Heart Hassle #2

Bonds of Cupidity

Rate this book
Note to my stupid cupid self: The next time I go and anchor myself to a hot covey, make sure those anchors aren't about to compete in a fight to the death.

Yeah. Total downer.

I have a body now and I don't intend to lose it. I also don't intend to lose the genfins that I've grown so attached to. So it's time to return to the kingdom island and hope like hell that my guys make it through the royal trials of the culling. I also have to hope that the prince of the realm doesn't spot me. If he does, I'm pretty sure I have imprisonment and torture to look forward to.

But we can make it through this. I know we can. I'm at least 70% sure we can, anyway. Okay, maybe it's more like fifty-fifty. But after we do? Well, my to-do list is long, but convincing my genfins that they belong with me is pretty high up there. So is dessert. And trying some fairy wine. And skinny dipping. Also sex. Lots and lots of sex.

But mostly, I just want what I've always wanted—to have love of my own. Wings crossed that the genfins get on board with that plan. This cupid has her work cut out for her.

A Fantasy Reverse Harem Story.

Author's note: This is the second book of the Heart Hassle Series, so there is a cliffhanger. Be warned. This is a reverse harem story and includes sexually explicit scenes and mature language. Intended for ages 18 years and older.

Omg! What a cliffhanger! I'm so fucking glad the rest of the series is already out, because that would have been a torturous wait. 😂

I enjoyed Bonds of Cupidity just as much if not more than the first book in the series. We got a new harem member this time around, and I couldn't be happier with him. He legit makes me melt. Best decision ever adding Okot! I fell for him as quickly as Emelle did. He a big, sweet, strong teddy bear with piercings and a huge dick. What's not to love? 😏 Am I right?

I appreciated the way all the guys accepted Okot, and he accepted them. Emelle clearly loves them all with equal intensity, so they obviously don't have to worry about that. When I'm reading a RH, I have to know that every member of the harem is fulfilled and loved as much as they deserve. There is never any doubts from me with this group. Raven Kennedy has this shit down pat!

Wanna know something else she has down? Dirty talk and group sex! Yes, sex! If you recall, there was no sex in the first book. It was missed, but merely because I'm a perv. It wouldn't have made sense in the story to have it happen that soon into their journey. This was perfect! I can't wait to see it get even dirtier and more abundant with an extra dick added into the mix!

The story is continually creative and action packed. The character and relationship development is spectacular. Everything about this series and this book is fanfuckingtastic! Emelle and her covey are some of the most amazing characters I've read in paranormal RH, and I'll certainly never forget them!

I can't wait long to see where my lovelies end up, so I'll be diving right into book 3! I would say wish me luck, but I know I don't need it! I have no doubt the final installment will be as amazing as all the rest.

Paranormal reverse harem fans, this is your shit! Fantasy fans that like some romance in the mix, I think you should give this a try! Romcom readers, jump on this train, too! This is a story that is sure to delight many types of readers. You don't want to miss it!

I'm loving this series. Emelle was hilarious in this book. Her constant rambling makes this series all the better. Ronak is fastly becoming one of my favourite characters.
Also, can we please take a moment to appreciate Duru? Especially in this scene,
“I knew you liked me.”
Duru scoffs, but I see a smile trying to emerge. “You still owe my princess a favour, and you can’t fulfill that if you’re dead.”
I grin. “You’re a real softie.”
“And if you are caught, I will deny ever knowing you.”
“Stop it, your loyalty is making me blush.”

Can't wait to start the next book after that cliffhanger at the end.

Now that their 5 years exile is over, Ronak, Evert, and Sylred are brought back to the main island to fight in the culling. Only a few of the 25 exiled faes will survive and be allowed to rejoin fae society, and of course, the prince made sure that the game was rigged against the condemned faes so that none or only a few survive. Emelle is forced to stay near her genfins if she wants to keep her physical body, but that proves hard when they are imprisoned in the palace while she is trying to hide in the city. Thankfully, she will meet a surprising ally that will help her, in exchange for a few favors obviously.

