“Matrimony & Mayhem” is Book 11 in the Made in Savannah Cozy Mysteries Series
BONUS: RECIPE INCLUDED!
After a guest keels over while eating at Tony and Shelby’s wedding reception, the Garlucci women scramble to save their new restaurant’s reputation and possibly their family’s lives.
--------------------------
Carlita Garlucci is thrilled now that her new Italian restaurant, Ravello’s Ristorante is finally set to open in just a few days. Her new staff is in place and ready to get down to business.
Even more exciting is Tony and Shelby’s wedding, hosted by Ravello’s, of course. The ceremony is a joyous affair and the guests rave over the authentic Italian feast.
The event is going off without a hitch…until a wedding guest complains of not feeling well, right before collapsing in the courtyard. Is it a simple case of heat exhaustion, perhaps a medical incident, or worse still…food poisoning?
With the new restaurant’s reputation on the line, Carlita and Mercedes spearhead their own investigation and soon realize that some of their own family members might have been the intended targets.
Will they find out who’s behind the deadly scheme or is the matrimonial mayhem just the tip of the iceberg?
Matrimony & Mayhem is the eleventh book in Hope Callaghan’s awesome Made in Savannah Cozy Mystery series. Once again, Ms. Callaghan has written a well-plotted and intriguing mystery, with a great storyline, affable characters, humor, and a strong feeling of the importance of family and friends. The writing style flows smoothly, and this is an easy read, which doesn’t contain any gratuitous sex, graphic violence, or adult language. There are lots of red herrings and twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. The final reveal came as a surprise to me. I highly recommend all the books written by this author to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozy mysteries.
Carlita’s exhausted, but everything seems to be falling into place for Tony and Shelby’s wedding and the opening of Ravello’s Ristorante, the Garlucci family’s new restaurant, a few days after the wedding. Carlita and her daughter, Mercedes, are looking forward to spending time with Violet, Shelby’s young daughter, while Tony and Shelby go on a short honeymoon in Hilton Head. Ravello’s newly hired staff will be preparing and serving the food and beverages during the cocktail hour and dinner following the wedding. All her children and their families are in town for the wedding, but Carlita’s leery when a few unexpected and uninvited guests arrive. Her only sibling, Eddie DelVecchio and his wife, Anjelica, who she hasn’t seen since her husband, Vinnie’s funeral, and Luigi and Ricco, two bodyguards sent by Vito, Brittney’s father, who believes there may be a hit out on Vinnie or his daughter, are among the uninvited guests. Carlita’s anxiety raises several levels when a package mysteriously appears on her doorstep, with a disturbing item inside. The beautiful wedding goes off without a hitch, but tragedy strikes when a young woman, Megan Burelli, collapses during the cocktail hour and passes away while in the hospital. Fearing her food may have been the cause, Carlita is concerned that Ravello’s will be shut down before it even opens. While Officer Nate Clousen of the Savannah Police Department and Detective Polivich investigate, her new friend, Claryce “Reese” Magillicuddy, a Savannah trolley driver, helps Carlita and Mercedes sort through the clues and track down potential witnesses and suspects.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Between the Garlucci family and neighbor Elvira, murder and mayhem are sure to abound! With "family" of all sorts arriving for Tony's wedding, Carlitta is kept buzzing. On top of that, the festivities are taking place at Ravello's, Carlitta's soon-to-be opening restaurant.
It is always fun to read about the Garlucci family, their interactions with the "Family" and their eccentric neighbor Elvira, as well as the mysteries of living in historic Savannah. Sit back and enjoy this latest adventure and check out another tempting recipe.
Another great cozy,Carlotta and Mercedes race to some a murder. I loved the storyline, characters, suspense, the twists and turns. This book is recommended for those who love cozy mysteries.
This author's books really keep you guessing. I like the new characters as she develops them. Each book seems to have more depth than the one before it. All in all, a very fun series.
Once again a well crafted page turning intriguing mystery, which is nicely paced mystery with lots of foreshadowing and clues. Enjoyed how Hope Callaghan brought back into play the intriguing characters of Pirate Pete and Elvira. Hope Callaghan weaves in the characters from the previous stories and therefore refreshes the reader’s memory in a positive way. While I suspected who had a part in the murder, Hope Callaghan provided enough red herrings to throw the reader off. I definitely did not suspect the murderer. A delightful read.
