Astrid Anna Emilia Lindgren, née Ericsson, (1907 - 2002) was a Swedish children's book author and screenwriter, whose many titles were translated into 85 languages and published in more than 100 countries. She has sold roughly 165 million copies worldwide. Today, she is most remembered for writing the Pippi Longstocking books, as well as the Karlsson-on-the-Roof book series.

Cute story of Rasmus search for parents and love. I really enjoyed reading this and it was an easy read. Sometimes the story was sad because this is a child struggling in life, but the ending is great! We grew up with Astrid Lindgren books and I was happy to find this book at the thrift store. That is why it gets 4 points.

رواية طفولية جداً، ندخل معها إلى عالم "راسموس" الصغير وأحلامه البريئة وتساؤلاته الساذجة والعفوية وتفكيره الطفولي، كان بطلنا الصغير يعيش في ملجأ للأيتام والذي لم يعرف غيره في هذه الحياة الواسعة، كان كل ما يحتاجه ويرجوه في ذلك الملجأ هو وقتاً للهو واللعب ليس أكثر، بينما حياته في الملجأ كما يراها "راسموس" أشبه بعبودية، لكن ذلك بدا ترفاً حسب رأي السيدة "هوك" التي ترى أنه من المهم أن يجيدو عملاً ما ينفعهم بعد خروجهم من الملجأ، كان إلى جانب تلك الأمنية وكل الأماني الأخرى يحمل في قبله الصغير أمنية كان يتوق إليها ويتمناها بشغف كان يمتلك رغبةً عارمة في أن يعيش في كنف عائلة يحظى فيها بالرعاية في جو عائلي يثير فيه الإحساس بالطمئنينة والراحة والدفء، لم يكن قلبه الصغير المليء بالأمنيات بقادر على إخفاء تلك الأمنية، بينما استطاع رفيقه "غونار" أن يكتم ذلك، لم تتحقق تلك الأمنية عندما جاء أحد الأوصياء لاختيار ابناً لهم لأنهم لم يرزقوا بالذرية، لأنه ببساطة لم يكن كالموديل المطلوب كان فتى ذَا شعر أملس بينما كانوا يفضلون فتاة بشعر أجعد!
بعد تلك الحادثة وبعد أن فقد كل أمل ممكن وتلاشى، قرر راسموس الهرب من الملجأ، وفي طريقه يلتقي صدفة برجل متشرد يدعى "بارادايس أوسكار" كان كسولاً نوعاً ما ولا يحب العمل لكنه إذا جاءته رغبة في العمل فإنه يعمل بجد، فهو باختصار إما أن يعمل بجد أو أن لا يعمل، فيتعلم "راسموس" منه الكثير .. تواجههما الكثير من المخاطر ويُتهمان بسرقة منزل المرأة العجوز .. هل سيخرجان من ذلك المأزق؟ وهل ستتحقق أمنية راسموس؟

الأحداث جميلة ولطيفة .. والترجمة جيدة ..

Poor Poor Rasmus. If only he had curly hair and better yet- was a little girl instead of a boy with straight hair. Surely if he was, the nice families would come and adopt him from the orphanage, Right? While the older boys try to tell Rasmus to stop hoping for a family, he simply can’t give up the dream and settle into the orphanage life, which is all he has ever known. Rasmus is a pretty good boy, but he just cannot take the orphanage anymore and he runs away wishing for freedom and hopefully a family. It turns out, freedom is scary when you are a little kid in a dark, cold and foodless world. Oh, he forgot about hunger! And Man, is he cold! Thankfully our little friend bumps into the friendly Oscar not too long into his newfound independence. A disheveled, friendly man who declares himself to be God’s best friend.

Together Rasmus and Oscar travel the countryside in search of food. They sing for their supper (Oscar is a wonderful accordion player how can earn decent money when he tries) and do various chores to get by. The country setting makes me want to get out of the city immediately and go for a stroll down some dirt road and just enjoy the world for a bit. In fact, I was jealous of it all if I am honest and can see why Oscar chose to be a wandering bum. The world isn’t all rosy for our friends. The police suspect them of stealing all the time, and they bump into two very bad men. I do not want to wreck the surprise or storyline, but this isn’t just a cute story about a friendship between a lonely boy and a nice man. There’s action in it to keep the kids entertained. Action with guns, and rolling fist fights, Jail-time and secret hideouts.

