ith her ailing aunt in need of care and companionship, Saraid Garwich moves to her family’s forest estate. She’d never liked visiting as a child. She hated camping or anything to do with bugs, getting dirty, and not having the comforts of modern living. Something about the forest had always seemed dangerous. When one night during a fever dream, her aunt tells her that her destiny lies within the heart of the woods, Saraid promises her aunt she’ll go. When she does, she sees something she never thought possible: a man turning into a centaur. More surprisingly, the man is Keilan, her aunt’s groundskeeper. She thinks both of them are crazy and makes plans to return to her life in New York. Except she can’t get the centaur, or the man, out of her mind. And with each passing day, it’s becoming harder and harder to leave.
Keilan Ceffyl needs to find his mate. His family has lived in the secret woods, one of the last vestiges of magic, for generations. When Saraid comes to tend to her ailing aunt, her destiny becomes intertwined with his. She needs to become the Guardian and accept her destiny as his mate. Without her, both of their lines will end and the consequences for the worlds of magic and of man, will be devastating. But how can he convince a pampered city girl that living and loving through the forest will save them both?
Mary commutes between her dream home near the Mark Twain national forest in Missouri and her current residence in Iowa. She lives with a menagerie of animals including an opinionated horse and a cat who was a dog in past life. When not writing spicy tales of erotic romance, she enjoys writing science fiction and fantasy, spending time with her horse, and enjoying the outdoors. Lucky for her, her partner (hero) shares these same passions, and usually both of them can be found in their respective dens writing.
And it’s not far from the truth. Mary began writing in high school after she discovered Silhouette Desire romance novels and realized that she wanted to be the one to write stories that carried readers away from their oh-so-boring lives. She has a deep appreciation and love of the natural, the spirtual, and the metaphysical, which has led to her running Jupiter Gardens and writing for new age and pagan magazines. She is attuned to Reiki II and reads tarot cards.
Right now her household includes six cats, ranging in age from less than six months (Tenzin, former feral kitten) to seventeen years (Tigger, diabetic kitty), her horse, two parrots, a finch flight, a geriatric parakeet flight, and her partner, the hero of her own personal romance story.
Her favorite television shows are Torchwood, Bones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dr. Who (new), Battlestar Galactica (new), Babylon 5, Farscape, and Sex in the City. Her favorite movies are Spaceballs, The Cutting Edge, Serenity, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, the LoTR trilogy, and probably a few others she’s forgetting. Her musical tastes range from Enya, Clannad, David Arkenstone, David & Steve Gordon, Scott McDonald, and AfroCelt Sound System to Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, and others.
I liked it. The characters were well rounded with a good story line. Real page turner! I absolutely loved it. This book is amazing. I would suggest this to anyone looking for a great romance novel and love for reading!!!

The plot of this book was well developed and enjoyable. There’s hate love and drama and steam to it before the characters get there happy ever after or do they. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book via Booksprout.
Saraid looked at the woods and shivered at the memory of getting lost as a child and the groundskeeper’s son having to lead her home. She feared those woods, but she loved her Aunt Aislyn who was currently dying. She had always told Saraid stories of centaurs running through the woods and magic. She wished she could listen to a story now, but her aunt was too weak.
Keilan, the groundskeeper, was standing in the archway of the sitting room and it startled her when she turned around. He had wanted to talk with Aunt Aislyn about the spring flowers, even though she may not be here then. But he knew is calmed her to talk about them. Saraid invited him to come for dinner when Aunt Aislyn would be awake. When Saraid sat by Aislyn’s bed later, her aunt said they made a nice couple.
Saraid wasn’t tired, so she went to look through the books. The leather-bound books seemed to call to her, and she saw that they talked about guardians, portals, and centaurs. The first line caught her attention, as it said, “To all of those of my line with the calling…” and she felt herself shiver. But she settled in to read the fascinating book. She had a dream about a stone arch that Keilan said was a portal which he and his father came through. When her aunt died, she would have to take up her role as Guardian of the forest which was a magical place. He would be hers; then his form shimmered into a centaur! He told her to quickly find the green leather book. When she awoke, her aunt was calling her and was burning up with fever. The stories her aunt had always told her were actually true, and the time is quickly coming for Saraid to overcome her fear of the woods to accept her duties as Guardian. Can she do that? Will she accept Keilan as her mate, as it was also destined? If she cannot, the magical connection will be severed.
This is a good story that brings what seemed to be a myth to life for Saraid. She will have difficult choices to make, and little time now to make those choices. What will she decide? Get your copy and see if she can live up to her potential or let her fears overcome her!
A secret woods, a dying aunt and a destined mate have turned Saraid's world upside down. Not only is she to replace her aunt as guardian of the magical woods and portal, but she must do it as Keilan's mate. And he is not of this world, but a real live shape-shifting centaur. As a young girl, Saraid got lost in these woods, but Keilan led her home. Now it is her turn to save Keilan after a vicious attack leaves him severely wounded, but her fear of the deep, dark wood is only the first obstacle she must battle. This is the first zodiac shifters story I read. It captures the loneliness of a young girl enchanted by the fairy tales told by her aunt , captivated by that other world of magic, and her disbelief that that world is not only real but she will become the new guardian. Beautifully crafted. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is my 1st read and review for this author I also bought this book on another site and it’s a fantastic story. Saraid found out that her aunt was dying so she goes back to Wales to help look after her. Her aunt told her stories when she was younger about the Centaur’s everywhere in the woods and Saraid loved her stories, but she is afraid of the woods because when she was little she got lost. Her aunt tells her that she must take over being the guardian and it involves her going into the woods but little does she know that she will find her mate in there. This is such a fantastic zodiac story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
Saraid has come to the forest to care for her aunt. Saraid hates everything about the woods...the bugs, the dirt, well everything. But her aunt insists her destiny is within the forest. So she goes into the woods and there sees a man turn into a centaur and not just any man but her aunt;s groundskeeper. Oh heck no! Not her cup of tea and not her problem. As soon as she can she;s going to be out of there. Unfortunately life isn;t always that easy. Saraid comes to learn that life takes turns that will draw you deeper in and not out. Fantastic story and read!!!

