DNF 35%

Man, I was having a good 2 weeks :(

I really try to make it through books. I rarely pull a DNF...but sometimes a readers' gotta do what a readers' gotta do.

Problems I had with this book:

- typos (such as not adding "s's" to make words plural, some missing words etc.) and overall sentence structure (things did not" flow" very well at times.) Also, in some cases the dialogue went from present tense to past tense (no, I'm not referring to the chapters that are intentionally written in the past, either.)
However...I've read books with much worse typos and errors so it wasn't a killer for me.
And what I noticed wasn't overwhelming.
So, most people won't be bothered at all.

The real problems I had came down to the characters.

London- she has never been alone before. She went from one abusive relationship, then to a guy who cheated on her with her best friend...and now onto Kadin.
She wasn't a strong heroine at all!. Not only was I unable to relate to her (which happens) but, I just couldn't understand where she was coming from or her thought process. Especially after being with someone for 6 years- catching him cheating on you with your bf (she catches them fucking at the bar he owns) and neverrrrr even confronting them??!!!
She just puts the coffee down and leaves.

What??!!

Ugh...not to mention, she jumps right into bed with kadin the first night she stays with him (very little build up btw. Like zero sexual tension. It literally just happens. ) and they don't use protection.
However; she has a moment of clarity- "Gee,I should get tested for STD's having unprotected sex with someone I just met wasn't smart." (Not to mention my ex cheating on me for God only knows how long..)
BUT, that moment of clarity is short lived because she proceeds to continue having unprotected sex with Kaiden and we get to hear allllll about the evidence of it dripping down her legs constantly; combined with her thinking over and over and over again - "Gee, I can't believe we had unprotected sex again. That's bad"

Yeah, no shit Sherlock.

Aside from that doh-doh bird...we have Kaiden. He lost his wife almost 2 years ago and has come to the cabin to commit suicide.

However...after 48 hours with London...it's all starting to turn around for him.

Yeah ladies and gents the "Instant love" is on freaking crack in this book.

Literally after just a mere 48 hours together- she's proclaiming (in her head) that's she's "cured" of all her insecurities and has (these are her words) "healed completely from every wrong that I've suffered. I am whole. I am complete."

Which brings me to my next annoyance.
- Both of them (clearly) have these sudden deep, over the top angsty feelings for one another.
But instead of coming right out and saying it, like grown ups- they constantly internalize their true feelings (so we're stuck having to hear all about it) all while denying their real feelings to one another when they do actually speak (you know, when they're not having mediocre bunny sex.)

So in conclusion ...those are just some of the reasons why I have chosen to DNF this book at 35%

I simply don't have time for this shit.

And p.s- the cover sucks.

My Rating:

4.5

Favorite Quotes:

“Your scars, they make you beautifully flawed. They make you perfect.”

“Tears of happiness stream down my face as this man tells me exactly what I never knew that I needed to hear.”

“Never doubt that this is right where I want to be,”

“Promise me…Promise me I’m enough for you.”

My Review:

Love Me Like That is an angsty, heart squeezing, and poignant read with occasional hits of humor and generous helpings of volcanically hot sensuality. My kindle was sizzling while two broken people find and ultimately save each other - literally and figuratively. The characters are deeply flawed yet extremely likable, and the intriguing story line covers a cornucopia of modern day issues. Marie James has earned a permanent spot on my favorites list.

I am so great full to have been blessed to get my filthy paws on this book!! Marie is so great at what she does and I am glad to have been introduced to her writing and her characters! London has been through hell, Kadin is all sorts of avoiding! Super detail to make this come together as well as it has, and enough to keep you wondering what's next. I really enjoyed this story and I truly can not wait to read more of Marie!!

London and Kadin are two strangers that are thrown together and trapped in a cabin during a snowstorm. Kadin is on a forced vacation from his office after being a complete mess after the death of his wife. It's been over a year since Savannah died in a car accident and Kadin drinks himself to death and goes to work drunk, now he is forced to get his crap together or leave.

Kadin has a plan in mind and nothing will detour him from his completion. UNTIL London avoids a moose encounter and crashes her mini Cooper in a ditch.

Kadin being the sweet man he is even in his miserable state cannot leave London trapped in her car in the middle of a snowstorm.

