Where One Goes #2

What Lies Between

Rate this book
What Lies Between is the follow up novel to Where One Goes which is available now with a new cover.

At the core of it, life is a test—an opportunity to prove who we are; what we’re really made of. Short as it was, I’d like to think I lived my life well, that when people remember Ike McDermott, they remember he was a good man. When I look back, I’m proud of who I was.

Leaving behind the woman I loved was the hardest thing I’d ever done, and finding peace with the knowledge she was building a life with my brother after I moved on took a strength I didn’t know I had. But George and Charlotte were still alive. I wasn’t. Together, they forged on, and I was okay with that because I knew, one day, Charlotte and I would be reunited.

One day she would be mine.

All I had to do was wait.

Time works differently in the afterlife. Without any ties to the living, it doesn’t so much as slow, but stop altogether. There is no worrying about what is to come, there is only what is.
I didn’t know if four days, or fifty years had passed when I found Charlotte by our tree in my corner of the other side. All I knew was she was here, and I would never have to let her go. I finally had my reward for the life I’d lived.

But I’d soon learn Fate had other plans, and everything I believed about who I was would be tested once again. Only this time, I wasn’t so sure I could stay strong.

This time, I wasn’t sure I could be a good man.

I HATED IT!
I HATED IT!
I HATED IT!
I HATED IT!

I SO HATED IT!

Why does a writer do this?

Why kill the beauty of a very unique book she has written with her own hands?

What was this for?

I am so pissed at the writer that I won't read from her again. Who knows when she will ruin everything I read and love by writing another bloody sequel to it...

Nope... not again!

***********************************************

For starters, let me say that Book 1, when it was not a part of the series but was only a stand-alone book, was one of my best reads ever! Now, this sequel to it kills the beauty of it, unfortunately.

This second book ruins everything for me.

I don't want to go change my 5-star review for Book 1 but what I would advise you would be to read only Book 1, and never this one!

***********************************************

First, let me clarify how I felt about the characters in Book 1.

In Book 1, I loved all the main characters.
I loved Ike and my heart ached for him.
I loved Charlotte and I felt her pain and dilemma with all my heart.
And despite his mistakes, I loved George, too. He was lost for a while drowning in his pain until he found his light.

Sadly, the characters I loved in Book 1 frustrated the hell out of me here in Book 2. Out of those 3 characters I adored, now I only love one of them!

Huh, look what a writer has done with a book I loved so much? She made me hate the characters I fell in love with!

Good job… very good job.
Not!

I hated the pain my brother was going through. I hated that I couldn’t tamp down my own feelings and put his first. None of it was fair.

***********************************************

Some people may want to decide to read this book depending on who she ends up with but my case of hating the book wasn't about it. (She actually ended up with the guy I wanted her to end up with.)

My hatred and anger about this book comes from Charlotte hopping from one guy's bed to another's and calling one of them "her soul mate" and the other "the love of her life".

Huh?! Really? Did I read this to be able to understand and discriminate the difference between "a soul mate" and "the love of one's life"?

So, as you see, this is no safe read. Be forewarned! She sleeps with both guys. And worst of all, there is no scene of confession of what she has done.

And the writer tries to make it something bigger than a love triangle by adding some divine explanations to what’s happening but sorry, I am not buying it!

And let me also warn you that “romance & love” is not the focus of the book. There are souls to be saved, journeys to be made between two worlds and some more paranormal sh*t like that.

I have read some poetic quotations in some reviews and as I always do, I could have also included here really poetic quotations but I just don’t feel like doing that about a book I hated.

And to be honest, I can never say that writing is not good – oh, it is good and sometimes poetic, indeed! And it definitely makes you feel. But that’s not the point. What it makes me feel is what matters to me.

I know everyone will have a different reaction to this book because it is undeniably written well so it just depends on if you can tolerate what is happening in it or not. I just couldn’t.

For further questions, you can always pm me.

Here is my review about the awesome "Book 1" when it was a stand-alone (Oh, how I wish it had stayed as a stand-alone!) :

Like I originally wrote when I finished, I’m highly conflicted about this book. I mean I knew there was a possibility that this would happen, and I was even considering not reading it at all, but oh well, curiosity and other highly favorable reviews won. Is this a case of you shouldn’t have messed with perfection? For me, yes. Absolutely yes. I loved Where One Goes, it was perfect and an all-time favorite. Did I love What Lies Between? Not so much. I’ll explain, and I will still try to be spoiler free.