“I'm not a goldfish. I do have an attention span.” I continue to twirl the arrow through my fingers like it's a baton. “And I resent you thinking—Oh, look!" I exclaim excitedly, zooming toward the window. “That fae down there is riding a unicorn!” Okay. I see his point.

I did not expect to like this series so much! This book is funny, easy to read, sexy and there is just the right amount of intrigue and politics to keep it interesting and more complex than a simple romance novel. Emelle still reminds me of Willa (from the Curse of the Gods series), because both are completely random at times and it adds a really fun touch to the story and some crazy hilarious dialogues. Her incessant rambling and very limited attention span are becoming almost like a running gag, but it’s perfect if you are looking for a light, sexy and entertaining read.

This book made me laugh even more than the first one did, and there is more action. The prince remains a jerk (no surprise here), and we also get to see more of Princess Soora. She is an intriguing character and I hope to see her in the next book too, because I liked what we saw of her in this book. She has a backbone and is not happy to stay quiet and compliant while the prince plays his games and destroys his realm, and I like that.

“If you're my mate, you have to laugh at all my jokes,” I admonish.
His face sobers, and he nods seriously. “Of course, my beloved. I won't fail you again.”
I smile. This mate stuff is fun.”

The characters are great, but I admit that I am not sure why the author felt the need to add a fourth love interest in the mix. We don't know much about Okot and I guess that he has a reason to put into this story because Emelle already had her three guys, she didn't really need a fourth one who's not linked with the genfins... Hopefully, he will be more important in the next book because for the moment he feels more like a temporary sidepiece than a mate, but I can't say that I care for him. Sure, he provided Emelle with company and comfort while she couldn’t be with the guys, and he is suuuuper sweet and caring, but I am still not convinced that he will fit well in this RH.

“Syl. Take over. I can’t talk to her when she does the thing where she disagrees with me.”

Evert is still sexy and funny, and we finally get to see him shine in his element: sex and dirty talk. Since the beginning of the first book, there was such a dark and sexy intensity to him, and he was finally able to let this side of him come out and play with Emelle, because there is sex in this book! Finally! They sealed the deal, they did it, and it was a smutty group sex-fest!

Ronak is still being a gruff alpha male, but we get to see a new, sweeter side of him. We knew he cared for Emelle before, but now he’s starting to show it, and his fierce protective side comes out whenever Emelle is, or seems to be in trouble, which honestly happens a lot with her. I like that he’s showing more feelings, but I also like that he remained a gruffier and grumpier love interest. It would have been weird for him to just suddenly become a sweet loverboy.

“That’s yummy,” I admit. “What, are you guys just carrying boxes of chocolates in your pockets now?”
“Just me,” Sylred winks. It's not lost on me that he just thwarted another one of my meltdowns. With chocolate. I'm not even embarrassed about it. Chocolate is amazing.

I hope sweet and caring Sylred gets more attention in the last book. He is always quiet and in the background, except when he is shoving chocolates into Emelle's mouth to make her shut up or to calm her (hilarious method, but I have to say that it is quite efficient).

I love how Emelle is just blowing Lust Breathes everywhere, and using her Cupid powers whenever she feels like it. I am also wondering what is happening to her and her powers... I guess we'll see in the third book, and I am so glad that I already have it because this book ends with a kind of cliffhanger.

I also want to mention Belren quickly, because I really liked what little we saw of him. He has this mysterious, playful, flirty, and sexy aura to him, and he is quickly becoming a favorite of mine, even if he is not involved in the romance at all. Also, I am pretty sure that the 4th book is a spinoff where he is one of the main characters and I am super excited about it (hopefully I am not wrong). Also, Emelle and the genfins calling him the Horny Hooker instead of the Horned Hook never fails to make me smile.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is not to be taken too seriously, it's perfect if you are looking for a funny, easy, and sexy read.

