After reading the first chapter I had to double check this wasn't Alex Lidell Power of Five fan fic... It just kept reading like a rip off of Power of Five. You have 4 fae warriors that have been together for centuries, one of them is a really quiet one named Cole and a boisterous one named Tyler, just like Power of Five... The world is called Lunaria, while Power of Five is in Lunos... In both stories, the 4 fae warriors seek out a prophesized special human women... In both stories, they are battling the demons/Mors that are getting into their world from another dimension. The warriors need to bring the human back to their realm for training, just like in Power of Five. The one big difference is that "Guardians of the Fae" is a lot more over the top and superficial. I think at this point I'm going to DNF.

Picked this up off audible to listen to. I wasn't a huge fan of the narration due to the fact that it seemed I kept finding myself getting distracted. The book itself has some really interesting stuff brewing however, despite the fact that the narrator for some odd reason had my mind wondering.

We have an interesting world build here where some supernatural races have made themselves known but there is a lot of political unrest as vampires, shifters, and humans try to find their niches in this newly exposed supernatural world. Our FMC Eve, is a police detective charged with keeping supernaturals on the right side of the law with the help of some fancy technology that puts humans on more solid ground with the supernaturals "powers." Eve is finally making headway on a case revealing vampires becoming more and more aggressive as well as making some sort of organized attack against the city, when things in Eve's life get tipped upside down. It seems Eve is more a part of this supernatural world than she first thought.. a halfling and her powers could mean the end of the world if not used properly. Luckily for Eve there are these 4 handsome guardians sent to keep Eve from opening up portals to hell.. basically, and she has all kinds of a connection with them. But no one knows just how far Eve's powers will go to keep her newly discovered men...

I feel like this is a series I may want to continue in the future but with physicals. Not sure why the audio just didn't enthrall me but with everything that is happening I feel like maybe it just didn't do the book enough justice. I'm going to be on the lookout for the rest of the series though.

I am in love with this new series. Elizabeth Hartwell brings you into the Fae world. You have three worlds, the Fae, demon, and earth. When the barrier starts getting weak the fae needs to find out why.

When they find out that there is a fae halfbreed on earth the fae queen sends her trusted warriors there to find and bring her to the fae realm. But when Tyler, Cole, Noah, and Jacob go to earth and meet Eve things change.

Eve is a strong woman. She is a paranormal detective. She is up to her head in vamps and demons and now she is surrounded by fae's that she had no idea about. Not only that they tell her she is a half breed. She always assumed she was human.

This is a must read paranormal! I am excited to see what is next.

Overall Rating ★★★★
Plot ★★★
Humor ★★★
Characters & Character Development ★★★
Narration ★★★★★

Characters: Eve, Noah, Tyler, Jacob and Cole

Story: I really wanted to enjoy this book so much more than I did. The main character annoyed me a lot by putting herself in danger over and over again. Even when Eve knew there was nothing she could do and knew that her decisions weren't smart, she still went ahead with her bad ideas. The plot as well didn't hold my interest. The concept was good, but as I got into it, it became more and more difficult for me to finish.

Narration: Melissa Moran, Aaron Shedlock - Narration was amazing. I love Melissa and most of the narration was her.

DNF 60% Completed.

The MC is bullheaded and irritating. She can believe that Werewolves and Vampires exist but NOT Fairies??

The Gardens relationship with the Queen is really confusing. They can have sex with women but not a relationship. Because the Queen, may or may not, want to spend ONE night with them. So if they commit to another woman she would be jealous or question there loyalty????

This book was a bad first draft. I am sorry to say I didn't believe the low star reviews because the synopsis was intriguing so I read it anyway. I am a very gullible reader I want to be pulled into the the Authors world. That did not and could not happen with this book. The plot and character were NOT believable

Believe in the bad reviews.

Dnf 5% because I'd already come across too many serious book turnoffs.

1. The prologue begins with flowery descriptions of how inhuman the fae characters are, and then we learn the first of these wildly inhuman names: Tyler. Excuse me? That very human name was so jarring after the previous descriptions that it took me completely ot of the story.

2. The author compares a fae's staff to a baseball bat. I hadn't seen any indication of the modern human world (and thus baseball) existing in this book world.

3. "'Are you insane?' Cole asks, placing his hand on the handle of his sword. He’s often teased by his friends for his formal speech, and they know that when the ‘thees’ stop, the blood starts to flow." Well how nice, but guess what? "Thee" and other related words such as "thou" hadn't shown up once before this point, so everything about that quote was distracting and alienating.