I do have to say that this author is amazing. She’s a great writer and her books are simply fantastic. So by no means I want to deter you from reading this if you choose to, I’m pretty sure that my reasons are more mine than issues with the book.

I do have to say that this is a sequel to Where One Goes (WOG) so you definitely have to read that first. And if you haven't, you probably should stop reading this review cause I will definitely be talking WOG.

So, is the writing good? Absolutely, there’s some fantastic writing and the author’s imagination is beyond belief. What did I like? I loved the entire paranormal aspect, and that whole sub plot with Click and Marlena, that was so well done. I also loved this concept of the afterlife and what not. The author has one amazing imagination and a great way to tell a story. That was just great. I also loved the beginning, and Charlotte and George’s relationship when we catch up with them after WOG. I was totally devouring this book in the beginning.

So what was my issue? My issue was the romance aspect. Hey, I get it, Ike was a wonderful character in WOG and we all fell in love with him. But I feel like once the author decided to get Charlotte and George together, the Ike and Charlotte loved story was done, should’ve been done. One for obvious reasons when it comes to Ike, and two out of respect for Charlotte and George’s love story. Just let them live together happily. Instead, the author chose to go back to the Ike-Charlotte-George love triangle and honestly, Charlotte didn’t even hesitate. But where does this leaves George? Is he second best in Charlotte’s life? Sadly yes, there’s no other way to put it. He totally is and to me, this whole explanation of one being the love of her life, and the other her soulmate does not convince me. It’s really hard to believe she truly loved George when she’s so hung up on Ike and acted the way she did in this book. I loved George so much, and truly fell awful for him. And boy do I hate this whole second best feeling. This was basically the Ike and Charlotte show, just like WOG was, with the caveat that now she’s actually married to George, so reach your own conclusions. The ending was also kinda rushed so there’s very little explanation on certain aspects. It was extremely hard for me to connect with either of them, which is a shame since I loved them in the previous book.

Again, I love this author and she writes brilliant books. But although this story had wonderful moments, I still feel like perfection was messed with and this is one story that absolutely did not need a sequel.

"Love is terrifying. It has the power to seep its way through your body like heroin, giving you the most exquisite high, or blaze you over and scorch you to ash."

When I found out that B.N. Toler was writing a follow-up novel to one of my favorite books, I was out of my mind excited. However, with sequels it can go either way: you either end up loving or hating it. I really didn't want to be disappointed, but I just had to have faith that the author would do justice to these amazing characters. I didn't know which direction the story would take, however I was expecting some major heartbreaking scenes. When I read the blurb I got really nervous, I didn't know what to expect and that got me a bit scared. I am going to keep this review pretty vague, because I don't want to spoil anything. I'll just talk about how this story made me feel.

"Love isn't getting your happily ever after. Love is being willing to sacrifice your own happily ever after in order for the one you love to find hers."

Charlotte is a determined person, and not being able to do something she sets her mind to, breaks her heart and makes her feel helpless. George, seeing how difficult this is for her, can do nothing but be supportive. He can't really imagine how Char feels, but he will do anything in his power to bring her back up when she feels broken. I loved seeing these two interact and how their relationship had grown since the last book. However, I don't think I saw enough of that, so that left me a bit wanting more. Like the previous book the paranormal aspect was done perfectly, and I was really engaged in the story. There were more than a couple of scenes where I just couldn't contain my tears, so keep tissues close by! There was one particular character, who I really hope will get her own book, because I am intrigued by her. Simply put I loved this book. The writing was great, and I loved how the story was out together. It gave it a bit of a mystery feel, which I loved. I couldn't wait to be reunited with all the amazing characters, even though it would be hard to say goodbye again at the end.

4 stars

I literally just finished the book. And my heart hurts. My head hurts. I cried so much! I confess I was afraid of reading WHAT LIES BETWEEN. The first book is one of my favorites of all times and I didn't think it needed a sequel. But how could I know it exists a story about them and ignore it? So I decided to read and I don't regret.

George is even more in love. Ike is the most beautiful and perfect ever. And Charlotte... She's still in love with both. But this book made something that book 1 didn't. It made me feel like she loved one more that the other.  I understand her more here, I get it, ok, but I love both of them too. So I felt sad with a few parts of it. That's why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.

