A decade ago, twenty-six Towers of unknown origin rocketed into the Earth, destroying almost everything in an event known as “The Impact.” Most of the remaining population slowly began to change, their minds altered to conform to the will of strange creatures that stood atop the mysterious structures. Humanity began to turn on itself and these brain-washed individuals became known as Red Eyes. Now, ten years later, Sam, Alex, and Luna trek across a ruined world, searching for a man they believe is responsible for it all - a man named Empire, a man no one can seem to kill. But time is running out. The Towers are stirring once more. What is their purpose? Where did they come from? Who is Empire? And what is the Last Tower?
This one hit me hard. The relationship between the 2 brothers in this story bore a striking resemblance to the relationship that I have with my own brother, and it got to the point where it almost felt uncomfortable to read at times. As silly as it sounds, reading this book made me want to bury the hatchet with my brother and begin to re-build our relationship.
For that reason alone I wanted to give this book 4 stars, but unfortunately the lore/world building in this story was just too bizarre and strange for me and the author kinda fumbled on the ending. Despite that, I'd still have to say that I had a great time reading this.
Witherow is great at building worlds with vivid descriptions. I've enjoyed everything I've read from Witherow so far, but it was refreshing to read a story of his that wasn't told in first person. This is a great apocalyptic dark fantasy that has me determined to read more of the worlds Elias Witherow creates.
I have no words, this book is amazing. I have been going through Elias's books, they dont stop being amazing. Great story telling, easy to read. I am not a great book reviewer. Honestly if you like books about the end of the world and human misery and evil, well, here you go. And yes we "deserved it," you will understand when you read it. :)
