Logan Am I falling for my enemy... a straight man?
He's my opponent in the courtroom. He defends the same scumbag criminals I'm trying to put away. Plus he's my rival in the New York City Marathon. We're training for a competition between our firms. And, unlike me, he's not even gay. So, why do I find myself so damn attracted to him? His cocky swagger and alpha attitude drive me crazy. But I'm starting to have as much fun running with him as arguing against him. I want to show him what other oral skills I possess.
Could there be room in our completely opposite worlds... for each other?
Andrew Am I falling for my enemy... a gay man?
My whole life, I've done everything right. Now I'm a big time criminal defense attorney. But sometimes everything I'm living seems like a lie. I can't figure out why I'm so attracted to my opposing counsel, Logan. I've never felt such feelings for another man before. He's handsome, athletic and intelligent. I try to tell myself I just want to beat him in court and on the race path. But deep down I know I want him to take me to the bedroom. That would ruin my career, and life as I know it.
If I let the real me come out for him, will love destroy us or strengthen us?
Opposing Briefs is an opposites attract, enemies to lovers, coming out/ out for you steamy male/male romance. A full length standalone novel of over 50,000 words with no cliffhanger, it combines humor, heat, heart, and a very happy ever after.
Wowwww is this bad!! Thankfully I got this for free during one of those stuff your kindle events because this one is awful. Logan and Andrew are lawyers on opposing sides and have always been at each other’s throats. Logan is the DA for the state and hates that Andrew defends people who deserve to go to jail. This started out interesting enough but then it got worse and worse. Andrew won his case and while at his celebratory dinner, we learn how much he hates his life because he always has to go along with everyone else’s choices and that included the firm he works at, how he was raised, marrying his wife etc. His wife is portrayed as a money hungry horrible person who snaps at the waiter and yells at Andrew in front of his boss and I’m so over the “horrible wife/girlfriend” as the pretense for someone becoming interested in someone else because it’s almost always used to make excuses for cheating. And sure enough one chapter later, Andrew who has always identified as straight runs into Logan in the park and kisses him. He’s never felt like this about a man before blah blah fucking blah yet runs away two seconds later.
Somehow these two become acquaintances as Logan helps Andrew come to terms with himself and at 37% when these two have barely spent any time together and know close to nothing about each other except for sharing one kiss and Andrew mentioning he’s confused, Andrew tells Logan he’s madly in love with him and they proceed to make out on the couch.
Umm I must have missed something? Way too fast and doesn’t make any sense. Add in the cheating, the fact neither character interests me at all and the dismal writing and I’m out. So glad it was a freebie! Delete!
It started okay, but stopped being interesting very soon. There wasnt really a built up to the characters and so i didnt see the attraction. And after Andrew coming to Logans appartment for the first time it all felt emotionally very dramatic and untrue. It’s a shame really, ‘cause the idea of the story is nothing wrong with. Stopped reading halfway.
Logan can’t stand Andrew but that doesn’t stop him from finding the man attractive. And, to make things worse Andrew seems to have taken a liking to Logan...Andrew is straight and married but he can’t deny these confusing feelings that overtake him when he sees or thinks about Logan.
This had a strong start but took a huge nosedive just a couple pages in. I loved their initial interaction — it was snarky, flirty and full of tension. But, that didn’t last....things went too fast in my opinion. There was so push and pull or slow and steady...and that bothered me. I wasn’t at all invested in them or their hea — i should’ve just dropped it but I wanted to see it through.
If you don’t mind insta feelings and a messy relationship then you’d probably enjoy this. The plot IS good so it might work better for others!
I haven't actually read this one: the ad copy is enough for me. The clients of criminal defense lawyers are not "scumbag criminals," they're people accused of crimes and they are legally and morally entitled to defense. Very, very few even of those who are actually guilty deserve the label "scumbag."
This. Was. Adorable. I got the feels. I felt horrible for Andrew because he wasn’t a bad guy at all just confused. I loved the no nonsense “drama” Logan stuck by him through thick and thin. I don’t get the low ratings. It was a terrific read.