If you are afraid it will ruined the first book...  well, for me it didn't. I loved seeing them again. And knowing the extension of what Charlotte could do and how gifted she really was. I loved the book. And I did felt every sentiments there was real. There is no way to read this and don't feel emotional. And like in the book, life is not always perfect but it all comes to one thing... love. And despite of everything, I love these caracters even more.

*I received an ARC of this book. Thank you!

4 estrelas

Então decidi ler e não me arrependo.

Então eu me senti triste com algumas partes do livro.

Obrigada!

The plot of this book was random and all over the place. I’m left feeling completely unfulfilled and utterly confused. It wasn’t even the main character’s actions that baffled me, honestly I could care less about what Charlotte did. The story was rushed, disjointed, and confusing.

Alright then, I’ve had a moment to process What Lies Between. When I finished Where One Goes, I was emotionally spent. Charlotte’s special gift led her to one of the most amazing men I’ve ever read, Ike McDermott. Unfortunately for her though, he was dead. So, no happy ending to be found there... BUT, he also brought her George, his twin brother. Who is equally as perfect in his own right.

What Lies Between brings us back to the love that George and Charlotte share and the life they’ve built together. It’s magical, but it also has its strains like every other relationship has.

So when Char’s gift becomes too troubling and her life is put in jeopardy, George begins to think he can’t save her, that he’s got to let her go. And who’s on the other side just waiting for his time with the love of his life? Ike.

Never did either one of them expect the chance to be together, ever. To say it’s a shock when Char shows up in “heaven” is an understatement. But, Ike won’t waste a second of it, because who knows how long it’ll last, if it’s real at all?

I love these characters so much. I definitely saw growth in all of them and was extremely pleased with the way the story was told. I had all the feelings whilst reading.

Another heartbreakingly perfect story from BN Toler.

She crosses over into the afterlife realm and cheats on her husband with his brother (her love in the first book, but he was dead - she could only verbally communicate with him).

Anddddddd god it was boring. BORING.

2 star book rating photo: 2 bookies BLI2Bookies.png

I wish I could go back and kick myself. I should have read some of the reviews before I started this one. Because then I would not have ruined the first book for me.

I loved Where One Goes. It was one of my best reads ever. It had all the feels. It was epic. And now, now I feel nothing for it....Because this one has gone and ruined everything....

This is by far the most disappointing and worst read for 2018 for me.....I am gutted!!!

Ike was hurt and broken for the second time....which is just not fair. Charlotte is a cheating trollop and does not deserve poor George. The only one who I still respected at the end of this book was poor old George. grrrr it all just makes me so very angry!!!!

I think I need to go cool off before I start my next book.......:(

4 Beautiful and Complex Stars!

“Love is terrifying. It has the power to seep its way through your body like heroin, giving you the most exquisite high, or blaze you over and scorch you to ash. So many people chase it, while others run away. We’re addicted to the pleasure and pain. I understood what he meant about me being his high–George McDermontt was my drug of choice. And it terrified me.”

“Love is….bigger than us. We don’t get to make choices about this. The only choice we have is how we move with it. The only thing I can do is give you my blessing. Whatever happens, wherever you are, my heart is yours. Always.”

What Lies Between……Where do I even start? Where One Goes was a truly special story that rocked me to the core. I had never experienced a story or love story quite like that one. So, when I heard that there was going to be a sequel, that’s right a sequel, I was equal parts scared and excited. I didn’t know how my heart would handle returning to this world, but I’d be liar if I said I wasn’t completely intrigued.

Now, I will be the first to tell you that writing a spoiler free review for this book is nearly impossible. There are so many things I want to say, so many things I want to swoon and rage about, but I won’t do that. My advice to you is go into this sequel blind. Yes, you absolutely must read Where One Goes first. But, please go into What Lies Between blind. This is the kind of story that you must read, and feel yourself. What I can tell you is that I had chills. I had no clue what I was getting into with this book, but my heart once again was not prepared for where this story would take me.

What Lies Between is a complex story about love and life. It’s a story about the unexplained and seeing the world in a different light. It’s a story about the most complicated love that will make you think and question just about everything. I for one felt so many different emotions. From feeling like I returned home, to wondering what in the world was happening, to yelling at my kindle and swooning in the very next moment. This book took me on one crazy journey and was filled with twists and unexpected turns. I certainly did not see this book coming.

