The world laid out in this book is radically different from the Next Generation era as revealed in subsequent seasons (and series). Now, in fairness, there was only one season of TNG to work with when this was written - but they still took a lot of liberties. Nevertheless, it's an interesting read, as it creates an interesting portrait of what could have been had the Trek creators gone in a different path.
