Shanice is living her best life. Her career is thriving, her curves are popping and her relationship with her boyfriend has been tailor-made to support her carefree lifestyle. Her parents are healthy and supportive of her decisions and her best girlfriend, Nedra, keeps her laughing and supplied with wine. She can’t imagine there is anything else that could make her life better than it already is.
However, when something seems too good to be true, that’s probably because it is. What seemed unbreakable, starts to crumble and what was unimaginable begins to manifest in a way she didn’t see coming. Now, with so much uncertainty surrounding her, Shanice has to remember how to trust her intuition even when she can’t see the whole picture.
Chencia C. Higgins is just a girl from Texas who has made it her mission to create stories in which sassy, southern Black women are loved out loud. Her Carina Adores debut, D’Vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding, was a New York Times best romance of 2022. When she isn't hunkered down in her writing cave, Chencia can be found with her nose in a book, saving recipes on Pinterest for things she’ll never make, and dreaming about travelling even further south for the winter.
This was a very enjoyable read. Shanice and Byron seemed to balance each other out perfectly, I guess that’s what happens when you’re soulmates. I love the polyamorous element that was used in the story....it was different.
I'm never sure whether I'm going to be happily happy or estastic after reading a book by this author. This time I was overjoyed. This story was maddening, emotional, and down right delectable. I loved Take Charge Young Man Byron. As the story unfolded, it was obvious he would be the better man for Shanice. From the initial meeting with Byron and Shanice's man Jeremy, something was always off with her and Jeremy. Trusting her true feelings about both men became part of her struggle to see the true nature of real love and happiness. Loved this story, the premise was very interesting. This author is one to watch! Remember you heard it here!!!
Don't know many couples that willingly enter into open relationships, such as this. Just feels like a recipe for disaster. Unfortunately, Shanice was burned in the process. Byron was such a kind and loving person. Great dad that loved his family. When he set his sights on Shanice, it was game over. She really was making me upset, giving him the run around with her indecisiveness. He had to wear her down. Jada was too cute, with her sassy self. Good read.
From the title your imagination begins to run wild. Just when you think you have it all figured out the author shows you exactly what creative freedom can do to a story. The best thing about this book is that Chencia gives you emotions that reaches various levels of depth. It allows you to appreciate her creative mind. I didn’t expect the story to end on this note but I was still fulfilled with the closing of this story. It is a book worth picking up.
I really enjoyed reading Shanice and Byron's story. Byron was such a sweetheart. Shanice I wanted to strangle at times but I felt for her with the things she went through with Jeremy. He was something else. I'm glad Shanice stopped being stubborn and decided to just trust her heart with Byron. Ms Chencia your on my author list.
Characters were developed and relatable. The lovemaking scenes were pretty intense but not vulgar if that makes sense (make no mistake though, I’m fine either way).
I couldn’t stop reading until the very last page. It was a little too short for me - that’s my only complaint. Will be reading this author’s other books and see if she’s the real deal. So, stay tuned.
I wasn't expecting this. This was a real good read. I need to know how Niecy and Jeremy came upon this polyamorous thing. I want to know what happened that led her to that decision. Great read
He was not playing wit her. Byron sexy single daddy and to cute daughter then got them a cougar. I want more. Him and his mama got to get right and he will be raising Jada with Niecy. Now! Shoot he was shooting all in her club... I really enjoyed this read.
This book was nothing like what I expected. In all reality I had no idea what to expect from the title. It this as an amazing story of hurt, love and the growth that true love can cause
This story was told in such a realistic way I felt like I was a witness to it all. The fight Shanice put up trying to keep her feelings at bay about Byron is so relatable. Well written, beautiful love story.
The story was interesting and I would read a sequel if there is one. I read the kindle version which had a lot of typos. Hopefully this is corrected in future versions.
Shanice was just trying to protect her heart, Jeremy was sketchy from the start and Byron wasn't taking no for an answer. The issues that both Shanice and Byron have individually would be interesting to explore because one conversation, especially on his part with his mom, won't be enough. This is my first read by this author and I would highly recommend it. I would've loved to get more backstory on Jeremy and Shanice's "arrangement" because I wasn't expecting that at all. Byron was a young tender who knew what he wanted, I ain't mad at em!!
