One monster wants my soul. One man wants my magic. Me? I want to be left alone to live my life out like a dull, one of the lucky people who were born devoid of magic. But that won’t happen because being born a Wyrd Blood gives me two choices in ruler or slave. I’d rather die than be a slave and I’m not cut out to rule. Instead I’ve been hiding out in the Valley. Life is pretty good here, with food in my belly and a warm bed to sleep. If I didn’t get harassed constantly by Ryker, the man who wants my magic, it might be good enough to lull me into thinking life could continue on like this forever. UntiI I get a message from Bones, the monster who owns my soul…

Seriously.... Ryker is still sleeping with other women and getting jealous when he doesn't find the heroine in her room one morning... What a stellar character. Do people really think that's attractive?

Full Blood
Wyrd Blood-The Wilds book 2
Donna Augustine

Book two in Augustine’s Wyrd Blood series picks up right where book one leaves off with a lot of questions, uncontrollable magic and fragile relationships. The focus turns more urban fantasy in this installation keeping a moderate pace moving a bit slower than book one as the author builds toward the finale, dropping critical hints and filling in some story blanks. Readers learn more about the stars Bugs and Ryker and get to know the secondary characters a bit better too while the tension increases and a possible new villain is introduced. Bugs really starts to mature in book two and her compassionate side also becomes more evident. Fans will leave knowing more than they did and wanting book three with a passion. Series must be read in order.
Series Recap:
It’s 910 AC-After the change when magic was unleashed on an unsuspecting world and forever changed it and not for the better. Bugs has been able to keep her ragtag pseudo family alive if not well in the Ruined City but lately something’s not right and they’ll all die unless she can get better so against her better wishes they all go to the country of Valley under Ryker’s protection.

SUMMARY:
Bugs and her crew from the Ruined City have been guests of Ryker, aka The Cursed King and leader of the country of Valley. She needs his help to learn to control her magic if they’re ever to defeat their common enemy. Unfortunately their being in close proximity ignites a powerful but unwanted desire and she’d rather die a virgin than be just another of his playthings. But they’ll have to deal with their personal issues later, they’ve got bigger problems when their enemy, The Debt Collector is ready to call in all his marks and it’s her soul that’s on the line ¬– worse, he’s not the only one out to get her.

Full Blood, book two on the Wyrd Blood series by Donna Augustine.

This book continues with Bug's and her friends living in Ryker's (a powerful Wyrd blood) Valley.

The list of enemies continues to grow long for both Ryker and Bugs and time on Bug's life is ticking away, as everyone seems to want the power that is hidden deep inside of her.

Bugs is naive about her magic, having to hide it away all her life, she doesn't know how to use it to it's full potential. Ryker not being the best of teachers, is trying to help, though along with that comes frustration, anger, camaraderie and an undeniably passion, that is denied by Bugs and Ryker.

Though life has it's ups and downs and dangers and there is never a dull moment in this book. The mystery itself into why Bugs parents did what they did and who the Queen really is, is also intriguing.

It's very witty, comical, and sad at times, so have some tissues handy.

Well written from Bug's POV, you learn about her and the bond she has with those around her and battles she fights to protect them, which is truly inspiring.

Look forward to reading book three - when it comes out.

Ok

Book 2 got good for me at around 55% in... Bugs way of thinking still irks me to no end, I want to slap her, like her conclusions are so immature and annoying - literally makes me want to put the book down.
The ending was really good and il hoping that book 3 Bugs will come back with common sense pleaseeeeee!

This cover is horrible I know, and I shouldn't judge books by their cover but like this one could use some serious help. That being said, the second book in this series was pretty much just as good as the first, I liked the concepts and the magic, and, for the most part, the characters. I don't really know what Full Blood means, but like I said in my previous review, Bugs is the chosen one.

The biggest issue I have with it is probably the pacing. It feels like they all get hung up on random things forever, and then bam, everything is instantly solved. There isn't a great progression of things. The same goes with the romance, the progression is off. They have a lot of feelings and such but they haven't talked about anything and it feels like it just keeps going in circles. There isn't even any real hints that something is going to happen, it just feels like Ryker doesn't have feelings like that for her and is just sleeping around. Like, there was more romantic tension in the first book than this one and that feels weird.

Overall, pretty good but I'm still waiting for something extraordinary. I'm reading the next book right now and looking for everything to come together.

