For the last five years, Heath Mitchell’s only priority has been running a successful tattoo shop. Relationships haven’t been on his radar, but as his thirtieth birthday gets closer, Heath realizes just how lonely he is. Like an answer to his prayers, Ned Nice comes into his shop. Despite the instant attraction between them, a dark secret in Ned’s past makes him afraid to get too close to Heath. Ned isn’t the only one with secrets though. Heath is hiding a secret so big it could be a deal breaker. Can Heath and Ned find a way to overcome the demons of their pasts, or is it insane to try?
Author's Note: This is a 91,000 word novel with no cheating and a guaranteed HEA. Trigger warning: Mentions of prior sexual assault.
Re-read after reading book 2. I really enjoyed both books, and can't wait for more in the series!
This book was a happy surprise! This is a new author so I didn't have any expectations, but I really enjoyed this story. One of the MCS is a quintuplet! That's definitely a first for me. I can't wait to read the other books!
Kind of boring and repetitive. I stuck with it right to the end as I don't think it's fair to leave a review on a partly read book, but I won't be reading any of the sequels.
I have to admit I'm more likely to stick to author's I know rather than venture out and read a new one. But this was an author recommended in Lucy Lennox's reader group. Plus, M/M and tattoos? Kindle Unlimited? A series with siblings? I decided the deck was stacked way to high in favor of this book not to try it, and thank goodness I did. I FLOVED this book! I finished in a matter of hours and immediately rushed to the second one. My only regret is the 3rd book isn't out yet!
Heath is a tattoo artist. A gay tattoo artist who is out and proud. He has worked hard and sacrificed for everything he has. He spent his childhood protecting his younger brother and focused on surviving his druggie, neglectful parents. Heath now owns his own tattoo parlor with his best friend, "X". His brother works with them and he has two other "adopted brothers" who also work at the shop. Heath does have a past. He did porn to afford to buy the tattoo shop. He isn't ashamed of it, but doesn't shout it out either.
Ned is an emergency room nurse. He is a quintuplet. Meaning he has four brothers. ALL of them gay. Ned had an amazing childhood with his loving, supportive parents and his brothers. Ned has had several difficult relationships and a traumatic incident in college. He has decided he is better off alone and isn't interested in a relationship. He is happy with his family and his job. Ned accompanies one of his brothers when he gets a tattoo, meeting Heath. Ned and Heath are instantly attracted to each other, but Ned is committed to his decision not pursue a relationship. Heath has other ideas.
Ned is blackmailed into going on a date with Heath by his own brother. Ned finds himself agreeing to more dates with Heath. Pretty soon he's in the relationship he didn't think he wanted, but it is going better than he ever thought it would. There is a little bit of trouble in paradise when Ned learns about Heath's past, but there is a happily ever after for this awesome couple.
Again, I loved this book. There was no angst (thank goodness!). The focus of this perfectly paced book was on these two well developed characters overcoming the trauma of their past and giving into the depths of their feelings for each other. Each of these men have families, both of their choosing and biological, that play a huge supporting role in the book. We get a brief glimpse of each of the quints and the guys that work at the tattoo shop, and those brief glimpses will just leave you wanting more. This book has smoking hot guys, fire hot sex scenes, romance, laughter, and ALL THE FEELS.
I can only hope that each brother ends up with one of the men at the tattoo shop. I can't wait.
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow- Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the at he kids' series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or 'Liberty' from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey’s books) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times a year (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time- reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok). It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
This is the first time I e read a book by this author. I was excited about the tattoo setting, something I love to read about but don’t find many options in the MM genre. There are great characters which makes me excited for the books to come.
A couple issues I did have. There was a lot of telling and not showing in this book. Especially at the beginning and I had to force myself to not give up on the book. There were a couple minor grammatical issues but no big deal. But the fight/makeup scene just made me roll my eyes. Ned who I really liked overreacted in a dramatic, ridiculous fashion, behavior I did not expect from him. It was annoying and made me like him less. I mean, did he tell Heath every job he’s ever had? What if Heath didn’t like one of his? It seems pretty ridiculous to have the all googly eyes, I love you so much, you’re so perfect happening for a quarter of the book to the over the top reaction of this. Well, if you really loved someone would you act like a 5 year old or an adult? This could have been a valuable heart to heart, sticking it out and working through a non-issue but it wasn’t.
This is a great book from a new to me author. Usually I don’t really try many new things without a recommendation but came across this, it sounded interesting and like something I’d enjoy so I decided to give it a chance. Very very glad I did!
Firstly hot inked men, yes please. Secondly, family connections-one of my favorite things. I absolutely love series about families whether by blood or brotherhood. Thirdly, more sexy men-in uniform and a slightly geeky writer. It’s like the author set out to hook me-probably not, but it worked anyway!
I really liked Heath & Ned’s connection and how they worked together. There wasn’t as much naughty time as some but it fit the story and the chemistry and passion was there regardless. They worked out their conflict towards the end maybe not ideally but realistically.
Overall a well done, engaging book. Loving and sexy. some serious moments but plenty of lighter moments and of course gotta have sarcasm and teasing when you’ve got families involved. Loved meeting all the characters and I will be looking forward to more. Wonder who is next!
For five years Heath Mitchell has steered clear of relationships and instead concentrated on running his successful tattoo shop. Then as he approaches thirty he realises that he is actually lonely. Then Ned Nice comes into his shop and there is an instant attraction between them but a dark secret from Ned's past keeps him too scared to get close to Heath but he is not the only one with a big secret and Heath's is probably much more of a deal-breaker. Can they both move on from their past or is it insane to even try?