“I don’t want to disappear again,” I whisper.
“If you do, I'll find you.”

I didn't like this as much as the first book. It was kind of boring because Emelle was separated from everyone for so long. I honestly skimmed through a lot of the middle parts. Going to continue with the last book anyway because they're easy reads and we're just starting to get to the steamy parts 🥰

Also, who the hell is this Okot person and why is he trying to infiltrate our harem 🤬 WE DON'T NEED YOU!!

fun, sexy and entertaining. also laugh out loud funny! very relatable.

love the characters, i only have one issue... why the frick is Okot suddenly in this?? she already has her threesome of genfins, she don't need no bull dude! he seems kinda dodgy and i don't like him anywhere near as much as i love Evert, Sylred and Ronak.... ah well i'll see what happens in the last book

~~~
post reread 2022: ya know what, Okot has grown on me a tad, though he’s still not my fav. Ah well! A fun reread during exams :)
This series is fun and flirty and just full of great RH goodness. I love Emelle as a lead MC, she is funny and silly. Bonds of Cupidity finally gave me the action that I was looking for: smut-wise that is. Raven Kennedy you sweet goddess of puns. Emelle was hilarious in this book. Her constant rambling makes this series all the better. Ronak is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters and Evert in close second.
Quotes:
“I’m sprouting black like an emo teenager and leaking Lust out of my mouth. It’s definitely not okay. I’m broken.”
“I find that midnight is often the most illuminating time.”
“You. You’re supposed to be the nice one. I expected better from you. You’re not supposed to laugh when I hiccup myself invisible. I’m gonna table this whole feather and eye color thing for now, because I can’t handle anymore crazy, but as of this moment, you’re all in trouble. So there.”
Funny one again. Still reminds me of the Four Psychos series, but less angsty and with a Cupid. I’ll be reading book 3.
Also, Emelle is completely right about running ( why do it) and chocolate (should always eat it). Her favorite things are sleeping and eating. ❤️❤️❤️
Re-read review:
This one has always made me laugh way more than the first. Plus it had lots of more action. The prince is seriously a huge jerkwad. And what's going on with the princess? She seemed really nice and helpful, but now her solders are attacking them? Something is fishy. And where's Okot? I don't like that he would just leave on a errand for the princess and not even give Emelle a heads up. But Okot has really grown on me. I'm not really into the insta love stuff but he is just so sweet. The whole flying her to the stars stuff? *swoon* I hope poor Sylred gets more attention. He always seems kinda in the background, except when hes shoving chocolates into Emelle's mouth (which I still find hilarious).
AGHHHHH!!!!!!! What was that ending???? I don’t think I can stand waiting for the third book to come out. I need to know what happens nowwwww 😫
This book was even better than the first. There was more sexy times and, of course, Emelle’s constant blabbeling and witty humor. I laughed so hard while reading this. We got to see new side of Ronak and we got a completely new mate (who is just as hot at the others ;) L
While I totally love Okot I really don’t like their relationship. Just because they’re mates doesn’t mean their sooo in love with eachother. They barely just met and they act like they live for eachother. Where’s the getting to know you slow burning romance? I don’t like this insta love crap. It doesn’t feel as real as Emelle’s relationships with her genfins.
Emelle is her same old hilarious self. Blowing Lust Breathes everywhere was freaking hilarious (I love these Cupid power names BTW) But I wonder what’s going on with her and the changes she’s going though. Is she becoming something else? Is she not a Cupid anymore? And more importantly WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO HER??!!
Oh and random note: I love how they guys use chocolate to shut her up. They just shove chocolates in her face and she forgets all about whatever she was talking about. Emelle is my new spirit animal 😂 (or is it spirit Cupid? 🤔)
Ok, nope, shouldn't have given a second chance to this series.
Not only do the characters still lack complexity and, well, 'realness', but the MC is still annoying and flat.
Oh, and let's not forget, this book was boring as well.
