“They killed my family. My friends. When I had nothing left, they brought me here, for him to kill. But only once he’s finished playing his game of cat and mouse.”

Aspen:
I was stripped and put in a cell with a huge alien. He has been driven over the edge. He wants to kill me, but first he wants to destroy my mind. I can't give him a reason not to, but I won’t go down without a fight. He invades every part of me, forces me to call him Master, and subjects me to his mind control. I have nothing left to lose. He thinks he can break me. Can you break something that’s as wrecked as I am?

Keth:
Humans have taken everything from me: My home, my family, my wife, and they want to take my sanity. They’re afraid of me. Grande Pharma imprisoned me and subjected me to tests. They gave me mind control. But they hadn’t banked on me running my own psychological tests. My hypothesis was simple: What would it take to break the human women who kept getting sent in here to seduce me for information? I take them apart, piece by piece. Revel in destroying them. But Aspen is different. She’s feisty and resistant. Breaking her will be satisfying. But will she break me, first?

This is book one in the Unbreakable series but reads as a standalone.

Publisher’s Note: This is an extremely dark romance with graphic scenes, featuring a dominant alien who exerts mind control and a feisty, human heroine who refuses to give up. But there is an HEA.

Aria is an author of dark erotic romance. Her heroes are not always immediately obvious, and neither are the villains. Her books often have elements of horror, and the characters at the end of a story are forever changed by the events that befell them. But she always makes sure there's a happy ending, even if the characters have to work for it.

Aria also writes the warm fuzzy romance stuff as Katie Douglas.

Dark and Decadent

“Invaded” is a riveting dark sci-fi romance that took me out of my comfort zone and tested my limits. The initial chapters were absolutely spellbinding, reading more like sci-fi horror rather than romance. Well written and fast paced, I simply could not put the novel down, needing to know what would happen next. The world building was also very good with humanity entrapped in a dystopian future straight out of an Orwellian nightmare. The female protagonist is the perfect balance of both strength and surrender, with a dominant (alien) male protagonist who is completely redeemable. I also enjoyed the subtle but marked physical differences between the alien race and earthlings. The differences are just enough to imply alien or exotic but retains enough physical similarities to really elevate the attraction and heat factor. Surprisingly, the intimate encounters are minimal but erotically intense, with plenty of action and suspense to fill in the gaps. The story did feel a bit rushed in places, especially near the end and a slightly longer narrative may have strengthened the protagonist’s sentiments, actions and responses.

Overall, “Invaded” is a highly entertaining read and I look forward to the next installment within the Unbreakable Series. Although first in a series the novel reads as standalone story.

Invaded is the first book in the Unbreakable series. Keth has been a prisoner of the humans for too long, and now they’ve just thrown in a new toy. Aspen is like no other female before her, though, with her innocence, her desires to just be free, and the way she fights his dominance. Torn between wanting to break her, and all things human, or wanting to keep her safe, Keth and Aspen decide to fight. But even if they gain their freedom, do they have a future?

Ohhh my, this book was exactly what I needed to read and I’m actually mad at myself for waiting for so long to start this series! This book is dark, intense, but stunning in its creativity! I’m in awe of Ms. Adams’ imagination right now. Keth and Aspen make this crazy, unlikely team, but they fit so well together. Because of their circumstances, there’s a bond and trust formed between them that will be tested again and again. Keth is so angry at everything human, and takes his revenge as often as he can. He’s domineering, he’s cruel, he’s caring, and he’s possessive. Aspen denied her dreams about living outside of the Stack, but has always been rebellious. Their first meeting is not sweet, this book is not really romantic, it is in fact quite dark and manipulative, but there is a twistedly beautiful bond formed between Keth and Aspen that had me devouring the pages, begging to know what would come next for the characters, and excited for the next book in the series!

I just felt it was rushed. It was, “I’m doing this to you and this”. Now my feelings are confused about you. Oh now I love you. Didn’t do anything for me really.

YOU’RE CLEVER. CHOOSE. DEATH OR FREEDOM?

Warning, if you can’t handle extremely dark erotic horror, depraved, graphic scenes, ones that include gory details, is non-consensual, including rape and death, don’t read. This is NOT a sweet romance as most people want to see, it is a male alien captive and a female human captive placed together by Grande Pharma. They are both prisoners, and there is no trust—and one has greater control over the other. The story is a dystopian world, control by elitist.

Aspen Fearne has lived her life in the lower levels of The Stack and had watch atrocities happen to people she knows, including the death of her family. She has nothing to live for, yet nothing to lose either. She will become a guinea pig test subject of Grande Pharma Clinical Testing Center, referred to as Patient 1431.

