Brilliant, soul-stirring, mind expanding stuff. My favourite theology book I’ve read this year. (By the way, it’s super short and certainly not just for Anglicans, but sadly out of print. If you’re interested in reading it—and you should!—I can send you a PDF of the library copy I scanned.)
This is a wonderful little book on the doctrine of theosis and it’s presence throughout Anglican tradition. It was really cool to see a lot of the connections between Anglicanism and the Orthodox Church.
Also, I think he is right to center Scriptures teaching that, in Christ, “we become partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 2:4) as a essential truth for the Church to embody as it seeks to be a faithful witness to the world.
Excellent discussion on theosis! Lots of thought packed into this small book. A doctrine that doesn't get much discussion in evangelical circles these days. This title looks back to show the history of this doctrine in the western church. I will have to read it again next year!