Yeah, if I'm this put off by the first 5% (didn't even make it all the way through the prologue), I don't see this getting better.

Guardians of the Magic by Elizabeth Hartwell a five-star read that you will want to guard. What a read, you will get sucked into the world and come out blinking at the end wondering where it went. Eve was such a strong character, you will feel her power coming off the page. What a great new adventure for this author, I for one can’t wait to see where this series will go.

Okay, so I *really* wanted to like Guardians of Magic. It has so many elements I absolutely love! Fantasy? Check. Supernatural? Check. Vampires? Check. Hot men? Check, check, check, and check. Unfortunately, I only made it 55% thru the book before finally throwing in the towel and giving up.

Eve, a Para Detective for the 54th Precinct is on the hunt for a serial killer she assumes is a vampire, tho the victims while drained of blood, do not have the telltale fang puncture marks. Whilst investigating, she runs afoul of a vampire she suspects might either be the killer or knows who may be. Just before she gets really harmed, four hunky men appear from out of nowhere and not only kill said suspect, but tell her that she is not entirely human either, and her very existence is causing a major shift in the veil between her world and theirs. Finding out that she is half fae and half human explains a lot to Eve, especially in regard to recent events. Tho, she is slow to come to terms with her new heritage, and the instant attraction she feels to the four fae warriors who have sworn to protect her until they can take her back to their world with them for training in order to harness her massive (and unheard of in a halfling) anomalous powers.

This book has so much potential, but suffers greatly from poor editing, and continuity issues. I confess that first person writing drives me up the wall, and is usually a huge deterrent. But, if done well, I can look past it. Unfortunately, the first person voice is inconsistent and makes things a bit confusing in several places. Also, one of the guardians is supposed to speak formally, quite similar to an Olde English dialect where they say “thee” and “thou” a lot. The problem here is that even tho it is brought up on occasion that he speaks this way, he only uses this pattern once, and also incorporates contractions in his speech in such a juxtaposition with the formal nature of the dialect he is described as using.

Again tho, I must point out that this book absolutely has a ton of potential. And, if I ever get word that the book has been revised and edited properly, I would jump at the chance to read it again (provided that the POV changes from first person as well). Well, as long as the book does not end in a cliffhanger, of which I heavily suspect it does. But this is simply a guess, since I did not finish the book in the first place.

As with all my low scoring reviews, this is merely my opinion. I do encourage you to form your own opinion. And, if your take on the book is different than mine, I am quite happy for you.

Oh, My

Faeries, demons, vampires and shifters. Oh, my! That was FANTASTIC. What is Eve Carter? She's a paranormal detective and so much more. She's dedicated, honest, and oh so deadly. Great beginning to what I'm sure will be a great series.

Good storyline

Ok the plot was nice, great action. It just lacked something... maybe depth from the characters. I didn't really become attached to anyone and Eve made so many crappy decisions. It just needed more than insta-love.

The story line holds so much promise, unfortunately the writing style was not my cup of tea.
2 things threw it off for me; 1 parts of the dialogue style where jarringly different without a seemingly plausible reason for the shifts and 2 the story felt sluggish.

I'm just gonna say there are so much better Rh books out there. I read all the way to the end of this first book just to find out what happened, but I also skipped a lot of parts. I listened to the audiobook and I basically did the audiobook version of skimming. The FMC. Annoyed me so much. It was refreshing that she wasn't one of those FMC who are like. "no way this is real "but I suppose that is to be expected because she does live in a world where par Ormel creatures exist. Also, I appreciate the political talk About paranormal being lynched and unjustly, arrested and stuff. But Eve is a cop and she's bad at it. Also, the name para justice squad is kind of corny, I'm sorry 😭 but what annoyed me the most was towards the end. For a detective, she was really bad at it and didn't even recognize the trap that she was walking into. I think that after being wrongly accused of something you'd be more cautious, but no, not for this girl. And some thing that really annoyed me as well was the queen thing, about her owning the bodies of the four guardians. That's kind of why I decided not to continue reading the series because I wasn't in the mental space to handle a character like queen casina and her Lacys L O L sorry for any misspellings, I am blind and only dictating this review. Asterisk LACKEYS.

I think it had potential with all the politics going on, but I think it was executed poorly. I can see why this is enjoyable for a lot of people, but I guess it's just not my speed.

