Lori is a child of the Southwest. Raised in New Mexico, she now lives in Texas with her husband of 40 years. She has two grown kids, four amazing grandsons, and one nutty little pomeranian named Zuzu.
There is a lot to enjoy about this historical romance debut. I found the story line to be engaging and the villain to be plausible. There was some humor in the pages and I enjoyed the characters. While reading I found myself more engaged in some parts than others. The cover is simply lovely. I plan to read the author's sophomore novel.
I’m not all that much of a romance reader, but I truly enjoyed this book. Just enough tension in parts. Great humorous scenes-I laughed out loud! Twists and turns. Historical setting. Tender, tasteful romance. Yep. Good book. Why are you still here? Go buy it!
An excellent read with great romantic tension, suspense, plot twists, and some laugh out loud moments. It also incorporates a message of forgiveness. This book has it all!
•°o•:*:•. Damsel in Distress with Clever Banter.•:*:• o°• I recently found out about this new book because another author (Roseanna M. White) shared the cover she had designed. I loved it and decided to investigate and ended up offering to join Lori’s street team. I am very glad I did. England 1860, Midnight “Moonlight fell through an open casement as a rising shadow crept closer to the bed.” Now, how’s that for an opening line? It’s one of many that implies danger and intrigue which kept me guessing. Nicholas Saberton is an American naval captain and runs Haverwood Shipping. He has been summoned to escort no-nonsense Lord Haverwood and his daughter, Lady Victoria, from England to the colonies. He is a large, formidable man who speaks his mind and is not used to being summoned, particularly without explanation. However, out of respect for family ties, he agrees and is thrown into a whirlwind of peril and secrets, and a feisty female to boot. FUN QUOTE: “Never make the mistake of confusing me with your average man.” Lady Victoria has been groomed at finishing school and trained by her uptight father to hold her tongue regardless of her opinions. However, Nicholas finds great amusement in provoking her beyond her well-trained manners. They lob jabs at each other continually that are amusing and at times, sweet. Zachery Saberton captains The Tempest and is the youngest of the three Saberton brothers. He is of a gentler nature, yet still a strong and dependable young man. I enjoyed him as well. Aunt Charlotte is quite the colorful character who is a kindly middle-aged woman without a mean bone in her body and, along with her lovely and musically talented daughter Aurora, are of the American Haverwoods. TEA MOMENT: “Tell Flossie to put on a kettle for tea. Edward likes his tea, you know. My, my, my, but look at you. What a beauty.” -Aunt Charlotte SPECIAL QUOTE: “Simmons, man the prow. It’s just a squall. We’ll ride it out. There’s blue skies up ahead.” I won’t reveal a spoiler here, but this scene was, for me, a tear-jerker. There were several interesting quotes above each chapter, from scriptures to famous authors. Laugh out loud moments and ones that made me smile were also enjoyed. I liked the way Tori and Nicholas came together and recommend this historical love story. Another bonus was the large font this book is printed in. Much appreciated. Sierra Vista Books – 2018 The author sent me a complimentary book in the hopes of a favorable review, with no further compensation. She is very approachable on her website LoriBatesWright.com :)
A Journey worth Taking! This is the first audible/story that I have listen to by this author and I have to say, I am anxious for all she has written! Suspense, intrigue, romance and humor... what more can you ask for? Oh yes, a handsome American hero and a feisty English Lady heroine, with the first page starting off with a bang!
When Lord Haverwood received a note that he needed to take precautions because his daughter Victoria would be killed before her 20th birthday, he took action, Hiring Nicholas Saberton to take he and his daughter to America, was his next step.
I loved the banter and unexpected humorous statements between the characters. The voyage landed them in Savannah, Georgia at the house of Tori's aunt.
A journey of many twist and turns, danger and secrets that come forth very unexpectedly! The narrator overall did an excellent job and all I can say is I cannot wait to listen to book 2 of this exciting series!
True Nobilty, by Lori Bates Wright, is the first book in The Saberton Legacy series. Abounding with surprises and unexpected twists, this novel is thoroughly entertaining. Well-written and thoughtfully composed from start to finish, this book is a pleasure to read. With a satisfying blend of romance, history, and mystery, True Nobility is very compelling and enjoyable. True Nobility features an intriguingly rich plot that is extremely clever and character-driven. This novel creatively explores the themes of deception, love, redemption, honor, and courage through a varied cast of captivating characters who are vividly developed and truly likable. Their motivations, fears, desires, and choices carry significant purpose and meaning. Also integral to the story is the historic Savannah, Georgia setting. Often just as noteworthy and memorable as the characters themselves, Savannah and its fully detailed surroundings provide a striking backdrop for the majority of the novel’s most powerful scenes. True Nobility is a story of faith, forgiveness, trust, and truth. Strengthened by Ms. Wright’s richly descriptive style and attention to historical detail, this book is truly satisfying and engaging. The romance and mystery within this novel are certainly elements worthy of being savored. True Nobility is thoughtful, emotionally stirring, and ultimately uplifting. I recommend it wholeheartedly. *I was given a copy of this book by the author. A review was not required. The review I have written contains opinions that are entirely my own.
