A man with something to hide, and a woman with nowhere to go - and neither can leave the island until morning…
Luke, the Marquis of Dewsbury, is a complete rogue. Bested by none and adored by many, he finds himself sent away from town by his embarrassed father where he discovers the young and innocent Miss Adena Garland.
At only eighteen years old, she becomes his unlikely companion as they become trapped on an island after high tide.
The night is long, and likely to be cold - but the heat rising between Miss Garland and the Marquis of Dewsbury could keep both of them warm.
Will Luke continue his stream of conquests? Or will Adena find being marooned with a Marquis enough to give into temptation?
This is the fourth in a series of eight Ravishing Regencies.

Cute though short story. I would love to see it expanded into a longer story with more depth or take several of these and make a box set. The writing was well done, but just had plenty of room add to it. I would rate this more like 4.5 Stars but that’s not an option. 😊
I found this a really good book. Luke is a really great character. Adena is lost on an island cut off by the tide. Luke comes to her rescue after he happens upon her in trouble. Adena is a strong character and provides skills needed to survive.
Marooned with a Marquis is the fourth book in Murdoch’s Ravishing Regencies series. Wow! What a ride! I couldn’t put this novella down. When Adena Garland gets stranded on a deserted island by the evening tides, she is rescued by a dashing stranger and they must spend the night together to survive. “She looked at him, and her cheeks flamed even deeper as the thought crossed her mind, the more she noticed just how handsome he was. Tall, with chestnut hair that was a little too long to be fashionable, broad shoulders and a grin that none of her words seemed to have wiped from his face.” Murdoch very quickly drew me into this tale of romance and deception. There are a number of sex scenes in the book that are quite steamy. I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series.
Marooned with a Marquis by Emily Murdoch book 4 Ravishing Regencies series. Is a Steamy Regency Romance. The characters are a delight. Enjoyed the banter between them. My free opinion. Thanks
This is an OK Regency romance, but I didn't really believe the couple was in love. They were definitely in lust, but their instalove was just too unlikely and unbelievable.
I liked Adena, but Luke was a lot harder to like. It was disgusting that he lied to Adena, simply because he wanted a chance to seduce her. He knew she was an innocent, but that didn't seem to bother him. He did change his mind about seducing her, but then they end up having sex anyway. A good guy would never have done that.
I also thought it was very unlikely that Adena would have had sex with him. She would have been worried about her reputation, and about getting pregnant. Women of that time period very rarely engaged in pre-marital sex, and especially not with someone they had only known a few hours. Pre-marital sex was fairly common for betrothed couples, but not for others. I also thought it was a bit ridiculous that she automatically assumed they would get married, just because they had sex -- I get that many women of that time period were very naive, but that was a stretch for me.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Miss Adena Garland just wanted to take a walk on the beach. But the tide came in quickly and she ends up trapped on an island with Luke, the Marquis of Dewsbury. Luke is a rogue and is keeping some secrets and Adena is young but spirited. As they try to keep warm for the night, will they give in to temptation?
First off, I really enjoy Emily E.K. Murdoch's writing style and this book is no exception. It's easy to read and there are moments of humor and seriousness throughout. Adena defies expectations and I appreciate watching her put Luke in his place. He's definitely much less likeable, although it's satisfying to read about this rake finally having to grovel.
The only reason I didn't rate this book higher is because of Luke. He makes some choices that I can't agree with and hit on things that I'm just very sensitive about. If you enjoy historical romance and don't mind characters keeping secrets that impact the relationship, I definitely think you should read this book. I flew through it.
Trigger warning: loss of a loved one
Thank you to Emily E.K. Murdoch for providing a copy of this book for review. All opinions are my own.
This is a quick and sweet read. It is a very sexy romance between Miss Adena Garland and Lord Luke Northmere, the Marquis of Dewsbury, the heir to the Duke of Northmere. Adena finds herself in a predicament she tries to get out of by herself. Luke finds her and rescues her from her own foolishness. At this point, Luke decides to keep a secret from Adena so he can spend more time with her. As they get to know each other they become enamored with each other. They spend the night enraptured with each other. In the morning, Adena does not hear from Luke any more of his amorous declarations and is heartbroken. She makes assumptions, he makes assumptions and everything gets messed up. When Adena finds out about the secret Luke harbored, she is furious and runs away from him. She returns to her friend’s home. Luke does not know where she is staying and has no way to contact her. He speaks to his good friend and gets some clever advice. Luke acts on it. When Adena become aware of it, she is touched and hope rekindles in her heart. Do they have a chance at lifelong happiness? Marooned with a Marquis is a short and hot period romance in which a lady meets a man while stranded on an island by the tide. The story is fairly simple, and primarily serves as an excuse to get the two characters together. I did not find I liked these particular characters all that much, but if a reader enjoys this type of book, the author has a whole series of them, and they are pretty entertaining.
