Émilie Saint-Just is an ordinary French girl in the year 1558, whose fervent desire is to serve King, Queen and Country. Chosen as a Lady-in-Waiting to Mary Queen of Scots, Émilie fulfils her duties with grace and diligence, earning her the admiration and close friendship of the Royals, as well as the ire of the other Ladies, and a vicious envy from one in particular, Marguerite; a witch and practitioner of the dark arts.
Cursed on her death bed, to a fate of death and rebirth, ad infinitum, by the witch Marguerite, Émilie, instead of slipping into eternal life, slips into a new life, in a new place.
As Marguerite’s potent curse persists, Émilie, as she first was, lives on throughout the centuries; each life filled with immeasurable pain and sadness, with only the occasional joy and triumph.
As she finds herself reborn in the modern era, with a renewed hope of breaking the bonds of her eternal tormentor; in the race against time, her demise ever present in her mind, and the possibility of a new life on the horizon, Émilie decides on a course of action to finally free herself from her eternal time trap, but can the plan really work?
This was so good! I usually stick to thrillers & YA fantasy/sci fi but once I read the blurb I knew I had to read this book. It was the perfect blend of history, magic and time travel. The time periods were vividly described and it took us through some really interesting major events through out history, the story didn't feel stagnant. I liked the characters and the author's writing style was clear and easy to follow.
I hope there will be a book two because there are still several questions I NEED the answer to...not in a cliffhanger way thank goodness 😅 Hoping to hear something about it soon.
