Welcome to Shadow Valley where the Dirty Angels MC rules. Get ready to get Down & Dirty because this is Dex's story...
A stranger with a diary that contains a thirty-year-old secret. One that could rip a brotherhood apart...
DAMC born and bred, Dex was never like the rest of his club brothers. Even though being a biker was his destiny, something was always missing. He could never figure out what it was or why until one day a woman walks into Shadow Valley Pawn. A sexy, badass woman who challenges him at every turn.
When Brooke discovers the truth about her mother after her death, she comes to Shadow Valley. However, a simple trip to find answers twists into something she never expects. Not only that, but the successful businesswoman crosses paths with a biker who tests the control she loves so much both inside and outside of the bedroom.
Unexpectedly, Brooke not only flips a switch inside Dex and shows him his true self, she learns it's okay to give up some of the independence she holds onto so tightly.
But that's not the only discoveries the two make. One secret shakes the club to their core by exposing a member who's been destroying them from the inside out.
Note: This book can be read as a standalone. It includes lots of steamy scenes, biker slang, cursing, some violence and, of course, an HEA. If you like alpha males who like to take charge, this book is for you.

I didn't think I could love this book series anymore than I already did until Brooke showed up and stole my heart along with Dex's. Jeanne does such a great job connecting all the story lines and characters from the previous books while still giving this new relationship it's own space to grow. Dex is a man who finally realizes what he wants in life and is not ashamed of it which is really refreshing in an MC series. I literally laughed out loud at the banter between the brothers and felt the pain in my heart during the emotional scenes, which just proves once again how great Jeanne is at connecting with her readers.
26% into the book and I’m really not liking Brooke. I personally don’t like a heroine who constantly tries to prove she has bigger balls than the hero. She is also a bitch to him just because she gets off on it. I sure hope Dex remembers he’s got balls of his own pretty soon.
100% - I have never hated a heroine more than I hate Brooke. A female character can be strong, or even dominant, without being a selfish bitch. I wish more authors understood this fact. Brooke was a complete and total selfish bitch up until maybe 3/4 of the way into the book, when she sorta found compassion and her heart, and things kinda sorta equaled out a smidge more....kinda....sorta....but by this time she was irredeemable IMO. Too little, too late. The words “ordered” and “demanded” were used entirely too much for my personal taste. I don’t read MC romances to read about emasculated heroes, but that’s me. Until he remembered he had a pair, I had zero respect for Dex, and had very little for him at the end. Nvm, I still have zero respect for him. I would have DNF’d at 26% but I really wanted to know how the MC handled the fallout from other things that happened.
Time to take out the trash...is he going to get the boot or stripped of his colors? This is Dexs book but not talking about him. If you have read any of the earlier books you know who I'm talking about. There is new information and now it's time for a decision. Dex was born into the MC life and wants nothing else. He is a horn dog and knows he is missing something from all his hook ups but can't figure it out until a beautiful woman shows up and teaches him a thing or two. Brooke grew up around a three hour drive from the MC and knows nothing about one until her mother passed away and she is left with the job of sorting out her affairs. Her younger siblings left it all to her. While going through things she comes across an old diary of her mom's. After reading the little there is she knows what she must do. Go in search of a father she never knew anything about.
I really wasn’t a fan of this one. Unfortunately the reasons for this were:
1. I don’t like a dominate leading female. 2. All that the couple ever did was sex it up/argue/be chased down 3. Brooke annoyed me with her need to control everything and be in charge. I didn’t like how she treated Dex and how irritated she was over the name, Babe. 4. I wanted more depth to this couple- but they just loved to have sex- explore with her toys- her dominating him- and her pushing him away and treating him like crap and like his feelings didn’t matter. 5. Brooke was too selfish to me. 6. Bored a lot of the book. 7. The Pierce thing is way too dragged out at this point. He needed to be put to ground by now.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I really enjoyed having someone completely new to this life come in and twist all these bikers up on their heads. In a good way. A lot of things have finally come to light and I really am happy because I think it was the perfect time for it to all happen the way it did.