I gave this author, this series, another chance in the hopes that the writing gets better, but alas, all I did was waste my time.
It's extremely hard to write good RHs, and it's not often that I manage to find a good series, mainly because it's hard to make all of it natural. But this series should have been so much fun! Who wouldn't love a snarky, sarcastic cupid, right?
Why did it all have to be ruined by bad writing, there was so, so much potential here.
Maybe I'll give this author another chance at one point, but I am done with this series.
I just CANNOT find Okot attractive. I'm deeply not a nose ring kinda girl. Very disappointed, since I loved the first book.
Impromptu buddy read with the other impatient girls at Reverse Harem Revolution - sometimes the best things happen when you don't plan for it!
This is all fun, fluff and flirty! If you're looking for a serious thought provoking book then back away slowly
That's right back away from the room filled with rainbows it's not for you
Another surprise this continuing to be entertaining! I really didn't expect to like this series and I'm so into it. It maybe even deserves the 5 but I'll stick with my gut on the 4 because the beginning was a bit iffy .
The introduction of a red haired bull kinda threw me but after a few chapters I was sold
It's left on cliffhanger but we were warned so it at least wasn't a surprise but I am still dying for the next
And sure enough Emelle's particular sense of humor became very annoying, especially during the sex scenes. On top of that, the story completely lost me. When you do something stupid out of ignorance, misplaced loyalty or because you're helping someone else I can forgive it....but when you do something stupid that everyone you know has begged you not to do and the consequences of your actions effect everyone, I can't continue pulling for a character like that. I reached the point in this series that I was hoping for her complete and utter failure on every level so that's usually a good spot for me to end a series.
I like this book a little less than the first, but this one is way funnier 🤣 the banter between the guys was amazing. I would read a bonus chapter of them just bantering while doing boring shit honestly. And Emelle was hilarious as always - though her humor did kind of get old near the end lol
I didn't really like the plot in this one though, because I wasn't invested in the politics to begin with. And then they added Okot, which, I know he's kinda a fan favorite and I get it, he's nice, but he was an unnecessary addition to the bunch. I think his relationship with Emelle was supposed to serve as a comedic thing but to me it was an instalove mess. Their arc is so boring.
Emelle was especially horny in this one tho and ?? Idk it made me like her less. Nothing wrong with being horny but it did get old since being horny was almost her entire personality at this point. Ok maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit but it felt like that okay lol
Evert carried this book on his back tho. Love that guy
This is a great RH series.
This series is fun and flirty and just full of great RH goodness. I love Emelle as a lead MC, she is funny and silly but not overly so to make her annoying.
I was only curious as to what was going on with Emelle and her superiors in Cupidville. I was wondering when or if they were going to notice that she was in the physical realm.
I am hoping that I have all my questions answered in the final book which I will be jumping into shortly.
Good.. but the first book was better.
Spoilers below.
Bonds of Cupidity finally gave me the action that I was looking for: smut-wise that is. I was so happy that she finally bonded with the guys BUT I didn't really like the bull guy being thrown into the mix. I feel like I have a lot of trust issues with people in this book and I don't like that. Also, what's with these freaking cliffhangers? I need the next book and I have no idea when that will become a thing that I can read.
So much happened in this book. First the guys have this culling, Emelle may or may not have found an actual mate, everyone admits that they want to become mates, there's an orgy, and a lot of betrayal going on. Yeah, a lot happened. My hatred towards the prince has been pretty constant. He's still a douche and I can't wait for him to die. Then this book had some twists and drama added to it.
