Great book.

The Legacy Fleet Series hooked me with number one in the series, But... the author needs a new proofreader. There were so many gramatical errors in the last book that I was ready for it to be over. The other books had errors but not nearly as many as the last one. Typos on almost every page and it made me lose interest in the story. Also, there were different ages for when Ballsy left his son.

The sixth, and maybe the best in the series. Fast-paced action with mind-numbing twists and turns. This is science fiction at its best.

Talk about saving the best for last, going out with (mostly) a bang, and almost, ALMOST being the first book of the series to get a 5th star because of it. Almost. But nope. One star deduction for a reason I'll state later. Note: Lengthy review to follow, as this is the last book of the series and thus merits a bit of wordiness on my part.

This was without a doubt one fine conclusion to the series and ended up being my favorite of them all. It had the proper tone of finality to it that one would expect when you reach the end of something massive, if this ends up being the true end anyway. Because it does seem like it can go on forever actually. At any rate, stakes are extremely high and, even though those pesky Swarm critters keep refusing to die (which feels repetitious, but hey...that's the plot, so whatever), I liked the overall comradery of the various characters we've gotten to know warring for victory at last. And now, we even get to SEE those dang Swarm cockroaches. There's still a lot of chaos happening like in the previous books (how anyone has the time to eat, bathe, sleep, or even pee is beyond me, which is probably why they never seem to do it lol). But whether it's because I'm accustomed to this constant, nonstop action or because things were better arranged by the author, I didn't feel lost and overwhelmed as much as I used to. The action was fun to read and I'm quite amazed with the author's imagination of scenes and characters, particularly the variety of aliens and their manner of life and existence.

Further, I am very glad to finally get some fun character interactions between those who have tangible relationships this time around. The unbreakable friendships is one thing, but I particularly loved the squabbles and talks between father and son, Volz and a Zivic. It finally gave me some bit of "reality" as a reader, folks who have experienced troubles that maybe us normal readers who are outside the fiction of this world can relate to. And since I couldn't frickin' get a little fleshed out romance between literally ANYONE in this story even when it would have been justified, (and the folks who DID have that sort of relationship develop are conveniently shoved in the background), I ended up settling for the other relationships. They fortunately sufficed for what I needed. It ain't like this story was in dire need of someone having a love life, but I just feel it would have made some character motivations a lot more compelling. It would have grounded me a bit better, since the momentum of these stories sways just alllll over the place, so it's nice to have something to gravitate towards and cling to. But...no matter.

Minor complaints here. I'm still not crazy about how it seems that even when spread out in the vastness of space, the characters still managed to be in the same scene not one or two pages later. And I'd be thinking, "Well wait, weren't they over THERE? How'd they get HERE?" Then I'd backtrack to see if I missed something, which usually was a fruitless mission. I just had to accept that it was just that easy for characters to get to each other without much fuss. I also felt like I had to forgive character ages and physical appearances, as they were never much factors in the story like I felt they SHOULD have been. Except maybe a running moment with Proctor, but that was pretty much it. The typos were still super evident everywhere, which makes me wonder if the author needs to do a little firing and find someone else. I get that typos happen; they happen to everyone. Hell, I probably got 'em even here. But some of the typos are downright obvious that I don't even know how they'd be missed.

Possible MILD SPOILER, but....the biggest crime committed that forced me to deduct a star was this: Though this book built up momentum, action, and even tragic sadness in an epic, conclusive sort of way that practically manhandled me into submitting to its tension, the final couple of chapters by comparison were MAJOR let-downs. It was, dare I say? Bad. Anti-climactic bad. It teetered into cop-out territory and felt like a freaking joke. It almost seemed like the author finally, FINALLY ran out of steam from all the chaos of the story, that once he reached what he was going for he just sort of....slapped it all together in a hurry just to get it over with. Seriously? It took 6 books that occur during the span of multiple decades to fight the Swarm and then when it comes to THAT point...it just sorta...fizzles out? Like THAT? Really? I felt so incredibly deflated from my initial puffed up excitement and curiosity. And that's an annoying feeling. So even though I totally still loved the book compared to the others, I couldn't fathom giving it a perfect 5-Star Rating.