Instalove dual point of view Standalone Andrew and Logan are opposing counsel and leading opposite lives - one married representing white collar criminals and the other out, proud and defending the downtrodden. When Andrew develops feelings for Logan will his wife and career keep him from moving forward. I had high hopes for the storyline as the author depicted it, but it didn’t deliver. There was no development of their relationship over their legal interactions or their race training - it was basically one awkward flirtation and then declarations of love. They also did the shortest training runs for a marathon ever!! There is a real need for an editor - commas (eg Pleased to meet you, Andrew vs Pleased to meet you Andrew), spelling Ow vs Owe, character names and thoughts were confused, title case issues, characters that were introduced and then disappeared, characters introduced to each other twice (Andrew and Brooke), etc. Warning: Cheating is rampant
I'm not into angsty reads but I do need relationship development. There's no real enemies here...one lost court case...followed by an unexpected kiss...then an I love you during their first real conversation. Then comes a dirty secret dating which is not dating, no time together, dinners, conversation, snuggles while watching a movie...nope none but there is a hook up or two. Then they are boyfriends..but one is married? . All this within days! Okay a few more days, previously closeted married guy is kissing his secret boyfriend in public.. knowing a PI is likely following him. Too too much, I just can't. But the real clincher for me is these 2 are high powered attorneys and not once is a discrimination suit thought of when Andrew loses his job for being gay. Andrew was such a wuss! Or Logan, a DA never considered assault charges when he is intentionally tripped and mocked which resulted in a broken leg...needing surgery? Too fairy tale middle school stuff for me.
I pretty much lost all respect for both characters in the beginning of the book when they each decided that they were ok with Andrew cheating on his wife with Logan. I didn't buy Logan being so passionate about the immorality of abusing the law to get more money, and yet be perfectly fine with someone who is willing to break his vows to his spouse.
Then, on top of that, Andrew's declaration of love was WAY too premature unless there was a significant amount of personal interaction between these characters that we just didn't see. Logan's thoughts often talked about how impressed with Andrew's growth he was, but I really didn't see any strong indication of it.
Overall, I thought that the blurb showed real potential for something interesting, but the reality fell far short.
Logan works for the DA's office, and he's often in court opposite Andrew, a high-profile defense attorney. He doesn't like Andrew, but he can't help being attracted to him. Never mind that Andrew is straight...and married. As for Andrew, he's always done what's expected of him, from marrying the pretty girl to becoming an attorney. He shouldn't be attracted to Logan, but he can't stop thinking about him. When Logan and Andrew begin training together for the NYC marathon, they find that they have more in common than they'd thought. As attraction between them blossoms, Andrew has to decide if pursuing a relationship with Logan is worth the inevitable fallout.
The story was told in first person pov, but it alternated between Logan and Andrew. I liked it in this instance, because it allowed the reader to get inside each man's head. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Andrew, basically living his life for everyone but himself. Secondary characters were likable, as well, with the exception of Andrew's wife and his boss. What horrid excuses for humans!
A few, minor things did bother me... If Andrew's wife threatened him she was going to hire a detective to find out whom he was seeing behind her back, why would he not be a tad more discreet? Since Logan and Andrew are both attorneys, why did neither of them sue when A) Andrew's boss pushed Logan, causing him to fall and injure himself, and B) when the same jerk fired Andrew for coming out as gay? That made no sense. Also, one would think the private detective would be discreet about his private detecting, but he got all up in Logan and Andrew's hamster ball to take a photo of them...while using a flash?!
Eh, all minor, and none of them detracted from the overall story. Good book, four stars.