This is such a delightful book! The characters are very enjoyable! The story had just enough twists and turns to keep me hooked all the way through! I’m so hoping that there will be more book to go with this one! I definitely recommend this!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
3.5 stars "When she married, she'd like to think it would be because her heart was bound by love alone."
Obviously Victoria Haverwood's father didn't agree. How humiliating! Quite infuriating! The Earl had just proceeded to virtually auction her off, proposing marriage on her behalf, to an American sea captain of all people; never mind that Captain Saberton was heir to the dukedom of a family friend (which he was not at all inclined to accept), or that his commanding presence only contributed to his tall, dark, and handsome appearance. For reasons yet unknown to Victoria, her father was desperate to set sail from England as quickly as possible and was convinced that Nicholas Saberton was the one and only person he could trust to get them across the Atlantic safely.
She was lovely, elegant, refined, . . . . and probably spoiled, but the lady knew how to speak her mind, Nicholas Saberton would grant her that. It was a bit amusing to suffer through her father's misguided offer of marriage to his daughter, for Nicholas considered himself more than capable of keeping the "Princess" Haverwood safe from the threat of harm that Lord Haverwood was convinced might follow them, . . . . without marrying her. It didn't take long before the earl's worries proved warranted, for Victoria was nearly attacked before Nicholas' ship ever left port. And from then on, it seemed that life and eventually love would drive Victoria Haverwood into the strong and protective arms of Nicholas Saberton over and over again, begging the question; was that where either of them wanted her to be? And when trouble comes calling, will Nicholas stand to lose everything that he has gained?
"I must say . . . What I mean is, I've quite decided to love you."
Enjoy every word of flirtatious dialogue while "refined-banters-rogue" (but, only on the outside), fondly observing two characters transform into better versions of themselves, because they have loved each other. Truly, "He who finds a wife find a good thing." Provers 18:22 . . . . . even is she is a hand full.
I have both the kindle version and the audio version of True Nobility, the first book I've encountered by Author Lori Bates Wright. I listened to the audio version and absolutely loved it! It was fantastic! The narrator was soooo good, and the story so compelling. I loved all the twists and turns, danger, and romance. If the second and third audio books were ready, I'd be snapping them right up. Now I have to decide if I am patient enough to wait, or if I want to get the kindle versions instantly. Truly this was a very enjoyable story with excellent narration! I can't wait for more!
True Nobility is Lori Bates Wright's first novel, and you can indeed tell. Victoria Haverwood has just been carted back home per her slightly eccentric father's request. Add to her confusion over her father's even-more-paranoid-than-usual attitude a last minute trip to America to visit family her father rarely spoke of and a brash young American naval captain, and Tori's got herself quite the pickle. Nicholas Saberton has been asked to accompany Lord Haverwood and his daughter Lady Victoria to the States. An easy job. Simple. But when he meets the high-and-mighty Lady Tori, everything suddenly becomes complicated. And with the threat of murder hanging over their heads, nothing is quite as simple as it seems. Though True Nobility captured and held my attention with a fast moving plot and suspenseful situation, a few aspects of the book took away from the overall enjoyment. The characters were one dimensional and could've been explored in more depth. Wright's prose was average for most authors: straightforward, tell-it-like-it-is, simple. I found that most things, such as emotion, were told in her writing rather than shown. And as most editors/publishers/veteran authors will tell you, that is a no-no. I agree. The plot did remind me of Pirate of My Heart by Jamie Carie, but I found that I actually liked True Nobility better. For one, the characters were not as stupid. On a good note, Wright came up with an intriguing story-line that held me right to the end and had me itching to find out what happened. For that, I commend her. Because if it weren't for that, I likely would've put the book down. The banter between the two characters, Victoria and Nicholas, had me laughing, along with a few other situations that Wright carefully placed the characters in. Another amateur move that took away from the story was the fact that the Earl of Wrenbrooke--Tori's father--was referred to as Lord Haverwood rather than Lord Wrenbrooke. Inaccuracies such as this with the proper titles of nobility have become a common occurrence in historical fiction, but it never ceases to irk me. Though if one doesn't know nor care much about properly addressing nobility, it won't take away from the story. Aside from all this, if you're looking for a fast-paced, suspenseful story with a touch of romance, True Nobility is for you.
