His dinner for one just got complicated.

Steven Atkinson moved back home to win his ex-girlfriend’s heart, only to find she’s fallen completely in love with someone else. With a Thanksgiving dinner ticket to his ex’s family dinner, he’s dreading showing up alone, pining over the one that got away.

Ginny Thompkins is ready to put herself out there, even if it is just about the scariest thing since IT crept out of the sewers. And the cute boy across the street wants her to be his date for Thanksgiving dinner with a bunch of strangers. Maybe it’s just the thing to get her to find that confidence for that opening position at work.

But when using each other for their own personal gain turns into an unbridled attraction, Steven and Ginny just may get way more than they bargained for.

This is second in a series and the couple from the previous is present (though not important) in this one. So this would be fine as a stand-alone, but since the first is better I don't recommend skipping.

I don't know what's wrong with me that I stuck this out. The first third of this book features a Ginny that is so cripplingly shy that she can barely breathe in public. It's so extreme that I was looking for some kind of past trauma to justify this character. As a result, her character makes exactly zero sense. Her motivations are convoluted with a long chain of intentions that may someday lead to a goal that is laughably impossible for a girl with crippling social anxiety. And here's the question I kept wondering: if she wants to be a therapist to help people like herself, then why in the name of everything holy is she not seeing a therapist to get herself some help!!! She has to resort to begging a guy to fix her and, in the course of the story, an emotional support dog? And while I say that she was extremely bad in the first third, her character doesn't make any better sense, even in the end.

My sole entre into the story is Steven. I like nice guys and the kind that cares about and for others is very much my jam. Steven is lovely and I was really glad that he came to her with a really thin fake girlfriend scheme because that neutered the whole savior complex thing that would otherwise have killed me. So he's getting over himself a bit and helping him brings Ginny out of a universe where a character like hers might actually exist (hint: not this one) and that kept me just content enough to keep reading. Barely.

So this is a 2½ stars that I'm rounding down because it offends me that an author thought Ginny might work as a character.

A note about Chaste: Ginny is 22 and never been kissed. So it's just as well that there's no sex in this story at all. There is a make out that goes with some partial nudity but details are slim and it doesn't last long. So while I will tag this chaste, it's likely that stricter readers will not agree.

I received a free copy through the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.

4.5 stars — Another super cute story by this new author… I just love the way she writes characters — they feel so real and relatable.

In this one we have Stephen, the ex from the first book…which, you don’t have to read the first book btw, it just gives a richer experience. But it stands alone just fine. Anyways, Stephen is this perpetual good guy, which makes him right up my alley. I don’t know why nice guys don’t get the same book boyfriend play as alpha jerks, but this readers loves a good to the core man, bonus points if he’s a little beta. So needless to say I enjoyed Stephen. He had a few moments where I was baffled by his lack of reaction to something (usually when we were in Ginny’s POV), and I wouldn’t have minded knowing what he was thinking in those moments. But on the whole he was sweet, thoughtful, adorably sexy, just a bit misguided. And who doesn’t love an animal lover? Seriously.

Ginny was the kind of character that just speaks to me…I never know why I’m drawn to certain characteristics. It’s not as though I can necessarily vibe with all of Ginny’s quirks, but I do empathize with them. She’s this chronically shy overthinker, who has a hard time putting herself out there. So yeah, she’s like an extreme Lenore. I was drawn to her from the start, and I just wanted good things to happen for her. I loved seeing her come into her own with the help of Stephen, and I appreciated that she wasn’t a doormat or anything.

And the two of them together were freaking adorable. It was kind of a hard romance to get involved in, because initially Stephen is hung up on someone else. But you get to watch them connect and have these moments, and you just want them to make it! And wow, that Thanksgiving kiss was hooowwweeeee!

This one had some great secondary characters, though they didn’t play a huge role… But my fave was definitely Grandpa!

The only downside for me is that I was surprised by the time jumps sometimes. We would finish a chapter and I would be wanting to know what the other character was thinking, only to have the next chapter start the next day or whatever. Sue me, I’m greedy. It’s the only reason I’m rounding down instead of up.

I can tell this is going to be a super fun series, and I’m loving all the subtle ways the characters from each of them are woven together. Very sneaky!

Steven moved back to his hometown to be close to his first love as well as his family. Within a few weeks, he realizes that the one he is in love with doesn't love him anymore and moved on to someone else.

