Thoroughly delightful read that depicts the life of well to do Haitians of a bygone era, an era that is quite unknown to the Haitians of today, if not inconceivable or unimaginable....The way each character is portrayed and the attention to details really sunk you into what feels like a different universe. I'm very proud of this book and of its sheer brilliance

The main character is a senator. It's interesting to watch his progression as a character from the beginning of the book to the end. However, what I found most interesting was the details about Haitian life at the turn of the century and the portrayal of the Haitian community in Paris.