For a book written in 1956, Rasmus and the Vagabond sure is a timeless and wonderful read. Astrid Lindgren does a fantastic job writing books that kids and adults both love. There was emotion that made me want to hug poor little Rasmus and his fantasy of a mom to hug him when he is sick, and action enough that kept me reading late into the night to see what was going to happen. When I closed the book… I literally sighed a happy sigh and went to sleep with a big silly smile on my face. I thought I knew how it would end, but I didn’t guess correctly! I have read a number of Lindgren books, and this one is my favorite so far. I am so glad that Plough Publishing re-released this story (using the same illustration as the older hardback versions) the book world is a better place because of it. New York Book Review is releasing two other Lindgren books in May that I am eagerly awaiting so I can read them too. Mio My Son, and Seacrow Island so be on the lookout for those too. It has gotten to the point where I don’t have to know what the book is about, if Astrid Lindgren wrote it, I’m going to read it. I know it’s early in the year still, but for now Rasmus and the Vagabond is my favorite read of 2015. I received a copy of this book for review and its going on my favorites shelf.

Both excitingly dramatic and sentimental. With a wholly satisfactory, if implausible, ending. I would have read it a couple of times when I was young, but it would not have been one of my favorites. Though an older book, it holds up just fine as a sort of timeless fable.

I especially appreciate that the mistress of the orphanage is penurious and strict, but not wicked.

Through the many lists that I have acquired through out the years on books to read aloud to and books to let middle readers delve into, Astrid Lindgren has always been recommended. There are a few titles I often see, including her heroine Pippi Longstocking, but what about for the hero-inclined (aka boy) readers? Thus, we have Rasmus.

I love this cover! The book itself has that soft feel and the colors and image to the cover image are very attractive (Kudos Eric Palmquist!). For my personal book lists for my students I am a fan of the vintage classic books and it makes my heart smile when publishers republish titles that are worthwhile to be in the hands of a child. Originally published in 1956 and renewed and reinvigorated with life for a new generation for 2015, Plough has this in a pretty package. (Even the back cover text is in attractive fonts and shades!)

Rasamus and the Vagabond is engaging for the young reader. Our hero here is about the age of nine, and my 5.5 year old daughter is not quite ready for it alone, but I plan to have him nearby for introduction within a few years. I think she shall meet Pippi first. I won't hesitate to read this aloud to her at this point (little violence, but much like a classic old tv western) but would want to wait to have her read it alone to make sure she would discuss with me any fears and situations.

I'd recommend this if you enjoy Pippi, or Charlie (and the Chocolate Factory), or Wilbur (Charlotte's Web). 14 chapters of adventure that can create discussion and truly make you think.

When you think back to childhood, which books and literary characters hold a special place in your heart?

När jag inte kan sova, vilket just nu är precis varenda natt, brukar jag lyssna på Astrid Lindgren som läser upp sina sagor. Har blivit matad av hennes berättande röst för evigt och kan inte annat än älska den. Finner så stor glädje i att svenska är mitt modersmål när jag tänker på Astrid Lindgren för det finns något så tryggt men samtidigt skört liksom sårbart i hennes ord, det känns omöjligt att översätta dem på rätt sätt. Älskar Rasmus och Oskar och kattungar som äter sill o potatis, ska börja logga mina nattliga lyssningar på goodreads, högläsning av författaren måste ändå gillas som att man läst en bok?

Who hasn't heard of Pippi Longstocking? She's famous, right! The brave, adventurous girl with the red braids isn't the only lovable character created by author Astrid Lindgren. I'd love to introduce you to Rasmus! Rasmus is a little orphan boy who lives with many other children at Vaesterhaga, the local orphanage. He's never chosen by the couples who come to visit, and he's had enough of Miss Hawk. He is afraid of never being chosen, so he decides to set off on his own to find parents.

Instead, he finds a kindly vagabond named Oscar. Oscar takes Rasmus under his wing and cares for him out of the open road. He agrees not to take Rasmus back right away and to help him find some parents. They sing for their supper and sleep in barns. They also stumble upon a robbery! Rasmus and Oscar get tangled up in the action. Will they save the day or end up in jail? You'll have to read to find out! Will Rasmus find new parents, or will he have to go back to Miss Hawk at Vaesterhaga? Another reason you'll have to read this!