I'm sure this series will continue. It certainly ended on a point where it could. And I'm sure I'll still join in to see where it goes since I'm in too deep already. But, I'll be giving it a big break and come back way later. More stories to read, after all.

In Part 6 of this Epic series, the impossible has happened, and Granger has returned, but even more amazing, he has brought with him Moons, transformed into powerful weapons, almost like Death Stars with Q-Jump capability – and there are 12 of them.
But he has returned because the Swarm have returned, not that they ever left.
Book #6 is really fascinating, in that we get not only the continuation of the main story of Shelby and the Crew trying to stop the Swarm, but there is this wonderful intrigue and political intrigue surrounding multiple other characters in the story, including the President and Vice President and factions of the Grangerites as well as the Leader of the GPC and the Military Leaders of the IDF. Just as intriguing are the various alien races, the Skiohra, Dolmasi, Valarisi, and even the other yet to be encountered races, the Findiri and Quiassi.
Webb has created this masterful story of intrigue and mystery, with multiple different storylines all interwoven into this compelling and thrilling adventure.
In this 6th book, everything has come to a head at Britannia, with the Swarm making an attack on the human world that is second in population only to Earth, with over 8 billion people. Ballsy and the Independence race to aid the fight, but Shelby is trying to find out what is happening on Titan, if Granger is really there or not.
Shelby gets some answers, but not all of them, before they have to make a desperate fight to save a planet, and this opening sequence of the book is outstanding, one of the best of the entire series, with an intense and brutal fight that sees the new “Granger Moons” facing off against the Swarms new terrifying Carrier ships.
Webb is a Master in creating these epic battle scenes that are reminiscent of the old Sci-Fi Movies like Return of the Jedi, in which there is this chaotic and desperate fight to the death to save something, in this case, Britannia, but the descriptive work of the starships, and starfighters blazing away at each other is truly remarkable.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but the rest of the story is just as incredible as the start, if not more so.
The other stunning part of this book is the Character work. Nick Webb has always been known as an outstanding character driven story Author, but as this series as progressed, he has only improved with each book, showing some extraordinary writing skills. The Character of Shelby Proctor is not only believable as the cantankerous old Admiral, a living legend, and to many, a religious icon, to others, just a figurehead, the person who once stood with the Man who defeated the greatest threat Humanity has ever faced. Although Tim Granger has been given the credit for defeating the Swarm all those years ago, it was Shelby Proctor who was there with him all the way, and there are many who understand that Granger would never have done what he did without her, that his victory was as much hers as it was his. And the fact she is the one still standing, dealing with the remaining Swarm threat, and the ongoing alien threat, makes her the true hero. As this story progresses and different enemies try to take out the Admiral, or commit other acts, it is fascinating watching the various crew all rising to stand with their Admiral, never wavering.
Webb has created this amazing character, and this mythology around her, and as you read the story, you actually find yourself as the reader, getting caught up in it, and this just shows how incredible Nick Webb is as a Character Author.
It is not just Proctor though, there is the ever lovable Ballsy, the quirky Rayna Scott, the Younger Ballsy – Zivic, and the crew of the independence, Qwerty, Whitehorse, Mumford. Then there are the additional characters from the Military and the different alien factions (( am not going to list characters so I don’t give anything away).
Each of these characters though has so much depth, Webb has given each of them so much detail, when you go from the Skiohra Matron Mothers, with their inner children, and the history there, and the background, which you could almost write another book on, and then to members of the Independence bridge crew (Qwerty’s back story is just hilarious), there is so much world building in each and everyone of the characters, and this just adds so much more to the story.
This has been an epic series, and in this final book, everything comes to a head, and Webb does a fantastic job of wrapping up ‘most’ of the storylines that have been opened up from the start of this new series, or remained open from the first series. I say most, as he has left some open as there is another series already, and it was obvious that there was another series coming when he wrote this (No complaints here!!)
I will give him major credit though for (No Spoilers) how he wrapped up this series, it was really well done.
One thing I will say about these books to, Webb is not afraid to kill off his main characters. There have been so many different characters that you have turned the page, and BAM they’re dead – and you actually have to go back and just re-read the page again, to make sure you read it right. But it is great to have an Author not afraid to kill off their main characters.
Overall, this has been an exceptional addition to what is still one of my favourite Sci-Fi Series of all time, from one of my favourite Sci-Fi Authors. This is an absolute must read (or listen), you won’t be disappointed!!

