Please see my review of Volume 1 for the general setup and background of this book. The review of Volume 2 is here.

When I was a little nipper, a set of feel-good books making the rounds were written by a Scottish veterinarian named Dr. James Herriot. I remember reading his stories: Taking a day off and buying sheep pluck at the market, almost inevitably a breathless little boy would run up to him with an emergency concerning his dog, for example. Herriot would drop his goods with a splashy thud and hurry over to remove a golf ball or billygoat scrotum from the dog’s throat, after which everybody celebrated in a face-licking, tail-wagging scene of sheer delight.

But a larger number of stories, if memory serves, had him being called out on a frosty night during calving or lambing season. With a groan, he’d spring from bed, drive out to a neighbor’s barn and greet the kindly but concerned proprietor, standing alongside his distressed livestock. The doc would soap up his arm before plunging it armpit-deep into the startled creature’s anus, pushing on inner walls while trying to get the calf or lamb turned around and delivered. Inevitably, he then described going home and snuggling back in bed with the wife, whom he always referred to as ‘angelic’. This sequence of events was repeated so often and with such relish that I have to wonder whether his wife outsourced her medical treatment or whether he brought this well-practiced backdoor approach to his own bedroom.

description

But that’s not the point. Herriot certainly loved his wife, and wasn’t shy about mentioning her bodily warmth and luminous skin when appropriate to the story. And, as a knowledgeable, kindly and presumably prosperous healer, I don’t doubt there were other ladies in his territory who might have wanted to make hay with him on occasion. The point is: the doctor, true to the nature of his job, was an exemplar of discretion. If he made an occasional snack of Scottish redbush pie, he kept it to himself. His medical and sexual lives were fully cordoned off from one another.

Whereas these Monster Girl Doctor books have become wearily mechanical. Every segment trudges the same path: Monster girl in distress. Hearing the rumors, Glenn and Saphee leave the clinic and track her down. Troubled monster resists aid until the pain or weakness becomes unmanageable, and finally submits to an exam. Though medically proper, these exams inevitably embarrass and humiliate the poor creature while arousing Saphee’s jealousy. After a series of misunderstandings regarding Glenn’s intent, they all live happily ever after, if sexually unrelieved. Or at least until the next monster girl goes into distress.

But I want to be fair and to end this series of reviews on a gentler note. (There are another seven volumes, but I am not sufficiently enthralled to continue.) The author also describes a society in which monsters and humans were at war, but one day, realizing nobody could even remember what the war was about, made a pact to co-exist. These books mostly took place in a former border city in which monsters and humans share space peacefully, and indeed even spend a great deal of time helping one another. This is more an optimistic view of what humans could achieve than a how-to manual, but even so, it’s a pleasant note underlying all the monster girl / doctor stuff.

This novel did something the previous two did not, it presented an overall arching issue that needed to be solved and everything that happens in the novel circles around it. I have to say it was a nice change from the previous two volumes and helped to set a lot of the world building in place. The reader gets to explore more of the city, as well as learn more about a few new monsters, as well as learn about the dragons who had only really been hinted at until this point.
We also get to see more into the relationship between the protagonist and his mentor, along with the various quirks that come with them working together to solve an issue.
Much to be said, I enjoyed this book a fair bit, and once I got going, had problems putting it down as I wanted to see how things turned out. That said, until the actual problem was revealed, it was a bit hard to get going on the story and I actually had left it lingering while I read other books. (hence why it took six months for me to actually finish reading this book)
It was nice seeing the cyclopes being something more than a lot of the other monsterpeople books out there treat them, and there actually feels like there is care and a thought process behind their place in the city and overall world. Personally, I never understood the Japanese obsession with cyclopes women, but at least this book tries to normalize them and their role rather than make their eye something sexual.
In the end, as mentioned, I really liked this book. I lived the plotline that stretched through the entire book and the sheer 'how are they going to solve this' that came with it. Everything felt natural between the various characters and we learn a lot in regards to some of the side characters and their history. And really, if you are planning on reading this book, you've probably read the previous two and are going to continue like I will be, so it's all good. If you like monster girls, this is the book series for you!

This series is quickly becoming a favorite among light novels. I also love the whole Monster Girl genre, so there's that lol.

This third book was nice because you got to see more points of views of other major and minor characters than the first two books. Can't wait for the next book!

While this remains a decent series, the chapter on the "inscrutable mind of women" and the constant harping on how unstable women are, and how men just can't understand us, rather put me off.

Welp, another monster girl doctor novel in the books (no pun intended) and it's actually pretty much as good as the other two. This time it was about Skadi, (the dragon girl from the other 2 books) having a heart shaped tumor and the doctor not only has to convince her to get the surgery but also has to perform the surgery.

The other story involves a cyclops girl who has no self esteem and the spider girl acting out. All in all, the whole novel focusing around the dragon girl worked as every other side story worked into this major dilemma.

The only real issue i have with these novels is the naga girl (sapphee) she's one of those anime characters that are SUPER jealous of any girls making passes at the doctor even though she's not his girlfriend. I really don't like these characters. if you're officially with the guy, fine. But if you're not, you can't call dibs on him like he's the front seat of a car.

I've seen this idea 14000 times before and i know the author is probably going to pair him with her even though they'd be an awful pair and i can't remotely stand her. I would give this book WAY more praise if the author paired him with ANYBODY else, but, my track record for that happening is terrible.

As it is, i don't really read these books for Dr. Glenn who's about as interesting as a sack of wet newspaper. I like it because they read like a procedural medical drama. Like imagine ER or House MD but with monster girls. The author actually goes into what medical issues creatures like this would have. "How WOULD a cyclops live with one eye? what negative effects would that have on things like depth perception and not getting motion sickness by not being able to use a second eye?" These medical issues are truly at the heart of the series.

I don't know what's the obsession with making nagas the main girls in these monster girl shows, but they kinda gotta stop it. it's annoying.

Saphee just...existing as a jealous bitch is really what stops this book from being a 5. Still though, love it for what it is, and even though Dr. Glenn is standard haremy mcharemson, i'll still continue on to the 4th book in the series. 4/5

I will be honest in this book, I personally love reading light novels. I actually got into reading for once in my 25 years of life because of light novels. I started in August 2023 and I have been reading more and more as time passes. This book was your typical kind of harem where the male protagonist slowly starts to accumulate more and more girls who fall for him. Some love some lust. Age rating would be 16 and below. I liked the book but the second case was hard to read. I found myself bored and had to take a break just to get through it.

Fun read and Dragon lady is hot and Good deal of greedy personality. Not what I expectect but welcome suprise. One eye girl is fun but need her own arc. Good relations progression. I love it so far but the centaur girls are still the best.

Skadi, the dragon councillor and founder of Lindworm has hidden her illness for a long time until she looses consciousnesses during a public celebration. Glenn is worried and he cannot leave things alone. Curing a dragon is not easy, not only because of the special tools and skills required, but also because she herself does not want to be healed. Throughout the story we are introduced to the new, most notably the socially awkward Cyclops Meme, and get to see a bit more on Skadi, Dr. Cthulhy and Arahnia. It has a more focussed plot than earlier volumes, and beyond the main case less on monster biology, but otherwise it is much like earlier volumes. In other words, a decently entertaining read with the harem tropes being just different enough to not ruin my enjoyment even if there are still the occasional cringe.

These books can best be described as cozy, just like with the earlier volumes I was left with a generally pleasant feeling after finishing volume three.