Self-acceptance (well, the story is perhaps less philosophical than that, but that's what it's about) Excellent description, very well written, of a man who discovers or rediscovers that he has lived in a lie since childhood and is homosexual and non-heterosexual. This book reminded me of the song of the group "Shaka Ponk" "Twisted Mind": when a man realizes that he is in love with another man, that he thinks he's irrational, that his whole life is going to be turned upside down, but finally, shouldn't he be happy rather than to suffer from not being himself? If we add to that an intolerant family, a shrewish woman, greedy for money, a homophobic boss, the relationship that begins to live Andrew quickly becomes complicated. Andrew is a lawyer in a big New York firm and is attracted by one of the assistansts of the public prosecutor (Logan) who is gay. He struggles with himself before attempting an approach because he knows he has a lot to lose if he tries to find out if he has not lied to himself all his life about his sexuality. In short, a very good romance that I devoured in a few hours. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I love this author’s stories. He brings so much emotion to them that once I pick it up, I can’t set it down. The stories bring out the tears, laughter and temper in me. Logan is such a well rounded personality and I just had to like him. Andrew made me sad mostly. The guy spent a lot of years being unhappy and I hated that he didn’t seem to find anyone to even be friends with until Logan. I just wanted someone to stand up for him and protect him. The way these two get together seemed like a disaster in the making but the author found a way to put a number of situations together. I really enjoyed Matt and hope he gets his own story. Wyatt and Marie are people I’d like to watch karma attend to. Maybe they will appear somewhere again in a soup line! I had hoped that after the marathon Wyatt and associates would show up in jail. Overall I really enjoyed this book and hated to see it end. The ending was done so well I was not left with questions. I hope to read the more with these characters and can’t wait for the next story from this author.
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of lawyers Logan and Andrew who were enemies in the courtroom. Andrew worked as a defense lawyer and Logan worked as a prosecutor. When Andrew won a case, Logan was disappointed, but he still thought Andrew was attractive and wished things could be different. Andrew was married and came from a wealthy family. Andrew's wife was miserable to him and was only interested in his money. Andrew was set to become partners at the law firm he worked at, but the boss was extremely homophobic. When Andrew and Logan began training for a marathon for charity, they crossed paths. Logan tried to keep his distance, but Andrew kept approaching him. Andrew was attracted to Logan and wanted to be with him. Logan wanted Andrew to leave his wife and be with him, but Andrew was unsure if he could. i loved this story and thought Andrew was such a good guy who wanted to be happy, but was scared as to what anyone would think. Logan was in love with Andrew and was willing to support him through anything. Good one.
3 stars for Opposing Briefs by Ian Finn. This is my first book from this author, and I would read more from this author. Logan works for the DA’s office and Andrew is a defense attorney. They couldn’t be more different. Logan cares about other people more than himself where it seems Andrew is only worried about how much money he can make and the image he puts forward. Another difference between them is Logan is gay where as Andrew is married to his wife. Andrew has always done what everyone expected him to do, somehow, he lost himself along the way. Things start to change for Andrew when he feels this attraction to Logan. He has never felt an attraction to a man before and he has no idea how to handle this. Logan is attracted to Andrew but knows he isn’t gay and feels they are extremely different. What happens when Andrew is ready to act on his feelings. I enjoyed this book and felt it had a deeper meaning than just being a romance. This book was more about accepting your self for who you really are. This book was an okay read.
If you're looking for a steamy romance novel with plenty of tension and drama, "Opposing Briefs" by Ian Finn is the perfect choice. The story follows Logan and Andrew, two opposing lawyers who find themselves drawn to each other despite their professional rivalry. As they work together on a high-stakes case, their attraction grows stronger, but their conflicting interests threaten to tear them apart. Finn does an excellent job of creating complex, multifaceted characters in Logan and Andrew. They both have their flaws and vulnerabilities, but they are also incredibly passionate and driven. The chemistry between them practically sizzles off the page, and you'll find yourself rooting for them to overcome their differences and find a way to be together. Overall, "Opposing Briefs" is a well-written, engaging novel that will keep you hooked from beginning to end. Whether you're a fan of steamy romance or legal dramas, this book is sure to satisfy. Happy Reading...enjoy!
Firstly this story went from sublime to ridiculous very quickly. There was no build up to the relationships. Secondly: there was cheating which involved the main characters which was normalised. Thirdly: the main characters appeared weak and dis-empowered and considering their profession ?. Finally : For book that has been written in 2019 it's depiction is very 19th century. For example Andrew who is a lawyer in the NY was called derogatory names and sacked by his boss and he did no sue him. Matt who is also a prosecutor was deliberately tripped and as a result he broke his leg and nobody was sued . How unrealistic is that? Ian this book had potential hence the 2 stars but your portrayal of the main characters spoilt it.