This is a delightful story with wonderful characters. I absolutely love Oscar. The story is so cute and full of fun adventure that your children will love! This story was written in the 1950's, but children today will enjoy hearing about Rasmus and Oscar. It would make a great read aloud. Since times have changed so much, your child might need some help understanding that this story was written in a different age. It would be a great teaching tool!

I don't care what the publisher says! They're wrong! There's no way that this book is just for 8-12 year olds. ~smile~ I enjoyed this book so very much. Who cares if I'm old enough to have teenagers?

It was an easy read that was refreshingly clean in contrast to so much of the twaddle that is currently being published for kids. It was nostalgic and innocent. I'm going to encourage my thirteen year old to read it anyway just because it's a fun book. It's a reprint of an old book written by Astrid Lindgren the author of Pippi Longstocking. I loved that book as a kid. I think that it would make a great read aloud or a great gift.

القصة موجهة للأطفال ولكنها وبكل تأكيد تناسب الكبار بما فيها من أحداث ومغامرات وكم هائل من العواطف، يفضل قراءتها مع الأطفال نظراً للمفردات التي قد تصعب عليهم، ونظراً لحجمها الذي يعتبر كبير نسبياً بالنسبة لقصة أطفال "١٩٥ صفحة"، بشكل عام القصة جميلة وممتعة كما احتوت على رسومات شيقة تجذب الأطفال وترجمتها جيدة.

I loved this book! From start to finish, Astrid Lindgren had me hooked. This is an excellent story to read to your children at bedtime - a chapter or two each night - will wisk them off to dreamland where they can travel the road with Paradise Oscar and Rasmus in search of parents for Rasmus. They have many adventures during their travels and even solve a mystery! Children of all ages, young and old, will enjoy this book!

One of the most amazing books for a child to read. First read it when I was seven. after crying my eyes out, and taking 3 days of crying to get through the sad part, I got through it, and read it a million times more!
I certainly recommend it to anyone at their teens, even above, but mostly best for kids..

Väldigt spännande att få följa Rasmus på hans äventyr, att hitta en familj, en familj som vill ha en pojke med rakt hår och inte en flicka med lockigt hår. Rasmus möter luffaren Oskar och så råkar han lösa ett fall, han hittar också en fin familj, men den vill han inte ha, för Oskar är så mycket mer trevligare.

В детстве я не очень любила книги Линдгрен. Наверное, причина была в том, что как-то неловко становилось от того, что ее герои такие дерзкие и сумасбродные. Вот, например, Пеппи или Карлсон. Отъявленные негодяи, как по мне. А я была примерной девочкой, мне с Пеппи было не по пути.

Мне стало интересно, все ли герои такие у Линдгрен или где-то есть место культурным детям? Ну, не роботам, конечно, но просто, чтобы мир дом мог остаться целым после того, как они оттуда выйдут. Для проверки выбор пал на повесть "Расмус-бродяга". Этот мальчонка понравился мне гораздо больше вышеупомянутых знаменитых субъектов. Он мне ближе и понятнее. И человечности в нем намного больше, чем у той же Пеппи или Карлсона.

Повесть скорее всего предназначена для мальчишек. О девчонках здесь не очень хорошо отзываются :) Хотя, с другой стороны, почти "настоящий" детектив с расследованием-преследованием может оказаться по нраву и юным любительницам погрызть ногти.

В этом изданием (я читала в электронке, но картинки там были) совершенно замечательные акварельные иллюстрации. Невычурные, легкие, понятные. Именно для детей, а не для взрослых, которые любят детские книжки.

تدور القصة حول الصبي راسموس الهارب من الملجئ، ورحلته مع المتشرد أوسكار، أو كما يحب أن ينادي نفسه: "أعز مخلوقات الله" (كما يشرح في نص الصورة الثانية).
تسلّط الرواية الضوء على حياة المشردين بإنسانية صادقة، حيث يبدو أن انتشارهم في أنحاء السويد آنذاك (الخمسينيات من القرن الماضي)، قد استدعى كتابة مثل هذه القصة. ورغم امتلائها بالتفاصيل التي تجعلها واقعية بشدة، كانت أحداثها سريعة وغير مملة إطلاقًا، ووجدت نفسي أعود طفلة وأنا أقلب صفحاتها بلهفة.
في الحقيقة، هناك عفوية ساحرة في هذا النوع من الأدب تجعلني ألجأ إليه بين الحين والآخر. فهو يلامس القلب ببساطته وصدقه حتى تكاد تنسى أنه موجّه في الأساس لفئة عمرية أصغر. ورغم هذه البساطة الظاهرة، يظل أدب الطفل محتفظًا بعمقه. وهذا على ما أظن يجعله مناسبًا ومسليًا للقراءة في أي عمر، تمامًا كما هو الحال مع الأمير الصغير مثلًا.

