The ultimate guide to an ever-changing city, the book covers every section of New York, from swanky Museum Mile to the now-fashionable Meatpacking District. Illustrated chapters and delightful walks, mapped point-to-point, celebrate the city’s fascinating history and architecture. Exhaustive, unbiased local reviews detail the hippest hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, sights, and shops.
I hope they plan to update this guide soon, as it's outdated, published in 2014. You can't be sure what is still around, restaurants and stores recommended might be gone now, in 2017. It's better than nothing, but check out other guides for newer guides.
Surprising for a travel book: Very complete! lots of info for tourists and citizens alike. Info about touring, sightseeing, restaurants, hotels and shopping - along with tips, sneak peeks, extra information sourced from locals.
Out of every travel book I have read, this one turns out to be the best (along with Insight City Guide). I feel like knowing much more of the city with this guide book. I don't need anything else to know about places in New York, what they eat for breakfast, the most romantic and expensive hotel, the decor of an expensive restaurant, the places African Americans usually live, the libraries.. etc etc.
I have always loved New York but never been. It is a dream of mine to live in New York for even just a year and this book has cemented that idea in my mind. This books has brilliant pictures and has all the information you need on what to do, see and be in New York.
Time Out is a NYC magazine, and this guide is as much for locals as tourists. For example, it tells you where to get an abortion in Queens! Not exactly the vacation I had in mind. : )