Brooke’s independence is a true testament of how much she has survived in her life and how she deals with it. I love that she is a little dominate to Dex’s more submissive but don't mistake that as not being manly because he most definitely is all MAN. But I like that in the bedroom he lets her take the lead. It really made for an interesting story.
The give and take really helped me to connect with both the characters I think if it had been too easy I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as I did. There was a struggle but not unnecessary struggle. I hope this makes sense. ;)
I loved the narration Jacob Morgan is a phenomenal narrator and is in the same league as Ava, and we all know how I feel about her and her voice is a crush ok I admit is I have a lady crush on the woman. If you listened to her you would too that is all I am saying. ;)
Not sure I could have liked the h any less. She was a horrible, hard headed b***h throughout the entire book. I was hoping for some softening later in the book, but by the point it came, it was too little, too late. I was so done with her character that I started to skim the book to just get enough to move on to the next book without missing key info.
Hated to give this one 3 stars, but that was being generous. Problem being the “h” Brooke, she was annoying, painfully annoying. Actually love Dex, but felt there was not a connection with the two characters and Brooke was all wrong for him. It was so hard to get through this one, especially after following Dawgs book.
This was a 3.5* read for me. Mainly because Dex and Brooke are a different kind of flavor.. One that I can't quite place. But also because Dex, I was wondering for majority of the book, why HE got a book... Anyway, if you like hot Alpha-Submissive males, then Dex and this book was written for you...
He and Brooke had some hot 🔥 intense moments, yes. Some I thought should have been expounded upon more, but whatever. That was my own greediness. Wanting to see EVERYTHING once I got use to the type of Tango they liked to do with one another.. But, even though this union was a bit unorthodox for me, in this world, it still somehow worked with them. And Dex is a teddy bear 🧸 So there is that too.
But what I really was invested in was the HUGE reveals as to why Brooke was in Shadow Valley to begin with, and all the other dirty secrets that came to light because of it. These things brought a major shift to the direction the club is moving in. Which was great and about time. What left me wanting big time was the details of what actually occurs with Pierce in the aftermath of such huge & grotesque reveals.. so these are all the reasons why this one received 3.5 * from me.
Hopefully I get more details on the Pierce front in Linc's book.
As always please read in order. This is an awesome series. READ IT!
5 star review of Down & Dirty: Dex Dirty Angels MC #8 by Jeanne St James
Audio Review
Raw and gritty there is something about this series that truly captivates me. This has become my favourite MC series that I have read. From start to finish Jeanne St James and the narrators Jacob Morgan & Ava Lucas drew me in and kept my attention. Ava Lucas has a versatility about her voices that really is fabulous and to me Jacob Morgan was was spot on as Dex.
I really liked Dex, I have from the first time he was mentioned, there is just something about him that really got to me. This one was just as emotional as the last book that I read in the series and had me riveted from the first chapter.
I loved how Dex found the something he had always been missing with Brooke and was able to give her control in the bedroom. It made him more human I think; these two were so good for one another. I also loved how all in Dex was and how much he fought to bring Brooke on board with their relationship.
I am so glad that the DAMC look after those they love.; the brotherhood and sisterhood found in the DAMC makes me want to be a member. The justice that was served was well deserved and I was pleased that Brooke got it for her mother and others who had been wronged.
This was a 3.5 rating for me. Mainly because Dex and Brooke are a different kind of flavor.. One that I can't quite place.
But also because Dex, I was wondering for the majority of the book, why HE got a book... Anyway, if you like hot Alpha-Submissive males, then Dex and this book were written for you...

This one ended up being very interesting. We haven't gotten to know Dex much, he mostly comes off as a hapless buffoon, loyal to the club, always looking to get laid and have a drink. Brooke really throws him for a loop in more than one way. First by what she came to town looking for and second by her personality. I really thought they would have butted heads more, but Dex was up for pretty much anything Brooke threw at him, which I loved. Sure some of the MC way of things drove her nuts, but they managed to work things out and by the end of the book she could see the good points. Which was a great thing for her as she needed people to fall back on for support. Her foundation was rocked with what she had learned, what she was forced to face and how things shook out in the end. It wasn't only Brooke who had her foundation rocked, it was the whole MC. It will be interesting to see where things go from here for them all.