راسموس طفل يحلم أن يكون له والدين كحال أي طفل آخر في الميتم ، نبذ الملجأ ومن فيه ، لطالما يحلم أن يكون في حضن أم محبه لإبنها ، حب غير مشروط لكن لم يكن الطفل المنشود !

أستريد ليندجرين أرادت ترجمة مشاعر الأيتام وعن أحلامهم التى كانت لربما عادية جداً لأي طفل عادي لم يُحرم من عاطفة الوالدين والاستقرار الأسري ، بالمقابل فإن راسموس كان مسلوب الإرادة وعليه الامتثال لما يمليه عليه البالغين ، وأحياناً كثيرة فإن الخوف من المجهول دفعه لقيام عجز عنه الكثير فكانت له نهاية غير متوقعه مع المتشرد أوسكار .

حتى وإن كانت الرواية لليافعين ، تمنيت لو كان هنالك سرد أكثر عمقاً لمشاعر الأيتام وعن حياة الملجأ ، هنالك فجوة عميقه كان لابد من اصلاحها ولو أخذت على نحو أكثر جدية لكانت من أروع الروايات في أدب الطفل .

Un'inaspettata, meravigliosa sorpresa!
Il romanzo scritto dalla grande Astrid Lindgren nel 1957 e portato in Italia da Ziliotto per la prima volta nel 1988, ha come protagonista Rasmus, un ragazzino orfano che, una sera d'estate dopo lunghe valutazioni decide di scappare dall'orfanotrofio per cercare una famiglia che voglia tenerlo con sé. L'avventura è ovviamente dietro l'angolo quando incontra per caso il vagabondo Oscar-del-Paradiso, un adulto che gira di villaggio in villaggio cercando e spesso riuscendo a farsi dare del denaro e da mangiare e da bere, canticchiando canzoncine e suonando la fisarmonica. Rasmus, pieno d’entusiasmo, in attesa di riuscire a trovare una famiglia chiede e ottiene di poter girare con l’uomo guadagnandosi da vivere in quel modo.

Come Lindgren ci ha abituati, in questo viaggio Rasmus conoscerà a realtà della vita rappresentata anche da pericoli, dalla cattiveria umana ma anche dalle emozioni, dal gusto dell’avventura, dalla generosità della gente e sperimenta l’importanza di mettere in gioco se stessi per raggiungere i propri ideali.

Colpi di scena, mistero, divertimento sono gli ingredienti principali che rendono il viaggio del protagonista avvincente, emozionante e originale e meritevole di essere letto e amato. Per un pubblico dai 9 ai 99 anni.

Urocza książeczka. Skierowana jest on głównie dla młodszych czytelników i tak naprawdę aktualnie bym się za nią nie zabrała, gdyby nie to, że znalazłam piękne wydanie z lat 60' w antykwariacie. Mam sentyment do Astrid Lindgren - za dzieciaka uwialbiałam jej książki, więc powrót do niej, jest niczym powrót do przeszłości.

Nie będę tej powieści oceniać, bo aktualnie nie byłam nią niezwykle zachwycona - owszem, urocza lekturka, ale to chyba tyle. Możliwe, że tak to już jest z książkami uwielbianymi jako ośmiolatek - im starszym się jest, tym bardziej uwielbienie po przeczytaniu ich gaśnie.

Mimo wszystko, miło było się przenieść do ciepłego lata, pięknych lasów i łąk, oraz przyłączyć się do wędrówki z Rasmusem i Rajskim Oskarem!

Dit verhaal speelt zich af in Zweden en het is geschreven door Astrid Lindgren. Haar stijl is zo mooi, zo gemoedelijk en tegelijkertijd ook heel avontuurlijk. De gevoelens van Rasmus beschrijft ze heel herkenbaar voor jonge lezers, maar ook volwassen lezers beleven plezier aan haar boeken. Er zitten namelijk nogal wat wijsheden verstopt tussen de regels.