It's hard when you think your dream guy is unobtainable. That's Logan's problem, he's falling for Andrew, who for all he knows is straight. Andrew has always done everything that's been expected of him by everyone but himself, now he's finding that he's attracted to Logan and doesn't have any idea how to handle it. I can in some ways sympathize with Andrew and coming out late in life but having to deal with a controlling wife and homophobic boss on top of realizing that you've lived your life for others and appearances is something else entirely. That these two find each other and a way forward makes for a great romance and a very enjoyable read.
This book is exceptionel. It has scorching descriptions and well-developed ideas. This is a really emotional, suspenceful, romantic and hot read that pulled me in from the beginning and didn't let me go until the end. The mix of humor, sadness, hot scenes, passion, pain, trust, emotional ups and downs makes it worth the read. The unexpected twists are welcomed. The book is fast-paced, the writing is fluid and easily read in one sitting. It is a standalone book with no cliffhangers and a HEA. I voluntairly reviewed an ARC of this book.
This was a good story with great characters. It was well written and kept my attention. Logan and Andrew were perfect together but had some things stacked against them. There were some twists, too. Could they make it work? I recommend reading to find out. I also enjoyed the secondary characters, Logan and Andrew's friends. *I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest review.*
I loved this sweet story of Andrew and Logan! It was such a great read that I could not put it down! The fear of being vulnerable is terrifying, but that's risk you take when you realize that you're in love! To know that you aren't alone in this life, that there is somebody to hold you up when you cant even stand on your own. Its the most beautiful thing in the world!
This book filled me up with bliss. It was just so heartfelt and heartwarming. They really deserved the happiness that they ended up getting together. Wasn’t M* just an absolute bitch? I love how the judge gave her the talking to that she deserved and finally put her in her place. That is honestly what I wanted to tell her all throughout. I am so glad you put it out of my head and on the page. -Kaisy
Read as part of Oral Persuasion. An interesting story of two lawyers who have to make some changes in their lives. Andrew has the biggest change to make as he goes from being married and close to becoming partner at the law firm where he works to following is heart. It's not simple but Logan is there to help him. The descriptive style of writing I found distracting and at times annoying. It stopped the natural flow of the scene more than once.
Literally enemies (well district attorney versus lawyer shark) to lovers
Logan is happy but not rich, trying to punish the bad guys. Andrew is successful, wealthy, defender of society’s morally bankrupt and completely miserable. When Andrew suddenly realises what Logan means to him, life is never the same again, but in a good way. The HFN is always on the horizon, and a year later, it’s a HEA.
This is a new author to me and I was very excited to start Opposing Briefs when reading the blurb. Andrew and Logan are two very strong characters ending up by bringing out the best of each other . They had me hooked from the first page by the depth of their characters and I loved the way this book was written .Definitely will be keeping my eye out for more books by Ian Finn .
Two lawyers, two whole different approaches to law practice. Logan works with the DA gay and proud, and Andrew is a straight married lawyer who defends criminals. So different but one similarity will bring them together and pow! Love knows no legal boundaries. Entertaining and fun enemies to lovers romance.
Andrew is working toward a partnership in his law firm defending white collar criminals. Logan is an Assistant District Attorney defending the little people. Andrew’s marriage is a farce and he’s miserable. Now he’s beginning to feel sparks with the ADA. Can they become friends and more? Recommend.
Great story. Logan a gay attorney falls for his arch nemesis in the court room and visa versa, except they are not. So starts an enjoyable set of books where two men else aside their stubbornness and fall in love and in doing so start lay a foundation not only for themselves but fir others to follow. Read it and enjoy.
I very excited to read this book after seeing the synopsis. However, it was poorly written. The characters were lackluster. There was also no character or plot development. Also if cheating is a trigger or dealbreaker for you, do not read this book.
This is a beautiful story of coming out and coming into one's self. A true story of finding strenght to be yourself and stand up for yourself. And most of all stand up for the one that you love the most. A great emotional read with a lot of heart and a great dose of sexiness.