Oh, and also, it annoyed me so much that eve didn't recognize power dynamics, or understand the reasons why there was political unrest. Like with all the lynchings and harassment going on, you would think she would be a little more conscious or at least a little more educated about it. But then again, she is still a cop And cops don't really care about all of that. I guess I just expected a lot from a main character who went through so much.

Also, just gonna add that I only read this for Melissa Moran. She's one of my favorite audiobook narrators. This review is a mess because dating doesn't really allow for cohesiveness all that much because I have to stop for every sentence just to check if it was typed properly. *Dictating

Guardians of Magic is set in a world where vampires and werewolves are out of the closet. Eve is a paranormal detective, investigating some shady vampires. During this, she experiences headaches and starts hearing things. Then when she does something incredibly stupid (I mean come on, going off on your own while dealing with vampires???) and meets the fae guardians, Noah, Tyler, Jacob and Cole. The fae help her when her blossoming powers start going haywire and she gets in hot water with her coworkers. In the aftermath, she grows close with the fae and learns more about her parentage and her powers.
This was a super interesting take on what happens when the humans find out about the paranormal. Sometimes it can be weird, but this was (in my opinion) a pretty realistic depiction of what would happen, lots of laws and regulations. (Felt a bit too on the nose if I'm honest). And Eve for sure did some stuff that almost classified her as too stupid to live, almost. I can kind of see where her overconfidence came from, being a cop she's trained and can fight... But still, vampires!

I loved the chapters from Eve's point of view, but the guardians were all lumped together and it made it a little confusing at times because I wasn't always sure whose head I was in. And Cole's voice was very confusing. He apparently has a very formal speech pattern, but he will often use contractions, and it makes his lines somewhat hard to read which is really unfortunate, because his backstory was really interesting, and I want to know more.

All in all, this was a really good story. It was unique and finding a story like that is super special. And I loved the twist at the end. I'm super good at guessing twists, but this one was completely unexpected. And that made the story all the better, so I'm super excited to see what happens next because it could be a wild ride.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Oh.My.God!! What a book.

I must admit that I have never read a paranormal romance as they have never interested me before. Boy, am I regretting that now!

For obvious reasons this book was so different to anything I have ever read. This was a story filled with mystery, intrigue and lots of suspense. It took a while however to acclimatise myself to this fascinating magical world and its different kinds of paranormal beings but I was quickly fascinated, captivated and I plunged straight into this story. I devoured this in one sitting - I simply could not get enough!!

The plot is so unbelievably thrilling, suspenseful so that it is practically impossible to take the smallest break whilst reading. It made me hold my breath on several occasions!

Eve, the heroine in this book, is a detective in another division of the police who polices the Old Haven where the paranormal live and the vampires go against the law. Jacob, Noah, Cole and Tyler are part of the Queen’s Guard who are tasked to find Eve and find and discover her mysterious powers.

As she battles the vampire uprising who are dead set on going against the law, someone behind the scenes is doing what they can to see her dead. As the hotness between the four Fae and Eve hots up, the world explodes as vampires come out to fight with their Lord, when an even more powerful demon appears (whose identity I never saw coming!) and a huge battle commences.

I was on tenterhooks to discover who was plotting against Eve. I had my suspicions but was completely wrong!

In the end this finished with a heart stopping cliffhanger. I, for one, simply cannot wait for the next book as it can only get better.

I was gifted an ARC for my honest review.