I liked this one even more than book one of the series, Wyrd Blood. (They must be read in order). Overall, I think I like this author’s Wild series more than this one just because that series has tons more humor, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with this series - it is a great fantasy story with super slow-burn romance woven in. It’s similarities to The Wilds are part of why I like it so much. Ryker is another stoic, quietly powerful hero who we all know loves Bugs, even though she doesn’t understand that yet. They both have strong magic and are dealing with various dangers; small, contained conflicts that fit into an overall series plan. Really looking forward to the third book now after how this one ended.

Good 2nd book

Told from Bugs POV, who is the female lead in the trilogy. The story has good world building and likeable characters. Slow burn romance with lots of sarcasm. A dominant male lead who likes to control everything, but can't control Bugs. Sexual content. Highly recommended

As always, Augustine’s voice as a writer was wonderful. Bugs was as relatable as ever, and the sexual tension between her and Ryker had me on the edge of my seat. However, this book did fall a little short for me.

Pros:
I really liked the conflict that Knife brought to the table, vying for Bugs to merge her magic with him and getting Ryker jealous. I had seen other reviews saying that Ryker was being hypercritical since he was still sleeping around, but I didn’t think he was. There was no attention brought to the lack of women leaving his quarters, but I did notice that Bugs stopped noticing them coming out.
Learning more about Bugs’s backstory was nice, getting a feel for where she came from, even if we are getting it a bit late.

Cons:
It would have been nice to know about things like the Boom and Bugs waking up on the dead pile a bit before they were revealed. That way we could have reacted to the possibility of a Boom outbreak rather than just expecting the tension to build itself with a quick intro to what the disease is. We could have felt Bugs’s heartbreak for her parents much more harshly than we did, with everything being revealed at once.
I hadn’t realized that Burn was interested romantically in Marra. That also could have used some foreshadowing. I only remember them interacting one time, but he’s all googly eyes at her now that she’s mad at Bugs.
What happened to Ruck that made him almost die?! We got zero explanation for that, and it feels like a cheap trick to create tension. He wakes up and the first thing Bugs wants to talk about is her sudden realization that she might be in love with Ryker, not what had happened to him.
What’s the deal with these magical stones? How do they work? Do they amplify powers? Are they some sort of kryptonite? All we know is that they need them. It would be nice to have at least a LITTLE more info about them.
If I’m being honest, not a whole lot happened in this book. It was a lot of filler. It was nice to have some time to get to know new characters, like Knife, but it also would have been nice to feel like the plot wasn’t at a complete standstill. There was no sense of urgency to anything, no feeling of moving forward.

I hope that the third book in the series wraps everything up neatly, and I’m excited to see how it concludes.

In this novel, Bugs deals with the Debt Collector and continues the hunt for magical stones. People are dropping left and right and there's treachery within the camp. Decently entertaining, but i was constantly irked by the parallels with other Augustine novels. E.g., in this novel, it's clear that Bugs isn't even working to get to know Ryker and though she's been with him for a few months, she doesn't ask basic questions. She thinks about things she doesn't know and decides it's not worth asking. Stupidest approach to life I've ever seen. One of the characters straight up says to Ryker, "Do you tell her anything, or do you like them young and stupid." That's pretty much the standard M.O. for all of the alpha dudes in Augustine's books. Dax, Cormac, Kane - none of them had a sit down instructional Magic 101 talk. It was all haphazard and on the fly. No way would I put up with that nonsense. So at one point, I decided that since all of her main characters are the same, I would simply start to consider them as the same souls in a different life. I think that works for me. And now I move on to book 3 and find out how this life ends for them.

Holy Sh*t this book had me completely captivated from page one until the very end....I will admit to want book three immediately!! I love Bugs, she is stubborn, independent, powerful and uncertain of herself...but she is surrounded by mystery-who is she? Who is her family? Then there is Ryker..stubborn, ultra powerful, closed up and sexy!! These two are borne to be together but they will not jump. It will be interesting to read what happens next between them! The supporting cast are all great...Ruke of course the best of them all and I just want to it Marra and wake her up!! There was not as much action in this book but the characters are developed further and I am now fully invested in their story! Highly recommended even if it is a slow burn...cannot wait for more of this exciting and intriguing story! Another home run by the talented Donna Augustine!

Two and a half stars

Ryker holds all the cards. ALL. OF. THEM.

He's powerful, ancient and rich. And Bugs is dependent on him for EVERYTHING from protection to food to a place to sleep.

Also, they have a super special bond that makes them want to do the horizontal tango but Ryker gets to ignore this and sleep with as many women as he wants. Then he's somehow angry at the thought of Bugs sleeping with someone else.

Then at the very end of the book there's a binding ceremony that give Ryker access to all of Bugs power.

IT'S COMPLETELY MISOGYNISTIC!!!

