Queen Elizabeth II is one of the most important cultural and political icons in modern British history. As the United Kingdom's longest reigning monarch, she is known for her poise, wit and class. Pocket The Queen Wisdom is an inspiring collection of her majesty's best loved quotes on life, family, politics, fame and history, and celebrates her immense legacy. Some quotes from Queen Elizabeth `Grief is the price we pay for love.' `The world is not the most pleasant place. Eventually your parents leave you and nobody is going to go out of their way to protect you unconditionally. You need to learn to stand up for yourself and what you believe and sometimes, pardon my language, kick some ass.' `I cannot lead you into battle. I do not give you laws or administer justice but I can do something else - I can give my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations.' `I have to be seen to be believed'
Words of wisdom and insight about life, family, loyalty and community are all packed tightly into this little book. Pocket the Queen Wisdom is lovely compilation of quotes that offer a more intimate glimpse into Queen Elizabeth’s heart and mind.
”Grief is the price you pay for love.”
We often think of royalty as self-absorbed people who are immune to hardship and emotionally disconnected from the world around them. But it is books like this one that often sheds light on how wrong we can be to stereotype people. Even royalty are human and feel and indeed are not immune to the troubles of life. Queen Elizabeth ll carried a heavy weight on her shoulders to present a professional and almost perfect image of herself in public. But behind closed doors when the charade was over, she really just wanted to be with family and live a simpler life.
”I should like to be a lady, living in the country with lots of horses and dogs.”
I also enjoyed the fun facts about Queen Elizabeth at the end of of the book. Did you know she wore the same nail polish, Essie’s Ballet Slippers, every single day since 1989? And she needed a license to drive or a passport to travel internationally? The only complaint I have is that I wish the book was longer. It was a fascinating and pleasant read.