What Lies Between is an all consuming story. It is complicated. It’s beautiful. It’s totally unexpected and will keep you glued to the pages. I devoured What Lies Between in just one afternoon. I was positively hooked. I loved being reunited with these characters and enjoyed getting swept up in their lives again….

I don’t understand how anyone who enjoyed the first book could like this one. I have not even read it, and Will not be doing so. I loved the first book and do not plan on ruining my memories of it. I have read reviews and know all I need to know. Charlotte cheats on George with Ike! Unbelievable! So lost respect for those two straight away. What an unnecessary book, what on Earth was the author thinking? I do not understand the ratings, how anyone who read the first book (which was fantastic), can give this five stars is beyond me. Even if people are a fan of Ike and Charlotte together, I do not see how they can approve of the traitorous and duplicitous way they are together in this book? What in the end gets resolved? Nothing, Charlotte is till with George, and had an interlude with Ike, which is now just a grey cloud that looms over her life with George? So just a more muddled love triangle? Well done?! Who does Charlotte think she is going between the apparent love of her life, and her apparent soul mate? Please! George deserved better!

Where One Goes the first book in this series came out some time ago however I still remember the effect it had on me. No lies prior to starting the book i was anxious because my love for book one has never lessened. I shouldn't have worried because the author delivered a fitting sequel that for me stuck to the ethos that I loved. The characters were just as I remembered just a bit more mature and the story was just perfection.

I purposely haven't mentioned the storyline, let's be honest you don't want me too really. The writing is superb with a story that flows effortlessly there are some surprises along the way that will delight the reader. This was one of those books that I didn't know I wanted the author to write but I'm so glad she did.

I was apprehensive, but excited, when I found out there was going to be a sequel to Where One Goes which was a firm favourite of mine a few years ago. I honestly didn’t think the author could do justice to the characters and their story. Boy was I proved wrong.

Charlotte is living her life as best as she can, while enjoying her relationship with George. She is more than happy with him, but she never forgets the love she felt for his twin brother, Ike.

Charlotte quickly finds herself embroiled in something which changes everything in the blink of an eye and sends her on a journey which is both joyful and heartbreaking in equal measure.

“Here, there, forever.”

The author gives us some amazing descriptive work throughout. All I can say is that time is a wonderful thing even when it doesn’t tally with our expectations. The story made me smile so much yet it also had me in tears as it headed toward its dramatic conclusion. While reading I had a vision of what I wanted to happen. Whether that is what actually happens I won’t say. Suffice to say I totally understand why the author takes the story where she does and I take my hat off to her for sticking to her guns.

There is a female character I would love to see more from and I sincerely hope the author decides to bring us more from her.

This is a brilliant read which I almost wish I could erase from my mind in order to read it a second time and enjoy it all over again. I highly recommend it to fans of the author, but book one must be read first.

Many thanks to the author for allowing me to read an ARC.

Ohhh this was so painful to read. I am at 60% and I don't think I can do it. This book is perhaps the most unnecessary book I have ever read considering how beautiful the first one was.

This book disguises a love triangle (in which the main girl cheats) with paranormal aspects. The first half of the book is Charlotte finding and helping spirits cross over. Then suddenly she is in the after life and back with her spirit boyfriend who is the identical twin of her husband. She proceeds to sleep with him in the most cringy written scene. MESS. I hate love triangles. HATE THEM. But on top of that? Twin brothers! A whole big, huge, gigantic bag of NOPE.

The last book ended so beautifully-yes, Ike (the spirit boyfriend) had to eventually cross over but there was no cheating and they got their goodbye. She found happiness with his brother (which, admittedly is a little weird but Ike was dead!). This book essentially took all of that and tossed it in the trash. What was the point?! I don't think I have been this disappointed in a book in a while...it makes me want to re read the first one to see if I even liked it as much as I thought...

TLDR: Hated this. Don't waste your time. Cheating, love triangles, twin brothers galore.

This book!!!! Ahhh! I’m going to try and explain how amazing this book is but I’m doing it through tears. I was worried about what would happen to these characters in the second book. I felt like they had already been though a lot and didn’t know where Toler would take them. This book made me just as emotional as the first. I promise you won’t be disappointed but get those tissues. BN Toler you did it again and I couldn’t be happier. The writing was amazing and what you take from this book is heart warming.