It’s been over a year since I last read a book in this series. I don’t know why I never got back to it other than it might have just been released. I don’t know, but I did read it last night and it’s a good continuation to a story that’s been going on for a long, long time.

The Earth is in a desperate struggle against the Swarm. Nothing really is known about the Swarm, just that they are terribly advanced and powerful. They first came to notice about 30 years ago which was known as the First Swarm War. Earth was pretty much devastated then and has taken all of the past 30 years to get well. Now the Swarm appears to be back.

The Swarm has or had the ability to take over different alien races and make them do their fighting. The Valarasi and Dolmasi were two such races and the Swarm control also included select humans. So, not only was the Earth fleet fighting against the Swarm, but also against two other alien races. There was a third race, the Skiohra who weren’t especially threatening, but they also weren’t very helpful. The First Swarm War was followed by a smaller episode still named the Second Swarm War when the Swarm suddenly showed up and then left.

In the first Swarm War, Captain Tim Granger was the hero of the day. He had the bad habit of taking wounded fleet starships and throwing them into the Swarm ships and then detonating the Earth starships Q-drive. This certainly destroyed the Swarm ship and of course, every sole on the Earth ship. Still Captain Granger managed to hold off the Swarm and he eventually devised and executed a plan to get rid of the Swarm from this universe. Only thing is, it required him to fly his starship into a black hole with all the Swarm following. It worked, but now the Swarm is back and so is Captain Tim Granger!

But, this Tim Granger isn’t the same fire-brand he was many years ago. He’s been through a lot and it has aged him greatly, not in body, but in mind. He has no idea of how to get rid of the Swarm this time. It’s up to Admiral Shelby Proctor to figure out a plan and get it executed in a very short time. The plan she comes up with actually belonged to a young Lieutenant star-fighter and it was definitely pretty harebrained. At first it was thrown out as impossible to do in the time they had, but when no one could come up with any other viable plans, a second look helped to flesh out some details to the Lieutenant’s plan. It could just work. This plan also involved a black hole, but it was hoped that no one would have to travel through it like Time Granger had done. This plan also required all three races, the Valarasi, Dolmasi, Skiohra, and Humans to work together against the Swarm. That alone was going to be a major problem.

This series has shifted from being about Captain Timothy Granger and his exploits to Admiral Shelby Proctor. Admiral Proctor once served under Captain Granger although she was a scientist rather than a starship tactician. But, she learned over the years and eventually became the Fleet Admiral and then shortly afterwards, retired to teach. Now with the Swarm back, she was quickly called back to active duty and she had her hands full. I don’t mind reading about Shelby Proctor since she was around when Tim Granger was doing his thing, but it’s kind of strange reading about Captain Granger when he was supposed to have died some thirty years ago. You’ll need to read the book to find out how he has survived all those years and how he can even be alive now. It’s kind of interesting although it’s more of a side feature of this story.

There doesn’t appear to be an end to Admiral Shelby Proctors story nor is the author done with Tim Granger. The end of this book does reference to more to come.