We finally meet the guy's first "love" but not really 'cause she's a very selfish bitch and I'm so happy that Ronak has seen the light with her. He rejected her. Flat out. His animal even did it too and I loved everything about that scene. The whole mating ritual for these guys was intense - a whole freaking week of fucking guys. After all of that, Ronak is the first to get his wings - which everyone didn't think was possible. So now I'm wondering if she could potentially have their babies? Or babies in general?
Then there's that ending, I have so many questions about that. Will the guys be able to feel what happened to her? Will they be able to find her? Will she be able to find a way back to them? SO MANY QUESTIONS.
I now notice the small cabin that's situated at the bottom of the mountain. When they reach the door, Ronak knocks. Well, he more like punches the poor door, making an audible splintering noise as the wood slightly buckles.
When the guys look over at him, he just shrugs. "Whoops."
Evert rolls his eyes. "Rein the strength power in, yeah?"
Before he can answer, the door flies open and there stands two fae to greet us.
I blink at the sight. "They're…they're stuck together at their butts. They're butt-stuck. At the butt cheeks. They're naked. Penises. I can see their penises. They're identical." For some reason, I feel like this all needs to be said.
I'm having a hard time looking away with them just hanging out in the open like this. "I just…do you think they both poop and pee at the same time? Or does one of them take over for that? What about sex? Or sitting? What happens when one of them wants to sit and the other doesn't?"
Yeah, I know. I'm rambling again.
"Genfins," they both say at the same time. It's weird. "We are Plik-and Plak. Come in. We've been expecting you." Their gazes fall to Okot. "We did not expect you."
Okot just stares at them all bull-man-y until they shrug and let him go inside, too.
"Umm, should I be concerned that these are the faes that hold my physical fate in their hands?" I ask no one.
I'm practically inside Ronak as he walks indoors, because the fae penises are looking at me. When in doubt, just stick with the guy with the strength power to protect you from rogue penises. I should put that on a t-shirt.
This book took me waaaaaayy too fucking long to read. But, that's not a reflection on the story. It's good. It's funny. There's smexy times. There's some twists and turns and new developments. So basically, it contains everything I want in a book like this. It's been a minute since I've read book 1 also, but I picked right back up with the storyline, no problem. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes in the next book, because this one leaves off on a serious cliffhanger. I'd like to say more, but in all honesty I'm too tired and too full to bother. (My family had our thanksgiving dinner today, and I'm still full and miserable damn near six hours later.) So, just enjoy some of my favorite scenes…if I ever get around to adding them…
He also has a golden ring pierced through his septum. "Gods, that had to have hurt," I say, pointing to his nose piercing. "Did it hurt? Never mind, you don't even have to answer that. I would cry if I got a piercing like that. This one time, I was watching this tattoo parlor all day, because I kind of have a thing for guys with tattoos, so it was like, the perfect place to watch, you know?"
He doesn't say he knows, so I just shrug and keep going. "Well, anyway, then this girl got her nipples pierced. Her nipples! And if that wasn't bad enough, then she got a piercing down there," I say in a mock-whisper as I point to my crotch. "I didn't even know they did that at the time. Now that's gotta be worse than the nose, don't you think?"
He still doesn't answer me, so I soldier on. "She didn't cry, but I'm pretty sure she was high on something. She kept giggling and talking about boiled eggs. That can't be normal. But if I ever get a piercing, I'll just be sure to get hooked up with some drugs first. Did you take drugs when you got pierced? Wait…what kind of drugs do fae have? I bet fae drugs are awesome."
I look up at him expectantly, but I can see from his expression that I've rendered him speechless.
When I finally drag my eyes away from his nose piercing, I notice that his face is rather handsome, and that he has a circle of red around his irises that matches his hair. I also notice that those eyes are locked onto my chest.