“Here, there, forever. always”

Char is still your stubborn, determined always cursing woman that we love. Once she is set on something she doesn’t give up.

Ike...I simply adore you. You’re funny, sweet, loving I could go on and on. You are the best man. My heart still breaks for you from book one I will always be #teamIke.

George I was glad we got to see another side of you. My heart broke for you so many times. You never faltered and I love that about you. You didn’t go backwards and even though you were broken you kept a fighting.

BN Toler has delivered a deeply moving sequel to Where One Goes. What Lies Between is an exquisite look at life and love and the bonds that have withstood the test of time and distance. The characters and events are well-crafted and fit together to create a story brimming with mystery and thought-provoking imagery.

What Lies Between deserves ten soul-filling stars.

What an amazing feeling to be immersed in this world again with these characters I absolutely adore!! I honestly love them all so much. I was highly anticipating this book and had HUGE expectations... and let me just say BN far far exceeded them!! I was blown away. I was expecting a highly emotional read which we got however there were times the tears were from laughter. Like an entire chapter had my sides hurting from laughing so hard!

The fact that I was consumed from page 1 all the way through to the end with never a dull moment and loving every character as if they were a part of my family is a sign of a truly spectacular author. I was never able to pick a team, loving Ike and George equally for different reasons. Their love for Charlotte was awe inspiring. I was consumed and found it virtually impossible to put the book down.

Enjoy returning to this world of incredible selflessness, devotion and all consuming love. It is sure to be one of your top reads of 2018!

My reviews are honest & they contain spoilers. For more, visit:

What Lies Between is book 2 of B.N. Toler’s Where One Goes series; one that was most anticipated by many of us who loved book 1, Where One Goes. It was one of my favorite reads of 2015 and a 5 stars at that. B.N. Toler was a new to me author and she blew my mind with her storytelling. I was pretty sad that there won’t be a sequel to the story when it felt like it needed a one badly. In that sense, this is a very lovely surprise that I didn’t expect to see but was extremely happy nonetheless to see it becoming a reality.

As usual with my reviews, I’ll begin with a bit of backstory. Where One Goes is narrated from multiple first POVs of the main protagonists; 3 of them. But it begins with Charlotte, our h, trying to help out one last soul before she became of them. Charlotte had a lovely childhood until a few years ago when a tragic accident that changed everything. One moment of impulsive decision took the life of her elder brother Axel and left her badly injured. As she was recovering from her near fatal injury, Charlotte found out the most astonishing thing that had ever happened to her! She could see spirits; souls in limbo that needed help in crossing over. Since she wasn’t used to it, Charlotte needed help alongside the love and support of her parents in gradually becoming used to with her new ‘gift’. However, her strictly religious parents couldn’t connect with her ‘issues’, thinking she’s become mentally unstable and their relationship deteriorated to a point that she was told simply to leave. Just go away , was all she got. Ever since then Charlotte has been on her own, trying to eke out a life herself and doing what she was meant to be doing; helping out souls that needed her help.

But the years in between has already taken its toll on Charlotte. When a spirit sees you and decides that it wants your help, there’s no escaping that. Either you help them or they follow you around until you do. Being totally alone and not being able to accept the burden of her gift completely, she was mentally exhausted, physically drained. She wanted out and she thought only death would give her that option. No, she didn’t know if that’d help either but that’s the only way she could think of to end it all. Enter Ike McDermott; one of the twins of Mr. and Mrs. McDermott of Warm Springs. Recently deceased in a war and a soul stuck in limbo who was looking for help.

Ike had a better life than Charlotte with a pair of loving parents. He and his twin, George and their adopted brother Cameron had the type of familial bonding with their parents that people don’t always get to have and envy. Mr. and Mrs. McDermott was the perfect example of what parents should be like and Ike was forever grateful to have them. It was because of the teaching of selflessness that Ike decided to join the army and when he died, he thought he’d died doing his service to his country. No big regrets. But, sadly, he couldn’t cross over. Although his parents were trying their best to keep it together, George was a hot mess. It was so bad that it was all Ike could do to kick his butt. He wished he still could do that. But George can’t see him and Ike can do nothing to help him. So when he tried to convince Charlotte to not jump from that bridge, he didn’t think she’d hear much less reply to him. He was just acting out of habit. Yet when she did, Ike was dumbfounded. Here was his help after all! Someone who could hear him. No no, she could see him too!! Needless to say, Ike was overjoyed.