**Book Review: "Liberty" (The Legacy Fleet Series) by Nick Webb**

"Liberty," part of the exhilarating Legacy Fleet series by Nick Webb, is an action-packed adventure that firmly cements itself as a favorite among sci-fi enthusiasts. The series stands out for its thrilling plotlines and the rich character development that brings its universe to life.

In "Liberty," Webb delivers a masterful blend of high-stakes action and deeply relatable characters. The narrative is fast-paced, with each chapter propelling the story forward and leaving readers eager for more. The space battles and strategic maneuvers are described with such vivid detail that you feel like you're right there in the midst of the action.

One of the most compelling aspects of the book is the character development. Webb's characters are multifaceted and authentic, with personal struggles and growth that resonate on a profound level. Their journeys are as much about the battles they face in space as they are about their internal conflicts and triumphs. This depth adds a layer of relatability that makes the series a standout.

For fans of science fiction who crave an engaging plot and well-developed characters, "Liberty" and the entire Legacy Fleet series offer an unforgettable reading experience. It's a testament to Nick Webb's talent for creating a universe that feels both vast and intimately personal.

Happy reading! 📚🚀

A decent read rounding out 2nd trilogy.

It looks as if the author is planning to write more in this universe. That can be both a good and bad thing. While author has created an interesting universe with some good characters it sufferers from poorly formed antagonist in the second trilogy. This leads to an aimless feel where the story stutters along plot lines. While book 6 climax is action pack it feels rushed.

The main characters are well-written but with such a big caste for book 6 it did not pull me through. There was a few good moments of emotional payoff, but the scope.of the tragedies that occur are lost and fell flat to a point with hopping through the povs.

I do feel as if books 1 through 3 were much more solid and told a more complete Story in plot setting and characters. There was a lot of haphazard plot lines in books 3 through 6. Most annoying was the fact that in the 2nd Trilogy major plot lines in each book were heavily investiled in only to come out to be pointless and mute all for a twist that didn't work in any of the books it occurred in.

Overall the seires is appropriate for young adults and above. Again a decent one time read or rainy day seires.

Excellent Addition to Legacy Fleet Series

I try to never miss any new Nick Webb Book!
But, as an avid science fiction reader for 60+Years, it's not unusual for me to have read, 5-10 books, between each additional book released in his many epic series..! However, Nick Webb is a great story-teller, & he always includes just enough back-story, to remind his many avid fans of all the important characters, previous plot-lines, so readers are able to immerse themselves into every new book; quickly, smoothly, & without having to re-read an entire series to enjoy the latest addition, as if it were a stand-alone novel!

Is There Still Any Life in a This Franchise?

I was ready to say “no” to the question in the headline, but the last couple of chapters changed my mind. Although it took awhile, Webb brought a satisfactory conclusion to this story arc. We learned more about the central characters and the universe in which they live. Primary recommendation to Mr. Webb: you need an editor. The misuse of words, misspelling, and grammatical errors got worse as the book unfolded with at least 25 errors in the final 7 or 8 chapters. Why does it matter? Because it interrupts the story telling. Otherwise, a good tale.

Strongly recommend an actual proofreader!

While I enjoyed all six books of this series, I was forced dozens of times to re-read sentences because the words were either incorrect or of the wrong tense. None were misspelled and were all actual words, I suspect someone simply used spellchecker instead of actually reading and correcting the context or using the proper tense. I may or may not read future publications because of this. I realize this may seem like a small or petty reason but it interrupts the flow of the story and after so many occurrences becomes quite annoying.

Thank you,

Michael Smith

This is the 6th book. The original trilogy (1 thru 3) ended but later on the author decided to write more (books 4 thru 6). Out of the second trilogy I liked this (book 6) the best as it covered some interesting pieces of the aliens that have been with the entire series. Yet there will be more war coming evidently in a book seven! Books 1-3 were a good trilogy - books 4-6 a bit forced in my opinion. Book 6 was better than books 4 and 5 but you still have to read them to get to to book 6 :-)

Explosive!! Magnificent!!

