A momma bear who won’t go quietly into the night no matter how hard Hate rages to take their lives. Today, on this day we honor sacrifices made, Hate has come out to play and the stakes are life and death.
Wow I thought this book was really good I felt so many things while reading it i felt anger, fear and sadness Mike this one really was a punch in the gut to me
Mike Duke did a fantastic job with this one and it was definitely a sensitive topic. This leaned on the extreme side of things where the other book I read by him was more of a cosmic horror type story. I like Fear the Gods just a little more than this one, but that doesn't take anything away from Hate Inexorable! This was a fast paced tale about hate, and Duke did a great job at making me feel for people I don't even really know! So kudos to Duke for that!
That's all I really have to say about the book. I gave it four stars and enjoyed it a lot! :D
So this book grabbed me by the collar and didn’t let go till it ended. The ride was fast paced and gave me some real anxiety filled moments. You go through a ton of emotions, sadness anger, confusion, and it actually sad to say translates to a lot of what goes on today. My favorite part of the book is that Mike makes sure you know that this isn’t a side picking political message. This book does a brilliant job of showing just how full of crap both sides are. Once you go radical and start using violence your message gets watered down. Great read!
HATE INEXORABLE by Mike Duke is the lightning-paced story of a man and his wife, along with their very young son, enjoying a holiday at the beach. But when their son begins having an asthma attack and they make their way to the car for his medicine, they discover the parking lot is ground zero for a heated demonstration by Antifa and several white-supremacist groups, along with cops in riot gear.
Every side is on edge as the white father and his black wife try to get their son help. But it seems there is hate on all sides as he's taken for a supremacist by Antifa and the actual supremacists become enraged that the white man had not only married, but made a baby with a black woman.
Chaos ensues as all sides descend into a disgusting display of hate for their fellow man. This novella will LITERALLY gut-punch you more than once, and it is NOT for the squeamish. However, it paints a blatant picture of what hate really is capable of, of how it can turn humans into monsters indistinguishable from the beasts in the darkest of horror films.
There is one part near the end where I audibly winced and had to take a break for a little while, and though it was painful, I had to read on after a few minutes, and I finished the whole thing within a two hour period.
This one borders on what you would call extreme horror. The violence is visceral and intense and unrelenting once it gets going, and there's little room to breathe. But if you can hold your breath and power through the most horrific parts, you'll find an important tale about who we are as human beings and what group-think and mob-mentality can do to people. It isn't pretty, and Mike Duke doesn't sugarcoat anything for us. He just serves it up raw and dripping and says, "Here it is, sure you want a bite?"
This one is mean, but mean with a meaning. It's not to be missed, and it will certainly make you think for a long time after the story is finished. So step on in, and learn something while you're here.
This could be a real life horror. Imagine making your way through a violent protest trying to get your infant medicine before an asthma attack kills him. Antifa, white supremacists, you get the idea. A race war. It's amazing what a mother will do to save her baby. Or not. The narrator was amazing too. This is one of those books where you can really sympathize with the characters.
This story kicked me repeatedly in the guts. What a horribly brutal little tale. While I must say that the story did not go as I thought it would, I LOVE the way it ended.
Holy Shit! That's what came to mind as I finished this read.
HATE INEXORABLE takes place on a sunny, calm, perfect day. Family of 3, Kendell, Krystal and their perfect little boy, Matthew, are enjoying the day at the beach. With sea salt scents and sandy feet, they are having a great time. Until events change and they soon become far from perfect. The family of three fight to the ends to protect their child. Both Kendell and Krystal fight against Hate in ways they never imagined. No Matter what Hate throws at them, they face it.
This was a gripping adventure from the start. Right from the start I was intrigued about the family. Once events change and the mood of this book change i was on the edge, and couldn't stop reading. HATE INEXORABLE being my first Mike Duke book, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was blown away. This was a fast paced, ghastly, bloody read that left me far from disappointing. I know I won't stop thinking about this for a long time coming. There were parts that were hard to read but at the same time I couldn't stop reading. A spine chilling read that proves that what they say about humans being the worst hunters are true. My first Mike Duke read, but will definitely not be my last.
A gripping, fast-paced novella full of terror, rage, and just plain craziness!
A married couple with a bi-racial child, starts off their Memorial Day pleasantly enough at a beach. But then it suddenly takes a dark turn.... Upon approaching the parking lot after a nice day, they are confronted with a rally. Mass hysteria, rage-fueled chaos, and psychotic actions soon ensue. Duke held nothing back, as unapologetic as ever, and I had a hard time getting through a couple of scenes. But he wrote so well, I had to keep going!
Readers Beware: This is definitely NOT for those with a weak stomach, an overly sensitive psyche. But if you feel you can handle it, then GET THIS BOOK.