I look down and notice that my gaping nightdress with the rip in the back has slid down at some point, and the top half of my boobs are out for display. I quickly pull up my shirt, but his eyes just flick to the red wings behind me instead.
Crap. I really should think before opening the door to strangers.
"I'm hoping the princess sent you?" I ask. When he nods, I breathe out a sigh of relief. "Good. Come in, then."
I turn so that he can pass by me. The second he takes a step inside my room and gets closer to me, he freezes. His entire bulky body tenses, and he snaps his head in my direction.
Without preamble, he brings his nose to the crook of my neck and sniffs me.
Yeah. Sniffs.
I freeze in place at the hot air of his breath that travels down my skin.
"Umm, what's happening right now?"
As covertly as I can, I bring my nose to my armpit and take a whiff, just in case. Hmm, I'm not picking up anything stinky. After another sniff from him, he pulls back with great reluctance and I notice that the red circles around his irises are much larger and they're sort of…pulsing.
Your eyes are doing some weird shit. Are you, like, losing it? Are you gonna have a psychotic episode? Do I smell bad to you? Because seriously, I bathed. Stop making this weird."
His nostrils flare and he closes his eyes as he breathes in again. When he opens them and looks at me, the red in his eyes seems to have calmed down. In a super low, gravelly voice he says, "You do not smell bad. Your smell is…" he trails off, unable to find the right words. "You are my mate."
My eyebrows shoot up, and I open my mouth in surprise, but before I can say anything, his hand has snaked around the back of my neck, and he's crashing his lips against mine.
Whoa.
~
They might have had their physical wounds healed, some haircuts, and a bath, but the weariness of the culling competition is still there. The guys kick off their boots and start undressing.
"Oh. Right. I guess I should turn around…?"
I keep watching. Because, yeah. I've been totally imagining them naked since I first saw them. Invisibility has its perks. I perch my voyeur ass on one of the beds and watch the show.
Evert is the first to lose his formal jacket and then his shirt. His pale skin is even paler in the moonlight coming through the window, but he has sculpted abs and pecs, as well as a small happy trail of black hair that leads to the promised land.
I totally want to go to the promised land.
Leaning up, I wait for him to lose his pants. To my great disappointment, he doesn't. "Tease."
Sylred and Ronak have their shirts off, too. Sylred is leaner, while Ronak is all sculpted granite and bulging muscles. If I had saliva, it'd be dripping down my chin.
"My, my, my. Post-banishment looks good on you."
Much to my disappointment, they don't take off their pants, either. I only pout a little.
"Enjoy the peep show, Scratch?"
I jump. "What? No. Totally wasn't watching you guys strip or anything," I say in a rush, forgetting that they can't actually see or hear me. Evert chuckles like he knows he caught me, anyway. "You're such a jerk face."
"I keep forgetting she's hanging around," Ronak mumbles before flopping onto one of the beds.
"Me too. Unless…maybe she didn't follow us," Sylred says.
Evert snorts. "Course she followed us. Didn't you, Scratch?"
Well, since he asked.
"Fuck! Stop doing that! It was rhetorical. I know you're fucking here," he says,scowling down at his erection.
Sylred and I chuckle. I'm pretty sure Ronak's lip twitches, too.
Evert and Sylred settle onto the other two beds, and soon, their breathing evens out nice and slow. I lie down in the bed next to Evert. If I position myself just so,the outline of my ghostly body almost looks like we're touching. He shifts in his sleep, flinging an arm over where my waist is.
I close my eyes, just imagining how it would feel to be held by him like this. Then I remember when Okot did.
I lay next to Evert the rest of the night, pretending I can feel, and pretending Evert can feel me, too. What? I'm freaking lonely. Also bored. I miss sleeping. Watching people sleep isn't nearly as entertaining as that Edward vampire dude made it out to be.
~
"She won't want me." He says it so quietly that I almost don't hear him.
"Maybe you should ask her," Sylred suggests.
I don't even hesitate. I perch myself on his lap-which is hard to do without sinking right through, but I manage because I'm awesome-and I blow a huge burst of Lust into his face. His whole body clenches.