Which really sucks because I was enjoying this series.

3.5 - 4*

I want this to be a 4* but the ending/power is just lacking a bit.

These books are good. However, I wish that the battles or drama I guess you could call it were a bit... more? I’m not sure if that’s the right word. The story/characters etc are all great apart from that aspect. Her only power can’t be breaking wards, amping up other people’s power and having some good sass moments. I got towards the end of the book when something happened and I hoping she’ll just rage out and unleash something like Jane from x men and nothing. She’s supposed to be incredibly powerful but there’s nothing. She’s weaker then them but supposedly stronger. Show it then!

Thoroughly enjoyable but...

A thoroughly enjoyable read with everything I’ve come to expect from DA. My one criticism is that it lacked a real climax. Although the tension increased towards the end of the book I felt that it was missing a climactic scene. It’s almost like the whole book was leading up to the cliffhanger. Despite this I really enjoyed reading it.

I’ve never wanted to have a furious rant about a book so badly before.

I’m still shocked by how the book kept getting worse and worse. Honestly, I’m just mad I didn’t DNF. And I’m mad this book even made it out into the world.

This book is just the worst kind of example for girls out there. The entire time I’m rooting for the leads NOT to get together. The only thing giving me hope was that Bugs would FINALLY realize that Ryker wasn’t the guy for her and she’d move. the. frick. on.

It’s awful. She’s a creepy stalker who goes from 0-60 having a really hard crush on this guy. Every once in awhile she’ll have a logical thought but otherwise it’s all about him.

The plot felt thrown together and it was really just a means to give Bugs more areas to make a fool of herself and lust over Ryker. “We need beans.” “We need stones.” “You’re dying.” “You won’t die.” Blah blah blah.

It was so cringy, but I just told myself to look forward to the moment she finally realized he wasn’t worth it.

Even in the end...she never did. Ugh.

I can only assume the author has never actually been in love with someone or they’ve been on the not fun side of unrequited love for a loooong time, because this read like a cringefest diary of a weak heroine who never got the guy.

Who would even want Ryker? He has some redeeming qualities, but how does 50%+ of his actions not just kill it for Bugs?

I kept telling myself he isn’t actually sleeping with those women and something else is going on, but with my luck and the rest of the messed up logic in this book then I’m wrong.

I wanted to yell at Bugs so many different times. This is an abusive relationship.

She just wasn’t relatable, either.

Ughhhhhhhh. So mad I read this.

Bugs has always had to fight for everything she has ever gotten, so why should her soul and magic be any different? A deal she had no control over, promised her to a monster and the one man who promised to help her only seems to want to control her and her magic.

Bugs is a funny girl with plenty of snark and attitude. She is bound and determined that no one will tell her what to do and that she doesn’t need anyone, except maybe her best friend Ruck. She reminds me of an immature teenager that trusts no one, knows everything and is never wrong, which is what makes her such an endearing character. Given a little bit of time you can see the woman she has the potential to become. Ryker is one of those men, who gives away nothing and has perfected his poker face. He is arrogant, annoying, as well as caring and kind. The sparks that fly between Ryker and Bugs are spectacular opening up all kinds of possibilities for the next book.

Oh my great googly moogly

Aaaaaaannnnnd she has done it again folks. Donna Augustine has twisted my heart in knots and spit me out. By golly I have yet to read a book of hers I don't love. I love the Alpha, powerful males ( although one is on my grrrrrrr list untill I Get some stuff cleared up) , I love the nieve yet fierce females and all the sidekicks that join the fray. The only thing I can say in critique is that I have no patience and have to wait for the next, alas I will sit and chew nails till the next book comes.
Bugs is back and in the fray as new enemies make themselves known and companions turn. As they prepare for attacks from Bedlam new problems at home arise and old ones flare causing no end of trouble for our fierce crew. I just want to throttle some people and kick em in line in this book and that ending, I mean come on that was just........ Cwazy!!!!

Wow!

I can not tell you how hard it is going to be for me to wait for the next book. This was so good I reread the first book in preparation for this one and it was like going back home to visit friends I've missed. Bugs is such a strong yet naive and vulnerable character. She has finally started to adapt and dare I say trust her new situation and the new people in her life. The baddies are getting worse in this book and a storm is definitely coming but with her budding relationship we can only hope she can overcome. I have to say I love her relationship with Ruck her best friend and sounding board we learn how they met and see that she is capable of much love and deserves to be loved in return.