I mean what is there to say really? This book had me going through every emotion, but mostly as said in the title, hate. It is a reminder of the depraved and unfeeling reality of people today. I felt that hate in full force, not only from the bad guys but the food guys as well. While this story will stick in my head for some time to come I'm sure, I'm glad I read it and recommend others do too. It's just another reminder of what an amazing author Mike Duke really is. Reading his books is more like having an experience rather than reading about somebody else's experience.
Wow. An exercise in absolute brutality populated with characters that beg for a violent end. Disturbing on a whole other level. It's reminiscent of the disgust and joy of retribution as in films like I Spit On Your Grave. Highly recommend. Mike Duke has hit a home run with this one.
"Hate is baggage, life's too short to be pissed off all of the time"
Kendall with his wife Krystal and toddler son Matthew decide to have a nice day at the beach on memorial day. It was nice until Matthew has an asthma attack. Fleeing to retrieve his medicine Kendall and Krystal find themselves stuck in the middle of a protest between white supremacists and Antifa. Being an interracial couple they soon find themselves fighting for their lives.
This book is a barn burner. Easy and a quick read won't set your mind at ease for long. When things turn sideways it's rough to look at and accept. Political discussions and nuances are out the window once molotov cocktails start flying. Reason has left the building.
The central premise of this book is intriguing and haunting. Simple, sure. Hatred begets hatred. Hatred is ingesting poison hoping the other person dies. When such inhumanity and depravity occurs how are we suppose to feel?
I was sent this book, by the author, in exchange for an honest review.
This book, while being novella length packs a punch. From the shocking ways things are described, to the raw emotions the characters have, this book is for sure a gut punch! While it deals with a heavy subject and the words that are used are heavy, these are things we’ve seen and experienced, so I think that mixing with the horror aspects this paints a truly painful story with a good resolution I feel. The tropes present (I can’t mention them cause spoilers) are done well and don’t feel forced and everything runs smooth here. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
Oh wow, what a brutal little story. It had me on the edge of my seat and didn't let up until the end. An innocent day at the beach soons turns into their worst nightmare for a couple and their young child. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time! Absolutely gut wrenching, so many scenes which left me gasping for air. It isn't often I can say this but I felt every scene. One in particular left me in tears. A great read!
Wow....... Too difficult to write this review without swearing but Holly shit this is powerful!!! Totally gripping and devoured in one sitting..... Ok its short but trust me you will not put it down once you've started it!!!! It's scary to think that there are people in this world like the evil protagonists in this story. Just wow..... And well done Mike Duke.... Bloody brilliant work! I'll definitely be reading more of his work!
What an excellent book to introduce me to this author. I thought when I first started that it was going to be slow paced but I was wrong, the action suddenly picks up and everything happens at once. I'd Definately recommend this book and I'm looking forward to reading more by this author
This story was raw, gritty, violent, but also full of events that could actually happen. Racism and hate are real, very real, and this story captures the raw hate and violent tendencies some people hold towards others, just because they are different or because of the color of their skin.
A misunderstanding escalates to the unthinkable. That's basically what this story's all about. What started out as a beautiful day, ends in the worst kind of tragedy. It's violent, bloody, descriptive, and touches on events that happen around us every day. I think that's what makes this story so damn powerful. It could actually happen. It's not 'out there' or 'unlikely to happen'. It very well could happen at any given moment.
As shocking and depressing as this story is, I think a punch to the face is a better description, it was very well written. It sucks you in from the very first page, it flows easily and it definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book. You'll get the wind knocked out of you, but it will be a very powerful and emotional ride!
5 out of 5 stars and my favorite book from this author thus far!
Great quick read! From start to end, this is very much a kick in the guts! Simple family outing turns into a wrong place at the wrong time scenario. This shows the irrational and pathetic narrow mindedness of people who it to condone vulgar attacks. You feel every bit of the rage and anger as the time progresses for this family trying to avoid the event entirely. My heart felt torn from my chest as a mother and as a wife. This is my first read by Mike Duke and it won’t be the last.
Brutal as shit, but honest as well. Some people cant face the truth, its to ugly. this country isnt like this is it, it cant be, isnt this the country where we are all treated as equals. People can be ugly, i just hope nothing like this ever happens to me, but if it does id castrate good ol roy. 5 out of 5 stars Mike
Wow, here’s a story that will make you stop, and think about things when your done. It has one of the most shocking scenes I’ve read ever the phrase “batter up” will leave you disturbed. This book is very prescient and should give you pause.