After being rescued by Ike from the colossal mistake she was going to make, Charlotte decides to help him out. With his charming personality, effortless goodlooks, and his innate sense of goodness, Ike won her over very soon. They had an instant bond that Charlotte knew was so wrong since it’s never good to get attached to a soul, much less feel attracted to him. But in the course of Charlotte finding Warm Springs to help out George and trying to build a new life there, she finds that she has fallen in love with Ike. He felt the same and oh so wished they could touch each other. Convey their emotions in every way possible. But that was not to be so Charlotte settled for having him with her however long she could.

But in Warm Springs a surprise was waiting for her when she sees George for the first time. Ike may have neglected to mention to her that George was his identical twin! ;) Whereas Ike had the big and buff body of a military man, George was slender than him though both brothers shared the same height and features. Then Charlotte also figured out that George was addicted to drugs and a girl who worked there was helping him down that path of destruction. Not only that, they were also physically involved; a fact Charlotte had difficult time taking in. Especially knowing that the girl was trying to destroy George while also cheating on her boyfriend. It was also maybe the fact that she was also attracted to George and this attraction was way different than what she felt for Ike. For Ike, she felt a kind of warm, soft loving as she later dubs him as her soulmate, but with George it was more like opposites attract. They couldn’t stand each-other but there was no denying their sizzling attraction. Charlotte knew she was in a big trouble, but she also knew she had to help George if nothing but to bring peace for Ike and his parents. She needed to help Ike cross over.

In the course of her finding a new life, with a job too, Charlotte comes to know some wonderful people there. The Mercers, who took her in as a daughter because they believed in her gift when she brought a message for them from their own deceased daughter. She also comes to appreciate Mr. and Mrs. McDermott who also believed in her when she gave them some information about Ike that she couldn’t have known as an outsider. Sniper, a goofy Scotsman; a military guy who used to be Ike’s buddy but now settled in Warm Springs and his on and off girlfriend, Anna. Most of them believed her. However, it was George who was difficult to convince that Charlotte had a gift that could help his brother cross over.

As the story progressed, there are some thrilling moments that had me glued to the book. I was waiting to know what happened in the end, though I already had an idea what would actually happen. In the end, when George began believing in Charlotte’s gift, they began falling for each-other. As they found love, with George trying to do everything possible to recover from his addiction, Ike knew it was time to go. He loved Charlotte and George equally and was happy to have brought them together. He was happy to give George his Charlotte because it felt right at that moment. When he felt that they were both in good hands only then he could finally cross over.

When the story ended I was a hot mess of emotions myself cause it left me in tears reading the scene of Ike’s crossing over. There no big drama or climax but it was a poignant moment anyway. As I finished I found that I’d also fallen in love with Ike myself and hoped he’d find his HEA too. But how’s that possible when he’s already dead? There was no logical answer to that wild wish of mine.

Ever since I finished Where One Goes, I’d checked at least once a year to find out if there’d be any sequel. So when this year I found out about What Lies Between, I was absolutely ecstatic because...Just because. If nothing else, I could read about my favorite characters once again. To know how they’re doing, also hoping to see Ike again. :) What Lies Between begins some 3 yrs. after Where One Goes and is narrated the same way, through the first person POVs of our 3 main protagonists. I’d suggest you begin with book 1 since this is not a standalone story.

Charlotte and George have been married for the most part of those 3yrs. and they seemingly have a wonderful life together. It wasn’t a charmed life but they were doing great nonetheless. Their love for each-other and their family held it together for them. George had been a very supporting husband and tried his best to help Charlotte with her endeavors cause souls in limbo never stopped coming to her. At times he felt helpless if Charlotte was looking too exhausted from all that she went through because he couldn’t really do anything to help in that regard. But there was no denying the love between them and the pillar of support he’d been for her as she’s been for him.