Boran Keth is an Alaxain and has watched humans destroy his planet, his people, and kill his father and his wife. Once he was captured, he became Patient 220, and they want to know where his people are hiding. He only loathes humans and killing them is easy, no matter how many women they send as new subjects to try and get information, he kills them. But then they send in Aspen, and she is different.

The plot will have Aspen waking up in a pool of blood and gore and then she will see him, an alien, and knows her time living is soon to end. Keth finds Aspen different, but he doesn’t trust her, and he is determined to break and her as all the others sent before her, and then he will kill her. No matter what he does to her, the pain and humiliation he inflicts, she doesn’t succumb to him easily. She learns to call him master as he demands, but it is only as a means of survival. He will do cruel, depraved things to her body, use his mind-control to bend her to his will, but deep down, she is still a fighter, a survivor, and he respects her.

“I slumped against the chains, my wrists take my weight painfully, as I sobbed harder. I was trapped with a gigantic alien bent on bending me to his will, and who had the abilities and tools to make it happen. My resolve to not let this alien break me had crumbled. I realized it had never been within my control. He was going to do what he wanted with me, and I had no choice but to accept his mastery of my body. I just wanted a fair chance at life! Was it too f**king much to ask of the world?”

Keth will see a formidable opponent in Aspen, unlike the other women sent before her. She doesn’t capitulate to his demands to appease him, deep down, she is still a fighter. It is decided that together they have a chance to escape and are both willing to die trying rather than continue being test subjects of Grande Pharma.

“You’re the one with the weird voodoo mind control mojo. I’m just a regular human. I can’t read your thoughts.”

“He was crazy and angry, and evil, and I knew all that, but there was something truly beautiful, unique, and unusual blossoming within his tortured soul.”

The story will go from two prisoners against each other to teaming up to fight for their freedom. It will take two individuals who have trust issues with one another, agreeing to work in unison and escaping their prison. Will their trust lead to more? Will hate turn to respect and love?

“I’m claiming Aspen under the rite of Al’ai’gon’dir.”

The story includes graphic and explicit scenes, including non-consent, rape, mind-control, violence, with an extremely dark romance eventually. The story does end on a happier note and is the first in a series. Where the second book will go is unknown.

This is a quick, steamy read with some very dark moments and an intriguing plot line. The writing style is nice, I found the story easy to follow, with a good pace and a nice balance of dialogue and description.

I really liked Aspen, she is a survivor with a real inner strength. The only way to survive is to not trust anything, or anyone and to constantly fight against the odds. I wasn't so keen on Kesh at first, though this was more a deliberate part of the story rather than bad writing. His interactions and experiences with humans means he neither likes nor trusts them. Poor Aspen bears the brunt of this animosity and these scenes are definitely dark.

There was a lot of plot packed into this book and for me a few areas felt a little underdeveloped with parts of the story feeling rushed. Whilst I definitely felt the chemistry between Aspen and Kesh, I wasn't convinced it was anything more than lust. However I still very much enjoyed this dark and twisty romance and would read more by the author.

Cringe Worthy

No, just NO! I pride myself on finishing books once I start to read them, but this one was hard to stomach.
First off, the antagonist is the main male character, he is an alien who obviously has read every bad erotic dominance in the universe. The character is actually a cliché, and would be laughable except for the forced sex he has with the protagonist.
The protagonist is a eighteen year old virgin, who despite being a virgin and a captive sure gets into the forced sex. Did I mention FORCED sex, as in sexual assault by mind control and a shock collar for obedience.
The author lost me as the story jumped right into sexual abuse by the alien toward his human slave. As a reader I’m not going to forget the abuse as quickly as the protagonist did. I don’t recommend this book. I have read a ton of dark erotica, but this book is a ‘don’t waste your time’ one.
Now I do want to say the books plot had promise, as it was pretty unique, but the execution left me wondering why I bothered.

This book may just be a case of "It's not you; it's me", but I just couldn't get into it.

I was a bit confused by the beginning. In the prologue, they're putting the heroine through VR situations or something, and she keeps "waking up" and knowing they're false. But then we skip ahead to where she's been thrown in a cell with an alien they've captured. Perhaps this plot line comes back later in the book, but it was a bit disconnected for me.