Wow....what a story!!! This one just punched me in the face, kicked my in the ribs and then went on to try and make me cry. WTF Mike!! I was not prepared. There were a few scenes where I tried to cover my eyes then realized I was listening to an audiobook so that wasn't going to help 😳😢😭💀 Ok, so the Audible vision of this was given to me by Mr. Duke a couple of days ago and I wanted to give it an honest review. It's a short one but it packs a big punch. I feel like this story is very relevant right now. Kendall and Krystal take their infant son to the beach for Memorial Day. What starts as a fun day rapidly changes when they are caught in the middle of a stand off protest between Antifa and some Nazi a**holes. Now the Nazi's are after the family and they will do anything to get Krystal and her child because they are what the Nazi's hate, a mixed race family with what they think of as an "abomination" for a child. This was a fantastic story! Fast paced and very will written. But it is definitely in the extreme horror category. Lots and lots of graphic violence and two scenes that will stick with me for awhile. **small spoiler ahead** Remember American History X? Remember THAT scene, the one with the curb? Yeah......so when something similar happens here that's when I covered my eyes while listening to an audiobook. I hated that scene in ther movie and I hated it here. I get why it was there but man does that make me hurt just thinking about it!! 💀 I definitely recommend this one to people that like extreme horror books. It made me feel happy, sad, angry, sick and heartbroken all in the space of an hour and a half. I have two more of Mike Duke's books (Where the Gods Sleep and Low) which I am going to definitely be moving up in my TBR pile 🦇
Wow. Mike Duke does not shy away from gut punches. And then, just when you think you’ve caught your breath, he kicks you (with size 15 black leather steel toed Doc Martins) in the lower abdominal area... errr the nether regions. Beware: Spoilers possibly ahead! Navy SEAL Kendall and his wife Krystal take their young son to the beach for a day. Matthew, the son, wakes up with an asthma attack. Oops. Medication is still in car parked a few blocks away. No problem, let’s go get it. Oops. The garage is ground zero between an Antifa protest being counter protested by White Suprematists and neo-Nazis. Oops. Did I mention that Kendall and Krystal are a mixed couple? No? Well, out of the frying pan and into the fire...quite literally. Well, to make a story shorter, bad stuff happens, even worse stuff happens and in the end it’s a tale of revenge, sorrow, and more revenge. Horror comes in many subgenres, and most of Mike Duke’s output falls into the bad things happening to good(?) people. This is a monster tale where the monsters are dressed in human skin. The fact that all the characters in this story exist in some way in today’s world makes this story even more terrifying. An excellent read. I have yet to read a story by Mike Duke that I haven’t enjoyed.
Hate Exorable is a fast paced real-life horror that shows us anger, hate and rage can make the kind of monsters that exist in this world today. A mixed race couple and their asthmatic toddler find themselves caught in the middle of a race riot when they rush back to their car to get their son’s inhaler.
From here on out our protagonists are pushed to the limits of fear as they try to protect one another when they are drawn in, attacked and pursued by assailants from both sides of the battle.
As most of the other reviews have stated, Mike does not spare any punches in delivering the horrors and the terrifying situations this loving family have to endure.
The material is extremely violent in places so if you are easily triggered, please be warned.
For me the themes of revenge and hate begets hate stood out while reading/listening to this story. Hate and rage have a knock on effect. And so by the end I was asking questions: how does it stop? When does it end? Where does healing, learning, acceptance and change enter our story? After all the bloodshed?
In Hate Inexorable Mike Duke holds a mirror up to the political climate of intolerance in the US and explores the growing acceptance and normilazation of political violence within our society. The book demonstrates with frightening clarity the horror that extreme ideologies (both left and right) breed and the danger they pose to even the most innocent among us. Duke's book is not the sloppy, heavyhanded propaganda of a political zealot, but a well-crafted story that addresses societal issues with even-handed tact. The compact story is packed with emotion and beliveable characters. Also, I was pleasantly surprised at how unpredictable Hate Inexorable was. There were several places where the story played chicken with over-used tropes, then veered aside at the last minute, leaving me genuinely surprised. Highly recommended!
Wow. That's what comes to mind after finishing this one. Mike Duke pulls no punches in bring you this story that will genuinely make you uncomfortable. Fast paced with no filler, he delivers characters that you instantly relate to. Takes said characters and runs them through a gauntlet of an all too familiar world you could simply turn on the daily news and see why humans are truly the most dangerous animals. Not for that faint of heart, but if you are looking for a brutally honest glimpse of a slice of life many of us will never know, read this story. Highly recommend.
Violent, brutal, and raw. Clocking in at just around 100 pages, events escalate and they escalate quickly; there is hardly any time to take a breath. This story is not for the faint of heart. And the most terrifying part about it for me is that I fear this could actually happen in the world we live in right now. So I do (highly) recommend that everyone read Hate Inexorable and take a few minutes to think about the state of our world today.