This a wonderful story about Fae’s and their world and Eve who has been raised a human who is a halfing. Eve has never known her parents and was lucky to be adopted by a loving family and have a younger sister. One fateful day their parents die in a horrible crash and they girls end up in an orphanage together as the Para Wars have begun. Vampires and wolves are real and Haven is having trouble with all the new beings. Eve believes she is doing good by becoming a detective who investigates the crimes committed by the paranormals. The Queen of the Fae has knowledge that Eve has fae powers and wants her brought back to her realm so she can learn how to use them and keep the 3 realms from losing their shields. She sends Noah, Jacob, Tyler, Cole and Noah to bring Eve back. Once they find Eve she is more than they thought a halfing could be and find themselves and agreeing to help Eve rid her hometown of the evilness prior to leaving and making sure her sister is safe. There are unseen twist, evilness, good and some very special Fae men who live to protect and make Eve happy. I enjoyed how each Fae comes with his own way of making Eve feel special and loved. Can Eve deal with all the fallout once her town has become safe and she is ready to learn her powers? I am anxiously awaiting the next story. I enjoyed the book and characters, oh and especially the weapons...what can I say, sexy fae men with some awesome daggers, bows, swords and staffs? I'm in. A half human/half fay Eve doesn't know what hits here when they come into her life. The premise was interesting and kept me intrigued because I didn't quite know what to expect. I think this is the author's first book and I really hope that her writing grows more as she writes. Some of the descriptors were overly repetitive (like how often in four pages do we need to hear how hot the guys are) and we are repeatedly told basic information over the course of the book (like the guards' service to the queen), which gets a little annoying because it takes away from the story line. There are also some minor inconsistencies that distracted me as well within the plot line. So while I enjoyed the book I was frustrated from being pulled out of it several times. I like to connect with the Eve and the guys, and the human and fae realm. I feel like as the writing evolves, so will the characters and the world the author created. I hope to see more writing from her in the future, and I will read her books again. I liked the book, the story and the characters, but there is a lot of room for growth. Good first book.

I love discovering new or new to me authors. Elizabeth Hartwell falls into the latter category. Based on her Guardians of Magic (Guardians of the Fae Book 1) though, she’s definitely an author I’m in need of becoming better acquainted with. This is a really fun reverse harem (guilty pleasure) paranormal fantasy romance (hit the trifecta of favorite genres there) mashup. It’s well written and with a great plot that looks to be the start of what I expect will be a wonderful overarching story arc. Eve Carter is really a perfect heroine for this book (and series), with just the kind of approach to life, the universe and everything (yes, I know I borrowed that line) that I adore. Add in fantastically yummy Noah, Tyler, Jacob and Cole, her Fae Guardians, and a great roller coaster of an exciting (and well written) adventure backed by a great supporting cast, and the result is pure reader’s catnip. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

It’s kind of disturbing to know everybody has a dark and a light side. Yes of course I already knew that.
But when the strength of a person’s powers is so much greater than a normal human, the balance is more precarious.
This is a story about Eve, who has a quest to enforce the law and also to figure out where her roots lay.
Greater consequences because of the strong emotions, which influence her actions.

The different stories of the men leave me in awe of them.

A world where the paranormals are out in the open?
That is almost unimaginable, this book helps though.

Eve and her guardians discover strong connections and help each other in all kinds of ways.

NL:

Eve finds herself torn when she learns she is fae herself though she has been fighting them to keep the peace. She must decide if she will believe her new three hunky fae saviors or stay and protect her town and sister from the evil lurking - the most dangerous of all quite possibly being herself. Trapped in a web of lies and deception, and the arms of all three of her fae companions, Eve must conquer the threat on Earth in her own town before she can deal with the threat that's growing within her.

Guardians of Magic had more potential the further you read. The storyline itself while jumpy at times, had decent premise. Really the difficult part is the forced present tense and awkward first person. It made the flow of reading choppy and difficult at times. I found if I read faster, that I could focus on the story instead.

DNF at 50%.

This book was so slow and boring, and I didn't like any of the characters. You're first introduced to the 4 men who live in a fae realm and have an incredibly strange relationship with the queen they work for. Then the book shifts to the normal world where the heroine is on the police force where we get to experience the joys of sexism in the workplace and discrimination against paranormals. I don't know why I felt no investment in her world. Perhaps because the book opened in another world and I know she's going to find her destiny there rather than here? She feels instalust for the 4 guys but there wasn't good relationship development at all. I actually quit reading at the first sex scene because it seemed to come out of no where and I prefer a good emotional context for intimacy in romance books.

I probably would have enjoyed this book much better if the whole thing was from the MC's POV and we got to discover both worlds through her.

Oh damn was this book freaking good I didn't want to stop reading I wanted to keep going. Eve is a good cop believes in fighting for the good guy and doesn't take crap just happens to run into these 4 good-looking guy's that are fairies who were sent by their queen from the Fae realm to bring back this disturbance that's causing the realms to become thinner and it's letting demons into the human realm, but they soon find out that Eve is the problem she just doesn't know it..yet. This story literally sucked me in from start to finish and I didn't want it to stop. It was a page turning, captivating, so many twist and turns you didn't know who was telling the truth kinda book and it's only the first book in a 3 book series. I can't wait to read the next book.