3.5 Stars Do you like an alpha-submissive male? Well you get it in spades in this book. He's alpha outside the bedroom but in the bedroom he's totally submissive. I didn't care a lot for the heroine But I guess you need a bossy woman to be the dominant in the bedroom. It seemed to me that she wanted everything her way inside and outside the bedroom. I love this series and the secondary characters involved.
Now that I'm low-key ensconced in the DAMC family... I will give books 3 and 8 shouts out. These were the stories of club members and ole' ladies that either surprised me with how I got into them or offered a story arc or piece of the overarching narrative that I liked.
This one, with Dex and Brooke, had some culminations that were really meaningful: *More family sacrifice and giving in the epilogue *Dex's inner monologue that painted him as both submissive and dominant with his woman (beautifully beta) *Brooke'e quest, her strength that she backs up with some smooth moves, and the demons that drive her *And finally, some hard truths about the past and unburied ghosts come up and open raw emotion for the members. *Dex and Brooke's uncanny and explosive kind of love
This MC world is pretty decent. The build up of the their world from books 1 to 10 is like binge watching a series, and the build up, so far, has been way better than any one of the books, though on average most of the books are like 3 stars to 3.5 stars, with a lot of gem moments. Like I said...decent.
Hold on because this one is intense right from the beginning. Brook wants to know who her father is. She believes that he is part of the Dirty Angels MC. But she doesn't know who he is. But she knows what he has done. She meets Dex who is willing to help her but what is going to be the final price for both of them? I love Dex and Brook together. Such an intense chemistry. This book was gripping from beginning to end. Twists and turns that you don't see coming. A page turner that will keep you wanting more. I absolutely love the Dirty Angels MC. I love that Jeanne gives you the family background in each book. She includes the other characters and has their stories flowing from book to book. Love Dex and Brook hoping for more from them. Highly recommend this book and this series.
Dex is a born and bred DAMC man to the bone, but something was always just not wuite right for him. He just couldn't find that piece that was missing until Brooke walked into the the Shadow Valley Pawn Shop. Dex instantly knows he can't just let her leave and has to figure her out, and maybe himself at the same time. Brooke is in town for one thing, to find her father, and then get back to her life. It doesn't take long before Dex and Brooke get tangled into more than they bargained for. Things heat up real quick, both in and out of the sheets. This story brought to close a few things from previous books, and also leaves us waiting for the next! Loved this andf can't wait for more!!
I love Dex. I love this series. I love the Dirty Angels MC. I love the strong and independent women who make up the Ol' Ladies Club. I didn't love Brooke, the heroine of this story. I tried, but she just rubbed me the wrong way.
I'm glad Dex found the piece of himself that was missing, but I just found her to be too much. In her striving to be Betty Badas$, she came off as emasculating and often disrespectful to her guy. There is a difference in bedroom games, which Dex was all for, and completely trying to wear the pants full time in the fam jam.
I'm still giving this 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 because as always this author's writing is top notch, always has a twist and she knows how to write MC.
Ooooh, just like Marc from the Brothers in Blue series, Dex has a secret hidden under his shirt that I can't get enough of. Brooke is my kind of woman, tough as nails but with a vulnerability that you can't help but be drawn to. This book packs a punch not only in the gut but the heart, too. We didn't know much about Dex until this book, but he's proven himself and then some. I like a man who isn't afraid to switch now and then ... 5 stars!