So he rescues London from the storm and offers up his guest room. Upon being stuck together they become friends and learn each other's stories and how they came to be at this point in their lives. I

This is a sweet romance that deals with some hard issues but is ultimately about two people with different stories and how they came to this exact moment together.

Can you LOVE ME LIKE THAT?

I've seen the cover of this book everywhere recently. "Love Me Like That." I wondered about the content, the story, the hype. Two broken people, Kadin and London, brought together unexpectedly when a hulk of a moose takes up her roadway, followed then by a snowstorm, Kadin brings her to his cabin where they hunker down under winter's grip. London's on the run again after she's betrayed by the only two people she's let into her already broken life. Kadin is contemplating his deep pain and loss and what finally do about it. The contents of his desk drawer call to him, but will he open it? Will she respond to the texts and voicemails of those who destroyed her?

Their pain and need for comfort caused them to reach out. It was a mistake, each admitted openly, but their conscience cheered them on for taking action. He confides he still loves his wife; he has no room for another in his heart. Her life is a string of bad decisions. Over the course of a few short days, they explore each others body, recount their desperate circumstances, they bare their pain and loss, their very souls. Despite their professed issues and the way they've dealt with them, the tenderness they show each other speaks not so much of their pain, but what they really do have remaining to give.

"I think it was Wednesday evening while making out on the couch after ignoring the hockey game that I realized I was falling in love with him. He’d looked at me, for the first time since I crashed into his life two weeks earlier, like I was the only thing in his world that he could see. He’d stroked my cheek, and I got lost in eyes that said a slew of things that had never crossed his lips. That night we made love for hours not once feeling the need to rush to completion. I was certain things were progressing in our relationship even though we weren’t giving a voice to it. I could feel it, and I was certain he could too."

But when a ghost-like image from the past comes calling, carrying a bottle of Jack, lies are told and actions too familiar are taken. How deep could feelings really be when time spent was so short?

First ever Marie James book and I'm a real fan!! The hype is well-deserved and this story is so well told. She throws in some surprises I never saw coming that always kept me guessing . . . would I get my HEA?

I am on the fence on this one. London catches her long time boyfriend banging her best friend. She runs away and is over and done. She gets stuck in a snow storm on the side of the road. Kaedin happens to be coming along at the same time going to his cabin in the woods. His last visit there. He offers to let London come with him because she will not make it stuck in her car on the side of the road. Once at his cabin things change. Both are running from things in their pasts. Will they be able to find a happiness together? What happens when you are stuck in a cabin with no power with a total stranger?

Soo good! Love this author her work keeps getting better and better. Once I started reading I could literally not put it down, consequently I did not sleep at all last night. That would not be a problem if I didn't have little kiddos that don't understand why mom is not quite right today. That being said loved the story and loved the characters.

Their paths should never have crossed, yet they did! London has not had great luck with men (and that's putting it mildly) and is moving on...only her travels end up with her in a ditch during a snow storm. Kadin has taken time to get his life in order (but not the order most expect) when a snow storm ends up giving him a roommate.

While I liked the characters and the steps they took to improve themselves, it just took me too long to believe in them as a couple. Sure I bought that they had chemistry, but it took almost to the end to be on board with them.

Loved the epilogue.

What ROCKED:
Grief-it is handled differently by everyone. It is defined as: deep sorrow, especially that which is caused by someone's death.

Love-it comes to us when we least expect it or want it. It is defined as: an intense feeling of deep affection.

Love Me Like That is a story about both.

Kadin Cole was lost, dark, and completely broken after the loss he experienced. He didn’t even want to live anymore. The day London came into his world, color began to color it. They had such an immediate connection. The problem was, Kadin wasn’t able to talk about his loss and this lead to a series of unfortunate events. Kadin was a man who loved with everything he had and held those he did close. He was convinced that he would never be able to find that type of love again. Events that pulled them apart, eventually helped Kadin see love in London. What I loved about Kadin, is that he was exactly how I imagine a man that loved and lost to be. It was so relatable and real, it felt like I knew him.

London Sykes had a very hard past. Especially when it came to men. She had only hoped for a getaway. When she crashed her car, she got way more than she bargained for. For London, she knew at that exact moment Kadin would change everything. What I loved the most about London was that she was so unguarded even after all the hurt she experienced. She was strong and knew how to say no. Not many people would be able to say that after all she had been through.
I loved the story because it wasn’t so straight forward. There are events that happen that make you think it will go one way, but Marie James just takes you the other. The story was original, and deals with some heavy issues that Ms. James does an exquisite job handling.

