Alex Pierce needs Laney Winters to help him prove neither of them is responsible for the millions of dollars that went missing after Laney arrested him for bank robbery five years ago. Besides Laney not believing he truly repented in prison, there’s the problem of the real thief trying to kill her and the police department treating her like a dirty cop. With the possibility of another crime being pinned on them, Laney finally teams up with Alex to save her life. If only she could trust him with her heart, as well.
Angela Ruth Strong sold her first Christian romance novel in 2009. Her book Finding Love in Big Sky filmed as a movie in Montana and aired on UPtv in 2022. When ex cop Laney Winters applies to be security for a company, she discovers that Alex Pierce is also applying for the same position. The same Alex Pierce that she arrested for bank robbery and sent to prison 5 years ago! He has gotten out, claims Christ and wants to turn over a new leaf. And to beat all, he wants her to help him find the real criminal who stole the 9 million dollars he went to jail for!!! Talk about nerve. He's the very reason she is no longer a cop! Well, he talks a pretty good game and after some advice from friends, she decides to help him. They team up to prove who the real thief is and as soon as they do, both are nearly killed. Not once, either.
This little novella hooks the reader at the beginning and keeps holding on through till the last page. Strong has created some very likeable characters who interact great and also has created a good plot. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
*Thanks to the author for a copy of this book. The opinions stated here are entirely my own.
Another laugh-out-loud suspense by a favorite author
Laney was astonished to find out that Alex was opening a security business in her town. The ex-con had been in prison, after all! Was he trying to lure unwitting business owners to trust him so he could then rob them blind?
With the quirky, over-the-top, laugh-out-loud humor and unexpected twists that I’ve come to expect in stories by Angela Ruth Strong, False Security led me on a merry chase with Alex and Laney as they sought to prove their innocence regarding millions of dollars that had been stolen five years earlier.
Yet, as with this author’s books, the story was not just fluff and ridiculous antics. Underneath the madcap adventure was the story of a woman who had been broken. First by a father who had been deceitful and caused her great pain. Then by a broken engagement. Despite the fact she was secure in her salvation, she didn’t feel worthy or lovable. And she had a great deal of trouble trusting, especially trusting the handsome ex-con she had sent to prison five years ago. The one who was trying to compete with her security business. (Yeah, I didn’t catch that until I started writing this review. “False Security” – security business – who could she trust? Cute!)
There are so many things to love about this. It combines the right combination of dry wit (which I adore), adventure and spiritual journeys. I appreciated the crafting of the sections that alternated between Laney and Alex’s narrations so the one part would end with one of them having a thought and the next would start with the other countering that thought in their head. I have to confess – this is one of my very favorite styles of writing. I imagine it takes much more effort than simply continuing a narrative and I appreciate authors taking the time to do this.
If you enjoy lighthearted suspense, romance with plenty of chemistry even if it isn’t filled with kisses, and changed hearts, you will love this book."
Where do you put your security? In things, people or circumstances? This is the hard lesson Laney needed to learn because she had placed it in the wrong people and things, now she was seeing how very wrong she was. Laney thought if she was a good cop and catch the bad guys then everything would be good. Yet, everything unraveled for her and now she’s just trying to pick up the pieces of her life which lay shattered all over the floor. Alex is trying to do the same thing after he realized his life was following the wrong path. Now he just wants to prove he’s innocent of some of the things others believe about him. Unfortunately, that means having to come face to face with the one person who doesn’t believe he’s changed or innocent. Angela Ruth Strong has a wonderful way with words and action. This story was packed with action, drama, suspense and fun bits of romance. It was a non-stop story which held me captive until the very end! If you get a chance I highly recommend you pick this book up. I received this book from the author and all opinions are my own.
Angela Ruth Strong’s romantic suspense stories just get better and better. Her latest novella, False Security, is one I enjoyed because I can actually envision it happening. Often, it seems this class of novels has a healthy dose of improbability. Not so here. Angela also manages to insert her trademark humor and faith lessons. Yet, conversation never seems to get bogged down. The suspense element clearly moves swiftly along, with a couple of good twists and turns. Trust, faith, forgiveness, and life-change are all themes well-woven throughout this compelling book. For appropriate background music, imagine Whitney Houston’s 80’s dance beat in the background: “How Will I Know If He Really Loves Me?” Quotables:”He put the foe in phony.” and “She’d never see him for anything other than his mistakes.” I was given a complimentary copy of this book. (I also purchased my own copy.) No review was required, and all opinions are my own responsibility.
Laney Winters was the detective who put bank burglar Alex Pierce behind bars. But now he's free and claiming to be reformed while also pointing the finger at a trusted law enforcement partner. Who is trustworthy when the stakes are life and death? She'll have to figure it out soon, because someone us after her. Great premise. Love the found family aspect. Great redemptive arc. Funny banter. I was going a little crazy though with misused criminal justice terms. Alex was in prison, not jail. They are not the same. And robbery is done with force or fear. He is called a robber, but he actually burglarized banks and a home. Being a criminal, and with her as a detective, they would know that. She also laments being broke and alone once, but she has basically adopted an older couple as family.
False Security By: Angela Ruth Strong Wow, False Security will have you laughing and trying to read faster to see what is going to happen next. The story is fast paced and full of action, suspense, and romance. I did not want to put it down. Ms. Strong writes a romance suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat. we have an ex cop, an ex con who is just out of prison. These two are racing to try and clear their names. The two of them will just crack yon up. Are they innocent or guilty? These two have a trust issue. I was given a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Laney and Alex have met before: when she arrested him for a string of bank robberies. Now she’s off the force, accused of being a dirty cop when the money from those robberies disappeared from the trunk of her car. Alex has been released from prison and firmly believes he knows who really stole that money, but he needs Laney’s help to prove his suspicions. This is a fast-moving whodunnit with some minor moments that defy credibility and Laney sometimes comes across as overly dramatic, but it’s still an entertaining read.
I really enjoyed the relationships between the characters in this book. Forgiveness, trust, and love are never easy in real life and the author has done a brilliant job of expressing them. She also created a full circle between all the characters that kept me turning the pages.
False Security by Angela Ruth Strong is a fast-paced, well-developed novella. A new play on a cops and robbers story with some private investigator action added to the mix. A disgraced police officer and a newly paroled bank robber must team up to clear their names. It's a task that would be easier if they trusted each other.
Alex and Laney race to solve a mystery and clear their names. The suspense grabs you and pulls you through the book. I loved the storyline and the characters . This book is recommended for those who love romantic suspense
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It had plenty of romance and just enough suspense to satisfy. If you enjoy romance with light suspense then check this book out.
This book was very intriguing to me. The struggles we all have with self worth really hit home with this book. I enjoyed the plot and the characters. I also enjoyed the characters growth in Christ.
This story was cute and suspenseful and occasionally funny. It was a fun quick read. Laney kind of drove me nuts at times, but overall I really liked her and Alex’s dynamic.
I grabbed this book to complete a book challenge and it has been on my TBR for a while. I went into this novella with high hopes. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t quite what I was expecting. There was romance and suspense but some of it seemed a bit unrealistic. An ex cop and an ex con band together to try to clear their names of an issue that happened many years ago. I completed the book but I wouldn’t reread it. It had family and faith and those were good elements.
Laney, a go-getter, tough, and exciting character discovers, she's in a dangerous place.
I like this line: "Sic 'em, Angel." Thank heaven Laney fed the Pit Bull toast over the fence every morning. Angel had no such relationship with the gunman.
Then Laney found herself with a guy she wanted nothing to do with. Or did she?
Bullets fly in this novel. Action plays out in a fast pace.