I enjoyed this shifter story with great characters, romance and intrigue. Her aunt lived by the forest and was now dying. She went to help out and found out that her aunt was a guardian and she would be the guardian her auntndied. Also, the guy that tended the land was her mate and they had to do a ritual to cement everything. There was danger from an uncle, but the ending was great. A magical realm of centaurs, oracle's and shifters exist. A land of which there is a guardian, a human female who has to accept the mantle of the guardian and marry her mate a centaur.
Together the 2 form a link that joins both the realms to stay connected.
But mix it up with a guardian who never knew what she was, a dying guardian who hasn't got much time to impart knowledge, a jealous man who seeks to destroy the portal, you have a power packed story.

She comes home to take care of a dying aunt. But finds out the world there is not always what it seems and her life is expected to be much more than she knows. He has known about her since she was little but waits for her. This has a lot of excitement, suspense, drama, intrigue and so much more. I love these zodiac paranormal romances. Awesome reads. This is my first book by Mary Winter and I picked it up on a whim. For a short story it was not bad. The characters of Keilan and Saraid were developed enough for a novella. The story line was compact but fairly well written.
I will have to checkout if she has any full length stories to get a true test of a story writing skills.

This is the first zodiac shifters book I've read and it is great! The Centaur's Mate begins with Saraid coming home to care for her dying aunt Aislyn. Keilan is the groundskeeper and looks in on her aunt all the time, he also found Saraid lost in the forest when she was a child. The characters are lovable and the storyline flows well with magic, mates, shifters, mystery and love. I must read short story.

While this author is new to me, this series is not. It was a pleasure to read and with a mystery and action I couldn't stop reading to the very last page. Being a Sagittarian, I loved reading about the handsome Centaur. I could picture his mane and tail and the large muscular chest. See him reading. I look forward to reading more from both the author and this series.

My introduction to the zodiac shifters world and the first being the centaurs. The centaurs are mythical beings and it’s quite curious how their world is depicted here. The story is short and simple but I liked it. Made me a tad curious about them.

Why does the forest scare her. You’ll have to find out. It’s an outstanding read and very well written. I recieved a copy via Booksprout and this is my honest review
Her Aunt is dying, and the guy that works around the property is hot and there's a connection. Then one night she finds a green leather bound journal and her life is turned upside down. She finds out that her Aunt is a guardian of a portal and that hotty is actually a Centaur and her mate.
From her family's past, her lost Uncle slinks out of the shadows having been born a "normal" rather than Centaur like the other men in the family. While his sister dies naturally due to health complications. Her Uncle tries to first kill her mate, and then attempts to kill her twice to destroy the portal between this world and that of magic.
I am definitely going to be buying this book as soon as I possible can!

First book I've read from this author. Saraid has come to help take care of her Aunt Aislyn. Saraid got lost in the woods when she was younger but the groundskeepers son lead her back home. Her Aunt is dying and time is growing short. Keilan, the groundskeeper, has been close to her aunt and Saraid has always felt something for Keilan but never pursued it. This story has plenty of adventure, action, mystery, suspense, danger, and steamy love. Also Keilan shows Saraid that he is a Centaurs shifter and also her mate. No more spoilers. This is an exciting story and you will want to finish it in one sitting. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Overall, this was a decent book. I loved the premise and the foundations are that could make this into a book I would love. But it felt as though a lot of the plot was rushed. Saraid accepts her new world and falls into line with what should happen a little too easily and the conflict of the story didn't seem to have more than a vague presence until roughly the halfway point. I think that if the story was fleshed out a bit more in an extended version that it could be an amazing story.