Evert and Sylred start laughing. "It's funny when she's not doing it to me," Evert says.
"Hilarious," Ronak says dryly, while simultaneously covering his crotch with his hands.
"So. We're doing this?"
"My animal needs to decide," Ronak replies.
Evert waves him off. "Yeah, yeah. I'm not worried about that. Are we doing this or what?"
Ronak shifts in his seat and looks between them. Then he nods. He freaking nods! "Okay."
Evert smirks. "Okay."
They both look at Sylred. "Okay," he mimics.
The guys just decided to take me as a mate by okay-ing. I'm okay with it.
My head swims with emotion and I feel like my whole body is about to burst. These damn genfins are choosing me. Thank the gods. And it's about damn time.
If I really had to go through with helping them find a mate, I probably would've shanked someone with a Love Arrow. I'm gonna be a way better mate, anyway.
Evert leans his head back on the carriage wall and closes his eyes. "You hear that, Scratch? We're keeping you. I knew these assholes would agree. It was just a matter of time."
Sylred and Ronak have settled back as if they're going to go to sleep, too.
I scowl at them. "You can't just drop a bomb like that and then go to sleep. You don't get to just okay yourselves into my super awesome cupid covey." I mean, they can, but that's beside the point.
~
"I don't know. Let me practice." I blow out a breath and scrunch my eyes closed, concentrating. I whisper under my breath. "I'm invisible, I'm invisible, I'm invisible…"
Peeling open one eye, I look at the genfins. They stare back at my still-solid body. "Dammit."
"You thought you could just repeat, 'I'm invisible' and that would work?" Evert asks with a grin on his face.
"It's called speaking something into reality, Evert," I snap.
"Mmmhmm. And how's that normally work out for you?"
"Well, this was my first time trying it, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna work."
He barely holds in his laughter. "Then by all means," he waves his hand out. "Please continue."
I scrunch my eyes closed again and visualize myself popping back into the Veil. "I'm like the wind. I'm Invisible!"
When I check my body again, I'm still solid. "Gods dammit!"
"Should we order you some more food? See if we can induce you into invisibility with some more hiccups?" Evert teases.
"Ha ha," I say dryly.
"I think we've determined what you're doing is not going to work," Evert drawls.
I puff out a frustrated breath. "Well I don't know how to do it," I snap. "Why don't you try turning invisible and see how easy it is?"
With his shit-eating grin still in place, he does a terrible impression of my voice as he calls out, "I'm invisible like the wind!"
I glare at him. "I don't sound like that."
He lifts a shoulder. "I think it was a good impersonation."
"Do that again and I'll be impersonating kicking my foot into your ass."
He just laughs. I need to work on my threats.
Ronak flicks his gaze to Evert and then suddenly comes forward. He takes hold of my arms and forces me to look at him. He blocks out everyone else, probably so I don't throat-punch Evert.
"Focus, little demon," he says quietly.
"I am," I retort.
Surprisingly, he doesn't call me out for acting like a five-year-old. "Close your eyes," he says soothingly. "Good. Now picture your body slowly fading," he says, his tone steady and soft. "First you feel it in your feet, as they start to go. Then it spreads up your legs, your stomach, your chest, your shoulders."
His voice calms me completely and pulls me into an almost trance-like state. "Your head is last, and now everything is light and insubstantial. Your whole body is invisible. Your body knows exactly how to fade into the Veil. Trust it."
I feel weightless. For a moment, I'm positive it worked, but before I can open my eyes to confirm, I hear Ronak curse under his breath. I barely hear him whisper Evert's name, and then…
Lightning-quick, someone snatches me from behind and yells, "BOO!"
"Ah!" I jump about three feet in the air from Evert scaring the absolute crap out of me. I also think I peed a little? But when I land…I don't land.
I whirl around to see a cocky looking Evert. He's looking at the spot I disappeared from. "Well that worked." Ronak scratches the back of his head. "I guess she has to be startled into it."
"You assholes!"
I blow Lust into both of their stupid faces and enjoy the matching growls that follow. It's half-lust crazed and half-irritated.
"We helped you," Ronak feels the need to point out.
