The Gryps showdown nears its conclusion! Now in the semifinal of the Gryps, Team Enfield of Seidoukan Academy faces off against Team Yellow Dragon of Jie Long Seventh Institute. Ayato and his fellow competitors will need to fight the twin siblings, Shenyun and Shenhua Li, who were one of the strongest teams from last year's Phoenix; Cecily Wong and Hufeng Zhao, previous winners of the Phoenix; and team leader Xiaohui Wu, the highest-ranking disciple of Xinglou Fan. Can Ayato overcome them all and proceed to the final match against Team Lancelot of Saint Gallardworth Academy?! And if that wasn't enough to keep him busy, the Golden Bough Alliance begins to make their move in the shadows...
So with volume 10 we finally get the semi-final and final of the Gryps tournament. So there are a number of pages devoted to these battles. Even then they still felt a bit rushed. But that feeling that the Asterisk War books have just felt too short to me is a running theme in my reviews. So maybe it is just me.
There are bits of world building in between that are decent enough and move things forward rather than just let the book rest on the tourney. Even so, nothing stands out spectacularly.
But now that Team Enfield has won, I hope we get some wishes being granted in the next volume (or two). Hope our library gets volume 11 soon.
Verdict: If you've read up through 9 you already know what to expect, if that's your cuppa, keep going. If not, why are you here?
Lots of fighting, the best parts are in between when the author tries to develop the back story. He didn’t even make an effort to make the story unpredictable. While fun, you won’t remember this volume