Adult readers only. These books contain graphic sex scenes. I personally find the sex scenes in this series of books to be excessively long and somewhat silly.
The narrator is good at bringing these books to life, though her reading if the male character, Luke, made him sound more pompous, demanding, and winy then he might have otherwise come off. I have to say, she puts a fair amount of effort into bringing the emotion into the scenes, and while some of the moments in the sex scenes seemed rather embarrassing, it wasn’t for lack of effort on the narrator’s part.

A nice story of two people who met by chance. Adena Garland daughter of a merchant, and needing to get away from London accepts an invitation from her friend to stay some time with her. Rowena lives by the sea. She decided to go for a stroll on the beach. As she walked, she lost track of time. She turned and could not see the house, she was lost. She tried to go back but was blocked by the tide coming in and it had turned the land, she stood on, into a small island, Squires Isle. Luke, the Marquis of Dewsbury, he also was on a walk on the beach. But he knew how to get off the Isle. When they met he fell in love with her and decided not to tell her. This is for an older group of people, there are some sexy scenes. It is well written, fun and romantic, the characters are great and spend a lot of time teasing each other and other pursuits. There are a few twists and misunderstandings to keep the book interesting.
Marooned with a Marquis is the second of Emily Murdoch’s Ravishing Regencies series books that I’ve read (though it’s actually book 4), the other being Lost With A Lord. I’m regretting missing books 2 and 3 as this book 4 was probably the perfect example of the promised “Steamy Regency Romance” - and I’ve read (many) hundreds of Regency Romances so I actually do have a basis for comparison. I love a good “reform the Rake” tale and this was far better than mere “good”. Both Adena Garland, our heroine here, and her beau to be, Luke, the Marquis of Dewsbury, are superbly crafted and it’s a total pleasure to follow along this well written tale as their romance eventually blossoms no matter how unpredictably. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
Title: Marooned with a Marquis Author: Emily E. K. Murdoch Format: Audio Narrator: Julia Eve Genre: Romance, Regency Standalone: yes (mostly - there’s a bit of a tease for the next book at the end) Part of a Series: Book 4 of the Ravishing Regencies series POV: Adena and Luke Steam Level: Warm 4/5
I haven’t read a lot of regency romances but I’m pretty picky about the ones I read. However, I really like this series. What I like the most about these books are the heroines. And Adena is no exception. Smart and funny, Adena outwits Luke in her survival skills. There are two things that bug me. The first is the roundabout communication (or lack thereof) that leads to misconception and missed cues. The other is that because of the little tease at the end there is no epilogue. I fed like epilogues make stories feel complete.
I reviewed this audiobook for free from Audiobook Obsession. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Very readable! Adena is a fiery red head with a temper to match who is not afraid to go after what she wants. Luke initially thinks he can put one over with her and is very surprised when she takes control of their so-called marooned situation. He also tends to think of how he would like to act with her but tends not to do so resulting in many a lost opportunity. This is an intense love story where emotion and passion flow freely and quickly. The two fall in love and there were very unexpected twists in this story just when I didn't expect them and this made it all the more interesting. I loved the characters, the way their minds worked and how they related to each other, making this a very enjoyable and interesting read and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have. I read an Advance Reader Copy of this ebook and my review is voluntary and unbiased.
3 1/2 Stars but rounded up to 4 - This was a short, entertaining read - a good beach, patio afternoon story. Luke, the Marquis of Dewsbury is a well established rogue among the Ton. He has been sent to the country after he has become an embarrassment to his father. & plans to stay a bachelor. Miss Adena Garland is an innocent young lady who has gone to the country to visit a friend. She went out walking on the beach & lost track of time & when she realized the sun was setting, she also discovered the tide had come in & she was now on a island.
Luke is there watching the sunset, knowing a way to the mainland even when the tide is in. When Adena & Luke meet on the beach, he blatantly lies to her & says they will have to spend the night. Her innocence but curiosity leads to a lusty night for both of them - but what will happen when the tide goes out. I liked the characters, I just wished there would have been more time to get to know them better & I definitely wished for an epilogue!
There are times when the unexpected events in life bring about new and exciting possibilities, as Luke, the Marquis of Dewesbery discovered when Miss Garland stepped onto his island. Caught by the tide, Adena finds that she has no way back to the mainland and when she is seemingly rescued by a stranger, all her feistiness comes to the fore. Luke is fascinated by the fiery redhead and before long, he is rethinking his stance on love, relationships and marriage. This is a well-written and lighthearted Regency romance. Whilst it is part of a series, it is nevertheless a standalone and comes to an unusual ending for this particular genre. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I just wanted something short and simple so I chose this book in Amazon. A unique way for a hero and heroine to meet but the foundation of the plot is really your typical historical romance. The handsome hero and the beautiful virgin heroine. They meet and sort of fall in love at first sight. They have a miscommunication of sorts and then hero grovels the next time they meet and the heroine forgives him and they settle their misunderstanding. The HEA is guaranteed. I consider this a light read despite the lovemaking scenes because the storyline and characters has no intricate depth to it. I wish there was an epilogue. If you are looking for a feel good story just to pass the time then this may be okay.