This is the charming and humorous debut novel of Lori Bates Wright. The cover is simply beautiful and the book's description drew me in to purchase it, and I'm glad I did. Most of the characters are simply wonderful. Nicholas is the best hero! Quite a few scenes are laugh-out-loud funny, from Victoria's anticipating a kiss that never came, to Aurora's sad attempt at flirting, not to mention Aunt Charlotte's ridiculous hats. The well-meaning Americans referring to the earl as "Your Graciousness", among other things, was hysterical. This is a Christian novel, but religious references are subtle and appropriate. I learned a new term (no spoilers here), something I've not read before.
I'm always on the lookout for clean and well-written historical romance novels and this did not disappoint. There are a few grammatical errors, such as using the word "stationary" when the word should be "stationery", or "discretely" when the author clearly meant "discreetly". These minor inaccuracies do not detract from the story. I look forward to the next book in the series.
This is a New to Me Author. I have this on audible, from the author. Unfortunately, I couldn't get on with the audible version, so I looked into it and found that this book was on KU. So I downloaded, and wow, really enjoyed this story. A few twists and turns that kept me reading. Romance, Ingrigue, mystery. I must admit, I didn't want to put this down. I loved Victoria's story. There was a real change in her character from the beginning of the book to the end. I loved the family dynamics too. Quite humourous I really enjoyed the poems and the scriptures at the beginning of the chapters. Also, the christian aspect through this book. Looking forward to the next one in the series. I didn't give this 5 stars, as there were a few errors in the book that could have done with being proof read again, maybe.
Every chance I had, I was listening to this engaging story. It was so easy to listen to Austenne Grey’s voice. She did excellent with the distinct character voices. She also did a fantastic job matching her pace to the action of the wonderful tale. I thoroughly enjoyed the quotes that introduced each chapter leading into this romantic read. The wonderful characters had trials to face leading to unexpected choices and lessons. As the suspense increased, I realized that although I wanted to know the resolution, I didn’t want this story to end. Fortunately, I realized this book is just the first of a series. I was given a copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.
What a delightful book. It is filled with adventure, romance, mystery, and humor. Victoria is trying to bring her culture into America and it is not a successful endeavor. Nicolas is enjoying her failing efforts all too much and finds teasing her is quite a pleasure for him. But little by little their relationship changes and little by little they each break down the walls of the other and they each begin to leave their past behind them. All of the characters are just great and each has a particular role to play in the plot.
The narrator is superb and brings the characters to life with great skill.
I requested this audio book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this review.
I listened to the audiobook of this story. Narrator was good. This is the first time reading this author and I was thoroughly entertained. Lady Victoria has waited to become the mistress of Wrenbrooke, but plans are changed. When an attempt on her life, her Father hires Captain Nicholas to escort them from England to America. It doesn't stop the threats and her Father wants Victoria to marry Nicholas to stop the crimes. This doesn't work either. Can Nicholas save her before it is too late. I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.
I found this book just okay. It had some adventure and of course romance but I found parts of it unbelievable. It wasn't a book that captivated me where I hated to put it down. I did like the strong message of forgiveness and that forgiveness isn't always accepted. I also liked the poems & scriptures at the beginning if every capture that I felt were a nice touch. My biggest gripe was all the errors w which are so common in ebooks.
This has languished on my TBR pile for FAR too long and I am happy to have finally read it. I really enjoyed this historical mystery/romance. I loved Nicholas! Talk about a swoon worthy gentleman. I think I'll be claiming him as a "book boyfriend!" He is all parts strong and protective and the way he calls Tori "Princess" was my favorite! Looking forward to Ian's and Zach's stories.
I received this book from the author and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
True Nobility is one of the most descriptive and fascinating books that I have read in a long time. The characters are so believable and real that I felt I could be living among them and could easily relate. The plot was dramatic at times, intense at times, and funny at times; but never boring!
Awesome Read! The story line kept me interested, the twist and turns were very intriguing and the ending was great! This is a good clean read that I totally recommend!! I will most definitely read more of Lori's books!
Hard to put down! Fast paced with historical aspects well reached. Characters are vivid. Thanks for an enjoyable read.
Hard to put down! Fast paced with historical aspects well researched. Characters are vivid. Christian points well illustrated. Thanks for an enjoyable read.
My title is wow as I adored this book. I'm new to this author but so glad I took this plunge not your typical regency type romance with cliche plots. Keep writing this was splendid.
Hard to get invested in characters and plot lines that are so similar to every other romance out there. Sentence structure was so basic it felt like I was reading a kids story. Grammatical and punctuation errors were constant. Killed a few hours though.
There is nothing I didn't LOVE about this audiobook! The narration was perfect! The story inspiring, mysterious, hilarious, entertaining, suspenseful, surprising, and I could go on and on!
I would highly recommend this book. Loved the characters Nicholas and Victoria. Of course I I've any setting in Savannah,Ga. I will be reading the next book.
I found the heroine relatable. And the hero stole my heart. The story is gripping. I got a copy of the audio book from the narrator and this is my honest and voluntary review.