This is just my opinion and my voluntary review

Eve stubborn, tough as nails and deeply caring for her sister and “her” city of Haven…
And her four guardians Cole, Jacob, Noah and Tyler… each one unique, each one hot as sin, each one devoted… swoon… .
And then all those different species… . Reading this book seems to awake every possible fairy tale, every possible atrocity story to life….
The different abilities of these different life forms are literally fantastic!

Eve and the Guardians will have you rethinking everything you know about the mystic. Having been raised in a orphanage, finding a place is a yearning for Eve. Her position as a Paranormal Detective just might be what leads her to discovering everything she could want to know. When there are a rash of supernatural killings in her small sleepy town, Eve knows she has to get to the bottom of it. She never expected her investigation to bring her face to face with the Guardians of Fae or that they would apparently be looking for her. Guardians Noah, Tyler, Jacob and Cole have a mission to bring Eve into the fold so that her powers can be tamed. But in a world where things aren’t always what they seem, it’s unsurprising that secrets and surprises are around every corner.

Elizabeth Hartwell is a new author to me and what a wonderful find!  This tells us the story of a paranormal detective, Eve, who realises that she seems to have a knack for knowing things. When she is on a search she finds out that fa Guardians Noah, Tyler, Jacob and Cole  are there to assist her. There have been some very suspicious paranormal murders taking place and they are here to help her and rescue her from a vampire attack.  What they didn't expect to find was HER.  These three s@xy men feel a connection to her that they can't ignore and she certainly doesn't want to ignore them.  plenty of passion, mystery and suspense in this great book.  I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of her stories. I received a reader's copy of this book and voluntarily leave my honest opinion of it here. Definitely Recommended

Guardians of Magic, book one in the Guardians of the Fae series.
Eve Carter is a detective with the Paranormal division when she begins to investigate a case of someone draining blood from their victims, so she goes searching in the Vampire areas of town when she is ambushed by her target. Guardians of the Fae Queen, Cole, Noah, Tyler and Jacob have been from the Fae realm to search for Eve and bring her back to learn how to use and control her powers, but what they didn’t expect was their reaction to her. When they rescue her from being attacked, they begin to teach her a little about her powers and feelings between all five of them begin to develop. But when Eve finds herself in trouble, will she make it out in time? And will she finally agree to go with the four Guardians back to the Fae realm?

Guardians of magic

This book had me addicted from the beginning. Eve is so powerful but so naive. She sees the world of the paranormal in black and white. To Eve the paranormal creatures are trouble makers and it’s her duty, as a paranormal police officer, to make sure they abide by the law. That is until she meets for fae men who turn her world upside down. She learns more about herself and paranormals than she ever thought possible and it changes her outlook completely. Throughout the book she is following a case on rogue vampires and the fae men help her crack it wide open! Unfortunately, she finds that someone she trusts is a traitor and has been manipulating her for years. This book had tons of action and sexy times. The cliffhanger at the end makes you immediately want to dive in to the next book.

Audio book review
This is my first Paranormal from the author. It’s a great Reverse Harem listen. This has some quick thinking scene . The mates each have a different purpose to protect their mate .
Heroine is Eve . Hero's are Noah with his staff, Tyler with his bow, Jacob with his dagger, Cole with his sword

Eve is a paranormal detective, who is out hunting Vampires. Little does Eve know who she really is and what her purpose is.
Eve meets a vampire that might or might not be part of the group that is draining the blood . Her four mates show up and save her .
There is a problem , her mates have sword to protect and be with Queen Cassina. Queen of the Fai
Grab it and see how the mates and Eve handle the Queen. Does the Queen come after Eve .

Melissa and Aaron were great together telling this story . Their voices are strong , clear and smooth.

The different abilities of these different life forms are literally fantastic!

I can’t wait to read the sequel to experience some more magic!

A definite must read for anyone that loves the paranormal world. Elizabeth Hartwell takes you on quite a ride in this full of action, steamy-lust filled story with all kinds of amazing paranormal creatures. Just when you think you have it figured out she does a 180 and leaves your head spinning.
Eve, the main character, finds out she’s a halfling; half human, half fairy, with powers she has no idea how to control or exactly how strong that power is. Four sexy, hot, guardian fairies are sent from the Fae world by the queen to find her and bring her back to fulfill an ancient prophecy. But all h*** breaks loose in Eve’s town and she’s right in the middle of it all.
Strap yourself in for this one and you might want to have a cold shower on standby.