The world building is a bit cliched as far as these dysopian, other planet, sci-fi books go. People are put into a hierarchy based on their birth, and everyone lives on different levels in the dome/building/whatever-it-is-they-live-in based on where they fall in society.

description

The writing is good enough that I could have gotten past the rehashed setting ideas if I had actually liked the relationship in this book. But I just didn't. There's just nothing likable about either of the MCs, and their relationship is more about torture than BDSM in my opinion. Perhaps I misunderstand what BDSM is, but I believe there should be some enjoyment on the side of the person receiving the "punishments", but Aspen is very clear that she doesn't like most of what is happening to her. I can handle a bit of dubious consent in these kinds of relationships, but pure torture? Nah.

description

I gave up on the book after the anal hook scene. Aspen clearly did not want it to happen, and Keth kept going way past what her boundary was. There was just no way that I could believe in a relationship between these two after knowing the Keth just honestly didn't give a crap about her.

And my other big problem with this book...Why the heck did Keth have access to so many freaking butt plugs? He was a freaking alien captive of the humans, and they were keeping him alive to find where the rest of his people lived on the planet. For what purpose would he need freaking butt plugs? No just one, multiple...of various sizes, shapes, and textures. Weirdest prison ever.

First off, this story just missed for me, I couldn't get into it much at all. I really don't think it was due because of the author, I think it just didn't catch my interest.
I thought overall the writing was good (although I felt several phrases, sayings, etc thought & uttered by a non-human alien were just too human), I liked the plot & the characters were interesting enough. The story revolves around Keth (alien H) & Aspen (human h) both captives of an Earth government on Keth's home planet. Keth was a rare alien capture & the Earthlings want to extract information from him & since they can't do it chemically or physically they figure they can have human women do so by sexual means. Of course, all he does is use them sexually until he shreds them apart & waits for his next 'toy' to destroy. This happens to be Aspen.
Aspen is only 18 yrs old but because of her nature & hard existence she is the 1st one to attempt to resist him & thereby catch his attention.
The plot then segues into Keth forcing his 'mastery' over Aspen by any means including his physical strength, mind controlling her physical body & impressing on her mind & her body she is his slave.
From there both Keth & Aspen are forced to decide if this Master/slave situation is emotional or only physical.
There is excitement, suspense, some sex (mainly anal in the beginning & one other sexual experience later on) & danger for Keth & Aspen as they try to work together against the Earth government to try & escape the prison hell in which they find themselves.
Again, I felt overall the writing & plot were good, just not something that grabbed me. I did think the author did an admirable job with the human world building that Aspen came from but the alien world building of Keth's people seemed flat: their lifestyle was very basic & pretechnology, based on a village concept. Also the species interaction seemed very formula to me: evil destructive abusive humans, wise kind noble aliens. I did want the H/h to have a HEA but I was never invested in their characters & felt detached from the story but I think that was just me. If you like alien Master/human slave plots, you may like this one too.

~ The toy he couldn’t break ~

Aspen Fearne’s family had settled The Stack on Alaxis, a new planet which was already overcrowded.  Labeled as low-sector and given no help at all to survive,  desperation drives Aspen to save her family by volunteering at the Grande Pharma Clinical Testing Center, where she becomes Patient 1431.

Waking up in a dark room, covered in blood, Aspen realizes her mind is easily controlled by the room’s alien and very male occupant.  And she is now slave to his most vindictive wishes. Defiant, spirited, and unafraid to stand up to this huge inked alien, Aspen is a fierce character, who manages to affect Keth in the space of a day.

Boran Keth of the Alaxians has been kept in captivity as Patient 220 since the humans invaded their planet, held for the facility’s psychological experimentation, a rare capture.  Thrown a new human female toy to play with, his attraction to her intrigues him, and he resolves to use her while he tries to figure her out. Assuming she was a spy, Keth proceeds to teach her to call him master and all that entails, without remorse or mercy. Filled with rage and sorrow and broken, Keth does not kill Aspen immediately.  He is not powerlessness in his cell but in the end, this is just another experiment, and Aspen is just the latest in a long line of test subjects. It may only be a matter of time, though, if the woman with the dead soul in charge, Director Harrow, has any provocation. Until Keth discovers something which forces him to rethink his game plan, and protectiveness gradually turns into possessiveness.

This is a read which will transport you as you adventure with the characters via the choices they make in their shared cell. We have an elaborate world describing the The Zenith, the rulers of Alaxia existing in the uppermost stacks; inhabitants filled with fear, rage, powerlessness, and heartbreak, clearly evident in the hopeless mutants subsisting in the irradiated Sector levels; and suspicious actions from the government on the lower stacks of the Colony, just to name a few.