Ginny needs to get a promotion out of the mailroom where she works and into a bigger role in the marketing firm she works for. The problem is, she is very socially awkward and suffers from social anxiety and the person that they need to fill the new position needs to be more outgoing and be able to relate and woo their clientele.

Steven's ex asks him to be at Thanksgiving dinner where he will meet her new boyfriend and instead of declining, he makes up a girlfriend so that he doesn't seem like he came back into town for his ex. Steven asks Ginny to help him out with the dinner and in exchange she asks him to help her become more at ease around people and be more confident in herself so that she can get that promotion and pay raise she needs.

Will these two end up falling for each other while trying to convince his ex that he is over her?

I loved that these two people gravitated towards each other and that Ginny's anxiety and social awkwardness fades as she becomes more comfortable with Steven and Cocoa. There were a couple of moments in the book that I was expecting to hear about the outcome. For example, did Ginny finally get the promotion or not? The reader is left to wonder if she did get it or not, especially since at one point it was mentioned she needed the money the raise would give her to help her make her rent.

This book is the perfect book for me to read when I want something quick and witty without the subject matter being too heavy.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.

Everyone knows that Thanksgiving can be an awkward family holiday, try having Thanksgiving with your family and the ex you are still in love with family. Steven’s Thanksgiving plans got a little complicated when he told his ex, Cassidy, that he had a girlfriend and they would both be at Thanksgiving dinner in 3 weeks. Just one little problem, Steven didn’t have a girlfriend.

Ginny is Steven’s social awkward but beautiful neighbour. Steven finds out that she has no plans for Thanksgiving and invites her to join him and to be his “fake” girlfriend. In return, Steven will help Ginny become more confident so we can get a promotion at her job, a promotion she desperately needs.

I loved watching Ginny come out of her shell with the help of Steven and sweet little Cocoa Puff. She still had the shyness to her, but she was able to interact with others without completely shutting down. Ginny is a character that anything can easily relate to, because who doesn’t experience social anxiety from time to time. Steven on the other hand, I wasn’t a big fan of him in the beginning. I hated that he kept telling Ginny he was still in love with his ex and would spend more time talking to her than the girl who was suppose to be his “girlfriend”. Thankfully, Steven did redeem himself and by the end of the story I loved him.

I love how this series is following the same group of people through the various holidays and I can’t wait to see what Christmas has in store.

Steven moved back home for one reason, to finally win back his high school sweetheart and best friend. His plans are derailed when she announces she's bringing her boyfriend to their families' annual Thanksgiving celebration. His life gets even more complex when he blurts out that he's bringing his girlfriend too...whom he doesn't have.

Using the word shy to describe Ginny feels like an understatement. But she has a plan, and the guts to try anything to accomplish it: get a better paying job, go back to school, become a therapist to help others like herself. When she practices hospitality and small talk on her neighbor Steven, she's not prepared for his proposition of being his fake date to Thanksgiving dinner. Ginny wants to say no, but wonders if Steven's natural charisma and courage could rub off on her.

This fake dating plot was so refreshing because it WASN'T mixed with enemies to lovers. In fact, the strangers to friends to more was so sweet my heart swooned! I could not get over the absolute sweetness of Steven with Ginny and how her personality blossomed as she trusted him. Throw in the demon puppies and sweet Cocoa and I was head over heels.

Even beyond the main characters, I loved the rest of the cast too. Grandpa was the absolute best chaos, Alex was oddly endearing, Jemma held that sister vibe well...

I can't wait to continue this series!

Across the Street #2 - Perfect addition to After the Night. Another well written, sweet romance between Cassie's best friend Steven and wallflower Ginny. They both need each other and have three weeks to make things work.

Adding to the interesting characters are three sweet furballs of love that enhance this lovely, clean story even more. The storylines keeps the reader lost in the pages as love and confidence grow steady for this couple. I contacted the author to review her books. 5*

After the Night #1 - This is my first read by this author and I had fun reading it. Don't care too much about this age group (twenties), but Sandra did a delightful job telling this story about two "ugly ducklings" that haven't turned into swans yet, or two nerds actually that are perfect for each other. After having a cute meet at the company's Halloween party, she tries to find out who he is as he tries to tell her it was him.

