"She just wanted it all to be over - only no pain anymore."
Christina has for many years been living close to Stockholm together with her husband Patrik. All of a sudden Patrik disappears and Christina desperately tries finding him. When after six weeks she still has not got any signs about his whereabouts, she turns to the Private Investigators Lars und Elin and asks them for help. The two experienced sleuths soon believe that Patrik has gone lost by choice – it seems that he wanted to make a new start in his life, without Christina. Finally, Lars and Elin can discover a trail of Patrik and this leads them into the forests in Northern Sweden. They even manage to find Patrik, but unfortunately he is dead. The police believes it was an accident and discontinues their investigations. Christina, however, is not ready to accept this and engages Lars und Elin again. She wants them to dig into the background of Patrik’s death. Was it really an accident? Or did anybody play dirty and actually killed Patrik? And what is the role of the mysterious Natalia? For Lars and Elin this assignment means a lot of tedious detective work and unfortunately every trail leads into a blind end. But then, this case takes an unexpected turn. Christina is facing a decision with extraordinary consequences which eventually leads them all into a fight for life and death.
MURDER? is the third, standalone book from Christer Tholin’s Stockholm Sleuth Series.
The author grew up in the North of Germany, Schleswig-Holstein. Today, he lives together with his family in Stockholm, Sweden, where he works as management consultant.
Already for ages he has been a great fan of crime stories and therefore, had the desire to write his own crime story with the characters acting in Sweden. This crime-fiction is now available under the title "Vanished?". The crime novel starts at a slower pace - like Martin's holidays, but the tension goes up more and more. It comes to a number of surprising turns giving new impulses to the story. Apart from that, the lovely country Sweden is described with the view of a foreigner.
I received a free teaser to a series of Swedish police procedures from Christer Tholin. This Kindle file contains portions of Vanished?, Secrets?, and Murder? and leaves you invested and wanting more. Christer Tholin is an author I will follow. He writes a tense, fast-paced story with characters you want to be involved with.
Christina and Patrik seem to have the perfect relationship, living on the outskirts of Stockholm. But the Lars vanishes in plain sight. Christina turns to the PI team of Elin and Lars, and they do find Patrik in the deep woods of northern Sweden - deceased. The police are calling it an accidental death. Christina knows it isn't an accident - but will the three of them survive to discover the truth?

“MURDER?” is the 3rd book of Stockholm Sleuth series by Christer Tholin, which can be read as standalone.
Christina is very worried when she cannot get in touch of her husband Patrick for six weeks. It seems that he just “poof” disappeared! Through her friends, Liv and Martin, Christina hires the trustworthy Private Investigators Lars and Elin to find the answers to Patrick’s disappearance. As these two PIs put their effort into the investigation, more secrets and lies are revealed layer by layer. Are they able to solve the case? The adventure takes us to some parts of Europe including Budapest and Sweden.
Christer Tholin has great potential to write suspenseful crime investigations that would be goodreads to fans of such thrillers.
Thank you to Christer Tholin for the opportunity to read and review “MURDER?”. In fact, I like the story line and the setting that is placed in parts of Europe.
In Christer Tholin’s third book in the series, Elin and Lars embark on a new case brought to them by Liv and Martin whose mystery they solved in book 2. Elin is coming into her own as a private detective and must deal with her relationship with Maya and their mutual relationship with Elin’s parents. Lars’ family life is also revealed and we struggle along with him with work/life balance and keeping Elin from getting him into dangerous situations. The “MURDER?” Title refers to the disappearance of the husband of Liv’s friend and it takes us on an adventure involving quite an assortment of international characters.
Just when I thought I had it solved, a page turn took me on a new route, with more twists and turns for all characters! A statisfying mystery with a rather surprising resolution!
Full disclosure: I read an advanced reader copy of this book.
Christina's world is turned upside down when her husband just ups and leaves one day. After six weeks of trying to find him, she hires Lars and Elin to track him down. She wants answers. Lars and Elin find him, but he is dead. The police say it was an accident, but Christina doesn't believe them and wants Lars and Elin to find out what her husband was actually up to. This sends all three of them on a ride you won't believe! Goes to show you really don't know someone as much as you think you do!!! I voluntarily reviewed a free ARC of this book.
Christina's husband is missing. She hires Lars and Elin to try to find her missing husband. They find his dead body. End of the case? Christina rehires them to find out why he wanted to leave and who the mystery women is he was planning on running away with. A woman, Naliea, calls Christina and says she is pregnant with her husbands child and that a criminal, Stanislov is chasing her and will do her harm. A page turner that will get your heart rate up to the conclusion.
I really enjoyed the book and the characters. I thought some of it was a bit unrealistic, but it had a happy ending so I am torn. Everything fit into place a little too well. I couldn't put it down and never thought about not finishing it. It is a good read
The plot is interesting, but the writing is at times stilted and at other times unclear and/or misleading. I don't know if this is a translation from Swedish or German, but I found that the writing annoyed me. The use of some English idiomatic expressions by both the characters and the narrator felt unnatural and inconsistent--sometimes coming from older generations, sometimes from newer generations. There are also occasions when it seems that the wrong conjunction is used to express the author's intent, making the sentence confusing. I don't think I'll read any other books by this author.
I didn’t like this one as much as the first two. The new characters felt a little flat and not robust. I didn’t know enough details about Patrik and Christina’s marriage prior to the events that transpired. The bright spot was the troubles in Lars and his wife’s marriage. It seems there is more to that story. I hope the next book provides the details.
