Join Stormy the Cat Along With Christie Jamieson and Quinn Armstrong on Their First Three Mysteries in Vancouver, British Columbia
Stormy the Cat has a secret . . .
BOOK 1: The Cat Came Back - Young mother Christy Jamieson just learned her husband, Frank, embezzled his trust fund, sold their Vancouver mansion, and ran off with a socialite. Worse, Frank's trustees are telling Christy to let them handle it. But they aren't doing anything, and Frank's enemies are coming after her and her daughter. Desperate to find Frank and fend off his enemies, Christy asks Quinn for help. His price: the dirt on Frank. But the closer Christy and Quinn get to the dangerous truth, the more convinced they become that only the one who knows where Frank is at, is Stormy the Cat.
BOOK 2: The Cat's Paw - Christy Jamieson has just confronted the person who murdered her husband Frank, when Frank's wealthy Aunt Ellen arrives unexpectedly, suitcase in-hand. Ellen's home has become a crime scene and she intends to stay with Christy. No one is happy, but the most furious member of the Jamieson household is Stormy the Cat. Wanting the woman out of her hair, Christy investigates with journalist-friend Quinn, only to discover the body on Aunt Ellen's terrace was the woman who alibied the person complicit in Frank's murder. But the deeper Christy and Quinn dig into the connection between the dead woman and Aunt Ellen, the clearer it becomes that the only one who can unravel the truth is Stormy the Cat.
BOOK 3: Cat Got Your Tongue - When the rock concert Christy and Quinn are enjoying ends in a murder, the sleuthing couple are pulled into the case. Hot on the trail of a primary suspect, they discover the band's manager has also been found dead. Are the two murders connected, or are there two killers? Unfortunately, the only eye-witness--Stormy the Cat--is holding his tongue.
Publisher Note: The 9 Lives Cozy Mysteries, while containing some mild profanity, will be enjoyed by readers of clean and wholesome cozy mysteries.
I generally like mysteries with animals in them. This was my first book by this author. The plot was ingenious and there were plenty of suspects. But, after I finished it, I just had no desire to have anything more to do with the characters that I assume will be in the other books. That usually doesn't happen. Most of the time, I can't wait to read about the next adventures of the main character. This time, I really didn't care about her life. Maybe I'll go back at some point and try another book by this author, because the mystery part was well-done.
The premise of a spirit occupying a cat was somewhat engaging, but if I never hear of "raised eyebrows" and putting on "a leather jacket" again, I won't be disappointed! The author should either change editors, or read her own writing at the very least, before publishing.
This box set contains the first three books in a cozy mystery series. A cat containing the essence of a murdered man able to communicate w/ humans should have been up my alley, but these mysteries were clunky and S-L-O-W. There was far too much navel-gazing amongst the major characters, and I did not like some of the sexier scenes: they might as well have been bodice-rippers instead of cozy mysteries.
Anyway, in book #1, Frank Jamieson is missing and his family trust has been embezzled, apparently by Frank who is supposedly partying in Mexico w/ a bimbo, leaving his wife, Christy, and daughter, Noelle, high and dry and suspects in the embezzlement. Christy figures Frank must be dead when she starts hearing his voice in her head whenever their cat, Stormy, is around. However— we don’t even meet said cat until ch 11, a long wait to meet the star of the series.
A persistent reporter keeps hounding Christy for an interview. This is Quinn, who becomes the good guy of the books. Quinn and his aging-hippie father, Roy, share a condo in the neighborhood that Christy and Noelle are forced to move to when they are kicked out of the Jamieson mansion. It soon turns out that Quinn and Frank’s Bitchy Aunt Ellen are the only people who can’t hear Frank’s voice. This is the cause of some comedy in the books. Christy finds the embezzlers and Frank’s probable murderer w/ Frank’s help.
In Book #2, a woman’s body is found on the terrace of Aunt Ellen’s condo. This woman was a PhD student at the local uni, while also being a bimbo girlfriend of the local sleaze who provided Frank w/ drugs. Christy and Quinn have to solve this murder to save Aunt Ellen from a murder rap—even though she’s moved in w/ Christy, to Christy’s consternation. I didn’t Care for the dead girl’s character assassination and then attempt at rehabilitation. Just paint her as high-achieving student or as bimbo: don’t confuse me.
In Book#3, the whole gang has to solve two murders peripherally associated w/ Christy’s favorite band; one of the band members is the son of Roy’s friend-and Ellen’s attorney-so this is how they get involved. The twist here is that Stormy/Frank witness the second murder, so Frank stops talking. This means that the others have to solve the murders on their own—until Frank starts talking again to save Aunt Ellen’s life. Sigh. Christy and Quinn break up after finally resolving the sexual tension of the first two books. This all reads as really superficial and false. Just talk to each other for God’s sake!!
Anyway, maybe you’ll like the overly-descriptive-at-the-wrong-time passages and the slowness of these stories better than I did. The scenes w/ dialogue were good, but the rest just couldn’t be redeemed by the well-done dialogue, nor by the fact that I did not guess the identity of the killers until told. I rounded up to three stars, b/c other people might like the pace and clunky descriptive passages better than I did.
