As the lone survivor of the rescue mission gone wrong, the last thing Staff Sergeant John Decker wanted was the responsibility for a hundred odd, soft as putty, no-nothing, weepy females. Between him and the secret base stood the Sierra Nevada Mountain, four hundred miles of treacherous road and an unknown number of world destroying aliens. Decker thought it would be easy once he reached the base, only to find himself and Pack thrown into even more desperate situations. After finding a way to hurt the mothership in orbit, it meant he'd have to sacrifices even more of the Wolf Pack, and maybe his own life. In the SAS, he'd done some crazy thing, and if there was a kindly God who looked after little children, fools and village idiots, John ‘Wolfman’ Decker hoped he was paying special attention right about now, because he about to be the biggest village idiot of them all, as now they wanted to save the whole human race from extinction.
This was a very decent read, although I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as the previous two books. I got the feeling the author was trying a bit too much and a few of the things that happen weren’t really convincing. Towards the end of the book quite a few things didn’t bear close examination, although there book did end well.
In the previous book there were a couple of times when the author has Decker ignoring his instincts and really obvious information, this also happened a few times in this book.
As for the whole series, I thought it was a really good story. The one area I missed with these books was an indication of what the aliens were thinking. I wouldn’t have needed chapters devoted to them but a few pages every now and then would have added to the story.
Overall I thought the author did a very good job of rounding up this excellent series.
Over all the series was great. The problems I have is when things change either by mistakes or pure laziness. A couple examples; the Wolf Pack going from the 22 SAS Regiment to being called the 23rd SAS Regiment with no explanation. Then towards the end of this book, their ship going g from being called the Werewolf, which fits with the Wolf Pack, to being called the Wolverine, a completely different animal. So you might want to reedit your books. Other than that I loved them.