Lately Charlotte had been having a very restless time that accompanied blinding headaches and it was taking a toll on her. George was extremely worried and frustrated that he couldn’t help her the way he wanted to. They had already talked about having children and planning on a future when, one night, their life changes once again when a soul in limbo finds Charlotte and frantically asks for her help. While returning from an excursion, she, George, Sniper and Anna lose their direction and find themselves in a dilapidated area of the town. When Charlotte saw the woman, she instantly knew from her past experiences and her physical reaction that this individual was not alive. It was proven soon enough when the woman asks Charlotte to follow her and only she could see or hear anything she said. That is also how they all find themselves in front of the house they’d later call as the Hell House. A house full of so much darkness within it that Charlotte began feeling sick the moment she’s exposed to its environment. When she was uncertain about going in like the rest of her little team, seeing two little girls peeking through one of the windows changes her mind. If children were involved, Charlotte would help. It was that simple.

This Hell House, its dark and shady past and one of its unfortunate young inhabitants would eventually become the center of Charlotte, as well as George’s, life and lead all of them to one drastic situations or another. Lives will change and Charlotte will finally see Ike again. But will there finally be a happy ending for them? Can this be termed as a ‘happy ending’ for that matter??

We, the bloggers who were given ARCs, were requested to not give away any spoilers and I’ll respect that by not giving away anything salient. Knowing me, it’s very difficult for me to not say anything about the book at all. Then again, I do think you need to read to experience this book for yourself. Let me tell you that you’ll experience a lot more than you’d think or even imagine. Like me if any of you were enamored of Ike then yes, he’ll also be there for the most part. However, don’t expect HEA for everyone concerned. Because really, when one person is actually dead and had crossed over, something like that is virtually impossible. I loved Charlotte, George and Ike (though I’d always have a much softer spot for Ike) so I was equally torn and heartsick about the whole situation. :(

The ending of What Lies Between left me hovering between disappointment, the unfairness of it all and at the same time, trying to think logical. But to be fair to the author, the storyline was complex, still quite thrilling and got me hooked for the most part even as I was dreading the ending. I couldn’t imagine how the author would resolve it all when I began reading, but I also couldn’t fault her for taking the direction she finally did. I’m happy and heartbroken at the same time if that’s even possible.

I don’t know if there’ll be any more installments in the series for I still hope to read Sniper and Anna’s story. But I can’t really envision another installment centering on our main characters so maybe this is the end after all. I highly recommend this series to anyone who is looking for a very well-written paranormal romance wanting have both heartwarming and heartwrenching experience at the same time. 4.5 stars.

I’ll thank B.N. Toler again for this journey she’d taken us to. What a ride it’s been! :)

There was something about the first book that really got to me, not sure what or if it was the perfect storm, but I really loved it. So when I saw that there was another one I was super excited. I was a bit disappointed with this one for the first 3/4's. It was a bit boring. It was until the last 1/4 that you realized what was going on, the choice that Charlotte was going to have to make. I did love that Charlotte was able to get closure with some people close to her.

4 1/2 Stars!

What Lies Between is the follow up novel to Where One Goes. After reading Where One Goes, I thought it ended at a good point and didn't except a follow up. I was a little worried about this one just being fluff but it's not. It has a great story line. I don't want to give anything away but if you read Where One Goes you are definitely going to want to pick this one up. All the characters are great which makes this one an emotional read. It's definitely a heart string puller.

Wow! Give me a minute to calm my nerves and write a review that can do this book justice!

B.N.Toler has crafted a marvelous follow up book to Where One Goes. I can't stress enough how much I love Char, George and Ike. I cried for the three of them.
Those two men..... WOWZA. Be still my beating heart! They are two of my favorite book boyfriends. They are swoon worthy and so in love with Char. They both love her so much that they would give up their own happiness for her.... that's what Real Love is all about! They are truly incredible men that any woman would want! ;) HAHA! (Shh! Don't tell my hubby)

I will not give any spoilers but be prepared for a book filled with mystery, a wild ride of emotions, beautiful scenery, phenomenal characters old and new and the end.... just felt like you were reading about your family/friends. You just felt like you were there with them the whole time and I loved that so much!!!

I can't stress enough how much I am enamored with this story and the truly captivating characters, BN Toler has created for us! I can honestly say that this is one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful stories I've ever read!!!
If you've not read anything by this extraordinary author... you need to read this book!!!!
*Even though it's a 2nd book in this story you should be able to read it as a standalone story. But I'd highly recommend you read book 1 first!!! *

10 "Moon and Bloom" stars from me!!!

6 hours! I devoured What Lies Between in 6 hours! I’m still trying to process all my emotions..