First off, I really dislike that my kindle doesn't record ALL the stars I give -- usually when I have a 5-star read like this one. I love getting these boxed sets. This one was worth every penny I paid -- and more. Christy is an amazing woman, Quinn is a fantastic man (and apparently gorgeous as well). Both are intelligent, very believable. I love also the transitions they make in their attitudes and emotions, as well as the transition of Christy's aunt-in-law from stone-heart to . . . well, you have to read the whole set. And with the peek at Book 4 given, you'll be as hooked as I am. I have a new fave in Louise Clark.
I gave a five stars There was nothing that I didn't like. I read the first three books and just down loaded the fourth one .Can't wait to start reading .Love these books!
After I got used to the plot point that a dead man had taken residence in a cat, I was able to enjoy the story. Good murder mysteries and I’m happy I got the set. Good reading.
Beginning of this book is interesting but when a cat involved and start talking to people with telepathy. It becomes waste of time. In order to finish part one I skipped lots of sections to avoid those cat talking. I didn't expected it to electronic kids book.
The talking cat and odd teenage-like romance take away from what could be a good series. Roy is my favorite character; reminds me of my uncle Ray (interesting, huh?).
The 9 Lives Cozy Mystery Boxed Set, book 1-3: Three Complete Cozy Mysteries in One [Kindle Unlimited] — Louise Clark July 1-12, 2021
Three cozy mysteries featuring a cat that telepathically speaks to three known persons.
I will do a quick review here of each book, with a more in-depth review under book titles.
Book 1: The Cat Came Back (20 chapters) July 1-6, 2021 Story started slow, with a lot of content that could’ve been edited out. The special cat, Stormy, appears right away but disappears until much later in the book. Stormy steals all the scenes, except I really liked Noelle too. Two stars.
Book 2: The Cat’s Paw (29 chapters) July 6-8, 2021 A much better story, this plot focus’ on Frank’s Aunt Ellen, who wakes to the sounds of a break-in and then runs out. Stormy steals the scenes, but with the introduction of a new character, Christy unique family is starting to come together. Very enjoyable read and glad I read it. Three stars.
Book 3: Cat Got Your Tongue (35 chapters) July 8-12 By far the best book in this series. The plot moves quickly, and although there are still draggy places, Stormy’s issue really moved the story along. The plot involves a musician and a murder or two that might be related. As Christy and Quinn grow closer, Stormy witnesses something that really shakes him up. This is a great story to end this trilogy set. Four stars.
There were some inconsistencies in each story, most involving draggy places that a good editor could clean up and make them read more coherent. However, while I started out not sure if I was going to end up liking this series or not, I did end up liking it. Well, at least the third one. In that one, the author seems to finally feel comfortable with the characters and the interactions between each other.
If you like talking animals and cozy mysteries, give this series a go. And stick with it awhile. You may be glad in the end you did.
I was looking for something light to read after reading several heavy books, and the Nine Lives Cozy Mystery series fit that need until the third book. The premise of a cat being inhabited by the spirit of one of the characters was an interesting concept, but felt like the third book was really stretching it. I also found the third book disappointing due to the number of grammatical and sentence structure errors which took away even more from the story.
A possessed cat, what a crazy idea. It is fun and interesting to read this series. The cat, Stormy, is possessed by Frank who was a spoiled rich man who was murdered. His wife, Christy and daughter Nichole and several others can hear Frank. What a delightful and fun book series. I totally love the characters and the plots.
I really enjoyed these three books. Often, I become bored after reading one or two books in a series back to back. Not with this series. I will probably look for books 4 and 5. The series is that good. I like the characters. The plot has lots of detail. The solutions were not obvious, at least to me. There are plenty of twists and turns while life goes on.
It's always interesting whenever people from different social classes and professions end up having to interact with each other. Throw in a murder and or mystery and the plot thickens. I enjoyed the first three stories and read them one after another . that is a testament in itself to a good mystery.
If you like mysteries and love cats, this if the series for you. The characters were delightful and by the second book I was totally hooked and could not wait for the next book.
Very fun stories. The ideas behind the plot is interesting. It is funny and exciting the closer it comes to a conclusion. Recommend to all that like mysteries with pets included in the solution.
Yes...I finally finished the set. It was a good story but it became hard to follow the deeper into the set I got. Characters were under developed and hard to keep track. But the like I said the story was good.
Third in the series. I have enjoyed reading all three but there were a couple areas that were a little repetitive, regarding Christy & Quinn. I will eventually buy the next in the seriy.
Friends and family plus a mind-talking cat come together to solve murders. Famous rockers join the group for get-togethers that end in murder. A lawyer, aunt, a writer, and star-crossed lovers come together to find and capture the bad guys.
I’ve been wondering. Stormy is a middle aged cat. If he dies, what then? Growing to enjoy the characters, but Quinn did not endear himself to me. Yes, I’d like to follow up on this crew.