I really enjoyed this story which had a nice concentration on emotions and prior experiences. I loved the entire concept of the Nice family and their very supportive parents. I loved the mature attitude and approach that Ned and Heath had to their relationship, potential problems and working them out. A nice sensitive book that was easy to read, feel and understand. This is a book for mature readers only containing references to a sexual assault and as well as a description of an M:M sexual relationship.
Contains: slow burn, sexy nurse, tattoo artist, light sex scene, no kink, no anal and a bit of porn star.
*Read the trigger warning before starting if you have triggers.
Interesting. Great family dynamic. A beautiful way of writing that keeps us interested in the book. Sometimes and especially during a Slow Burning where the action takes more time, I can be a bit disconnected, but in this case not at all, I remains hooked on the words on the pages. It is a book that has a lot to offer. Throughout the book, we wonder what happened in the past of our characters that affects their personality, their mentality. The past gaves them their strength, but also their weakness. Will they choose to leave theirs fears and take the leap to love?
I decided to remove a star because often the sentences in the narration will come back in a conversation in the next chapter, it is redundant.
I just stumbled upon this book because the second book was being promoted on someone's page. I decided to read the first book before I read the second. I realize she usually writes your typical m/f romances occasionally sprinkling a m/m there. Well this book made me a fan of her and her m/m books and I look forward to the next book. This book was amazing and I couldn't put it down. Ned and his brothers were fantastic along with Heath and the guys from his tattoo shop. I look forward to seeing if and when Ned' brother's get their happy and it the rest of the guys from the tattoo shop.
Because this book was unnecessarily repetitious. I mean holy cow, how many times did we have to be reminded of things, chapter after chapter? And I mean anything from silly details like someone's height, to entire paragraphs. So that was one strike , the second one came in the form of calling each other hussies and bitches. They are men, not women, that is something I don't understand or like in a book.
I will say however, that the characters were not bad, in fact, they were interesting enough for me to consider reading the rest of the series, especially about Oliver. We shall see.
This was an easy read and I loved the setting: a tattoo shop. Heath and Ned were both sweethearts. But.... I don’t know if this book has been edited but I think it would benefit from it. There was too much repetitive writing. Also the writing was a lot of telling instead of showing. There was too much juvenile dialog between the tattooists as well as the brothers. Also, a lot of phone calls and text instead of IRL meetings. I would have loved a bit more drama, f.i with Heath’s mother. The side characters did not show much depth although I’m curious about Flynn as wel as Oliver. I will definitely read the next book!
Really enjoyed this book...looking forward to more in the series
Read it in one sitting...couldn’t put it down. Heath and Ned are such great characters I fell for them immediately and was rooting for their HEA. You know long before it happens what the crisis is going to be but when it happened I was gutted for Heath. I was also a little annoyed with Ned...little hypocritical on his part re keeping secrets from people you love because you are afraid of how they’ll react. He never sees that of course.
Really looking forward to future books in this series.
It was a good book, it just didn't suck me in. Usually if I really enjoy a story I can read the book in a day or two, this took me a week. I found myself putting it down and reading something else and then going back to it. That's not to say I won't read the rest of the series because I will.
There wasn't anything about this book that I didn't love. Great characters, good story lines, and a lot of humor, my favorite thing about books!!!!! These characters are awesome. I was thrilled beyond anything that this is going tone a series!! I can't wait for the next book.
This is really sweet, and funny, and romantic story about a bad ass looking tattoo artist and a sweet and shy nurse who didn't hope to fine a true love. It's really unputdownable, I just stayed all night reading it. Can't wait to read the next one, about Derek and Flynn.
This was a new author for me and I love tattoo stories! I loved getting to know shy Ned and Heath and his ‘family’ at Inksane. I had me in stitches laughing along at the banter between the tattooists and Ned and his brothers. I can’t wait to read the next book.
It's a fun reading. The characters in general are funny and interesting. But I expected more of the ending. It felt like the book reached the number of pages allowed so let's end it. Some aspects of Ned sexuality was totally neglected. The kisses and sex scenes were weak. They lacked emotion. But I will keep reading the series bc I liked the characters.
This is 1st book by this author ive read. I'm glad I discovered this series. Although I felt like there wasnt enough MC storyline and too much side plot that didnt really seem to lead the the next book or add anything I enjoyed it. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.
New author for me and it’s an ok read. I like Heath. He did what he had to to realize his dream. I don’t like Ned much. He’s an ungrateful brat and he gets upset with his family for caring about him. I like Ollie the most and will probably continue with the series so I can read his story.
I’m so in love with all 5 brothers. Let’s hope they all get a book. But back to Ned and Heath. Wow. I love that Heath is so caring and loving to Ned especially with every thing Ned has been through. Loved it. Look forward to more in this series. Thanks.
This is a wonderful book. I fell in love with the characters from the Beginning. It is not a steamy book it is full of heart the love that is shown between the 2 characters is beautiful
I loved the characters and their love for each other. Excited for the next books in the series. This is my first book by this author and I recommend it if you're looking for good love story.
the chemistry was almost there but then the author killed it by ending the book right when it was getting good. Ned talked about never having been rimmed and poor guy didn't get it in this book either. why even put that in the book if its not going to happen later on
I really liked this book. Solid characters, good plot, not too angsty. I’m definitely interested in reading more about the secondary characters in future books.
