I always love Stephen's Bible teaching. He provides background on why Paul wrote the letter to the Corinthians and shows places where Paul was quoting or responding to the letter he had received.
In another place, Stephen shows where Paul was engaging in a mini-debate to expose sophistry. When Paul says, "Everything is allowable to me," he is not personally advocating this, but rather stating what a Sophist would say. Then Paul responds, "But everything does not benefit." And so it goes for a few lines, back and forth between the imaginary Sophist and Paul.
These nuances aren't revealed in the Bible and can only be discerned by study. This is only Book 1 of 4, and I plan to read the rest of them.
1 Corinthians addresses issues/failures in the ancient Church, yet they are totally relevant to the modern Church. The areas where there "seems" to be a disconnect from the ancient to modern Churches, is quickly proven otherwise w very insightful interpretations. Exceptional commentary. I would highly recommend.