NOOOOO THIS WAS SO DISAPPOINTING IN THE SENSE THAT THERE WAS ZERO EXCITEMENT. THE BLURB SOUNDED SO GOOD, BUT IN THE END IT DIDN'T DELIVER.

WON'T LIE, the story start out promising but after that it just got boring because it wasn't expanding in the way it would captivate the audience and there was no substantial development between the characters that speaks of love...the ending was also too abrupt.

KETH is one of the natural alien species on the planet of this fictional world, but he has been captured and experimented on, locked up in a room where Grand Pharma often throws in human women for him to 'play with' and he ends up fucking then killing them gruesomely. When the last female comes, she's different and he believes her to another spy. Keth is too caught up in his paranoia to see that Aspen isn't a spy but a poor human being who has been mistreated. He's always punishing her and there's a lot of Anal play going on (not my favourite thing to read about) and they barely even had any relationship building together. Before you know it, they're suddenly CLOSE and make an escape together. Ughh....the story felt like it skipped several steps and it's severely lacking in the emotional department that counts. Oh did I mention? Keth has super cool mind controlling powers courtesy of some virus tested on him, BUT it wasn't expounded on either.

ASPEN is caught when she went into the middle sector looking for a better life. As a nobody, she's thrown into Grand Pharma's experiment and meets the alien, Keth who is a total asshole to her. I don't mind assholes who redeem themselves later...but Keth never truly morphed into anything. His feelings were just TOLD to us instead. Aspen's more like the victim here.

OVERALL I won't even label this a dark story. There's much potential here but sadly it didn't deliver, at least to me personally.

Unanswered Questions

This wasn't a bad book it just left too many unanswered questions to enjoy it. So what happened to his wife? Who betrayed him? No one even questioned how the humans found the village. I would guess the implant that should have been cut out as soon as they left, just in case it was used for tracking. No one even questioned anything. She said she knew how to disable the vehicles and had a plan, but no she really didn't. Her only plus was she could get closer. My final and biggest issue is that this girl went from being a feisty fight back not take it laying down kind of girl to thinking of him as Master. Seriously, one good punishment and she's thinking and acting like a good little slave. Now I'm not saying she couldn't have gotten there eventually, but no way that fast. She may have been smart enough to act correctly, but the slave mentality would never happen overnight like that. It's like they were two completely different women. I didn't recognize her once she became his slave. I also thought for sure the author would somehow use her inability to be programmed in the story, but no, it's a pretty useless talent to have in this story. It never came up again. Well, maybe mind a once, but not much. Don't want to spoiled, but yeah, it was not used like it could have been. They story was too easy. They escape easily, the get where they want to go easily. It was just all too convenient. I liked the main alien. That's about it for the story.

There is definitely some kinkery f***(kery going on in this one. It's dark and brutal in places, and the main male character isn't all that likable for chunks of the book. Of course, it's understandable why he's not likable, but that doesn't make him any better.

On a new planet, humans are still doing terrible things to each other. Aspen, a resident of the lower levels of the Stack, has been given to Grande Pharma to be used as a guinea pig. After she fails in another scenario or two, she gets tossed to the alien, for him to do what he wants.

Keth is a native of the planet they are all living on. The humans are trying to wipe his people off the face of the planet. They captured him and now they're running experiments on him. They toss him women to have his way with, and he kills them. So when he gets Aspen, he figures she's just a spy, like all the other women he's dealt with. He's going to do her and kill her. But then, Keth changes his mind.

There are some really dark and bloody bits in this. There are also some dark and sexy bits. And just som sexy bits. Aria Adams really explores this world well and really takes the story to that place that is both erotic and horrific. It takes some practice to get there, but she managed it.

Set on a distant planet where the ruling body treats both the resident aliens and the lower class humans equally: like dirt. A captive alien male and a prisoner human female are thrown together and all they really want is freedom. But can they learn to trust each other to get it?

The author has described this book as erotic horror and there are certainly some nasty scenes and events described in the book. Fortunately, the author does not dwell on them nor give them great detail, so that keeps the horror element to a minimum. For the erotic part, there several sexual scenes which are given more details and are a bit longer length. I definitely prefer this balance to the other way around.

The story overall is well written if, as has been said, dark. We don't see the nameless human overlords of the planet, but we get a fair description of the setting from our hero and heroine. The actions between our couple develop at a reasonable pace and seem realistic for their situation. There are strong elements of dubcon, D/S and punishment, so if those offend you, stay away. Otherwise, this was an enjoyable if somewhat disturbing read.

