Turning into a wolverine was fascinating.  It would be better if she could take notes while in wolverine form though.

Affected by the strange event sweeping the Earth, Cassandra Borden decides to keep this new ability secret.  None of her family has changed, and it isn’t all that relevant to her life, though fascinating.

Trying to get a new discovery recognized, something that could save lives, seemed much more important. Though her sister would call her dull, Cass loved what she discovered in her job as a scientist. Stymied by political maneuvering she throws herself into making sure her discoveries are published and patented.

Being kidnapped in her parking lot and then waking up in a jungle with four other naked people is not what she had planned.  Discovering what they need to do and the cost to her loved ones if she doesn’t?  Cass will have to decide exactly what she can handle, otherwise her death might be the first.

Shifter series

Aliens caused some first generation shifting and they are coming as military slavers. This book uses characters from previous books plus research scientist wolverine.
Proves heroes can be unique. Vine weaving, shelter digging, snake fighting, romance reading brilliant woman.

2023 bk 154. Of the shorts - this was the one that most needed to be woven into the other novels, it just didn't gel as a stand alone for me. I liked learning about Cass and her achievements and decisions, but it needed to be elsewhere.

A short novella, prequel to the second book of the Chronicles.

Adding all those novellas plays hell with the numbering. But even if they're peripheral, they give you lots of background information about the Kaylid, so they're pretty much mandatory reading if you intend to follow the series.

My biggest beef is that it's basically more or less the same plot, with different characters and setup than the first novella. I would have appreciated a different path to get Cass into the position she gets roped in the second book. I also wish the build-up for the familial conflict was not completely wasted. Still mostly ok.

Back story of Cassandra

This back story of a character introduced in the prior book seems like a filler . I've been waiting for the actual invasion and was disappointed to find out if wasn't what I thought it would be. So I am still anxiously awaiting the next book.