My rating is more like a 3.8*

I did enjoy this book, however I didn't think it was as good as book 1.
This one seemed a lot slower and all in all it didn't seem like a lot happened in it.
The main point for me was that Bugs (the lead female) seemed to turn into one of those females that can't make her mind up. Albeit she is getting hit from every side, but it seemed like the the fighter part of her had been turned way down and I missed that stronger side of her.
I did however enjoy the book, and will pick up the next as towards the ending of this one a lot of revelations came to which I believe will turn book 3 into a great one.
Hopefully Ryker and Bugs can stop dancing around each other and just realise what everyone already sees that would be nice too.

Something's off about Bugs. Her behaviour frustrates me. It’s not how a logical person would act, especially in crucial moments. Take Ruck’s injury, for example. Instead of demanding answers, Bugs wandered off for hours, spiralling into morbid what-ifs.

And when Ruck finally woke up? She didn’t even care to ask. No, she made it all about her, unloading her own emotional baggage like Ruck had just woken up from sleep and not nearly die! 🤬

Aside from the issue with Bugs' mentality, book two ended with so many questions unanswered. I’m counting on book three to deliver satisfying explanations. If these unresolved plots turn out to be nothing more than filler, I’ll be seriously disappointed!

The second book in the series and Ryker is still sleeping with everything that walks or breathes. Yet he is constantly jealous when any man pays even the slightest bit of attention to heroine? He even turns the heroine down when she throws herself at him, then continues sleeping with other women. I'm not into scummy man-hos and I have to say that Ryker disgusts me. Sorry but sex is more than a biological imperative, and the lack of self control is not sexy, it's nasty. That being said, I think that Bugs is infinitely pathetic to put up with it. So this was not an appealing read for me in the least. I found the same issue with this author in the "Wilds" series. And I'm not gonna deal with her "heros" anymore. I am so out!

Omg

I have no idea how this book was better then the last but it was so brilliant. I loved it. I have never highlighted so many passages on a book. Beautifully written this book takes you on an adventure I love the strong brave character of Bugs and Ryker is just a fantastic character. Some moments made me cringe I actually dropped the story and had a head in my hands moment 🤦 why did she do that 🤣. I laughed so hard and had a little sniffle. The best books do that to you. I love the world created fantastic read x

Loved it

The wait for this release was long but worth it! I love the worlds Donna Augustine creates. The different types of magic are fascinating and I love how they can interact with each other. Bugs is a great lead, stubborn and strong but loyal to the bone. The sexual frustration between her and Ryker is next level and their relationship dynamic just keeps getting better. I adore the supporting characters as well, Ruck, Burn and Sneak are great and really add to the story. Can’t wait for the next book

It was good. But I feel like I was waiting so long for it. And I hoped to see Ryker and Bugs relationship progress a little more. And I have to admit .. I'm not happy about waiting until 2019 for the next installment. But I'm not a writer so maybe I just don't understand. But I've read everything she's written. She doesn't have to drag it out for me...anyway love you Donna... And I'm Wyrd for part 3..

I truly hope it's released in early 2019. In the meantime, I would love a great book suggestion from you!

Loving this series!!

I am loving this series so much. This author, always knows how to make these stories that draw you in and keep you entertained. I love the female lead bugs, yeah she is alittle stubborn sometimes but hey. The male lead is frustrating me some, he obviously cares for her, but the women going in and out of his bed is a bit annoying. But that does not take anything away from how great this story is. I need the next one now!!

Thrilling - this kind of books are epic

I love how this series bounces in the romance department. Still curious how this will continue in the next installment. He sleep-ins with all those woman even when he knows she sees it ?
Hope she will make him struckle for it. I really love this tormented romance stuff... But why 2019? What a long wait. It was already hard getting in to this installment. It us hard to keep up with series that have such a long waiting time 😐

Summary: Everyone acts like petty children while a war looms over them. Occasionally Bugs talks to worms with her amazing incredible unbelievable magic in between underdeveloped subplots and contrived sexual tension

This book is a major disappointment of a sequel. There is no character growth at all from the first. What were believable character flaws turn into childish taunting and Ryker crosses the line from bad boy into tool bag land

Bugs story continues

I can not wait for the next story in 2019. I mean I hope Its not a full year!
The romance is slow burning as with all of Donna's books, that being said I kind of like that will they won't they. Not a lot of action this time round more story unravelling which was great. Who is Bugs really?? Royalty?? I guess we will have wait and see.

Waiting for the next book in this series will be hell.

What an incredible story! Augustine's writing is impeccable as usual. The Wyrd Blood stories move fast yet the character growth is consistent. Augustine's world building, while detailed, seems effortless. She is just an amazing author. I cannot wait to see what Bugs does next.