The supporting cast add to the fun of the story. There's even a mystery to boot. Well written, funny and full of goofs, clumsy actions and misunderstanding. Needs minor editing. 4*

5 Stars! 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁

I loved Across the Street. I knew I would enjoy Stevens story when he was introduced in After the Night. I actually enjoyed this one more than the first book in the series. It just seemed that the authors writing style grew. Not that After the Night wasn’t good, it definitely was, I just liked this one better. The story flowed perfectly.

Steven and Ginny relationship is perfect. You slowly get to see them falling for each other, no instalove and that means more I think. Almost like you are right there in the story with them, feeling every bit of what the characters are feeling. Fantastic writing!!

If I HAD to pick something to change, it would be the ending. It felt a bit rushed, and though there was a HEA, there is also a bit of a cliffhanger. Hopefully this is touched on in the 3rd book since that one will feature Alex, Ginny’s co-Worker.

Can’t wait to read more in this series. I’m officially hooked! :)

I recommend reading After the Night first, as this book is a continuation for some of the characters.
Steven is Cassidy's ex boyfriend, and he hasn't told her yet that he basically moved back because he still loves her. When Cassidy starts dating Jon, Steven knows their annual family Thanksgiving gathering is going to be weird. So Steven finds Ginny, his neighbor across the street, and she agrees to pretend to be his girlfriend at Thanksgiving dinner. Ginny comes up with a request for Steven to help her with in return.
Another really sweet book, and I love that this series is set during the holidays. I loved watching Ginny and Steven bring out the best in each other, and for pet lovers, Steven works at the local animal shelter and has two puppies, so there are lots of adorable scenes with animals. I think maybe I liked this better than the first, and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I wavered between two and three stars, upgraded just because it featured rescue animals.
I had some issues with it. Ginny is painfully shy. She has a degree that she doesn't use and works in a Mailroom. She wants to go back to school and study so she can be a therapist for people like her, she comes up with the idea of Steven helping her achieve the confidence to do that. I dunno, wouldn't someone who has the issues she has need actual therapy herself first before she could achieve this? Not just hanging out with some random dude who happens to not be painfully shy.
Also she gets a dog that she decides will be her emotional support dog, it doesn't work like that therapy dogs undergo special training so that they can accompany their owners everywhere.
It was nice enough story but hard to buy into at times.

This was a sweet story about Steven, who wants to let his ex know that he is fine and moving on. It's also about Ginny, who has a high level of anxiety. Both characters have hang-ups and the fact that they enter into a fake relationship just made their interactions fun to watch. Steven is a tender-hearted man that works with animals at the shelter. I like his patience when he is around Ginny. I like that Ginny was getting out of her comfort zone with Steven. The chemistry between the two was great as well. They had a lot of work to do to make their fake relationship real; which made the line blurry between fake and real. This was a fun story and I recommend to those that like stories about fake relationships and a little heat in their romances.

Across the Street is an absolute delight to read. It has sweet, believable characters and a HEA leaving you with a warm glow on the inside.

Steven is a quintessential nice guy and Ginny is a shy and somewhat nervous girl who lives across the road from him. They strike up a friendship and Steven asks Ginny to come along to a Thanksgiving dinner with him, pretending to be his girlfriend. Ginny agrees with a condition of her own and in a lead up to Thanksgiving, they both bond and connect in a way neither of them had expected, with a few adorable puppies to help them along the way.

Sandra Marie has crafted this story beautifully along with great characters and I look forward to reading the next book in the Romance for all Seasons series.

A sweet read that warms the heart. Ginny is shy and lacks the confidence in herself to make her really shine. Steven is a sweet heart that is still holding on hope from the past. You meet Steven a little in After The Night as Cassidy's ex and still best friend. I love falling for your neighbor reads and this one did not disappoint. Ginny and Steven's relationship may not have started out as truly real but as you watched it grow you feel that something special. Throw in a crazy grandpa and loveable dogs and you have a winner in my book. This book is just amazing and keeps you in the holiday spirit.

Steven is still in love with his ex girlfriend, but she has moved on, so when she asks him to be friends he reluctantly accepts. But when she invites him to her family's Thanksgiving dinner, he's in desperate need of a fake girlfriend! His shy neighbor Ginny is perfect for the job! She'll pretend to be his girlfriend and he'll help her overcome her shyness. But as they spend more time together, they start to have feelings for each other. Are they willing to put their past behind and move on? A heartwarming and romantic story! Steven and Ginny discover that love is all they need to overcome their fears!

