Book 2 of 2. An Eomix Galaxy Novel. Science Fiction/ Fantasy
Summary: Daith Tocc has discovered some incredible things about herself while aboard the spaceship, the Horizon: she is smart, charming, and has psionic powers that allow her to sense emotions, melt physical objects, even heal or injure with a thought. The problem is, she doesn’t have any memory of who she used to be.
Regardless, Daith made a choice between leaving the ship to learn who she is or staying aboard to help the crew’s mission. But someone from her past knows the truth about her, and if he finds her, that truth could shatter her decision–and leave everyone vulnerable to her powers.
IDENTITY continues the story of Daith Tocc as she slowly starts putting together the pieces of her past aboard the starship Horizon. Blessed (or cursed) with potent psychic powers inherited from her father, Daith has been used as an unwitting puppet by the ambitious and ruthless Aleet Army Commander, Trey. But she turns out to be stronger and more resilient than anyone expected, setting up a final, explosive confrontation that kept me turning pages way past my bedtime.
Multiple points of view keep the pace moving quickly, and one of the things I enjoyed most is that all of the characters, major and minor, are nuanced and believable. Personal motivations drive the larger plot, which revolves around themes of memory and loss, vengeance and redemption. Daith is a sympathetic heroine, struggling to do what seems right even as her amnesia prevents her from seeing the truth. The supporting cast of villains and antiheroes are all colorful and distinct, as is the impressive world-building. There were plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing, and characters I started off hating turned out to have sympathetic secrets that had me revising my opinions by the end.
I highly recommend this series for fans of space opera, adventures and sci-fi/fantasy, and eagerly await the next installment!
Better than the first! Wow! Holy cow what a sequel! I couldn't put this book down-action and suspense with a great plot and story behind it. Brings the story to a great close with surprises at the end. Highly recommended!
'Identity' by Christa Yelich-Koth is the perfect companion to her first novel, 'Illusion'. The mystery becomes clear, the heroine discovers who she really is, and the adventure is fast-paced and exciting. Daith is surrounded by strong, quirky characters, human and alien, who both help and hinder her on her quest to right the wrongs in her past - as she has been led to believe. I found myself holding my breath at times, adrenaline flowing, as the action amped up.
'Identity' is a book for anyone who enjoys an intelligent story, from the sci-fi fan to the feminist looking for an independent female protagonist, from the adventure lover to members of the LGBTQAI community. Yelich-Koth delivers on all fronts. Again.
IDENTITY is a fantastic sequel to ILLUSION and a great end to a page-turning space opera. Think Star Wars meets Firefly. I was very lucky to get to read this book in advance. I can't wait for it's official release on October 8th.
Finally all the confusion, the conspiracies all came to understandings.
The author Christa Yelich-Koth keeps with her beautiful writing, her imagination is truly extraordinary, especially how she keeps you on your toes full of tension staring from first page on the first book all the way till the ending of this second one, the only thing that I don’t understand is that the first book description says ‘book 1 of 2’, and on the second book description it says ‘book 2 of 2 ‘ and it took close to two years to finish the series but now there is a third book in the series making it a trilogy and the descriptions have not been changed so I guess that I’ll find out why after listening to number three “ Coiled Vengeance “.
Just like the first book Maria Marquis has also perfectly narrated this one.
Beautiful series which I without a doubt recommend For all science fiction Lovers !!!
Christa Yelich-Koth's second book more than matches the first, "Illusion". As heroine Daith continues to try to find her identity, solve the mystery of her past, and come to grips with the terrible gift inherited from her father, the story moves with increasing speed to its universe shaking conclusion. Strong characters, unexpected twists and turns all make this a wonderful story that keeps the reader waiting for the next page. Marvelous book, regardless of genre!
This is a great conclusion to Daith Tocc's story. You get to see into her past and see who her true friends are. Christa makes you feel for all the characters, whether it's empathy or anger. Well-written, fast-paced space opera with believable characters. Not too technical, which is good, as you don't have to pull out a dictionary to find out what they're talking about. This is a series that you'll want to read over again.
I loved this book! So glad I read 'Illusion' so that I could follow up with 'Identity'. It was the perfect companion book, with its own flavor, yet it stayed true to the original story. New, interesting characters, great alien species, and a powerful punch for the finale. Also, a very satisfying aftermath that wrapped things up just they way they needed to be, even if not always the way I personally wanted them. That's what added the spice.
Daith Tocc’s journey continues in this second and final installment. As more characters try to manipulate her to their ends, her friend Tarrock enlists help to attempt a rescue. Who will succeed i their objective? And will anyone survive.
Somehow this story seemed to fall flat. Perhaps it was how quickly events ended. It felt like If Daith had such infinite power, her own body would have combatted the drugs and mind wipes better.
This is an excellent sequel to “Eomix Galaxy Books: Illusion.” Christa Yelich-Koch does an amazing job of exploring the depths some would take to use Daith and her powers to rule the galaxy.
Written with skill and paced well, this is a fantastic sci-fi read. I recommend both books in the series for fans of adventure and intrigue set in space.
I listen to a lot of audio books. Most of them I will mercilessly shut off as soon as I park or anything else comes up. Not this one. This is "driveway listening." Like... do I really have other stuff I need to do (yes, sadly). I like the increased number of moving pieces in this part of the story, and I think the author (it seems weird to direct this review in that way?? Hi, Christa) had more space to showcase her imagination in terms of settings and descriptions.
What I like best is that we get to see the reasons folks do the things they do. People aren't just good because of their inherent angelic nature, nor are villains just evil for the sake of the eevulz. They have histories that they carry around and that influence their decisions, whether good or bad.
The judge is great but Opute is still my favorite.