What I Boo-ed:
Simply, that it ended. I read this book a few weeks ago now, and I can’t stop thinking about it.

Overall:
This author has created a fan for life. This is a story that is more of an experience to be had. It hit a personal note in that my Mom lost my Dad some years ago. She was extremely lost and broken. She never found another love because her forever was with my dad, but she is not so broken anymore. Relatable characters in stories like these is huge in making a connection with me and it was instantaneous with this. Love Me Like That is such a beautiful, poignant story of how precious life is, how important love is, and the struggle to make it through your grief to find in another person what they see in you. MUST READ OF 2016.

When London Sykes walks in on her boyfriend of 6 years and her childhood best friend having sex, she doesn't yell at them. They don't even know she's there. She has no choice but to walk away from the only two people she had left in her life that she cares about. Now that she has no one, she packs her bag and heard out of state. But on her way to Spokane, she hits a snow storm that's not easily navigated in her beloved Mini Cooper and ends up in a ditch.

Kadin Cole has gone to his cabin to make a final decision. He's been struggling with his loss for the past eighteen months and is ready to not return to his former life. But when the storm comes in and he finds a beautiful green-eyed London in her car sitting the ditch, he invites her to stay in his cabin to ride it out.

These two have not had the best pasts individually and find themselves taking comfort in each other arms. But when the storm is over and Kadin invites London back to Spokane and into his everyday life, things don't quite work out as intended.

Kadin still has issues to work through. London has really never been on her own and not in a relationship since college and after her parent died. So when a past mistake comes pack and complicates things for Kadin, is it for the best? When London discovers that things have changed for her, will she tell Kadin?

They both have to do some work and soul searching individually before they can find their way back to each other, if that's even possible.

I really enjoyed this book. It was sad and sweet and some points difficult to read due to what happened to London. I believe that domestic violence issues are so important I loved how it was woven into this book.

I have to say that there is only one reason I'm not giving it a full 5 stars. I felt that at least the first quarter to half of the book was hugely internal conversation. I wasn't sure where it was going or if I was going to have to move on. The the story kicked in and I forgot all about how it started.

First Marie James read and won't be the last.

I'd like to start off by saying I received this as an ARC and here's my honest opinion. Overall I absolutely loved this book! I loved the characters and the depth they have; I loved the deep emotion and how real the characters are. At the very beginning I felt that the multiple series of events that took place were almost predictable. As if starting the book out with this amazing scene and you think oh how cute! Then when all of the crap goes down I kind of figured what was coming. With that being said, A lot of what happened in detail wasn't predictable and that is what was important.

After the first few chapters (which go by so quick!) there is not a single thing that was predictable. Marie made you work to find out what was coming next. I love a book that really challenges my brain. I want to be left thinking "WHAT THE HECK! WHAT DID YOU JUST DO!"

As a very emotional person I love how the emotions rolled throughout LMLT! I was angry, then sad, then laughing, then confused, then ecstatic. Everything you could want to feel, you felt. In addition to emotion and wonder I was left satisfied. I typically hate when a book ends, but Marie ended this novel so beautifully. It left you thinking but not upset with everyone. It wasn't abrupt and it satisfied a few curiosities with still keeping you on your toes. Bravo Marie on an amazing piece of work. I'm honored you let me read it!

Two Destinies Collide – yes they do.

Wow .. you talked about absolutely tormented characters .. you have them there and its heartbreaking.

London has been betrayed by the man she thought she loved. Not only by him but another person she held close to her heart since the second grade. Before Trent, she too was the only constant in her life. With nothing left she walks out without either of them seeing her but leaving a token letting them know she was there. Wasted time, hope .. everything is lost to her. The lies she believed that spewed from Trent’s mouth .. never will she ever allow herself to suffer such betrayal again.

Kadin has been forced out of town by his uncle and friends. He is supposed to be getting his shit together. He has everything in order to execute his plan he has. The cabin will serve its purpose for what he has in mind. The condo is in perfect condition to be sold after everything happens. Seeing the car in the ditch is NOT part of the plan and neither is she …

This read will have you trying to keep your heart beating inside your chest and not falling out onto the floor. I would call this read a beautiful disarray of battered souls.

Thank you for the ARC Marie James. This is a keeper and a definite you need to click it. Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.