Recommended.

5/5- this book is totally a 5 star read!

Keth x Aspen = alien romance

Keth is a massive male alien covered with purple tattoos captured on his own planet by humans that inhabit it after the need to colonize somewhere besides earth due to overpopulation.

Aspen is a poor human born and raised on an alien planet. She is lied to by the “government” to volunteer for testing. Instead she is in a locked room naked with Keth to serve as a spy. She doesn’t want to be a spy.

Keth is known for destroying the women sent to him by ripping apart their minds then their bodies. He’s angry for being held captive and witnessing his wife’s murder. Aspen is angry and tough but scared at the same time. It doesn’t read angsty at all.

This book is a M/s read. It gets bad before it gets better. Enemies to lovers? Kinky, yes. Amazing read HELL YES!

This book ends with a HEA and leaves you begging for more.

Possible triggers: spanking, collaring, bondage, chains, oral sex, vaginal penetration/sex, choking, anal play, anal sex, enormous alien cock x human woman body parts. There is also blood and gore and weird human deformities from radiation being leaked to lower level living areas.

The storyline is pretty good, albeit a grim & dismal future. Humans have colonized an alien planet, Alaxia. The human colony is divided in a caste system, separated by what floor they live on. The higher the number, the lower the status and living conditions. It sounds like it is funded /ruled by a private drug company on behalf of the Earth ruling government. They use humans as guinea pigs, using drugs to change and control anyone to get their way.
In this first book, Aspen, a girl from the lower floors gets caught and is subjected to experiments before getting thrown into a cell with a native Alaxian male, Keth. Keth has been imprisoned and experimented on as well. During that time he has gruesomely raped , tortured and murdered numerous females, suspecting them of being spies.
Now this book is crazy dark and gritty... It doesn't spare the reader any of the torture Keth inflicts on Aspen... so be very aware that it is SHOCKING!
That being said, it is also a story about two lost grieving & tortured souls that find each other in the midst of their subjugated darkness, finding hope, and later love.

(This series is my dirty little secret...Shhh!)

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This book is set on an alien planet that humans have invaded and colonized, systematically eradicating the native population, a sentient race called the Alaxians. Aspen is from the lower human ranks when Earth sent lower ranking humans off planet , now having a rigid class system with the higher-ups treating the lower classes like dirt....so with her family dead and nobody to care, she tried to invade the upper ranks, but was captured and taken to a cell, where she was thrown in with an alien from the planet named Keth. He was captured and tortured for information about the remaining native people on his planet, but he refused to answer. He had the gift of mind control, so he kills those women sent to him to solicit information. Aspen was different and although he does hurt and punish her, he starts to trust her...but you will have to read this page-turner to see if they can escape their captivity...or will they reach a dead-end in the lower 'stack".....

Not really my thing

I can't say I enjoyed this book but I can't say it was awful either. I'm okay with Don and sub relations but this went a little too far. He's a broken alien taking his pain out on humanity for what they did by killing everyone they send into his cell. She's a broken girl treated poorly by the upper echelon of humanity because she has been deemed unworthy. She's thrown in with a murderer who wants to break her mind and literally disembowel her. He is not in any way, shape or form nice. He is evil, sadistic and twisted. And yet he "falls in love with her" and claims her after their escape. And she just goes along with it. La dee da he's not crazy and demented anymore. See what I mean? Not my cup of tea. But there are probably people out there who enjoy this type of story. So... I have it three stars because I was able to read it to the end, the grammar was good, and the overall story was okay.

Interesting concept but ruined by last third of book.

Set in a world far removed from Earth, where Earth governments have colonized another planet and subjected humans to live in levels according to status. Aspen from one of the lower levels have tried to escape after death of family, but is promptly caught and given to Keth. Keth a native of the planet had been captured and is being studied as well as tortured by the cooperation to find the rest of his people.
Aspen is strange to Keth in her behaviour than previous women , as unfortunately they didn't survive him. Will Aspen be a catalyst for change and possible escape.

This contains a few dub-con scenes, a bit of violence. A bit disappointed at the ending as it felt like the author got lost around mid point of the story and then wound up with a crappy ending.

Aspen is thrown in a room with an alien where the remains of other woman is on the floor.
Aspen is captured and when several attempts to overwrite her memories fail she is thrown into a room with an alien who has torture and killed all the earlier human women put in with him where the floor is covered with blood and gore from his earlier victims. Kith has lost his father and wife to the humans who when they captured him experimented om him resulting in him being able to use mind control on the women thrown in with him so that they will do what he wants against their own will. When Aspen is put in his room she acts differently to the previous ones she keeps fighting him and trying to resist his mind control and Kith finds her intrigue him. An Alien romance to relax and enjoy.