And here I am frantically reading Book 6 of the Legacy Fleet Series, desperately wanting to see what's really going on with Tim Granger, and whose toes will Shelby step on next?!! ... yet wanting to drag my feet a bit cuz I don't want it all to end! Then, I learn that Book 7 is COMING!!!! Woohoo!!😃 So, the battles aren't over, and the conniving will continue. The drama, the explosions, the sheer excitement of this wonderful sci-fi series will live on, and I just want to wrap my arms around Nick Webb and say, "YOU are my Hero!"

Well there back, the Swarm and OLD Captain Granger  this is going to be the final battle with the Swarm, but it will come at a cost as expected. But there are a few shocks along the way for Admiral Proctor, her nephew Danny is alive but comes back with an extra friend. To win the battle they will need to pull all four peoples together to work as one can Proctor and Granger do it in time, A great read and I am looking forward to reading book 8.

Of all the S/F series I have read in last 50 years this is the best. To tie up loose ends is an art in itself and this book knocks it out of the park. I hope, really hope there are more books coming. I have a lot of time invested in this series and its characters, and want more, but that may be greed. If I got so wound up with reading and listening, it must be unreal to imagine, plot out, and write all of this. I give Mr. Webb and the others who assisted him my deepest gratitude.

Legacy Fleet

Just finished reading book six in the series and could not put it down just as I had to read all six of the series. If you like outstanding science fiction with lots of action and aliens then you must read this series. The author writes in a way that makes you feel like you are part of the crew and have to keep reading to find out what is next. I can't wait to get book number 7 in the series.

They’re back...

I won’t give away just who’s back, but I couldn’t resist the review title. This is a fun addition to the Legacy Fleet series. And it does a good job setting up what I hear will be the final three books.

If you love the Legacy Fleet stories and characters, you’ll love this.

Liberty and Justice for All

With all the hate in the world, all the shootings, why can't the final words from Ballsy be taken to heart? This series makes me wish the Valarisi were real. Yeah I want to read book 7. Nick Webb's vision in this series makes me want more. Problem is I read at night before bed and can't get enough sleep!

Great finish to the two swarm war theologies. There was not tones of action in this one unlike the others but lots of ploting and planning between the 4 races on how to beat the swarm. Still a very good read and the story does keep moving right along up to the very end. The only thing I didn't like was the ending felt a little rushed but then it sets the story up for book 7.

Just When You Thought You Were Done ...

... You find out, well, not so much. One major element of story-arc is completed, but at least one more is introduced, with uncertainty as to how much further it would be taken; consequently, the reader isn't really sure how much more there is to come. More detailed review to come.

A really nice book to finish the series. Less political intrigue, but I didn't really miss it (even though I did enjoy it in the other books). A good twist near the end. I'm not sure I understand what they did in the last battle of the book, but I'm also not sure that I need to. This series would make a great set of movies.

A Review By A Long-time Sci-fi Reader.

Once again, a great mix of military and civilian action. However, Mr. Webb's proof reading team sorely let him down. Throughout the story there were misspelled words plus some punctuation and syntax errors. Distracting? Sure. But the story was still fun to read.

Couldn't give it 5 stars.....

I would have given five stars, but I found the many typos distracting and annoying. The story line got a bit weird, but it was interesting. Feels like a book 7 is on the way? Was kind of hoping for a definitive ending. All that said, I enjoyed it, and found it as hard to put down as the previous 5 books.

This is the 6th book in this series, and I will read the 7th when or if it comes out. Really enjoy these characters. If you like Star Trek you will like this series. One note I read this on my Kindle and was disturbed by the numbers of grammatical errors which made it hard to read at times. Hopefully this was just a glitch and if you got the actual book it would be better....

Amazing!

Excellent ending to a extremely well written series. Every heart stopping moment of this incredible journey through the galaxy with the crews of the Legacy Fleets has been like watching a movie. I enjoyed reading all six books and highly recommend them if you need a great escape into a world beyond the stars.
