About the author

Erika Langmuir, OBE, was educated in France and the United States. She has taught at the University of Sussex and held the Chair of Art History at the Open University. She was Head of Education at the National Gallery from 1988–1995.

All too often traditional voluminous art catalogues spend their lives untouched on the shelf. Not this booklet. It combines the top paintings of the National Gallery with short, insightful comments and a short introduction to each century. The rendition of the paintings is excellent. It rekindles the feeling of seeing them full size. The handy form of this "Quick Visit" facilitates the frequent reoccurence of these moments of bliss. My favourite discoveries were

Precioso libro para recordar la visita a The National Gallery. Ordenado cronológicamente, hace un repaso por varios estilos y menciona varios datos interesantes. Las imágenes de las obras se encuentran en una escala ideal para apreciar todos los detalles que a primera vista se escapan. Personalmente me invitó a seguir conociendo más sobre la vida y obra de varios de los artistas que aparecen. Y por supuesto, alimentó mis ganas de volver a visitar el museo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
