so brings all her stories alive with emotions that you feel while reading her books I look forward to this series and know we readers are in for a treat as this series developed.
If you loved the entire Miners to Millionaires series, then you'll be enamored with the Copper Kings! Western Bride features Abby Winthrop (who you're introduced to in A Mail-Order Destiny), as she encounters a beau from her past, that still claims a piece of her heart. Lucas McDermott is stunned to come across Abby again, and won't make the same mistake of letting her go again. I enjoyed this book so much, and loved still having glimpses into the characters I've come to love in the previous books. I can't wait to see what else lies in store for the Copper Kings and have no doubt that this will be another must-read series from Janelle Daniels!
"Western Bride" is a well-written, lovely romance. What an entertaining book! I love western romances and this one was a joy to read. Abby is an interesting character who made me want to cheer for her most of the time. There were a few moments when I wondered what she was thinking, too. Mr. McDermott was so very patient and reminded me of my own husband. The wording of the story was simply beautiful involving lots of clever description. I really felt like I could step into the world the author painted. If you enjoy historical romance, western romance, or sweet romance, why not give this one a try?
A rags to riches historical romance. Abby ran away to Promise Creek and her life began to change. She awaits a group of ladies coming to live in Promise creek to help build the town. The women come in on the train because there are 3 times the amount of miners as their are women in Promise Creek. These ladies come to take jobs and potentially marry miners. Some of the ladies essentially coming from nothing and have the potential to marry rich miners. You'll fall in love with the close knit community of Promise Creek and the characters.
Western Bride tells of the second chance romance of Abby Winthrop and Lucas McDermott after eight years of being apart. The romance started in their teens, when he worked for her wealthy father and felt unworthy of Abby, as she grew up in the upper part of Manhattan society.
They meet again when he comes to Promise Creek as one of the 'Copper Kings' that have acquired a large copper mine close to town. Trust, forgiveness and communication takes time to rebuild and Lucas shows Abby he can give her all and more his commitment with a happy ending for them both.
This is a hard to put down book. Lucas and Abby were teenage sweethearts. Abby's family were wealthy, but Lucas was raised in poverty. Lucas knew he couldn't offer Abby the life she was accustomed to so he left with no explanation. Eight years had passed when their paths unexpectedly crossed. The past flame was still there, but Abby cannot allow herself to be hurt again. But things had began to change then he left again, unannounced. Her life was absolutely crushed.... again!
We’re back in Promise Creek for this spinoff series of the Miners to Millionaires series. Lucas has left Abby 8 years ago, he would never be good enough for her. Now he’s made his fortune and they meet again. Can they be just friend or can they build further on their connection from years ago? I really loved this story, can’t wait to read the rest what is coming. I recommend all the American historical books of this author.
This is a delightful gem of a book. I devoured it in one sitting. What I love most are the characters, who are so real that we could visit for coffee. It’s well-written with a good storyline. It’s the first in a series and I’ve already purchased the next book.
If you’re looking for a western romance set in a small mining town, I recommend this to you. I believe you’ll enjoy it.
Another great story by Janelle Daniels. Janelle takes us back to Promise Creek with more bachelors and ladies trying to make it out west. Her stories are filled with drama, laughter and as always a happy ending. You can't wrong with reading this story and I can't wait to see what in store for the rest of the ladies.
Young love can hurt and leave scars for a lifetime. When Abby and Lucas are again thrown together , by chance, they are not to hopeful for repairing their hurtful past. Will their future be together or will they find others? This is a very enjoyable and interesting read. I enjoyed reading it I hope you do too.
I loved this story so much! Abby and Lucas we’re separated and brought back together years later. Abby struggles to navigate her feelings, trying to decide if they are simply feelings from the past, or if she has fallen in love with Lucas once more. A great western romance.
Western Bride; A Miners to Millionaires Story ( Copper Kings book 1) by Janelle Daniels
If you love cowboys and how they love their women, you will love Janelle Daniels Copper King series. I love how even after 8 long years, that these 2 still love one another. You will have to read the book to find out their names. Thank you, Janelle Daniels.
I was disappointed when the previous series about Promise Creek finished, but this Copper Kings spin off is just as good! With some of my old favorite characters, it seems like a letter from home! Loved the story! Loved how it is something new and not just a recycled version of the previous series! Great read!
This book was filled with real emotion. The story grabs the reader and Janelle Daniel's leads us down the paths of Abby's and Lucas' reuniting and ridding themselves of the old misconceptions they had when they were younger. It is about maturing and having faith in each other and daring to put their feelings on the line - taking chances. Loved it.
Clean, western romance. This is a short story and a quick vacation read that is very enjoyable. The H and h are former sweethearts who broke up because of their different stations in life. However, time and circumstances cause their paths to cross again and the H will do whatever it takes to win her back.
Recovering from heartbreak caused for the person you love.
Abby difficult task of healing her heartbreak, caused by Lucas decision to leave because he thought wasn’t worthy for her love. Abby have change her life and go far away to finding herself face to face with Lucas after several years apart and trying torecuperate her trust on him. Love it,,
Rating=3-, I think Ms. Daniels is a good writer but for some reason her stories are just okay for me. In this book I didn't like Lucas plus I didn't like missing out on their past relationship. I don't like a hero who breaks the heart of the women he loves, deserts her, never checks on her in the following years. IMO he can never redeem himself, ruins the story for me.
Short story. Not much happened. I would have liked to have seen the two main characters get to know each other again, considering it'd been many years since they'd seen each other and likely they were teenagers when they had known each other. Could have been better, but was an okay read. A clean romance.
Author, Janelle Daniels has done a wonderful job in transition ing into this spin-off series of Miners to Millionaries. Great characters! Loved Abby and Lucas' story. Can't wait for the next book!
History and heartstrings. Helping women find their path and seeking family and home are the theme that includes jealousy and fears and people seeking a place to belong where the hearts desires are. Great story.