At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about this book being released. Where one goes is one of my absolute favorite books. When I read it the first time, I felt so many emotions. The ending was amazing and tied everything up so perfectly. So when I saw that this sequel was being written I had my doubts.

I was lucky enough to be able to read an arc of What Lies Between. OMG! I feel so stupid for having any hesitations.

What Lies Between is everything I never knew I needed. This book is an absolute must read. My heart was broken, shattered but ultimately put back together even better than it was before.

I was so happy to get to revisit Charlotte, George and Ike. The introduction to newish characters was perfect. I feel like my words cannot do this book justice. I laughed, cried, felt anger, cried so more, and even a little more. But at the end, it was a great feeling to go through the roller coaster of emotions I did.

I’d give What Lies Between 10 Stars if I could. Please do yourself a favor and read both of these books. My life, my heart was impacted so strongly and I’ll forever hold these books close to my heart.

What Lies Between is the sequel to Where One Goes. You MUST read Where One Goes BEFORE this book. Where One Goes is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE READS.

What Lies Between picks up the story of Charlotte and George (and Ike). You get to see how their relationship has progressed and what they must overcome. Charlotte is faced with difficult situation where she is trying to help a young girl crossover but things take a dark turn and life becomes even more complicated for her.

Yup, you must read it to understand!

This book is different, quirky and SO CAPTIVATING. The characters are well-developed and the plot is fast paced. I devoured this book in hours and was really sad when it was over. I didn’t want it to end! I just wanted to savor each and every moment. That’s what makes it a great book. The paranormal aspects were woven so well throughout the story that I believed every second. These aspects also intrigued me which made me love this story even more.

Jacque's Review

NOTE - you MUST read Where One Goes first.  You will be lost without it.

I loved, loved, loved this book.  I almost feel like anything I say will not do this book justice.  This is unlike any story I have read before.  It has a mix of romance, parnormal, suspense and mystery all roll into one and it really, really worked!  Every time I put this book down, I was drawn right back to it!

BN Toler's imagination is unbelievable.  The world she brings us is just beautiful.  To me, the colors in the cover of What Lies Between (and now Where One Goes) totally represents the world that BN Toler created in this story.  Beautifully matched and vibrant.  It's a safe place filled with those Char has loved and lost.  But decisions have to be made on all "sides" and Char is faced with deciding on the love of her life or her soulmate.

It's a top read of 2018 so far for me!  Get it!!!

In retrospect I shouldn't read this book. An unnecessary book that succeeded in destroying the characters I loved in the first book (except for George).

Where do I start with this review? I have so many mixed emotions right now and my energy’s been zapped. That tells you something about the brilliant penmanship of Ms. Toler. I was reeled in and invested in the story from the first book in the series, Where One Goes. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the follow-up but right from the first chapter, I was hooked lock, stock and barrel. I’d only got to chapter four and already I had goosebumps. The overwhelming feeling of wanting to continue reading, that sense of apprehension because of how the words pulled at my heartstrings in yet another rollercoaster of a story, was immense.

This has a supernatural element and whilst I don’t normally venture into this genre, I couldn’t not dip my toes into the water. We have the same characters from book one and some brand-new characters to add an extra excitement to the story. Ike left the woman he loves behind and it was tough to let her go and build a life with his brother. They were still alive, he was not but he had hopes that one day they would be together again. Time knows no bounds in the afterlife and Ike has no concept of whether he will see Charlotte today or years down the line. Fate is a very funny thing and I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and that was no doubt a poignant part of this tale.

What Lies Between takes place three years after Where One goes with Charlotte and George living in marital bliss. Charlotte has a lot going on and she finds herself in a situation where she can’t help and resolve an issue she walks into. Poor George, he feels helpless watching his wife torture herself but he gives her as much support as he possibly can, holding her up and showing his love for her. Everybody is tested throughout this offering and the most important undertone to learn from it is love. Love conquers all in one way or another. There’s heartbreak and sadness; however, I had every faith the right outcome would come to make my heart calm down and not beat so wildly.

More often than not a follow-up is hard to live up to the first book in a series, but once again Toler has created a masterpiece. She’s developed every character with great interest, they all played an important part and every emotion was spun out of me. I could visualize the beauty created for the scenery as well as some of the darker sides that were portrayed. There were surprises and some connotations, but I can’t possibly mention those otherwise it will give the story away. I highly recommend everybody one-clicks. It’s five worthy stars from me.