Oh my gosh I freaking love this series and Ms. St. James knocked it out of the park, again! Down & Dirty Dex allows us to revisit the Dirty Angels rguys and their more than significant others and, as always, we’re in for the ride of our lives. Dex was so fun to read. He’s a little more laid back than some of his brothers, but no less dangerous or over protective when he needs to be. Brooke is tough and sexy, definitely holds her own in a sea of alpha males. This story had a dash of mystery and excitement and a whole lot of amazing sex! And of course it wouldn’t be a Down & Dirty story without the crazy back and forth between the guys and some thrown in by their ladies. And no spoilers, but my main man Diesel as a Daddy...priceless! Love that we also saw a lot more of Crow in this story...still waiting patiently to see who turns his head...she better be worthy of him. Great read Ms. St. James! I voluntarily read an reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU DON’T WANT SPOILERS * * * * * LAST CHANCE: SPOILERS AHEAD * * * * *
K. Was this a great addition to the DAMC story? A resounding yes. We finally got all the answers surrounding Pierce and just how dirty he was. Big Diesel finally got brought to his knees (literally) by his baby girl Violet. By the way, we need a novella on Diesel after Violet was born and him adjusting to being a daddy. By far the best parts of this book included Diesel and him being Uber protective of his baby.
But, this book was Dex and Brooke’s story. Outside of the bedroom scenes, I loved Dex. He was amazing. However, I didn’t think I would dislike another heroine less than Ivy...until Brooke.
This is my personal view only and I did not rate any less based on my personal opinion. I do not like a dominant woman. I just don’t. I don’t like a man submitting to a woman either in reality or in fiction. It’s not something I can relate to or connect with. I have no issue with a strong independent woman. But I don’t enjoy the female dominant, male sub story line. I like my alphas to be alphas in all aspects.
All this being said, the times the roles were reversed, albeit infrequently, made this book incredibly enjoyable. It was a true give and take and knowing when to pick your battles.
And now I’m left wondering more about Crow than Linc. And Linc is next. But I seriously need more Crow.
Great job, Jeanne! Aside from my own personal quirks, this was another solid read for me and can’t wait for the next!
So far I've really been enjoying all the books from this series... until this one. Sigh.
I'm not a fan of the tropes/ elements that make up the storyline. I had high hopes for Dex since he's Bella and Ivy's brother, and they seem to have a cool sibling dynamic - with Dex seemingly more laidback (in comparison to the others MC brothers), but still protective. But the second Brooke came into the scene, it was like a switch had been flipped.
Meh. Did not vibe with this one. Respectfully, not a fan of a stereotypical badass biker turn submissive for a snooty, coldhearted heroine. Dex not only lost his manhood, but was leashed to boot for the entirety of this book. In opinion, he deserved better. Also, the subplot centering around Brooke's familial connections felt like a forced expansion to the world-building. 🤷♀️
Unfortunately, the only thing I liked about this book was getting to see the supporting characters from previous books, and getting an update on their lives.
Swoon! How can I know not? THAT NIPPLE PIERCING IS FUCKING DAMN HOT!
Why does all this damn biker so hot and panties melting?!!!! Arghhh I just love this storyline it might not be as sweet as Linc and Jayde but it was amazing in its own way and I love it.
This story is unusual because you have a biker dude who is... submissive in bed.
I felt that Brooke was trying too hard. She's almost violent, and I understand that if that's your kink, but it didn't feel like a kink with her. It felt like she had something to prove. There was almost a desperation in her not to let anyone else get the upper hand, not even in bed. A "ball-buster" kinda woman.
And there was no reason for her to be like that. According to her, she had a loving relationship with both parents, although her dad died when she was a teen. If a character acts in a certain way, then I expect his/her backstory to explain how or why they became that way, but Brooke's backstory explains nothing.
When I say it explains nothing, it not only doesn't explain why she's so desperate to retain control and not show any weakness. It also doesn't explain why she's so good at fighting or shooting that she can take out two armed men while Dex stands there, helpless. You don't get that good without training, and you don't train that hard without a powerful motivation. She's an interior designer, which still doesn't explain any of that.
On the other hand, Dex fell for Brooke the moment he saw her, so for him it's instalust which quickly turned to insta-love, even if he didn't recognise the latter. And basically he acted like a puppy dog around her. He had to ask her to let him be the Big Guy around his brothers so that he could save face with them. As a result, in front of them, she would allow him to call the shots and tell her what to do.