Although I have almost all of Marie James books this is the first one I have read and I am now asking myself why in the world have i waited to read anything by her? Seriously this book had me from the beginning and I was hooked all the way to the end.

Kadin and London are perfect for one another. Each broken in their own ways and been through so much pain and heartache. I loved these characters and the connection i was able to make with them on an emotional level.

London has been through abuse and betrayal by her last 2 boyfriends and is now on her own. While getting away from the betrayal of her current ex she lands in a ditch and is saved by a man. That man being Kadin. Kadin is at the cabin with plans of never returning home but his plans are derailed when he meets London after she crashes into his life.

Things move at a rather fast pace with them and there were multiple times I could have smacked both of them upside the head had I been in the book. I caught myself gasping at a few turns in this book that I honestly never saw coming.

What happens when Kadin makes it back to the real world and takes London with? Can they continue with the connection they have made while at the cabin or will the pain that Kadin is running from be too much for him to let her in completely?

Absolutely loved this book. Ms. James does it again with an emotional filled story about a woman running from her past relationships and a man who just wants to end it all. London and Kadin complement each other so perfectly. Will she ever be able to trust another man again? Will he ever be able to love another as much as he did his wife?

Excellent book!! I can't believe I didn't get to this book sooner. Can't wait for Kegan's story.

This was my first book by the author. The synopsis sounded unique and gripping. I was very excited to read the book.
The story was very much a whirlwind of activity and mixed emotions. The characters had a lot of depth and I connected with both Kadin and London very fast. There story was messy but very beautiful.
London has had a very hard time suffering from abuse and betrayal. As she leaves for a new life, you can't help but want her to find a better life and move on from her past.
Luckily for her she ends up being rescued by Kadin. He lost the love of his life and has been in hiding since.
Both characters have a sad story that will bring tears to your eyes. The author really knew how to draw the emotions out if the characters and get it across to the reader.
The story does have its ups and downs as both characters try to move past their own darkness.
I enjoyed the tenderness of the story and how descriptive the author was with every thing in the book.

London and Kadin, what a story they have!

Some spoilers:

London finds out that her boyfriend, who had helped her pull her life together six years before, is being a deceitful jerk! So, she does what I would have liked to do! She packs up and leaves! Her car breaks down and she finds Kadin... well he finds her.

Kadin is in his cabin taking a "vacation". He doesn't want to be there, but is. And decides this is the place... Well, he finds London in her car on the side of the road... and their time spent in this cabin is nothing short of amazing. WHOA!

They eventually leave and head back to Spokane. Where... Everything happens and you need to read it because Marie James is amazing and writes so brilliantly. READ THIS! I am 100% sure that this book is already in my top 5 of 2016.

This book totally sucked me in and took me for a ride. The emotions this book evokes are all over the place. The author did an amazing job of making the reader feel like you knew exactly what each of the main characters was feeling throughout their incredible journey. This story had ups, downs, twists, turns, and the story between Kadin and London was both messy and beautiful.

"You're beautiful. And Brave. Your scars, they make you beautifully flawed. They make you perfect".....Swoon! LOVED LOVED LOVED this book. A story of true soulmates at work.

Wow! Marie is amazing! I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end. Of course there were times when I wanted to slap some of the characters. London has an accident just off of the property that Kadin's cabin is on. She is running after the betrayal of her long time boyfriend and her best friend. Kadin is planning on this being his last trip to the cabin and his final farewell. Cate steps in and throws these two together. Can they heal each other and learn to trust and love again? Find out in this amazing book full of twists and turns and ups and downs!

I have drank the Kool-Aid and now see the light...London and Kadin are trapped together in a blizzard both are suffering from their lives outside this blizzard, they are both running from their lives.  They feel the heat between them instantly and really enjoy their time snowed in.  London is open about what has happened to her, Kadin is keeping most of his bottled up inside.  When his past is thrown in her face she can't help but run away.  There are some twists and turns and jaw dropping parts of this story that kept me up reading.  OMG so FREAKING AMAZING LOVED IT!!!!

As most of the stories by Marie James this one will give you the feels! I love the banter between these two characters. They are funny and at ease with each other considering the circumstances that brought them together! In the first chapter my jaw was dropped open, I was confused at the turn of events but in a good way. Showing two people can rise above the crappy hand they were dealt brings smiles and happy tears!