Carlotta Garlucci is starting a new restaurant and is preparing for her son Tony's wedding with Shelby. Her other sons and their families arrive with a security for her son Vinnie and his wife Brittney. Strange things start happening that Carlotta feels is from the New York Mafia. During the reception at Rosvella's a wedding guest collapses and is taken to the hospital and dies. Carlotta tries to figure out what happened and why, while she is taking care of Shelby's daughter Violet until the wedding couple come home from their honeymoon trip. A big surprise ending!
A wedding, a new restaurant and a visit from the mob family .
When a guest at Tony and Shelbys wedding falls ills, Carlitta worries that someone is targeting her family. Carlitta and Mercedes team up to solve the mystery before she is charged with murder and her restaurant closes before it opens. A cozy mystery with enjoyable characters you feel you know. Looking forward to more in this series. Great read!
I've now read all of the books in this series. Must say that this was one of the best. My only complaint was the sudden ending. I won't tell it, of course. Just made me thinking....well how did other things work out & how did the "family" fit into the conclusion, why was Tori left out ?????? For that it lost a star. Would enjoy reading one that's just about a Holiday feast & family celebration, with all the characters.
Another great read from Hope! I so enjoyed each book in this series and that includes this newest one. Love how this family sticks together through all their obstacles. It’s hard to put down this book so if you think you can just read a few pages and walk away, nope, can’t do it! So grab your beverage of choice and get comfortable and prepare yourself for another great adventure with Carlita and her family.
Tony and Shelby's wedding is marred by a guest's collapse and eventual death. Is it connected to the attendance of her son Bonnie and his job princess wife or something else? Follow along with Carlita, Merecedes and the ever aggravating Elvira.
The Garlucci ladies are in the middle of another murder mystery and it hits close to home! I enjoyed reading their investigating the crime and their ability to use their connections to help them. Great plot twist on who the culprits ending up being, I didn't see it coming!
Hope Callaghan writes very good cozy mysteries. I have really enjoyed this series that features Savannah. After traveling through Georgia I get a kick out of reading about Savannah. Ms . Callaghan has a refreshing writing style with no cursing or explicit love scenes. Well written and edited.
Carlita has her hands full with her son's wedding and the opening of her restaurant. It's not all fun and games as people end up dead from her reception food, and threats are made against the family. We met some new characters and I hope they'll be sticking around.
As always, this installment did not disappoint! Being a South Carolinian I enjoy the history and scenery depicted in this series. I am already starting the next installment as the restaurant patrons hunger for food, I hunger for more Mystery and Mayhem and I can count on finding it here!
This series keeps getting better and better. Tony is marrying his bride Shelby. During the wedding a guest becomes sick. It appears the ‘family’ they left up north may have something to do with this! Can the Garlucci girls figure out what’s going on?
I have lived each one of th Savannah books, but this one is a favorite. Jared for it to be over. Ending was not what I thought was going to happen which I enjoyed.
I really like the Made in Savannah Series. It is well written and the Carlucci family drama and sleuthing makes this a really fun read. I have definitely enjoyed reading these books and can't wait for the next one. Thank you Hope.
As usual a good read kept your interest and you never know how it will end. The characters are like you are going through everything with them. You want to wring Elvira's neck the same as Carlita wants to. Can not wait for the next book.
Always interesting to see the family grow as well as the strength and savvy business acumen of Carlitta and Mercedes. The unexplained switch of Sorensen's alias from Blake Tanner (chapter 23), to Taylor (Chapter 25), was confusing.
Terrific continuation of the Carlucci family's starting a new crime free life in Savannah
Anytime a wedding is planned, things get stressful and things go wrong..Luckily most weddings have a happily ever after ending. The Carlucci wedding was not so lucky.
Carlita and Mercedes have another exciting adventure!!!
The whole family is in town for a wedding and the opening of Ravello. Carlita and Mercedes don't let spending time with them get in the way of solving another mystery.
Life in Savannah is always filled with drama and mayhem, and this book is no different . So well written it keeps you trying to.figure out this ending.
This 11th book was a good bit more gritty and exciting. I can’t even begin to imagine what happens when you are connected to the mafia! Whew!! Glad it’s not me 😂
I am hooked on this series! All good characters. They develop, change, grow. Strong family. A death at a wedding. Did Carilta do it NO but who did? And why? New friend Reese made herself known as a real friend.
I enjoyed the book and I also grew up in an Italian neighborhood, so I saw a lot of what was in the book. The arguments among family the kids and how the life is.
Swell written mystery that keeps you guessing until the end. Looking forward to more in this series. Hope Callaghan does not disappoint with her books.