Although I'm not in the lifestyle, I know that being submissive in bed is a sexual preference that doesn't mean you're submissive in other areas of your life, too, and likewise, if you're a dom in the bedroom, that doesn't mean you're always in dom mode outside of it. That's another reason why I didn't feel that it was a kink for Brooke. It was more of a personality thing, that she just wouldn't relinquish control and had a fear of letting anyone else get the upper hand. It's not a sexual thing for her -- it's not that being dominant turns her on. I winced through the sex scenes when she pinches and bites and scratches deliberately to cause pain, to show Dex who is in charge. It felt vicious.
I haven't read the other books in the series so I came in the middle of the story arc of the war with the other MC, but it was easy enough to follow and I didn't feel lost at any point. But I just didn't feel the emotions between Dex and Brooke. It's mostly sex that ties them together, since Dex finds that he likes Brooke's aggressiveness in bed, and it's something he has never experienced before. He hardly knows anything else about her, so how could it be more?
What a story! You would think after 7 books about an MC, Jeanne St James would run out of original ideas. But this story not only features Dex and many of the previous members of the club, but brings in Brooke giving us a completely new and different look at the MC . Brooke is the ultimate heroine. She comes into the story with a bang, and never stops. Looking for her biological father, Brooke not only stirs up a whole lot of dark history and betrayal, but she wins the heart of Dex. I love both featured characters. Brooke has a vulnerability despite her bravado. I don't know if she is incredibly brave or works off of emotion. Either way, she is someone you don't mess with and can't help but love and respect. Dex compliments her perfectly. He knows when to back down and when to take charge. I love him knowing how to keep her happy and that he is comfortable in his own skin knowing what he needs to do. Catching up with the rest of the MC is just a bonus! And Diesel....that man....you will understand when you listen! Another incredible book! Keep them coming Jeanne, we love them!!!
Every book in this series has the narrators so perfectly matched to the characters, it's like you knew them before you even start. Dex is a complex man, and Jacob Morgan gives him that sound.Morgan as Dex has that strong alpha sound he is so good at. And then at the same time, he can add an inflection or an emotion that makes Dex soften. I love that about him and think this pairing could not have been better. Ava Lucas, always incredible keeps the women of the MC fresh. Her portrayal of Brooke shows how strong she is, but you can hear the hurt and underlying betrayal under it all. It takes a special voice to be able to give all the emotion in a single word, and she nails each of these women every time. Again, the best team for this story, St James has a winner.
Gotta say Dex & Brooke’s story is quite different then the other books in the DAMC series, but definitely not disappointed!! Jeanne St. James took us on a crazy ride with book 8 and I loved it!! Besides each book having their own HEA, you never know how these alpha males are going to fall and give their hearts to the women who wrap them around their fingers. Can’t help who you fall in love with, or how, just matters that you find yourself and your soulmate in the process. This book is a perfect example of that. I’ve read a couple of reviews on how they didn’t like this book. I know I definitely disagree. When you drink coffee, it’s still coffee no matter the cup/mug it’s served in. It’s the same with Dex’s story. Same HEA just with a different twist. If all the books were the same in the series then there wouldn’t be 10 books out already and hopefully more to come. It would be predictable and who wants that...I know I don’t. Each book in the series has been different, but yet still giving you information on past characters, great original storyline for the current couple, plus hints on the possibilities on what’s to come. All the DAMC females introduced in the series have been strong woman, which is one of the reason why I love this series. Brooke is no exception. Strong, independent, dominanting, but still has a heart who loves her man and brings this alpha male to his knees. Love, family, and loyalty screams in this book just like the other books in the series. Keep your mind open and you’ll love this book as much as I did. My opinion, well earned 5 stars and cannot wait to start reading Linc’s story next in book 9.
Well done St James, and please keep this DAMC series alive and going cause I can’t get enough!! Thank you for another great read :)
I know I've said this multiple times in my reviews of the Dirty Angels MC, but I freakin' love this series!! The men of the DAMC are bearded and tattooed men with strong alpha personalities. It is that reason I was completely shocked to find out what Dex likes in the bedroom. No spoilers here though. You'll have to read for yourself to find out what he and Brooke get into when they're behind closed doors (or out in the open). I love how Dex's protective instincts come out when it comes to Brooke. Speaking of Brooke, she fits right in with all the other ol' ladies. She is tough as nails, fierce, independent, a cracked shot, and doesn't put up with any of Dex's crap.
