I recently moved from Long Island to Coastal North Carolina and love meeting with Book Clubs who have read my books. I am a member of the national organization, The Authors Guild.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading EVERY single page of this AWESOME historical fiction book. The Author's use of WONDERFUL descriptions made me feel like I was actually living the part. LOVED the way this Author educated us on the wartime sinking of the German Wilhelm Gustloff in January 1945 in World War II by a Soviet Navy submarine, with an estimated loss of about 9,400 people, remains the deadliest maritime disaster ever. EVERYBODY knows of the Titanic, yet this was much more devastating, from the Titanic 1,517 people were killed, less than six times the amount of the Gustloff. WHY? My emotions were all over the place while reading this from literally laughing out loud, to crying to cheering! The ending and how it all intertwined was a GEM! Can't wait to begin the Tin Box Secret, Reawakening and The Hope Chest.....Thank you Ms. Theresa Dodaro, BRAVO to a job well done!
i thought this was an excellent book I am a huge fan of this author. I read the tin box trilogy also excellent she is the type of author who captures your attention from the very beginning. I highly suggest these books to anyone who likes to enjoy what they read. The tin box trilogy and The porcelain doll by Theresa Dodaro.
The Porcelain Doll describes the impact the Nazis had on everyday German citizens from a child's perspective. It is a painful, yet wonderful story of family--love, loss and survival.
This beautifully told story about how two young girls survive a horrific time period in our history. Izzy and Rebekah are best friends sisters who help each other through Hitler's Nazis and the atrocities of the Soviet Union.
This is a beautifully told story about a time period in the world's history where two young girls have to survive Hitler's Germany and the atrocities of the Soviet Union after the war. They survived and made their way to new lives. They lost so much but had each other. Easy reading and keeps you wanting to read more.
In the book the porcelain doll really captures amazing artistry written in books. The book showed such a tragedy that shaped the world, and made seem so artistic. I loved this book detailing every thing that has happened. In the story, Jace who was born around the 1980’s goes to see her grandmothers foster summer camp. Her grandmother, Oma had lived during WW2. She tells Jace her granddaughter the story’s about how she and her friend Elizabeth had grew up upon the horrors of it. Multiple chapters were of Oma telling Jace the trauma she went through. In the story Jace goes to the camp, and discovers a possible love interest, along with adopting a child that goes to the camp. The story is so heartwarming and light hearted it was so sweet. If I would rate the book it would be a 4.6, the reasoning behind this is the ending. The ending really made me upset, it was sweet but also was really sad. I felt that the ending shouldn’t have ended how it did end. I gave it it a higher rating then normal because it really was such a nicely written book. I recommend the book to those who want to learn more about World War Two, but also the dangers of women. The book captures women who went through the tough times as well. I also recommend the book to those who like warm hearted conversations and writings.

A moving saga of survival and perseverance. My attention was emotionally captured from the beginning. I have read many Historical Fiction books about World War II, this was the first I read from a child's perspective. The vivid descriptions made me feel I was actually living the part of the characters. Although painful at times to read, it was a wonderfully woven story of family, friendship, love and loss. A selection for our Book Club read and looking forward to our upcoming meeting when the author will be present to facilitate our discussion.
I couldn't put this book down. From the very beginning I was emotionally pulled into the story. The connection between grandmother and grand-daughter was so special. The two best friends that became family, always there for each other. Each family going through so much loss and heartache during such horrific times, both families trying to protect their young innocent children. I enjoyed how the past and the present story was told at the same time. I cried right along with the Izzy and Rebekah.
I really loved this book. This was a beautiful tale about friendship. The love story of Izzy’s granddaughter is a little bit ideal to be real but other than that everything seemed real. I enjoyed every single page of the book!!
I had an emotional reaction to this time and place and the families living there. A reader of this book visits what it's like to be a child with questions and fear in a world they cannot understand. Theresa Dodoro again weaves lovely characters into a carefully researched time and place in history.
I found this book to be truly inspiring. It is about the human spirit, friendship hope and love. It takes you on a journey of the hardships of war and the perseverance it takes to survive. I highly recommend reading it!!!!!
Lovely, touching story of 2 friends that starts in Nazi Germany and continues thru harrowing, historic events, ending in current times. I look forward to reading more of Theresa's books!
I finished this book in less than 2 days! It gave such an amazing account of WWII from a different perspective. Theresa's flashback technique kept me on the edge of my seat, leaving me wanting more!