When fighting the government lands her in a prison cell with an alien whose favorite past time is disemboweling the women placed in his own private Hell, the last thing she expects to do is survive. The Last, last thing she expects is to fall in love with her new 'Master'. And the Last, Last, last thing she ever expects is that they will find there way together. This story grabs you from the first line and refuses to let you go, let you come up for air or go on a bathroom break. It was hot, at times terrifying and always absolutely thrilling. Dark and sexy don't even begin to cover it. The intensity of the master/slave scenes nearly melted my kindle and definitely caused a few hot flashes. No spoilers, but, being a virgin doesn't stop some of the hottest scenes I've ever read from taking your breath away. Loved it!

This dystopian future alien romance was very dark and in places violent. Aspen is a human who is almost at the bottom of the food chain and Keth is an alien has lost just about everything. Keths family have all been killed by the invading humans and he is now a captive being studied. Aspen has been stripped and put into Keths cell complex to try to get some information as to where his people are hiding. Most of the females put into his cell are killed by Keth but Aspen is different, she will not try to charm him or offer herself for favours, how will these two souls who have been betrayed and mistreated in the worse way deal with each other. This was not exactly an enjoyable read in fact parts of it were uncomfortable, but it was interesting, so much so that I want to know what happens next.

All Aspen wanted was to get free. She was tired of being in the low sector and wanted a way out. But Grande Pharma had other plans. Keth trusted none of the human’s. They were all evil. Even this female that they sent to him. He planned to use her and discard her like the other spies they sent, but Aspen was different.

In the beginning you don’t know what to expect with Keth. Would he torture Aspen? Would she survive? They both had to learn a great deal about each other before they could move closer. The future seems bleak. But we also see current event of how the class is treated, top 1% getting ahead and caring not for the middle class or poor. Seems like current events to me. Beyond that, these two have to fight their past and trust issues. The story moved along fast. I am hoping there will be another one not just with them but another one of the Alaxian and a human.

Ok, a lot of plot holes though

I had a problem with the lack of communication issues between the humans and the Alaxians. Why would either group have learned the other's language? Where did Keth get his tools from, and why would Grande Pharma have ever consented to giving him anything more that could, potentially be used against them? If Keth had the ability to stop someone's heart through a door, why were the guards stationed so close?

In addition to all of that, the end of this book didn't actually resolve any of the issues that were presented. I understand that this will be a series, so it may just be coming in future books, but I wish that there could have been a stronger HFN than what we got.

The loved the beginning of this book. The author started the book out with a very intriguing scene and the story kept building from there. She was a strong-willed and sassy little thing compared to him. He was an alien who was determined to break her. The scientific aspect was very interesting. The story played out with great zeal on his part and a stubborn young woman who was determined not to give in. I was immersed into the story from the beginning and the author didn't disappoint. Very well done.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

*Warning*
This book is really dark. With non-con and dub-con themes so if that isn't something you like don't read this book.
Our alien hero is a prisoner and he is broken, psychotic, and murderous. He does fall for the heroine and she falls for him despite the torture he puts her through when she gets thrown in his cell with him. They get free and seem to be getting a happily ever after when the book ends. Abruptly. I'm not sure if it's because a book 2 will be coming or if the author meant for to end that way but it was very unsatisfying which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. Enjoy.

***I decided to review an ARC of this book.***

Dark romance in alien world with graphic scenes as war criminals are taking human and alien prisoners. A true thing of nightmares.
Once the general filtering is done this book turns into something deeper. I think this author has some untouched talent to release on the reading world under whichever name she chooses!!! I'm no pro but I read more than most and there is something here with Aria/Katie. Good luck MissAdams/Douglas; best wishes for a bright writing future. Thanks for allowing me to share a trip to Alaxia with Aspen and Keth! I highly recommend the book if the material is within your tolerance. I find the darkness is be contrasted well in ligh.

I was as much a captive as the characters. Keth and Aspen are two sides to the same captivity where the lines between friend and foe becomes blurred and broken. The author does a great job of world building to the point I felt part of the environment she described in its stark vividness. Keth is the ultimate dominant, but Aspen has strengths all her own that provide the perfect foil. Lose yourself in the danger and passion as these characters struggle to escape their captivity, keeping in mind that their are some chains you might not want to break. Great read!