There were quite a few secrets from the past revealed, all of which shook the DAMC to the core and made my heart hurt for all of them. Brooke and Dex's story wasn't all seriousness and heartache though. There was some seriously smokin' hot action between these two! When they weren't steaming up the sheets or dealing with the past, they had me laughing out loud. I can't believe I almost forgot to mention that a very special event happened in my favorite DAMC man's life. Although I love them all, Diesel still takes the top spot on my DAMC boyfriend list. He made me melt and fall in love with him all over again. You've got to read this to find out why! I highly recommend reading this series and can't wait for Linc's book. *I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest review.*
WOOOOOOOW. Okay. Just. Wow. This was the 8th book in the DAMC series from the wonderful Jeanne St. James. I can honestly say that these books not only are getting better and better but they are definitely keeping me on my toes. How can I wait over a month for the next one?? I enjoyed reading this book because it was so different, it was different and unique. I haven't read many books that are like this one, because women like Brooke are not usually a huge favorite of mine, especially the ones that get so irked when someone calls them "babe", but Brooke made it work. Brooke is an extremely independent, business owner that comes to Shadow Valley in hopes of finding answers, but of course she runs into Dex (which by the way keeps wanting to autocorrect to "sex" lol!). Dex and Brooke were electric together, like seriously, you could feel that sexual chemistry coming off the pages like crazy! I was also pleasantly surprised by Dex, only because I didn't feel like I knew enough about him from the previous books, but boy oh boy did he deliver. Dex was overprotective, and surprisingly sweet. He didn't want to take away Brooke's independence but simply wanted to be a part of her life. I do enjoy overly possessive alpha males, but I was happy to see something slightly different play out. Also, we got to see more of the D's sexy "Shadows", anyone else dying to read that series?? Because I. Can't. Wait!
Bit of a sexual twist in this one & I really liked it! Dominant women rarely get space in alpha male romances & I appreciated the switch up. Brooke is a strong independent woman, who owns her own business & is in town looking for her father. She doesn't know anything but that he is a Dirty Angel. The first Angel she meets is Dex, who is instantly turned on by her & has no filter. But Brooke can and does work with that, eventually pulling him into the back of her BMW & having *her* way with him. Brooke likes calling the shots in the bedroom & Dex finds himself really enjoying it. And is no less of an alpha for it. She also ends up saving them both from an attack by a rival gang. Dex wants to protect her, wants to be the bossy alpha but Brooke doesn't play that way. I've always wanted to see that dynamic in one of these type romances & I was not disappointed. They have their ups and downs (like all couples) and she can be a closed off hard ass, but so can most of the men in this series so I am not dragging on her for being that way. The overall plot was good, we learn more about what a heinous person Pierce is, there is still trouble with a rival gang, but mostly it's about Brooke & Dex and how Brooke's quest is pretty much exploding a bomb for the Dirty Angels. I also enjoyed watching Diesel become a dad. This was the first book where I actually ended up almost liking Diesel. (I can't stand the guy) Recommended. Will read again.
Wow! Talk about opening Pandora’s box!! Highly recommend!
This is a MC series, but they are not an outlaw club anymore. Even though they are legal they are still not afraid to do what is needed to protect their family.
Therefore, this is recommended for mature readers only (18+ years old) due to subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language throughout, steamy intimate scenes and violence such as assault, rape, sabotage, death, etc.
While this could be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend it be read in series order for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers since there are reoccurring characters and an overall storyline arc with a rival nomad MC.
I found Dex to be different than any character I have read about in a long time. I just wish there would have been more detail provided on some of the scenes where he got to discover his true nature .... just saying some bonus scenes would be nice in the near term. 😍
There is a lot of things that come to fruition in this story. It is emotional, raw, and sections that were a difficult read for me, but were needed to expose some of the past and to demonstrate the strength of Brooke, as well as the relationship they had inadvertently built.
Not going to say any more as I don’t want to accidentally provide any spoilers, just advise for future readers.