This was a cute, entertaining read. Steven is a nice young man working in an animal shelter that’s been in love with the same girl for years. Ginny works in a mailroom, even though she has her bachelors degree, because she is socially awkward. I loved the way Ginny becomes more confident with the help of Cocoa & Steven. Once she becomes comfortable around them, it helps her anxiety & panic. I felt Steven was clinging to his ex as a comfort too. He wasn’t “in love” with her as much as she’d always been there. This was a witty, fun quick read that was enjoyable to read.

This was an interesting story of young love and first love. Cassidy is very shy which draws one into her character. She lacks confidence until she adopts, Cocoa, a dog at the shelter , who is feeling neglected and shy because her owners gave her up and moved. Cassidy ad Cocoa develop a support system that benefits both of them. Add in the cute next door neighbor who has lost his one true love and has asked Cassidy to be his fake girlfriend for Thanksgiving and you have an interesting story. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Fake dating / Thanksgiving / Neighbors / Romance

⭐⭐ ⭐⭐/5

I enjoyed book number one of this series. It was a Halloween office romance. But, I really wasn't sure I wanted to read this character's book. The first book was about Cassidy and Jon, this book is about Steven Cassidy's ex (and best friend) and Ginny. There are certain things I didn't like about Steven in book one, that I still don't like about Steven now, but I enjoyed his story very much. This series is steamy but not spicy, So don't go in looking for it.

Steven needs to prove he's over his ex and Ginny needs some help coming out of her shell. So of course, they pair up and fake a relationship in hope of accomplishing both. This super sweet read will warm your heart as you watch cute, shy Ginny find herself and the ever lovable Steven realize that there is out there than his ex.

My only "thing" about this book, it ends on a tiny bit of a cliffhanger! I guess I'll just have to read the next one in the series...

I'm a sucker for holiday books and fake relationships so I was so excited for Across the Street!!

Steven needs to show that he's moved on from his ex-girlfriend so he decides to make up a girlfriend that he's going to bring with him to Thanksgiving dinner. Enter Ginny, the painfully shy girl who lives across the street. The month leading up to Thanksgiving builds their friendship and maybe their relationship isn't as fake as they both thought it was.

I was really impatient for Steven's story and I really enjoyed it. I did feel like I didn't get to know Ginny well enough but what I did learn of her, I absolutely loved. In such a short time, she grew more than any character I've read for a long time. I'm loving this series and I can't wait to see what Christmas brings!

Cute read for the holiday. I cant say I liked it quite as much as After the Night. I really liked Ginny, she was cute and determined which made it easy to root for her. I was a little disappointed in Steven though. I don't like that he was still in love with his ex. It made it difficult to really like him with Ginny. She deserved better than that and it was difficult for me to really be convinced that he was falling for Ginny. Overall a good book though. I will continue with the series!

This was a sweet and fun fake dating romance! I loved Ginny and Steven’s relationship and how he (and the doggy Cocoa) were able to pull her out of her shell and fully become herself. It was just so wholesome. 😍 Really enjoyed this story!

The reason for 4 stars was the content. There was a lot of cussing, and the romance, while there was no s*x scene, did get heated with them taking their shirts off and stuff. So not explicit, but too steamy for my taste.

Very sweet story about Steven and Ginny and several fur kids. The characters are very believable. I liked how the dog calmed Ginny anxiety. Cute plot with a fake relationship that starts to get Steven through Thanksgiving with the girl he has always loved. Nice supporting cast. Grandpa was a real gem. Fun romance that I enjoyed reading.

I love that we get Steven’s story for Thanksgiving. Sandra Marie is writing these sweet stories to get us through each holiday with a theme that we can all relate to. I really appreciate that they can be read as a standalone. Lots of sexual tension and anticipation, so be patient. Cute and real.

This book is so cute. To read about how Steven and Ginny come together it makes you feel like you are right there with them. Steven is “in love” with his ex girlfriend that has moved on and Ginny is so timid. Both characters are so real. I couldn’t put this book down! I love that Sandra is writing books for each holiday. She is a great author and I can’t wait for her next book.
