The Corville College Terriers, led by Matty Grogans, part-time garbage collector, play basketball with phenomenal success, due partly to the playing of Jay Blaisdell, who slowly comes to realization that a poor, small college can be worthy of his loyalty as a student
William Heuman was born in Brooklyn and attended Newtown High School in Queens. After graduation he became an office clerk and began to write on the side. Some eight years and one million words later, he made his first sale—a short juvenile effort for which he received $3.50. Thereafter followed hundreds of magazine stories, hard-cover novels and juveniles. Writing on a schedule, nine to noon and three to five, punctually, exactly, five or six days a week, Mr. Heuman typed or dictated, never writing in longhand. Always vitally interested in sports, he collected antique weapons as a hobby.