I had a hard time getting into this one. I couldn't quite connect to the characters so felt disengaged. It was written well and seemed to have a good flow to it, I just didn't get there myself. I listened to the audio book and the narrator was fine, not a favorite or really outstanding for me but not bad either. The story and plot might work for others, it just didn't work for me. I needed a little bit more of the characters and/or between the characters for things to have worked. I just didn't get that connection feeling between the characters for the fast pace of falling in love in one night to work for me.
What a comical , exasperating and finally happy ending. Adena is certainly a fiery redhead with a somewhat mercurial temper...( like most redheads😉). Luke , the Marquis , is charming , even if he has no intention of getting " shackled".. little dies he know that he's about to do an about face with the help of a gentlewoman who can cook, gut a fish and knows astronomy! If you haven't read Emily's book , then by all means do so..I picked it up and read it in one sitting just to see what happened next!
Loved every minute!

I enjoyed this story and have enjoyed the series. In this one, Adena wanted to be alone, found herself stranded due to the tide coming in, and determined to get back to the beach by walking through the water. Luke "rescued" her, and their romance began. Adena was honest and open, and accepting of her fate. I wanted to smack Luke to get him to reveal his secret, but other than that, he was open with Adena. Their love was one of first sight, the sparks flew quickly, and the depth of their feelings became obvious. I recommend this story.
Short but satisfyingly romantic tale about the power of love at first sight. Enticingly charming characters, sizzling chemistry and touching sentiment. I love the fact Adena is no wilting wallflower - she's intelligent, passionate and adept at survival a great match for the cynical yet charmingly honourable Luke. A rather touching novella fuelled by passion. A highly enjoyable way to spend a few hours. Will definately be hunting out Rowena's story, Murdoch has me intrigued already. Loved it!
Prepare yourself for a fantastic read! Luke a cynical Marquis cannot understand how two of his best friends have fallen in love and plan to marry until he meets Adena one moonlight night on Squires Isle and falls head over heels just as quickly. Lots of steamy moments with some misunderstanding only to overcome it all with a happy ever after.
Another fantastic book from Emily with a wonderful ending and a cliffhanger to get you excited for the next book in the series which I can’t wait to read!
Excellent! Story, adventures, and bold, the Marquis thought he,d never fall in love and marry like all his friends, but one never knows when Cupid's arrow will Pierce your heart, until that is! Your marooned on an island with a beautiful bold lady.A recipe for living happily ever after. Thank you! For sharing and writing such a wonderful read.💞
In this short enjoyable, character driven story, we are treated to an enjoyable Regency era romance where Adena Garland is taking a walk on the beach only to find the rising tide has stranded her, only to meet the Marquis of Dewsbury, equally stranded. Other series main characters make major appearances in this and other books in the series but they work in any order.
I received an ARC from the author, the comments and opinions are my own. Another great read from Emily E K Murdock. This story is about Luke, George's older brother. He meets Adena and the fun begins. I would recommend this book to all who love a love (lust) at first sight story.
I found this book to be very entertaining. Loved Adena and the fact that she really used her mind but was also open to love. Luke is a very funny character too as he can't stand the thought of being shackled like his friends yet that's exactly what happens. Very sweet and funny romance.
Miss Adena Garland while visiting her friend Rowena Kerr is marooned by the incoming tide on a small island unfortunately with Luke the Marquis of Dewsbury. The attraction is instant but can they see their actions resulting in a happy ending. An enjoyable well-written romance novella
I liked this story from the first chapter. Well written, charming characters and lovely location. I’m glad the heroine came to her senses and did not create numerous problems with immature behavior. Love everything of Emily’s that I have read!
I WAS SUPER EXCITED AFTER I READ THE BLURB. A HISTORICAL ROMANCE VERSION OF SOMETHING LIKE SIX DAYS, SEVEN NIGHTS WAS TOO HARD TO PASS UP. ONCE I MET THE CHARACTERS...I JUST SHUT THE COVER. THERE WAS NO DEPTH TO THIS STORY BUT PLEASURE READING.
Like the previous Regency Romances, this story hits the mark with humor, passion, and most importantly love. As a firm believer in love at first sight the plot is believable and plausible. I really have enjoyed these books, thank you, Jack.
