Winnie-the-Pooh Goes To London

Rate this book
"London is a very fine place," announced Pooh.

When Winnie-the-Pooh ventures to London he's most surprised to encounter a blustery bus, a wobbly bridge and huge lions But the greatest excitement of all is when he stands in front of the gates at Buckingham Palace and a very important lady comes out to meet the crowd . . .

Featuring the Shard, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and many other famous London landmarks this is a wonderful celebration of a great city as seen through the eyes of the Bear of Very Little Brain. Mark Burgess's illustrations, true to the spirit of the original drawings by E. H. Shepard, perfectly capture this incredibly special meeting.

Pooh ranks alongside other beloved character such as Paddington Bear, and Peter Rabbit as an essential part of our literary heritage. Whether you're 5 or 55, Pooh is the bear for all ages.

(This is an abridged version of Winnie-the-Pooh and the Royal Birthday.)

Christopher Robin takes Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore on a day trip into London to see the sights and perhaps have tea with the queen. It's a cute little excursion out of the Hundred-Acre Wood.

Jim Broadbent reads the story in this official Disney video: https://youtu.be/t2tSqyVJC7M

In watching the video, I realized that the book I have in hand is a greatly abridged version of Winnie-the-Pooh and the Royal Birthday, which was also published as Winnie-The-Pooh Meets the Queen. Winnie the Pooh Goes to London eliminates references to the queen's birthday and an appearance by Prince George among very many other things. I may have to seek out a copy of the original for our collection sometime.

(My Pooh Project: I love Winnie the Pooh, and so does my wife. Having a daughter gave us a chance to indoctrinate her into the cult by buying and reading her every Pooh book we came across. How many is that? I’m going to count them this year by reading and reviewing one every day and seeing which month I finally run out. Track my progress here:

So cute. I like the pictures and some of the simple reflections, that remind us that often, we have forgotton that we were once children.

Read this cute poem from Pooh, which the gang wanted to give to the Queen if they saw her in London:

The Queen lived in her palace, as Queens often do.
Doing all those busy things that busy Queens do.
But the Queen could never know, as you and I do,
That doing nothing much can be the BEST thing to do.

So from a forest far away, on this sunny day,
We're sending you some of the quiet and a little time to play.

Isn't this love? Happying Pooh-ing everyone.

See on küll üsna halb idee, Puhh sõpradega 21. sajandi Londonis (Shard, Millennium bridge jne). Midagi sisulist ei juhtu, õiget keelt/tooni pole autor tabanud ja... kuninganna on pildil WAY liiga noor!

When I think of my childhood, I think of Winnie the Pooh, the first book I remember reading and the characters I loved on page and screen. My recent UK trip was very nostalgic and the bookstores I visited had adorable sections of books aimed at younger readers on London and beloved characters such as Pooh. I might be an adult now but I was still drawn to this one. It’s a lovely little story about Christopher Robin, Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore visiting iconic landmarks in London on a blustery bus, told in a style reminiscent of the original stories.

I'm partial to the vintage illustrations of Pooh and his friends, but the story of their little adventure in London is darling.