"Come on, let's go now before she sneezes herself back into visibility." Sylred says cheerfully, opening the door.
"Sneezing doesn't happen in the Veil, thank you very much."
~
"I'm malfunctioning," I grumble, looking down at my feet and kicking the grass.
Sylred lifts my chin with his finger. "Hey. It's okay."
"I'm sprouting black like an emo teenager and leaking Lust out of my mouth. It's definitely not okay. I'm broken."
His brown eyes soften and he rubs my jaw lightly. "You're not broken. Just changing. We'll figure it out. But none of these things are causing any real harm."
I guess that's true. No harm except freaking me out and giving Evert unintentional hard-ons.
I raise my arms. "Who's gonna carry me now?"
Evert shakes his head. "Nope. I'm tapping out. If you hit me with another wave of that shit, it'll be an embarrassing walk back into town."
My lips twitch with a smile, which I know was his intention. He always knows just how to lighten the mood.
Ronak lifts me up and swings me over his back like I'm light as a black feather. I wrap my legs around his waist, but his body is so broad that I have a hard time getting a good grip without my hips pinching in protest.
"You're too big," I grumble.
I can feel his chuckle against my chest. "You'll appreciate that later."
"You guys are so dirty."
"This coming from the girl who propositioned us almost as soon as she met us."
I shrug. "I was excited to have a real vagina," I deadpan.
Ronak nearly trips.
I win.
I am so obsessed with this book and Emelle she is silly and funny but also somehow relatable in her snarky comments! I love that we finally got the spicy scenes but I am unsure of how I feel about the extra material
İlk kitabın sadece konusuna bakarak, troplarına bakmadan başlamak kesinlikle benim hatam. Saf saf hangisini seçecek diye okurken, ikinci kitapta üçünü de seçip bir de üzerine dördüncüyü seçmesi büyük sürpriz oldu. Harem benlik bir trope değil. Siz seviyorsanız itinayla tavsiye ederim; ha yok, benim gibi tek eşliği tercih edenlerdenseniz başlamayın.
This series is so freaking good. Yes, it ends on a cliffhanger but I'm not too mad about it. It keeps us on the edge of our seats but man, I hate waiting for the third book. As soon as it's published, you can be sure I'll be reading it!
In Bonds of Cupidity we get to meet new characters (Okot) and reunite with others . I wasn't expecting for the characters to be apart for so long while the Culling was going on but that's fine with me. It was still a big part of the plot and it allowed us to see her with her new mate ;) (I admit, the flying bull part was a little weird to get used to haha. It's not something you often see in books).
Overall, great addition to the story. I can't wait to find out more!
I'm so sad this series is only a trilogy because somehow it keeps getting better. I officially have a major girl crush on Emelle, she's damned hilarious and I love her short attention span and random ridiculous tangents. One thing that threw me for a surprise was the addition of another mate. I love Okot though and fully accept him, I just didn't see him coming. Then again, he helps make her island trio wake the hell up and realize what she means to them. The guys still have to make it through the trials and find a place for Emelle in their lives. All the while her existence in the world is ever changing. Literally nothing is easy and the few brief bits of peace the group got, I'm glad to say they put to good use :P This is such a fun series and I cannot wait to see how the group will get their HEA. I imagine Emelle trying to shirk her Cupid duties won't be easy but nothing ever is when it comes to this crazy Cupid. Her commentary and inner dialogue makes the book for me and honestly I really appreciate how genuinely funny the book is without feeling forced. I don't want it to end lol
This is still good but it gets a bit messier.
In the first book, we meet three guys who we know are going to be her love interests. But then, this book adds another one with very little build up and it's not as fun or well fleshed out.
Please just don’t make Emelle suffer from what I like to call “willa syndrome “ you know willa from curse of the gods series by Jane Washington..that ditzy bullshit -talking like an idiot-not good enough without her men saving her- thinking about sex all the time is annoying as fuck so please give it in small doses so we don’t chock on our own vomit every time we read it
